    I used a 400 watt HPS till recently after our son bought me a 420 watt Seagrond Led light. Apparently a mid range led quantum board, but significantly better than my HPS. I noticed that my plants responded to the led much faster than my HPS. Thanks for the video. Cheers from New Zealand.

    Glad to see a non sponsored reviewer for a change. There are many very good sponsored reviewers here . They gain the publics trust then subtlety push there product. At great monetary gain . No blame it’s human nature to want to become a millionaire . But they are not honest . Case in point a reviewer states one month a light is fantastic . Then when a new light arrives they say the first light only has a spread of 10 cm … that’s 3.9 inches. What isn’t mentioned the reading is taken 3 inches from the board . And no mention of the actual numbers but there it is . We see this time over time. In many different ways . They are pushing product and the Chinese are very grateful.

    Thanks for this! I ordered an Atreum Hyrdro-1000 as my first real LED right after viewing this last year, and another about a month later. About 6 months ago I got a Vipar because Atreum doesn't sell a 200w... and while I don't notice any difference in build quality, light output, or results, I am still happy to patronize Atreum for the reasons you listed. Honest businesses should get business!

    Thanks again for your thorough reviews! If I could just mention one little detail, it might be worth consideration when buying. The Spider Farmer and Viparspectra lights I have are coated to protect the diodes' connections from corrosion. The Cheap entry level Mars Hydro light I have (TSL-2000) has no coating at all. As I mentioned in another video, the aluminum reflector will dull over time because it is not anodized.
    Here's the reason for my concern: The Spider Farmer lights have a sticker on them that symbolically says "NO sulfur". Indoor growers are commonly dealing with powdery mildew. P.M. is harder to deal with in flower. Sulfur 'burners' (actually vaporizers) are the best defense. Sulfur burners work by the micro-deposition of sulfur on the leaf surfaces, which then becomes oxidized, and ultimately forms sulfuric acid. A moist atmosphere, coupled with sulfur vaporization products is not an ideal environment for electronics, especially ones with no coating. Sulfur isn't used all the time, and my intermittent use of it has not damaged my lights in any noticeable way (even the Mars lights), but it's worthy of consideration, I think. It would have never occurred to me if I hadn't seen the warning on the SF-1000. It's interesting that Spider Farmer is the only company I've seen that warns us of this potential problem.
    Lots of 'medicinal' users of these lights would never consider sulfur, but it has saved my crops when nothing else could. I only use it in the 12 hour room, because other products work OK in veg. And no, it has never created an off taste in the -matoes. Just some food for thought.
    Love your work Mr. Pepper :) Thanks.

    • @Albopepper
      @Albopepper  3 роки тому

      Excellent information! Thanks for pointing that out. The ViparSpectra & Maxsisun lights have the thicker rubbery coating. The current generation of SF1000 is the thinner hard type. HYDRA-1000 is coated in that same way.

    I love LED light reviews and analysis, one thing I'm surprised I'm not seeing in 2024 now that light makers are understanding IR a little better is some control of the blue/red ratio to control stretching. some 'tomatoes' like to stretch more than others, and I think we could be using our lights as tools to control that a little more.

    i spent hours looking for a grow light that was decent for my 4x4 without spending a absurd amount 4 days ago. I went with the Maxisun PB 4000 pro for $307 after a discount and a referral code and i was so happy with it. i love being able so slowly raise the brightness with the remote rather than twist something on the light. and now i know i did get a great deal like i thought. Great video! now we just need someone to test fans. i got one that i know is not nearly as powerful as it say and it really upsets me

      I didn't have a great time with my hlg 550 v1. It just did okay.
      Going much less expensive this time with two xs1500s in a 2.5x5 expandable grow space. If I get more plants, I'll get more xs1500s. Can go up to 5x5.
      More expensive isn't always better. Technological advances are better. And waiting for the budget models of those technological advances is wallet-friendly.

    I purchased the SF1000 LED light from Spider Farmer in May, after considering a lot of information, especially your earlier article on 100 Watt grow lights. I received a 270 light panel with a manual that referred LM301D diodes. I contacted Spider Farmer and they replaced my order with the 270 diode substitute which has the D diodes installed on the board. From what I understand during our multi e-mail conversation was that they ran out of LM301B diodes and started to fill orders with the upgraded , "D" diode panels. I am mentioning this because you received a SF1000 panel from Spider Farmer with 270 diodes in your video.

    I never understood why you would mount the driver on the back of the heatsink. I know it is for efficiency but It is just throwing heat in your grow space. I can't imagine a 4-6 foot cable causing you to loose a significant amount of current.

    • @hidad5601
      @hidad5601 2 роки тому +1

      You would loose such an insignificant amount of power it's not even worth doing the math. By the way it's volt drop that occurs across the length of a conductor.

    Apogee is now making 2several model ppfd meters that use the "e-par" scale, which includes light to760nm, measuring the far red LEDs included in the newer lights.
    I have a dozen or so mixed ViparSpectra XS1000 and XS2000 models. I just bought a couple more, and can't speak highly enough of them. Even had a new defective one a year or so ago that was replaced no questions asked in a matter of days. Thanks for the thorough reviews, makes me feel better that I'm not missing out on something a lot better. I'd be surprised to find anything a whole lot better however, as my results have been fantastic. The multiple small lights let me adjust them individually (I use an Apogee MQ620 e-par meter) as the plants grow. you can adjust position, height and intensity to get the entire area to the desirable levels and DLI for each plant.

Less powerful driver, less wattage (100 instead of 120 watts) and a dimmer that wasn't freely adjustable anymore. Also the build quilty felt much less refined, would even call it cheap. Unbelievable how they can produce something so vastly inferiour to the previouw version of the same model. Watch out which version you buy online!

      Also got the 100 watt one, while the website advertised it as being 120 watt. I got mine in last Wednesday.

    it would be nice to see a comparison between old and new panels, i have some 7 year old 400w viparspect panels with 5w diodes, and they still perform to perfection but they seem quite power costly compared to the new ones, back then i paid like 100$ for such a panel- i also have one of the green mars hydros with 3w diodes and it is still working 240w but comparing old used panels to brand new ones wouldn´t be a fair comparrison i think.

    I did my first review on the Pandvillow LED grow light then I watch this video and said no wonder why they didn’t give me any directions the owners manual did not tell the proper way to hang the light up they were so worried about a par them tests are pointless if they’re not gonna do it on a growing distance all about the inverse Square law thank you for the truth dangling the light that was the best

    Great video as usual...maybe one day you can do a report on the HLG qb288 or their "Diablo" 648 that claims a 2.8 rating since more diodes spread light more deeply and evenly into the canopy...also i just purchased HLG qb288 with sky blue diodes for veg cycles....any info on those would be awesome....HLG can send you some to test out....thanks again for straight up info and easy to understand videos...

    Heya! Love your channel, love your input! I'm sure you're aware of the Migro Channel - something I'd love to see is a third party testing of those lights (also I hope to one day see some sort of collab between you're channels, I'm sure there's a lot of great stuff you could do together).

    • @Albopepper
      @Albopepper  3 роки тому +1

      Thanks for your support Peter! Yes I'm familiar with the MIGRO ARAY lights. When I go to the home page I see an Integrating Sphere with the caption: _"Independently tested and verified"._ I click it and it says in part: _"We publish our tests and associated data for all our products on the website"._ So I click to explore their products. Looking at the Aray 2, I see various specs. But I see no Test Reports. Nothing from an independent lab. No Integrating Sphere data. I don't get it. Have they done the proper 3rd party testing? Because their home page makes it appear that way. But I can't find the reports. Let me know if you ever find the data.

    The UK version of the XS1000 is 100w and has 350 diodes. shame you couldn't include that version in your test, it would be intersting to see the side by side data. Nether the less great informative video👍

    Hi, I am a new urban gardener with a patio that faces northeast in Orlando, FL. I am planning on building a concept of your awesome SIP raised garden bed that will fit my patio to begin my gardening journey! Since I face northeast I am pretty sure hanging some LED lights above my plants will give them the best opportunity to grow. Do you still recommend the P1000 in this kind of set up? I can’t remember if you mentioned it is waterproof or not. I truly appreciate all your work and the information you put out!

    Would love to see such a good review and look at the PB4000 pro with remote and see how it stacks up vs some of the more expensive brands. Seems to be a excellent light especially for the cost considering its running meanwell drivers and samsung diodes.

    honestly thanks so much for this, went down a rabbit hole of led today, was going to go with the sf1000 but then i saw on their newest version that theyre not even using a meanwell driver but their own brand, what do you think of this? also do you think theyre using fake diodes as well? that picture you put up sure looks like it

    I like the idea of having 10 bars ro reach into every nook and cranny. Even at half power I would think more bars could increase yield or quality. Maybe a better proportion of red diodes. Its probably better than having two 500 watt lights. Depends if you have a big square grow area or a rectangle.

    😉 Thank you so so much for this. Wish I watched it when it came out, it would've saved me from buying some very cheaply made but expensive lights. I bought the Monios-L 60W and yes 60W is way too dim. For just 20 USD more I could have gotten much better lights.

  • @olysean92
    @olysean92 3 роки тому +1

    For regular tomatoes at $5/lb, efficiency is everything. But for fruit with a $10-30/g market value, total light is everything. Until you have too much light for a space; then efficiency matters again.
    And I pay $.90/kwh, so 1kw of 12/12 is $324/mo. The TS still wins IMO.
