Is Topps actually improving their customer service? Or was it just one pretty good week?
Ooof. That Mantle they turned into an Archives auto made me cringe. Took a nice authentic vintage card, and ruined it(IMO) with an Archives gold stamp, and an arbitrary serial number of their choice.
I guess it’s a cool way to get it into a collectors hand for the lower cost. But at the same time, if I stamped a card as 1/1, and add some silly foil logo on a card, grading companies would consider that altered.
Yeah I’m not a huge fan either but it also doesn’t bother me since there are so many Mantle autographs
There are autographed Wemby and Stroud in Topps series 2 Baseball! I wonder what other surprises there will be?! More Kevin Hart cards?!

My guess is Target is tracking multiple purchases by credit card to determine whos "reselling". Let's say Target sees that John Doe has spent an average of $140,000 ea year on cards, that sends a red flag. Just my 2c
I worked for the Orlando Magic in the late 90s. Early 2000s upper deck showed up at training camp and halfway through the year for the new players that were on the team
Yeah these couple scumbags that stole things at these two different thefts, I really hope they've got to pay everything back !! I know exactly what it feels like to have sports cards stolen from me.. it sucks !

Once you pay after an auction, you have to refresh the cart screen in order for the notification to go away. It bothers me to go to sleep with any notifications!
If you get in contact with a redemption specialist at Topps, they will work with you on a substitution. If you click on the substitution button on Topps, it will be random. I tweeted at Fanatics, who got me in contact with Topps regarding an outstanding Byron Buxton relic auto /10. Topps gave me an offer that I could take, or stay with my redemption - a David Ortiz dual relic auto # 1/25. I easily took it over the Buxton.
That’s a great trade!
I don’t collect modern but I can tell you that Topps has been “photoshopping” since at least the 1960’s to deal with players going to new tee teams before they could get an updated photo in time for the release of the product. Doesn’t seem like a huge deal.

Doctoring uniforms has been happening for years. The Ohtani photoshop work is impressive. Better than the 1988 Topps Kevin Mitchell hand painted jersey

Thanks Mike. Immediate pay for eBay auctions blows up opportunities for combined shipping. I regularly try to take advantage of combined shipping. Also going to hurt customers in Colorado because we have to pay $0.28 per order. If orders can’t be combined into the shopping cart it makes purchasing low dollar cards problematic. eBay needs to quit punishing customers and target those who are the problem.

I can see this being an issue, too. It works well on Auction Ninja, but the sellers there are closing their entire auction at the same time, so it makes perfect sense. With eBay sellers ending auctions at random times, this could definitely become a problem with lower-end cards.
One thing that I don't think you mentioned is that it sounds like this is a seller option that they have to turn on. So it won't automatically apply to all auctions. If it did, it would kill the small card market on eBay, or at least the small card with $5 shipping market. Imagine winning 5 cards for a dollar each and then having to pay $5 shipping on each one of them.
@@allankotmel1795 I won two last week from the same seller who refused to combine shipping. I ended up paying $11 to ship 2 cards in the same bubble mailer. Some sellers just don't care about the people buying.
@@allankotmel1795 Thanks for the clarification. The immediate pay for offers has made it impossible to make your own lots from listings unless the seller is willing to work with you through messaging.

My thoughts on a few of the items discussed (for what they're worth):
On the photo-shopping:
I think it should be declared on the card. I can see why they do it, and I know it's a slippery slope, but if they are portraying the individual as being in a uniform he wasn't in for the image, then they should be transparent about it. Less shadiness, more openness.
Ebay and automatic payment after winning an auction :
This really should've been implemented 20+ years ago. Better late than never, I suppose. Now they've just got to do something about their fees... and the fees they charge on taxes! Dare to dream! 🤔
Target's 'targeting' of reselling :
There's few things that illustrate the decline in society than seeing grown men fight over packs of cards (or toys, or video games, etc.) in public. With that said, Target is a for-profit, publicly-traded company, answerable to their share-holders. Their mandate is to sell items in their store, and make a profit. Resellers are a part of their success. If people are stripping your shelves of stock... that's GREAT for share-holders... buy more stock (items)! If people are behaving poorly in store, then 'target' them. Trading cards aren't essential items to people's survival. Get a grip, Target.
(I come at this from a point of pragmatism...but realise my opinion on this may be unpopular)

That was not the substitution he received... it was a substitution they offered him, he rightly declined. Several times Topps has promised me certain substitutions which I have approved only for Topps to sit on it for months and switch it up on me, even though I had agreements in writing (email).
I really look forward to the day when I can pay $23,000 for a card and then not get too upset when it comes up fake. Good on that dude!

Sunday funday with clearing the bases. My topps redemption story, submitted a marshawn lynch five star auto redemption. Never got fulfilled and they replaced it with an Antonio brown base auto. One year later he jogged off the field waving bye.

"I don't regret it." Your heavy sigh says otherwise, Mike. You are not alone. I sold many vintage cards in the early 2000s before taking a long vacation from the hobby; if I had held them and sold only the bottom half in 2021-22, well, I would be an entirely different level of hobbyist today. There were grail cards that are worth 10X and more now. (heavy sigh)
Yeah I don’t regret it YET but I’m afraid I will. And much sooner than I anticipated.
I did the same thing with probably 500 vintage...like a 1962 Mantle probably VG for 90 dollars.
I have the color var of bo bichette from heritage 2024. The base has him as shortstop but the variation has him listed as 2nd base.?.?.?

I to don’t see the need to drop $75 just to grade with PSA.it’s gotta be the set registry which I don’t get either.

Starting to look for these on my Sunday morning always enjoy! You probably have a pump or maybe just a wiring failure if it's not raining cats and dogs that might cause the tank to fill from ground water. Good luck it doesn't eat into the card budget 🤞

Congrats on 9k! It's possible I'm in the minority but I completely disagree with you on Tatum vs. Luka. I find Tatum to be very likeable and Luka the exact opposite. While most Superstars seem entitled to get every possible foul call go their way, Luka is beyond extreme. It feels like EVERY single possession in which he touches the ball, he is whining and moaning about a missed call. It's tiresome.

Just make the Clark auto a repressed memory. That is what I did lol. Still no regrets on my RAV4 which engine failed after 150k miles.

The Photoshopping of Shohei doesn't bother me as much as the horrible amateurish job Topps used to do in the old days, painting a new cap on a player who has been traded. This at least looks realistic. What do the complainers want, Shohei in an Angels uniform for the 2024 set?? Do they want the 2024 set delayed until summer so he can be shown in a Dodgers uniform??

Fun fact!
Being upcharged by PSA for grading a more valuable card is a racket. What other types of markets have this sort of payment type? It appears only in these antiquated markets. PSA puts no more work into grading a more expensive card. PSA is simply able to leverage more money from the customer for nothing. It's a win for them because it's more money with no added liability. Keeping this antiquated market system in place is a major component of every decision by PSA.
Regarding the resellers by Target - I can see them being irritated with the people who search packs. That's one reason packs sit on shelves for so long: because people know they've been searched. I think most business resellers have a tax exempt status on purchases in my state. About any reseller would take advantage of a tax free purchase. And it would be easy to identify resellers who requested a tax free purchase, although most reseller purchases are for office products or restaurant items. This message from Target is to just the pack searchers without calling them that IMO. Interestingly in my state there is also limits on purchases of drug making precursors, such as cold medicine pills. I just wonder which day the universe of the addicted card purchaser gets entangled with the universe of the addicted drug user. Then they're viewed as much more similar than different. It's probably not far down the road.
Not sure why it would upset people. I am upset people run to the internet to complain in place of education opportunity. Simply knowing when cards are printed and approved for each series would eliminate an opportunity for people to cry on the internet.
Wanders I would still list the cards you have in hand. 20.00 is different than the 4x they were offering a while back. A lot of Topps collectors, purists will need cards of his to complete sets.
It will be interesting to see how Panini plays out once Topps rolls out the 1st boxes of licensed Basketball and Football.
I would wait for the Adley and Gunnar. They are signing in all of this year's product, but nice replacement. Love auto pay on ebay. I love the offers I send that ask for payment type if accepted. Saves me a step.
PSA, simple as you said. Go elsewhere, but hey we love the internet to pour out all our negative feelings. Either that or howl at the moon 😊

Luka has a polarizing effect. Love or hate you have an opinion and want to share it. Tatum is just Tatum. 🤷♂️ You know he's good but he doesn't do anything extra. Emotionally i mean..it's why he's not the #1 guy on his team "officially" imo. Brown often becomes more like the superstar archetype
Tatum is better in fundamentals and other things, but Jaylen is more explosive and decisive.
I'm waiting on the Panini Prison Wander Franco to come out.
I could care less about what photo Topps uses for Ohtani...there will be many more new ones. Regarding Luka Doncic......the league needs to start officiating him correctly and start calling offensive fouls on him.

Looks like Tatum has put in the most work to elevate his game and his team. I find him like-able from a basketball perspective more than ever and feel his card prices will actually move up over time. I think he’ll surprise and have a couple championships in him.
Also, BGS is just a terrible grading company in so many ways. The PMG is no surprise at all to me

@@JunkWaxHero He might consider changing up the haircut, but his game on the court is outstanding and definitely shows significant improvement this year. I can’t say for sure how fun he is to watch play until I see him in person like Jokic, Ant man, and Wemby. Speculating it would be cool to see the Celtics in arena though, especially the Boston Garden

I wish the hobby would just accept it’s the same 25 year old who didn’t get laid the night before grading your card at PSA, SGC and CGC. Paying $75 to grade a $500 QB rookie speculation card that could easily be worth $35 after a bad season or two is insane. Give the other guys some love who will grade anything for under $20.
Airbrushing is always intended to deceive….it’s sort of funny when you see airbrushed cards from the ‘70s and you chuckle about lazy Topps airbrushing an old photo to fool the kiddos…but it’s an adult hobby now…we understand that you don’t have a photo of the guy in a Dodger uniform…
It's ironic that PSA will punish you for sending in an altered card (trimmed, cleaned, etc.), but have no problems with an obviously photoshopped pic of Ohtani.
