- Woodturning - In this video I finish turn this huge maple burl, it's not the largest turning I've ever done but it's the largest burl I've ever done! Lots of challenges in completing a finish turning like this and this one was no exception. I will link the roughing out video of this turning at the end so you can see it from start to finish. Thanks for watching and please share with your friends!

I found the "watch on tv" button, So now I can watch on my large screen instead of computer. It makes a world of difference!!!
Yes, that pretty much the way I watch too, can’t comment tho, that the only issue with it. Thanks
This video got me through a major panic attack. So thank you. Lovely bowl.
Awesome! Thank you very much!
Jim you called this hollow form perfectly. It is amazing how Designer Epoxy came up with the hyper shift colors. It adds so much more to the overall beauty of the turnings. Great job.
Thank you! Cheers!
What a beautiful bowl! I don't think I have ever seen anyone else tackle a bowl as large as this one. Thank you again for sharing your work, it is amazing!! ❤🙃
Thanks for watching!
Love the wood turning, my husband and I built custom cabinets. I should say we did, he watches with me and love your work.At lease he enjoys it. We just find out he has stomach cancer and both lungs has cancer, he's 78 and working up until the 3 week of January 2022.
My favourite way to spend a Saturday morning! It’s no surprise to me you’re at 41.2k subscribers! Watching this one is good inspiration - got a brand-new MS661 w 36” bar and I have a 32” dia maple tree down that I hope has a few bowls in it! Just hope my back will hold up! Thanks Jim!
The back is certainly an issue for me too, good luck with that beast and thanks for watching!
Mr. Sprague, I have to say your work is amazing. I’ve been enjoying watching you videos. They’re not only very relaxing. But they’ve allowed me to become interested in woodturning. It’s a skill that I would love to acquire. :)
Thanks Chris!
Jim, your videos rock! You deserve as many subscribers as possible!!!!!
Thanks K, I really appreciate it!
Jim, beautiful as usual. I think that at least part of the reason you are getting more subscribers faster is the format and that you talk to us as you go through the process.Keep up the good work.
You might be right! Thanks
The MonsterMaple burl bowl turned out awesome.
I love all the helpful hints you give in the video.
Thanks 🙏🏻
Terrific bowl Jim, just beautiful. Boy, you don't realize how much effort, time and sandpaper goes into finishing. Thanks again for sharing.
Thanks for watching!
I love this beautiful large bowl. I love the woodgrain and I love the natural edges. And like I said before, every household needs at least one large bowl.
They certainly do, thanks.
I find watching these restful, even with some of the problems you run into. This is another beautiful bowl.
Thanks 😊
Wearing the Tim Horton’s hat, just in case we forgot you’re Canadian. Thanks for sharing your knowledge and experience. Nice vid.
Thanks, that hat has special meaning to me. It was given to soldiers on only two roto’s to Afghanistan when I was in the army. I like to wear it to honor the fallen and to the ones that are still dealing with the effects of the that war. Jim
The bowl turned out really nice . It was a nice change to see wood turning as it used to be! Nice to see from time to to time.
It’s good to get back to my roots every now and then. Thanks for watching
It looks awesome Jim! I noticed the intro difference! Yay it's finally spring! 💯💯💯
It’s getting there. Couple of -20 nights recently but getting better now. Thanks 😊
Lol. You might hit 45,000 subscribers by the time you make the 40,000 bowl! This is beautiful. I love the shape that the live edge gives it.
At this pace you might be right, lol. Thanks 😊
As usual, the bowl is beautiful and very warm in color, the red resin stripe looks almost maket in the bowl...
I hope you have a nice weekend all... bye for now
Thanks and same to you!
Hi Jim, the bowl looks fantastic. I'm not surprised you have 40k subscribers. Your videos are informative and entertaining, and I always look forward to them each week.
Thanks Mark!
Love watching you turn your all wood pieces.
Thanks!
Amazing piece of maple burl. Don’t see that every day. Great work on the turning and finishing! Such a beast!
Thanks!
The rings of the wood make me think of sea shells a little bit. Beautiful bowl.
Theses are Ali’s referred to onion burls too. Thanks
I didn’t realize the monster burl bowl was a commission piece. Nice!
Thanks 😊
This is certainly a big bowl! It's so cool looking too. Amazing job, Jim. 💜
Thanks 😊
What an absolutely magnificent bowl! She's a monster for sure. Turned out to be a real beauty! Keep killin' it man! Take care & God Bless!!!
Thanks! I really appreciate it!
WOWZER!! Man what a GORGEOUS bowl! Its magnificent! You did an outstanding bowl, Jim thank you!!
Thanks for watching!
Stunning is a word that comes to mind. End grain beauty
Thanks!
That bowl is just gorgeous, it is really a wonderful piece. The owner is very lucky.
Agreed, thanks 😊
Your finishes are always so lovely. I really prefer the high gloss that you usually do to the more matte ones. That bowl is MASSIVE!!
Thanks 😊
Good morning, Jim. I'm a little bit behind at commenting. Gotta love this bowl. Everything about it says, "Wow!"
Congratulations on 40,000 subscribers!
Thanks Ray, I really appreciate it!
That certainly is a beautiful bowl. I can just imagine the salad it’s going to hold. Congratulations on the 40k 👍👍
Thanks for watching!
That is one massive bowl. Fantastic work as always. It’s nice to see wood turning like this although your wood and resin bowls are very inspiring. I look forward to your videos every Friday!
Awesome, thanks!
That is a really big bowl. Like you said it's a beast. 😎👍👍👍👍😎😉
Thanks Mike!
Love your channel. I just discovered you and have spent more time than I'm comfortable admitting binging all of your videos the last few days. I really enjoy the processing stuff that we don't get to see on other channels. Looking forward to whatever you do next.
Great! Thanks for watching!
Don't be surprised with your channel growing so fast. There is no drama just educating, entertaining and down right enjoyable content. And some of the most beautiful work I've seen. Great job just keep'm coming.
Thank you so much and thanks for watching!
You released the beauty in that hunkawood. I've learned a new word from you, "chitoyance." I gather it is the cross-grain "grain" that shines, if that makes sense... congratulations on a lovely thing.
Yes, the compression grain is what gives you that look. Thanks
Wow that's a big burl! Nicely done. I really like your "pencil trick", works really well it seems. Again, excellent work👏👏👍👍
Thank you very much!
Jim, that bowl is absolutely massive! 😍 Beautiful finish
Thanks 😊
Thats sure is a BIG bowl , it looks great and i am sure it take a fair amount of energy on your part to do it too . Its good to see you do a all wood bowl again.
Thanks!
Love the bowl, of course, but have been waiting for you to change up the opening to the spring view. Now spring can start 🙂
Just need the decent weather, lol. Thanks
I really enjoy learning about wood working. Thanks for being such a good teacher. 😊
Thanks for watching!
@@SpragueWoodturning your welcome.
Thanks bud for mentioning me on your channel as soon as I get your sticker I'll add it to my sticker board and be in my video. Thanks again hope the snow Is clearing out up there.
Still got it, but spring is sprung, thanks! I will try to promote others when I can. Will get a sticker in the mail in a few days, Jim
Ok bud sounds good thanks again. And beautiful bowl you never disappoint.
As always Jim you did a fantastic job. I'm so amazed in watching your videos that you go to great lengths to produce a product that it truly from your heart. I see great Workman ship in everything you do. Great job
Thanks 😊
You're the man. Let's go big: It's beautiful
Thanks!
A beautiful burl bowl, Jim!! Your attention to detail and clear explanations of what you're doing and the problems you face are why I look forward to seeing your videos every week. Congratulations on reaching 40K mark!!
Thanks!
Beautiful bowl. Love the natural edge. Watching your videos has taught me so much. I can't thank you enough.
Great, thanks for watching!
Jim you deserve everyone of those 40,000 subscribers because the quality of your work is second to none well done my friend
Thanks I really appreciate it!
That is one Big Bowl !👍 Congratulations on 40000 !
Thanks!
I have spent a long time practicing turning with a gauge etc. and watching people with scrapers working on pieces I find boring and skip to the end result, I use carbide scrapers for resin when needed but only when needed. That is why I like watching you work, the end result is a good to look at as the use of the tools to get there. Thank you. I use my tools differently now because of the way you have shown and it has made me a better turner.
Thanks Sonia, I really appreciate it!
Gorgeous! Best wood turning videos !
Thanks 😊
Loved the eagle foot marking on the inside! Beautiful.
Best H
Thanks!
That "turned" out looking amazing
Thanks 🙏
Fantastic! Old school wood turning -- I love it. Thank You.
Thanks for watching!
I look forward to your videos every week, InlayJim. You make good videos and do great work. I suspect you'll have more and more subscribers. Good Stuff!
Thank you so much!
Congrats on reaching 40,000. Nice job on the "monster".
Thanks 😊
The grain in this bowl is really stunning! Lucky owner 👏👏👏
Don’t get too many like this, thanks again!
That bowl is huge . Looks amazing. Great job.
Thanks!
Big and beautiful, the resin looks like a drop of blood running down the side. Love it.
Vampire dairies, lol. Thanks
Yikes !! That is huge. I like the wavy lines of the grain that have been brought out by the finish. Really shiny too. I agree with the large glue block. If it ever got away you would be tracking it through the bush for days. Take care and as always: stay safe.
Thanks bud, it would of ended up in the river, lol.
@@SpragueWoodturning That is right, you are a lefty.
That thing is a monster alright. Turned out fantastic!
Thanks!
Winner! Most benevolent outcomes for me. Gonna set it up proudly 🌿🎉🎊🥰
Thanks
That thing is huge! Big is beautiful for sure. I love the natural finish on the edge. It’s different from what you normally do. But I like it
Thanks 😊
Wow! That Waterlux is amazing! It really does the wood justice, much more than the Osmo. Beautiful bowl! Love all that good chatoyance!
Thank you very much!
That is a BIG bowl!!!!! So nice. I would have loved more character in the grain being burl, but fabulous all the same. Great job!!
A lot of times the figure isn’t that great in these onion burls. Thanks for watching!
That is one BIG bowl. The live edge really sets it apart from others even without the bark. In fact I think I like it better without the bark.
It’s easier to wash and look after. Thanks
Jim I just recently discovered your channel. I am fascinated watching you make something beautiful out of wood.
Thanks 😊
In Crocodile Dundee's voice: that's not a bowl, *THIS* is a bowl!
Haha, totally! Thanks
That is a real giant of a bowl!!!!! Looks great and some more great tips ...
Thanks!
Beautiful bowl Jim! I've probably only turned 25-30 burls in my woodturning life, but I've have seen 3-4 times that many. With that I can honestly say I've never seen a burl like this one where the growth rings of the entire piece are completely uniform. They've always had patches of entangled growth rings... Nice turn... V
Burls like this are also caller onion burls. Thanks
Well done on the extra subscribers you deserve way more but I think they'll come. The beast is a great name for that one alright turned out absolutely unreal, beautiful piece of wood and turning top class as always Jim.
Thanks Martin!
What a brute! Love the concentric rings.
It’s also referred to as an onion burl too, thanks
Another amazing job on this burl bowl. Love watching your videos and I always learn something new.
Great! Thanks!
Beauty and the beast. Beast of a size but really beautiful end grain. As always a great video Jim and fantastic end product. 👍
Thanks!
You did a fantastic job on that bowl Jim. And the shine is amazing!
Thanks!
Wow, that is gorgeous! I love the uneven edge to it, giving it a more natural feel.
Thanks 😊
You’re a very good detail instructor!
Thanks!
Very nice bowl. Those big ones are a real challenge.
Sure are. Thanks
BEAUTIFUL, Huge Monster! Thanks for this lesson.
Thanks for watching!
Wow, that is one big bowl! It looks amazing.
Thanks 😊
I need to find a good lathe. The more of your videos I watch, the more i want to turn. thanks
It’s totally fun! Thanks
Awesome beast of a bowl, Jim. Beautiful work and an excellent tutorial on some of the techniques you used. Thanks, Ron
Thanks Ron!
Great job. I have a giant pierce of oak I think I try after watching this
Great! Thanks
Despite the process I think its a beauty, especially the wood grain.
Thanks 🙏
I love this piece. I feel like this would make a great statement piece for a modern or neutral toned mid-century modern room.
Agreed! Thanks for watching!
That was an awesome turn in a large bowl
Thanks!
That turned out amazing Jim so beautiful take care and God bless
Thanks 🙏
That bowl is a beast and looks heave and beautiful
Thanks!
Beautiful turning outstanding 👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻

Love it!

Another great piece Jim ‘monster’ indeed!
Thanks 🙏
Wow! She’s a beauty. Glad she’ll actually be used. Salad for 12 maybe?
Or 20, lol. Thanks 😊
Hi Jim, hope all is well. The beast is stunning just beautiful, thanks for the video.😍😍🙏🍁
Thanks for watching!
When I saw that this was a burl I was anticipating more twisty grain - which I really like. This bowl is still beautiful though.
Not much of that in this onion burl. Thanks for watching!
Wow. Whatta bowl. That Waterlox does a great job.
Yes it does! Thanks
Beautiful bowl. Really wish You Tube would fix it so we could add comments to videos on the TV instead of having to open the mobile app to add comments. I love to use my TV to watch the videos on then I have a hard time finding the video I want to comment about.
We do the same thing. Thanks for watching!
Another beautiful project, I envy your talent.
Thanks!
Great job on the bowl and congrats on the 40k+! Thx for sharing and take care
Same to you and thanks!
