My 06 PT Cruiser Base 2.4L non-turbo idles at 2,000 RPM. I have replaced MAP sensor, IAC Valve, Throttle Position Sensor, Cam Sensor and my throttle plate is very clean over the last year and a half. I got codes, not just throwing parts at it. Did the Intake plenum gaskets, but didn't do the intake manifold. That's what I'm doing next. I know it's not Ignition because I did plugs, wires, coil. While I'm in there, LOL, I'm giong to do Valve Cover gasket, replace all Fuel Injectors, change spark plugs, Coolant Temp Sender (could be culprit), Thermostat, Gasket and Housing. That's my plan... I hate those little bolts holding the intake on. Car has 145k miles and I got it for $250 bucks from a guy who gave up on it. Replaced Fuel Pump to get it running. These cars are no joke. Timing Belt popped on me and I replaced all the stuff. Not a fun job...
Got an 02 neon giving me a p0508 code low voltage in iac circuit. Replaced the iac and still running like poop. Idles at 430-450 barely. Press the gas and it sputters and loses power. Replaced map sensor, tps, pcv and still no fix. Any ideas? Also how do you test the iac circuit?
Check the ground wires on Driver side inside fender well right behind airbox. Unbolt those grounds. Clean them very good then snug rebolt. Fixed my problem of my O2 sensors not working.
I am about to tackle those lower intake gaskets and replace all 4 injectors (I have a full set of refurbed Mopars with new seals). Not sure if this is the answer, but my problem has been random cylinder misfire at a warm startup (as in, run car and come back and start it an hour later). It'll miss on 2 cylinders, then 3 will work and then the last cylinder finally splutters into life and smooths the idle. Drives fine, pulls fine. Little gas smell on start up due to the misfiree. I do have a slight whistle that goes with RPM audible in the cabin. I checked ALL other vacuum lines and they are all 100% fine. I can only presume it's too much air coming in through the OG gasket (160,000 miles on it) and or injector seals or leaking injectors. Figured I'm in the area, do both. I hate the thought of doing the coolant again though since I just did it in January.
Thank you I have a PT I thought the mdchanic was crazy because they think im crazy it sounded like a hole in the exhausted up front like it is sucking air and running rough before and after valve cover gasket and spark plug gaskets, spark plugs, and wires replaced. I thought it was a gasket maybe between the the cat and manifold but they are looking at me like nope! Msybe this is it fingers crossed. No check engine lights on.
@@subtledriver Thank you. I threw a bottle of cataclean in it started running better after 15 mins of driving let's see if something was about to clog!!!
Hi when you replaced these gaskets did you have to put them in one way or did either side work? I just replaced mine and it seems to still be misfiring at idle.

Hello spray soapy water around entire intake runners if that is it you'll see air bubbles as well engine will change idle rapidly just letting you know I did it and it works fine
If you have a pt cruiser check to make sure that the low speed fan turns on when you turn the AC on. The low speed motors tend to die on these PT cruisers and it creates a large load on the system that can bog the engine down and potentially shut it off. if the fan doesnt turn on have a shop check the relay and fan motor.
Hello I saw scotty Kilmer utube and he said they put really cheap ac compressors on them as well as condensers they don't cool enough so the system struggles and puts a strain on the engine and it can cause problems with. Idling for sure hope that give you a better outlook for your problems just thought I let you know
well ive worked on hundreds of vehicles where a small vacuum leak will not trip the p0171 code. you have to go past the fuel trim limits to set that code.
that's what my pt cruiser is doing, thanks for showing me

Great video. Exactly what I did to mines and it runs super smooth now. 👍🏼👍🏼
no problemo!
Great video!! This will help. Wish you the best.
The mechanic said That; " I've blown a seal"........ I told him to;" Leave my personal life out of it & fix the damn car". LOl.

Lol! So true!
I have no problem with my standard version, an automatic one fails more... so far 5 years and it's all wonderful 🤟🏼🔥

i would have them change both top and bottom gaskets on the intake manifold, if you have similar symptoms, and check for the leak

Exactly my problem!
do you have to take off coolant hose to get intake off
yes

But did it fix the rough idle? Wish he had shot some video after the fix.
revup yes it did, the rest of the motor was in good shape, good compression, new wires, coil, plugs ECT. Had gasket leaks.
could this be the same problem of my pt running real rough when the ac is on?
If the rpms drop, possibly yes. But there are other possibilities, like a stuck idle air control valve or spark plug/wire/coil/valve cover gasket.

Can I ask what model pt cruiser. I have an 03 and believe someone swapped intake manifolds....thanks
non turbo, thats all i remember
What was it idling at prior? I'm trying to figure out if mine is idling "roughly." If so, this may be my fix.

Wish you were in Louisiana. Great video, great lesson. Thanks
Would this also cause the car to turn off when turning on the a/c
possibly, but that is most likely due to dirty throttle plate or sticking idle control valve, maybe the compressor is damaged...
