    I remember finding John's 49 Jackie randomly thrown on top of a box of Topps baseball Desert Shield cards in his garage. I just assumed it was a fake because it just didn't belong in that box. Graded a PSA 1 and sold for just under $5K. I love that set.

    Love the Antiques Roadshiw , they have baseball cards / sports memorabilia pretty regularly. Condition is amazing on these cards. Should grade really well . Personally, i think they were low or their estimate of 150K . A couple of the Jackie Robinsons look like solid PSA 5-6 .

    Speaking of PBS Shows- This Old House, would be an excellent sponsor candidate for Attic Find Fridays. Bob Villa says, "let's go up to the attic to see what Norm is working on." Norm say's "I just found a trunk full of old baseball cards." Bob says, "turn off the camera and let's get that trunk loaded up into my van- pronto before the owners return home". Mike, it's late getting a little goofy- thanks for sharing and Good Collecting👍👍💗💗

    SCD reporting that these cards will be auctioned. IMHO by an auction house not equipped to sell sports collectibles. Let’s hope they are slabbed by PSA prior to auction. I would bet one of the more prominent auction houses makes a deal to secure this find.

    My dad - born in 1929 - talked of his valuable baseball card collection & we should “ask Nana” where she keeps them. She claimed she forgot what happened to them. One sunny day in St. Louis in the early 80s. I’m sitting on my grandparents porch and a kid rides by on a bicycle with some cards in his spokes…. He yells out at me tell your grandmother thanks for the cards.!!!

    I'm going to be pedantic here, and call this version the 'Antiques Roadshow (US)' - even if the show itself doesn't make the distinction. The 'Antiques Roadshow' has been going since the late 1970s, and is a British institution. The American version aired about 20 years later. My preference is for the original, but I will enthusiastically watch the US version too - great to see the contrasting items that are brought to both versions of the show, from different sides of the 'pond'.
    It's a great find! I like how they bring in actual experts from established auction houses (or well-established independent appraisers), rather than the likes of 'experts' such as Steve Grad, John Reznikoff, et al. - who have appeared as 'experts' for Pawn Shops.

    Do you know for sure the leaf were produced in 48? Were they produced in November or December? Because all the wringing on the back gives full summaries of the 48 season so could not have been produced during the season.

      @@JunkWaxHero the year seems to still be a mystery. It’s possible they were distributed after the season but doesn’t make sense they would distribute them at the same time as the football cards during football season. My best guess is they have to be 1949.

    I would keep one of each and sell the rest. The questions I would have to answer is :
    1 - Would I keep the best or the worst copy of each?
    2 - Would I grade any of them or all of them?
    3 - Would I consider one of the variations as a different card and keep it as well?
    Decisions, decisions! 🤔

  • @jpcards
    @jpcards 4 місяці тому +1

    Like many here, I'd keep one of each and sell the rest, but I'd sell them over a few years, not all at once, since there's potentially a decent little income stream there. I definitely would stagger two Jackie Robinsons: it ranges $12K-$15K in PSA VG / VG-EX (current VCP average), which those looked to be at least at first glance and kind of backs up Lipman's valuation.

    Seeing how the antiques roadshow had no idea how to properly protect those cards for display was pretty embarrassing. Placing a magnet on top of cards of that caliber without protection was horrible. And the gentleman not explaining grading to the lady. I would never support antiques roadshow after seeing this.

  • @scottleppard288
    @scottleppard288 4 місяці тому

    Like you said, I hope antique roadshow did cut vital information out of the filming for time purposes. I don't think they did. See, I believe if this antique roadshow had any knowledge of sports trading cards, especially, these, they wouldn't have been displayed on a felt board held with magnets. I saw that and cringed. Great vid though, nicely done!

    well just from the video you showed. they all look to be in pretty good condition. as long as there is no creasing or corner dings. the majority of those are easily 4s to 6's wiht a couple of possible higher. they all looked pretty good. looked like a coupe of the ruth's had a crease in them. but of course those cards are all going to get graded.

  • @in2rock275

    You have to understand that the show is trying to appeal to as many viewers as possible. How many are actually card collectors is anyone's guess. That being said, the casual viewer is not going to understand terms such as variations, PSA, SGC, graded, etc. Therefore he's using terms that most of the audience would understand. If he were to start discussing details and terms of endearment to us card collectors, they could probably turn the 8-10 segment into 30 minutes or more.

    We know pbs produced this content for a general audience. If memory lane handled this situation the same then a video from sports card radio would be in order. Still it's fair given the appraiser didn't pronounce Musial correct does make him suspect. The pronounciation of Honus was likely established by the card community because regardless of how great of a player he wss his legecy became cemented in 1909 regardless of how as it happened his card was inserted into tobacco at an extremely low rate.

    Keep in mind that the average view of that program gives zero fornications about deep diving into sports cards. I reckon it's the dollars quoted that hits the sweet spot, regardless if it's a Ming vase or a Ya Ming rookie. Most non-sports carbon-based forms also don't know Warren Spahn from Jessica Hahn. They need to trim down into tidy segments and move onto the next cedar chest segment. My work here is down. Cheers.

Too many people new to the hobby are beholding to a grading process that is flawed, inconsistent and possibly fraudulent. Value should be what you are willing to pay, grading is ruining this hobby, taking it from collectors and turning it too investers. You will soon be complaining about the 1 percent.

She’s obviously not a sports card collector, so it would benefit her and her family most by converting them to cash, and putting that cash into an IRA, or real estate, or maybe Gold, to protect the value for her future (or her children’s future).
