I had a kitty cat, that I loved to pieces, God rest her soul, and she would do this all day long, and bring me stuffed beany toys from around the house and into my room. If my bedroom room door was closed, she would pile them up against the door. Her name was Baby, and I miss her so much. Never had two cats that had the same personalities, I think they are all do unique.
They are just as unique as people are, and also just as similar, since people aren't really all that different from one another. What makes each one unique is the combination and proportion of characteristics that everyone has to some degree or another. For example, every human being possesses some degree of cruelty, On one end, you have sadistic serial killers, on the other, you have lovely, kind, generous people who sometimes have cruel thoughts, which they dismiss My beloved void girl loved to play fetch, chirping and squeaking and occasionally yelling. But she didn't bring me things spontaneously. She just left the things she most liked to chase where I'd be sure to find them, like in my shoes or on my pillow. As time went on, she started dropping them where I could see her. When he was young, Harpo did that with bottle caps. He was very stimulated by the sound of a bottle cap clattering on a hardwood floor. If I started dropping one, he'd come running. But he also would occasionally bring me a random fridge magnet or piece of paper, never letting me see him take it, and dropping it at the threshold. Meera and Harpo were similar, yet different. But their differences would have narrowed if I had only trained Harpo the way I trained Meera. My behavioral science professor had bet me I couldn't get her to drop the toy right into my hand, as the instinct to drop it a few feet away was so strong. I won that bet by putting a piece of tape across the hall, and only throwing it back when she dropped it on my side. Once she was doing that consistently, I started inching closer to the tape. It was more casual with Harpo, we didn't use a tape. He had learned to either drop them within easy reach or swat them closer when we lost our home, and had to spend 18 months confined in one room most of the time, desperate for stimulation. So it was Harpo's habit of surreptitiously stealing magnets and bits of paper that I shaped and amplified through training, putting his favorites around the room and hiding my head under the blankets.
Amazing, given his age and how much weight he's lost. He's finally starting to put it back on. He's had pancreatitis for a while, and his latest flareup has lasted so long that it looks like he may have developed irritable bowel as well. He'll see an internist in a couple weeks, in the interim, he's just getting plain boiled chicken with a small amount of prescription food, lots of Fortiflora, and some fish oil mixed in.
My cat has a green ducky stuffy she carrys around, howling. Your Harpo is cuter because the size of the big stuffy. My kitty has too small of a mouth for that. 😂
