This is why you want professional to complete a job like this. Clean, thorough and detail oriented. You’re definitely the one I can trust to work on my car. Great job, sir!
My wife's 2008 Sienna had the dash replaced because it more or less melted lol. Toyota was awesome being a loyal customer i only paid labor and that was even refunded a few months later. Toyota for life i won't drive anything else. Awesome videos AMD you are a true master of your craft.
This channel is now my new tv show. I keep desperately waiting for the next episode. I do wish you went through an inspection on this but I guess the customer hadn't asked for it. Another excellent video!
Well brother this one was one for the books very fascinating never really seen anything done like this and you’re the absolute platinum standard for pure quality work always drops my jaw. Indeed my friend you are a trusted source. Great job! Great job filming also Mrs. Car Care Nut!
I can never keep track of everything in a big job like this so I put the nuts/bolts/screws for each piece in a zip lock sandwich bag and label it with a sharpie so I know how it goes back together. I also label the order that it came apart too. The people that can do it by memory always amaze me.
I sold my RX330 last month, my dash was even more cracked. I did not change it out bcuz I didn’t want squeaks or leaks. To see what this entails 😳😳😳. I purchased a custom fit dash cover online for about $70 & gave it to the new owner. He loves my RX - I love my RX350. What a job to change that dash out. Super-kudos to you❣️
Got the dash replaced free under Lexus recall on my 2004 RX330 several years ago. Dealer did a great job but they handed me an estimate of “ needed repairs “ that totaled over $6,000 !! One of they things they wanted to do was to replace the radiator ( there was nothing wrong with it ) I have an independent mechanic that services my RX. He looked it over & said everything was fine. Here I am several years later & my RX is still running perfectly ( without $6,000 in unnecessary repairs ) Take the service department’s recommendations with a grain of salt. It never hurts to get a second opinion.
You've done one great job in replacing the dash cover. I've done a few Ford "F" series dash assemblies, one 06 Nissan Frontier and one 06 Kia Sorento dash assembly units. Like you said, take your time doing these types of jobs. I did just that and all of the dash assembly electrical and mechanical parts worked the first time! I worked in a City Fleet shop so time was not my enemy. Very good work and video AMD ! ! ! This video definitely brought back memories. Mostly good memories.
Really impressed with your thoroughness! I have a Corolla that had the airbag recall. The dash rattled after the recall was performed. I brought it back and they installed a foam kit that was suppose to stop the rattles. It did not. I gave up. Months later while cleaning the inside of the car, I found several yellow plastic clips in the backseat. Toyota service is disgusting! I will not let them touch my car.
Thank you for posting this. I missed the campaign 2010-2020 for the sticky gooey dashboards for the IS250. I just got done replacing the bad dash on my IS250 with a new one. Your video gave me confidence to do it. Your attention to detail is phenomenal. Thank you.
I am sure that old dash can be recycled buy either flocking it which is something like a suede powder you put after glue but it's a messy job or fill out those cracks and maybe give the dash a new color if that's possible.
Are dash cracks caused by UV, or by the heat inside the car, when parked outside in summer.....or both. I had a 1975 Toyota that developed a terrible dash crack, but back then, most cars only had a 12 month, 12,000 mile warranty.
Hi! This was a known manufacturing issue that’s why they replaced them. Typically in my area we don’t have sun damage to dashboards but these still got damaged
Our 2009 RX had a dash cracking all over the place. We checked around and prices ranged from $1900 to $3500. We found the part for $622 at a dealer here in Phoenix. My wife and I decided to try it because of AMD's video. It went fantastic. It is not that hard if you are an automotive person. It took us three, 4 hour days. It's a big advantage to have a helper. We could do one now in one day. Our car has 70K miles and was really worth fixing. A tribute to Lexus is how perfect the new dash fits. We have lots of pictures. Thanks AMD
I have a 2004 Rx330 with only 87000 miles and , other than the cracked dash, its in beautiful shape. When this CCN video popped up i thought "im gonna do that myself" then saw that the removal footage was lost ...ugh. I'm still considering it but I like to do this stuff step my step for big removals like this. Did you have to use other removal videos to help you with the different steps?
I put a dash cover for about $200 that goes right over the cracked one on my 2007 Rx350. Exact color... Obviously not as good as a full replacement, but pretty darn good. For a 15 year old vehicle in good shape it will suffice...
AMD, Once again, the expression - better you than me comes immediately to mind . 😂 The gold RX-330 is pure class and deserves a dashboard in A1 condition.
What an excellent video AMD, TY totally enjoyed this swap over. You always explain things very clearly and make it look so simple too do that it encourages me to actually try things I would not normally attempt so TY Sir your the best. Love these deep looks into things normally hidden from our eyes. Keep Safe Keep Strong My Friend 🦘🦘🦘🚗🚗🚗
Hi Ahmed hope you are doing good. I was thinking of a matt finish wrap can resolve the glare issue. The factory videos show that dash is hoisted on an arm and then 2 technicians do the install. You did it all alone 👍👍
Hi! I’m doing well thank you! Hope you’re doing well as well. On the dash install in the factory. They install everything at the same time. So dash bar wire harness hvac box and steering column which makes it extremely heavy and I wouldn’t be able to carry it alone.
Great instruction and ethics! I learn something every time I watch a video and appreciate your thoroughness. Thank you for your hard work in producing these quality video's. I have seen shops where their motto should have been, "We do it right because we do it twice, sometimes three".
When I moved to Florida I saw a bunch of these cracked dashes at dealerships. I wasn’t going to watch but glad I did. Cool to see it with the dash off. Years ago I remember companies use to state airbags good for 8-10 years. Now they don’t say it any longer. Have you ever done a video on the Toyota hybrid issue with the cable having problem and not being fixed under their hybrid warranty?
I had a 2006 Sienna that was part of this campaign. I had two small cracks in the dash and knew it would probably get worse but decided not to have the dash replaced. I just didn't trust my dealer to do this repair properly. I traded it in last year and the two cracks did get a bit larger. I just didn't want to open a can of worms.
it all depend on the tech who work on the vehicle. you are lucky if your vehicle get into this kind of technician. some are not to that good, you may get back two or three trips. But let them do it. Other tech would help, or would fix the problem. interior work is ok. Only engine work get more dirty, and tired. Tech may get issue
Reading through the quality assurance inspection tag on the new dash written in Japanese, there is no year given and the "12/24" number is most likely December 24th although the year 2012 was Heisei 24 in the Japanese calendar.
You ARE patient!! Extremely patient and particular, which is amazing! Your customers are so blessed to have you! If my husband and I lived near you, we’d beg you to be our mechanic. We are Toyota/Lexus ALL THE WAY👍🏼👍🏼👍🏼👍🏼 Looks like God really blessed you with that beautiful shop. So special!
My 2006 RX400h had the dash replaced as part of the Lexus warranty extension. Lexus provided a new RX as a loaner for one week at no charge. Thus buying another Lexus RX was not a difficult decision.
Great video as always. I replaced my wife's evaporator core on 09 ES 350. Took me several weekends, but not a single bolt or clip left over :) No rattle and super cold AC. I am proud of that job. I am an average DIYer btw.
This must be a lot more fun to do in your shop than in a dealership with 30 people walking around and having your advisor, manager breathing on your neck!
I continue to be amazed at your wealth of knowledge in this space AMD (meaning, the Toyota space). Gonna have to stick to this brand to retain you as a resource! 😁
*_Great video. BTW, that is one of the cleanest 20 year old (nearly 20) Lexus RX's I've ever seen. It's no wonder the owner loved her SUV inside & out... but was tired of looking at that nasty old dash. I just wish we lived closer to legendary CCN! LOL_*
Had to replace the dash on my 2007 Camry about 2 years ago. Toyota Corp, surprisingly, argued with me that I would have to pay for it since the campaign was over. I argued that I was never notified of the dash issue and that it was a serious safety hazard because of the reflection in the windshield. After some back and forth, they agreed to pay for the dash, and I paid labor. Although I was disappointed they argued with me, in the end, they did the right thing. This is why I keep buying Toyotas. Ahmad, I think you might have done the labor on that dash replacement - no rattles! 😊
I bought a dash cover for my 2007 ES350 for $40. Mechanically it’s in fantastic shape- I just didn’t feel it was worth spending $1500+ to replace a dash just because of stickiness/glare. 256k miles and still runs like a champ!
Man, you are very good at your job!! Really good demonstration of how to do it right the first time! I would be very, VERY scared of having anyone, including a dealership replace an entire dash. Not with you, though! I can see your frustration working at a dealership with an un-cooperative Service Manager pushing you to "just get it done". I have seen mechanics, on my daughter's or wife's cars (I try to work on my own cars since they are super clean) not even replace body plugs, clips etc. and route hoses in the engine compartment incorrectly, just simple stuff like that. One time, the heater hose was crimped (so no heat, of course) and I got the service manager involved and the technician started making all kinds of crazy excuses. Being a Toyota dealership, it got resolved pronto!
Sir! My best wishes to you and your family. Your professionalism and knowledge is always 💯. When I was younger I worked in shop and worked on dashboard. I know how it's difficult job and you have to be careful and patient. I used to miss few bolts and I have to go back and found it's place. You found the perfect car for presentation purposes. By the way I did not see you using protective gloves.
Your attention to detail, deep respect for not only the vehicles and the engineering excellence but also the customers, will guarantee your success. I wish I still lived in Chicagoland to be your customer. All the best from Texas
I used to work for Benz. I do AC evap box couple some times. It is really intimidated by may part. Toyota seem to be easier than Benz, but when you work for dealer, you started to do small thing around dash, then after 2-3 years experience you would do the dash with no problem.
I’ve had the displeasure of taking a dash out on a benz. As expensive as they are once you start peeling things back. Very brittle and cheap plastic on their interiors. Toyota interior look cheaper but they’re actually much better made at least in my experience
AMD....I love it...again. These are the things I truly love to do... it's meant for the truly OCD. One thing, and I don't want to be a nag, but my back hurts just watching you. Your work trolley seems to be a better height than the box, but it appears that even your work trolley is about 8 to 10 inches short--was looking at the angle when you had your drill on the old dash. I think adding larger wheels may help prevent back soreness. We want to see you for years to come! Many, many years to come! Take care and be safe.
What a video! I can only echo my admiration as others have done here. You are truly one in a million but trying to have a logical mind I would like to ask a question. Dashes are exposed to harsh sunlight, hot and cold cycles, and eventually suffer cracks, discoloration, etc. etc. Why don't engineers just design a dash where only the exposed portion can be removed and snapped or bolted into place without having to disassemble and remove the entire dash assembly. I am not an automotive engineer and may be way off base. Just curious. thanks
I just wish TCCN was at least a 300km away from my home but Montreal-Chicago is quite a world to travel grrrrrrrr! Lucky you guys. This man is a pure heart standing on two feet. God bless him 😇
This guy makes a complex job look simple! How much does this job cost? Any how, he earned his money. Sir, you are an honor to your profession. Nice vehicle, see why the owner wanted the dash replaced. He will be driving this vehicle years from now.
Amazing work brother.. thank God there are people like you in this word. Watching from Canada. Do you have any videos of driver side mirror replacement on 2007 RX350??
Hey AMD - thanks for a great video! That said, I really wish your shop was closer to me. In three years of trying, I have yet to find an honest (and competent) mechanic in my area.
I wish you would actually show how to take off that dash and install new one step by step. That is a sensitive job that requires some knowledge. It can't be done intuitively because it's very likely that you brake things. You would have got a lot more views. There is no videos on youtube for RX.
I did this once, 30 years ago, to a mid 80's Ford, that I made the mistake to buy, that developed a leaking heater core, after a few years. I managed to get it all apart, and together again, but somehow had over 10 to 15 screws left over. I had no problems with the car, after that, but it always rattled like crazy until I dumped it a few years later. I got rid of half the rattles by shoving foam rubber into areas that made noise.......I have a good track record in repairing things that I'm not qualified to do.
Really good video. You did a really good job. Usually mechanics in dealer doesn't take (Or have ?) time to put things back the way you did. I think it's why most people are reluctant to have the dash completely torn appart. I have mine messed with with a brand new highlander 2020 hybrid and after getting the car back from dealer, it rattle, squeak and vent dash even fall on the floor. I take it back twice to the dealer to have it fixed and they never manage too. The job was done at a big Toyota dealer, and I have to say that i was pretty disappointed.
Amazing video Amd. I think it's time you have a 2 camera set up one overhead would have been great for this video. How many hours would a dealership allow for this kind of job and at what cost?
Hi! Working on that setup. Ordering new cameras soon. This job pays around 6-7 hours and at a dealership environment you’d be lucky to get allotted half that time and the interruptions are endless at a dealership environment
Looks just like the 2008 RX350 I just got done replacing the evaporator on, the dash on that car was all cracked and sticky too. You always have to make a note on the RO because some people miraculously notice such things only after they spend $2800 and claim that cracks weren't there before I started working on it 🤦♂️.
Sadly it's hard to find a shop like AMD who is very attention to detail. Personally, I think most of the shops would fail this job. When it's done, probably it looks good from the outside, but inside is a mess.
Besides replacing a cracked dash, wouldn't a dash cover would make a very inexpensive alternative? I do admire the attention to detail! Then again, not my money & not my headache.
That would resolve the issue but the owner perhaps didn’t like the appearance of the dash cover and wanted it done right. The car is actually in excellent condition and worth this repair
There is no way in hell I'd ever buy an expensive luxury grade car and tarnish the interior looks with a shitty dash cover that does little good and just attracts dust and crap under it. Plus I've seen some that give the impression they would get in the way of an air bag's deployment. As someone that has to all these filthy cars that come in to our smash repair, I hate the extra work that dash covers add.
@The car care nut I saw a 91’ Toyota Pickup at my local junkyard with 305,000 miles on it. What was surprising was that it was an automatic! The drivers seat wasn’t even ripped. Pure quality
Awesome job! I've just bought a 2010 Corolla. The upper part of the dash, near to the windshield, makes a "crackling" or "sizzling" noise after a few minutes of driving at high speed on the highway. Any clue about what that could be? Thanks
Your videos are great. Thanks for doing an excellent job. I have a question as there is no clear answer on the internet about it. How do you check the transmission fluid level on a 2013 Highlander, FWD, 3.5L engine. Do you check with engine running? if yes, why two marks on the dipstick for cold & hot? I checked the level on a cold engine with engine stopped and the level on the dipstick was way over the Hot mark. Its a factory filled transmission so unlikely that they overfilled, what gives?
Hi! You want to check the transmission fluid with the engine running. Drive the car for 15-20 min then check it. It should be not higher than the max hot. And not into the cold zone.
Great job, I like installs like this myself. Like you say, a clean job and also very satisfying to do and see the end result. Nice clean example of that Lexus too, the owner cares enough about it to have this dash replaced.
Very interesting AMD. I very much appreciate your expertise. Buying vehicles over the years I have always depended on the repair shop of the dealerships. Basically no one touches my Toyota but Toyota technicians. There's a trust level there on my end. Do you feel that most Toyota techs treat their customers like you display in your videos these days?
This is why you want professional to complete a job like this. Clean, thorough and detail oriented. You’re definitely the one I can trust to work on my car. Great job, sir!
Agreed an amateur or shady mechanic will mess up the clips and hide the imperfections below the dash. You won't know unless a significant rattle.
My wife's 2008 Sienna had the dash replaced because it more or less melted lol. Toyota was awesome being a loyal customer i only paid labor and that was even refunded a few months later. Toyota for life i won't drive anything else. Awesome videos AMD you are a true master of your craft.
Its the dealer in your country not toyota
Maybe so but Toyota in general has never let me down. I was told Toyota ie not my dealer authorized the dash.
This channel is now my new tv show. I keep desperately waiting for the next episode. I do wish you went through an inspection on this but I guess the customer hadn't asked for it. Another excellent video!

AWESOME... now show me how to replace the dash on my 2006 LS430.

Look up customer support program ZLZ, secondary expiration date might be in play
Fascinating! This is definitely a job to watch, not to do. Expert professionalism as always.
RX is such s good car and this is s lovely example 👌
Complex job the dash. Hope I never have to do it LOL. Thanks again for a great vid. Greeting from a member. Hereby I honour you as "the dashman".
Great job/great advice! Ur like an artist AMD. That's a tedious job u made look simple! 👍
Excellent work!
The whole point of looking up this video was to see how the dash came out!
I am sure that old dash can be recycled buy either flocking it which is something like a suede powder you put after glue but it's a messy job or fill out those cracks and maybe give the dash a new color if that's possible.
This rx330 is so damn clean
You are in Chicago. Why isn't that Lexus a salt pitted pile of rust? Nice video.
They really take care of it. If you wash the car regularly and garage keep it they don’t rust as bad
Respect sir.
AMD I think they forgot that sunroof drain on the 2020 Highlander models lol
What's the book time on that job?
6-7 hours depends which book you look at
my dash is splitting on the drinker's side... been afraid to pop it and replace it.
Drinker's side? I know it's a typo but that's pretty funny
@@flavellinator nope, not a typo. it refers to the passenger side. a phrase often said by vice grip garage...
@@DaveSomething Ah, gotcha... I know I've texted some crazy things with that dang autocorrect. Funny nonetheless
vin plate? rivets?
Hi! The vin plate is not on the dash.
were did you buy that dash I need one
I'd take this over a new Lexus - no question.
A huge "IF" AMD🤔
A dash pad would have been good enough.
100% agree. I would only change out the dash if there was a serious problem like the AC evap or if the airbags deploy

“Old” RX330 *looks at my 02 RX300 I just drove from LA to Phoenix for the thousandth time*
I used to work for Benz.
You are really great in your job. It’s really hard to find good trusted and honest mechanic. God bless you and your family.
WoW! Amazing, another professional job well done, as usually! The Toyota/Lexus Rock Star at work!
Just curious. thanks
Beautiful a piece of art. It is a pleasure to watch you the Car Care Nut do his thing, Great
I just wish TCCN was at least a 300km away from my home but Montreal-Chicago is quite a world to travel grrrrrrrr!
Around 7 hours of labor and the dash itself is $964
Really enjoyed the video as we have a 2005 RX330 with 116,000 miles. Thanks for all the good info.
Amazing work brother.. thank God there are people like you in this word. Watching from Canada.
Do you have any videos of driver side mirror replacement on 2007 RX350??
19:15 the slip just says things like "Vehicle type: RX; R/L hand drive, Check; Color code: 446" etc.
Hey AMD - thanks for a great video! That said, I really wish your shop was closer to me. In three years of trying, I have yet to find an honest (and competent) mechanic in my area.
Amazing results by a professional installer
Your comments reminds me of what I done in some repairs.
@@TheCarCareNut Thank you sir for replying 🙏
Looks just like the 2008 RX350 I just got done replacing the evaporator on, the dash on that car was all cracked and sticky too. You always have to make a note on the RO because some people miraculously notice such things only after they spend $2800 and claim that cracks weren't there before I started working on it 🤦♂️.
Always fun when that happens.
@@TheCarCareNut the owner was in good hands. Please keep the content coming!

Thanks
Hi! Usually the bezel near the windshield. Remove it and verify that the noise goes away if it does then use some foam insulation to quiet it down
New shop is looking good.

Your videos are excellent. I hope you succeed in your UA-cam work.
Great looking SUV. Excellent work done.
Brilliant JOB!! Lexus are difficult to take apart and put back together. So well done sir.
I'm impressed how you do the work professionally
Few technicians do so
Good looking car and a great job, thanks for the informative video.
Good thing all those screws were the same size!
Do you have a video on how to keep you factory warranty while working on your own car? Like what you need to have incase something happens
Hi! If work is done right and using good parts you won’t have issues with warranty. Document your work that you do and keep recipes just in case.
You got a very impressive skills set !
That is a beautiful old Lexus must be a garage queen or the owner is ocd like his mechanic.😂
New shop looks great AMD
Great job, I like installs like this myself. Like you say, a clean job and also very satisfying to do and see the end result.
Nice clean example of that Lexus too, the owner cares enough about it to have this dash replaced.
Very interesting AMD. I very much appreciate your expertise. Buying vehicles over the years I have always depended on the repair shop of the dealerships. Basically no one touches my Toyota but Toyota technicians. There's a trust level there on my end. Do you feel that most Toyota techs treat their customers like you display in your videos these days?
Can we have a video of the 2.0 turbo on the Lexus NX?
Hi ,is there any way to contact you off of youtube ,i have the same Lexus that needs the dash replaced
I also live in the chicagoland area
Your the best AMD it's stressful enough with the cost but not knowing it's done right with care.Wish I had shop like yours in northern Virginia.
