  • I was worried about starting an album like this, because it means so much to so many people, as I've learned from your comments. I think the opening may catch you off guard on this one too. The new theme song is from a demo I'll be putting out later this month, available on my Patreon / andyeff
    I filmed three initially, but am putting them out one at a time, since they're about 10 mins each. Look out for the next songs coming out soon!

    There's a repeated theme throughout this album that's very Robert Frost "The Road Not Taken". Happy things ended up how they did but curious what could have been. Glad you enjoyed it! As much as I love Long Pond the sound of the actual album is so much richer in my opinion. But it's always fun to hear her more stripped down versions. And fun to see her, Aaron, and Jack vibing together.

    Folklore: The Long Pond Studio Sessions is a disney+ movie... Taylor and her co-producers explains the meanings of each song before playing it
    It is better to watch the movie instead of the cut UA-cam clips
    And you have to listen to the studio version of the songs because the production is very beautiful and interesting and you will like it more than the acoustic version
    Great reaction so excited for the rest!

    I think that what's so beautiful about folklore and evermore is that it was truly just Taylor telling stories based in emotions she's felt, so it's specific without judging details, and coming from a place of future reflection. And I think she is particularly skilled, as a lyricist, at expressing a detailed narrative and putting emotions into words (with her specifics, analogies, word choice etc.). So every song has a nostalgic and reflexive/aware feeling, while not judging? Almost like pondering over memories? So the lyrics genuinely express hoping her ex is "doing cool shit", while being sad, but also really happy with where she's at. The albums is bittersweet and complex. I really think you'll like it, I hope you love it!

    I think, overall, it's about the reminiscing of the good feelings you felt back then and how they brought to where you are now, so, yet curious about what might have been, you feel almost grateful for what happened... I don't know, it's a romantic feeling about whats not romantic anymore...

    I’m a huge fan of the Long Pond Sessions. As a musician, you’d appreciate the instrumentals on folklore and evermore. Long Pond as much as I love it, is more stripped down from an already stripped down song. Hope you listen to the album version at the same time to compare the two, and to hear the instrumentals in the album version. Loving these rx!

    Something to know going into Folklore (and Evermore), a lot of these songs aren't directly about her own experiences. A few are, but many are fictional stories she formed while in quarantine in early/mid 2020. I imagine her own past experiences colored some of the sentiments, but the plots aren't directly about herself.

    I think it's all about envisioning different versions of how things could have ended in this past relationship, but at the same time being relieved that after all it wasn't the one. That's the vibe I'm getting at least but I might be interpreting it through the context of other songs on the album.

      Yeah, and if this was about Matty then I’m sure now she’s SO relieved it didn’t work out but she had to go through it instead of always wondering if he was “the 1”. Kinda reminds me of that Garth Brooks song “Unanswered Prayers” - “some of God’s greatest gifts are unanswered prayers”

    It´s cool to see everyone has a different interpretation of the song. I personally view it as peacefully looking back on a relationship that was pretty great but didn´t work out for whatever reason. And now both people are in different places in their lives and that´s okay, but you still wonder sometimes what it could have been: it would have been fun if you would have been the one.

    Very happy to see reactions like yours where honesty is present even when tearing up. Taylor's songs have that effect of bringing up emotions that were dormant in order to explore them again and understand them. It has helped me personally. 'The 1' and all the other songs on the album are about coming to terms with an ended relationship that had roller-coaster emotions which, as you stated, probably was not resolved. Most things in life go unresolved due to unexpected changes and probably that is why her latest albums sound so mature, because she doesn't try to change other people anymore or blame them but accepts them and goes with the flow. It is still not clear who the muse for folklore and evermore was because they were very very sad albums. It is doubtful they were about her current boyfriend because they have stated they are happy doing normal things privately. That is their business but the fans can't help but wonder because she likes dropping hints and it has become like a guessing game.
    The thing that Taylor has officially stated many of the songs are 'fictional' but in my opinion every song has a core of truth that she experienced in different phases of her life and decided to change some details to make it more interesting. Anyway, her songs in the last two albums show ambiguity in meaning because they can be applied to different relationships whether it is romantic, platonic, family. Although most of the songs are depressing at times, Taylor chose to leave bright little hope that everything will be alright in the end, usually in her closing tracks. She is very good at writing depressing lyrics that are matched to an up-beat rhythm.
    Thank you for doing those reactions! looking forward to more and hope you react to Red (Taylor's version) when it comes out or other of her live performances when you finish with folk/more. :D

    Nbd releasing them separately!! Thanks for watching the whole Longpond Andrew, I think you're really going to enjoy it!
    A little background (this is long sorry)..
    The two dudes are her friends and collaborators for this album, both are very talented producers and artists on their own.
    The guy on piano is Aaron Dessner, he's w the bands 'The National' and 'Big Red Machine'. It you like the instrumentation of these songs, check out those bands as it's a very similar sound. Justin Vernon of Bon Iver fame is the 2nd half of Big Red Machine, you'll hear him on this album in the song Exile. Taylor connected w Aaron because she's a huge National fan, they had great professional chemistry and have become friends. He's credited on many of these songs as a cowriter as well as producer.
    The dude with the glasses on guitar is Jack Antonoff, longtime friend and producer. He's produced on many of her previous records and 5 (?) songs from Folklore. See if you can spot a sound difference from one song to another, it'll be hard with acoustic but maybe a fun challenge. He also produced many mannny amazing songs in the pop world, including Lorde's 'Melodrama' (a masterpiece) and Lana Del Ray's 'Norman Fucking Rockwell' (a masterpiece lol). He also has a band called Bleachers.
    Whew! 😅

  • @abbyalip3438
    @abbyalip3438 2 роки тому +2

    The song does definitely show the complexity of relationships especially after they end. I think that when she says “if one thing had been different” she herself also doesn’t know what that thing could be. I think when she says “one thing” she’s emphasizing that they really could’ve worked out, and she’s left wondering under what circumstances, with what changes, that could’ve been. Also the whole “if you wanted me you really should’ve showed” plus “it could’ve been sweet if it would’ve been me” sounds like even if she may have been the one to end it, they didn’t really treat her like the 1. Like maybe they both kind of gave up on eachother for so many reasons that seem unimportant now after the fact.

  • @eschrad
    @eschrad 2 роки тому +1

    I don’t think this song is about one particular relationship, but rather reflecting on a number of past relationships that didn’t work out for one reason or another. In some she was the dumper, and in some she was the dumpee. In some she was wronged, but in others she was IN the wrong. Some relationships were serious, and broke down in a dramatic way. Some relationships just fizzled out before they could really ever get started. The song is about all the different ways two people just weren’t meant to be THE ONE for the other - bad timing, bad choices, or just simple incompatibility - no matter how much you cared about them or loved them or maybe could have loved them. And it’s about the “what if’s” that we dwell on when mourning a failed relationship before we actually do find the person who is The One for us.

    So many great lines in this song, “you know the greatest films of all time were never made.” I think it’s about the potential that we all feel in relationships and people. So when it ends unexpectedly it really adds to the lines, “we were something.” Like, we could have been the greatest of all time. Also, “dig up the grave another time” it’s like they both know it’s been laid to rest, but sometimes they can’t help but bring up the past, just to see if maybe we if we can revisit it once more we could put it back together. It’s soooo good. Also, I’ve been in these situations, and this is how the interactions go, and it’s sooo good

    NOT hooking up with girls on the internet; she is dreaming about him because she misses him. (Her irl good buddy, Ryan Reynolds, was involved w/promoting a new online dating service about this time). The One moved on (with his "chosen family" ----someone _not _ her) but she didn't. It is fiction. In an interview w/Zane Lowe after Evermore was released, she says she (and boyfriend, Joe Alwyn) both just like writing sad songs. She didn't do any interviews after folklore's release; they were mostly done by Aaron Dessner. I suspect she just wanted to bring him more into people's awareness. Sales of his band, The Nationals, and Justin Vernon's band(or project) Bon Iver spiked following the album release and their media exposure.

    I think it's pretty clear that this song isnt about a recent break up that she is still going through the motions of getting over and is pretending she is doing good and putting on a brave face. This song very clearly is reminiscing in a long lost love and talking about could have beens, and how even though now the narrator is over the relationship and doing good she still wonders how great they could have been if they had worked out. I connect with this song deeply because this is my current emotional state lol
    Gossip time/explanation time about my interpretation for the interested, I met the most meaningful person in my love life (up to date) while I was doing an international exchange program for a year. I have never connected more with anyone else even though not only were we from different countries and didn't speak each other's main language and didn't study anything even remotely related but we also were from different cultural/political backgrounds. None of us had plans for our future that would allow us to live in the same country (in fact we have been in different continents for a while now) so it was pretty much doomed from the start. We only knew each other for less than a year, I was super young when this happened (20/21) and never had hopes for anything. And yet. And yet, even though it's been a few years now and I am pretty much over him, I still wonder sometimes, what could have been if we had been in the position to give it a real shot, and as Taylor says in The One's bridge, "If one thing had been different, would everything be different today?" Would we be together, if not so much had been against us? And what if he hadn't been so adamant that it would be too much, could we have planned something that would allow us to be in the same time and space for real in the future? Again, I made my peace with this situation a while now, have liked other people and put myself out there since, but still, when you are low and sad it's hard not to think about what ifs and what could have beens

    Dear Andrew,
    I can feel your emotions as someone who has been hurt before too by a break up, just like many other people. I hope time will soon heal all your open wounds, help you truly move on and find your actual happiness.
    I LOVE folklore and evermore, I personally think this song is one of the few uplifting songs on the albums so now you know what you are going to experience listening to this beautiful art. I think these albums are her best work, the dept of the lyrics and her ability to capture real human emotions with them and also the captivating yet mellow production by Aaron Dessner makes these albums masterpieces.

    If you watch the documentary while listening, Taylor explains how she wrote the songs and what they mean. This was from a concert film where they alternated between performing a song and speaking about it.

    It's not really a break up song. It's a few years later "what could have been?" thoughts song. And it's not actually about Taylor
