Every era of Miles has something to offer, as far as I'm concerned. People get so upset when artists they admire don't stay frozen in time. It's a shame, really.
I agree but I think its also totally acceptable to like a specific era of Miles and not like another one. You dont have to like EVERYTHING Miles did just because you really liked some of it. And that is totally fine, no one will get offended.
@@moistpeanut5986 I agree with you as well. My issue is less that people may not like everything, and more that some people feel that only the stuff they like has any value, or is "good". Should've clarified.
Miles always succeeded in surrounding himself with excellent musicians. Again here in the 80-ies. I really love the sound and their individual performances. I treasure this CD so much that I've been searching to buy a second copy. Just in case. And didn't find one! OMG! That is scary.
That is straight up a bass guitar. He is playing lead bass, his signal has been altered through the use of effects etc so it sounds like a guitar but he is playing a bass with the smallest gauge of bass string.

I am always amazed by the variety of music that comes from a Miles Davis group. This concert does not even range over half of Miles Davis' contributions. His music will always be a gift to humanity.
If you love Foley on the lead bass guitar, watch his other concerts with Miles, and an interview with Miles where he talked about Foley and his other musicians. I had the opportunity to see them together many times. What a great time that was, camping out for two weeks at a camp ground close to Montreux and take in the best live concerts ever, like Marcus Miller! Hell I’m so ready to go see Marcus live again once this Covid crap is over!
I was there as well! I’m Swiss and during that time I travelled all over to see Miles live! I miss him, the only musician that brought tears in my eyes when he died in 91!
Breath taking ... such a brilliant band under the direction of a legend is beautifully devastating ...a nuclear explosion of funnkiness. Miles just brings it.
true, but this is 8o% fusion/funk, less jazz imo...but actually, it doesn`t matter at all what we call it, doesn`t it?! it`s simply the music of mr.davis i`d say;-)
Saw them when I was a kid with my dad! This band was very good. I remember Marilyn Mazur and Rick Wellman! Incredible drumming & rythm sections! Foley also was a player!

Thank you for posting this!! I had the 20 CD Montreux box set back in the day, never got around to buying the DVD set. Great to see the video of this incredible concert. This one and his 4 sets from 1985 were my favorites from the CD box set
Miles Davis culte mais Kenny Garrett était absolument fabuleux ce soir là. Je crois me souvenir qu'à un moment Miles lui souffle à l'oreille "This is YOUR night." Magique!
I am sure this is a concert for a novice like myself, but I enjoyed it more than anything I had previously heard by Miles. I realise it is time to work on that novice thing.Thank you,you have made a change in my life.
Saw this same band April 15, 1988 in the 300 capacity small club, the Coach House in Orange County, CA. It was loud and Foley and Kenny Garrett literally blew the roof off. Sad these days are over.
J don't love this kind of music, but j can't ignore his talent . PS: J'v 4 CDs bought in London in the late 90' and a lot of other jazz singer and musicians.😮
Je suis un inconditionnel de MILES DAVIS . IL est venu en GUADELOUPE en Février 1990 , à cette époque je n'ecoutais pas encore du Miles , quel regret.

Probably one of the best live performances I can recall EVER from anyone. Saw 3 live! What a blessing
