- YES! This is a clear homage to a classic old reggae tune! But Ren has made it his own in a truly unique way, mashing up his stream of consciousness freestyle sounding lyrics with a classic reggae hit. He solos on ACOUSTIC here, in this simple but awesome live performance video of his recent hit.

He’s self taught - learnt guitar from UA-cam - so didn’t learn the rules - made his own!
Some people get lost in tuition, tutoring and/or technique and a sense of perfection thru auto tune? as opposed to some forms of inspiration 🤔 ouch. We get scared and try not to make any mistakes? Sometimes there is perfection in some mistakes...🤔
@@milagalvin8632 I was under the impression, from his previous interviews & statements that Ren made that his mum was a Drama teacher who also played a bit of piano & his father is a licensed professional Psychologist with a life long hobby of collecting obscure and rare musical instruments from different cultures from around the world and taught himself how to play them in their traditional form. So in a way his parents were influential in inspiring him creatively to better himself on his own. 😍✌️🔥
@@milagalvin8632he may have learned some from his father, but he has said on several occasions that he learned from watching UA-cam. He has also stated that when he's composing his music, he decides what he wants to play and then figure out the techniques that work best for him.
_Ren_ the swiss army knife of music.
That is a class comment - love it .
Thats amazing!!!🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥 Fucking love it man!!🔥🔥🔥🔥
It's so funny you say you're not supposed to do that on an accoustic 😅. Ren said in an interview that he doesn't conform to the standard rules for music and for the composition of songs etc. He does it as he feels😅. Which makes his music so much more refreshing. People are tired of the regurgitated main stream crap these days.
Thank you I very much enjoyed your reaction to Ren’s acoustic version of Murderer. I was also blown away by his ability to rap while keeping a different melody going on the guitar. This man has endless talent.
Awesome reaction bro. I dropped a sub. One thing not many people pick up on and you noticed it and called it out is if you watch Ren's right hand he's giving hand signals to the other guitarist. They're subtle and disguised by him moving his arm/hand like he's jiving with the music, which he is, but if you pay attention to it one of the signals is the universal sign for "stop" with the closed fist that bikers use and us in the military when on silent patrols to have everyone stop their movement. And when he does it the guitarist is watching him and he stops. He does it on the part "For goodness sake man I'm ready to break man"
Also in the very beginning of the song when Ren starts singing "Out in the streets they call it Murder" when Ren starts singing Murder you'll see his arm move up as he's singing "Murrrrr" then drop it down when he switches to "Derrrrr" and when he drops his hand and arm down the other guitarist who's watching him starts playing.
It's awesome seeing him controlling the pace and other guy that's with him. But I also think he's doing that because I don't know how much time they've had together to practice seeing as Ren has been in Canada getting treatment, this video was filmed in California and the other guitarist is also from California. But it's awesome seeing them working together so flawlessly.
Great catch, I had noted one of those signals but I missed the others.
Ren's is giving homage in his new opening to Ina Kamoze (In the streets they call it MURDER) but right after that Ren plays the same guitar riff of Barrington Levy's "Murderer" scatting and all before going into his own song . Ren also gives homage to Dr. Dre with the guitar riff from Dre's "Next Episode" ft. Snoop Dog. (probably because this was shot in LA while Ren was on holiday. Also Beeotch was a tip of the hat to Snoop who was the 1st to coin it). I believe Ren's guitar solo was an homage to another one of Ren's musical influences Django Reinhardt. Reinhardt being the famous Jazz guitarist who; if I'm not mistaken, was actually the 1st to introduce Jazz to the UK. In my humble opinion, that was very much a 30-40's riff reminiscent of Reinhardt's music. 💖 Cheers ✌✌😁.
spot on saved me ten minutes typing
RENaissance!! Preorder Sick Boi. Let’s get him to #1. #renmakesmusic. #sickboi.
Hi Andrew, Ren started early in his musical career mixing and making beats. He has absorbed a wealth of multi-generational genres all the way back to medieval times from festivals that his hippe parents took him to as a child where he sold his mix tapes. I believe Ren's illness has been both a curse and a blessing as his brain nerve connections move at a speed we can hardly comprehend. He has lightening burts of inspiration followed by tragic exhaustion. A muliti-instrumentalist, Ren describes that he sees music in shapes and although he attended traditional studies in music, he was unable to do it traditionally. This was true for the likes of Glen Campbell an ( as you know) amazing gutarist could not read music. Sometimes these gifts are unexplainable. A Gift.
That part you said is kinda bluesy was an homage to the Dr Dre and Snoop song The Next Episode since he was playing this in LA.
Loved this reaction.
Genuine appreciation for the man AND his music.
Gets me EVERY time .
A bit of background: most of his newer songs (the last releases since sick boi) were all written (and recorded? not sure on that) before the success of Hi Ren, during the pandemic when Ren was feeling quite low. The new releases are all very good and very interesting (Murderer was on of them) and offer a different perspective of Ren on himself and the world around him during those dark times!
He actually just finished the final vocal recordings for the remaining songs a few days ago!
I've felt since I heard this get the solo feels like Django Reinhardt playing blues. It's got a bit of "Minor Swing" vibe in it.
Phillip's wife Susan here. Great reaction. Enjoyed hearing your perspective on this one.
Ren is the artist of a lifetime!
I could listen to your breakdowns FOREVER... your respect for music in general and openness to genre blending, bending, inventing what have you... I really enjoyed this and I've subscribed. Looking forward to your insights. ( not just Ren's awesomeness 😂❤❤❤)
i love your excitement! he does have a produced version of this they are both fun! he does animal flow this way with 2 tracks aswell and both fun, chalk outlines live and How to be me live next maybe/?
He is incredible....thanks
Its the touch of Django Reinhardt for me 🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉
THANK YOU - loved your finetuned and profound reaction...☺️👌🏼
I love everything Ren does!!
Good reaction. Animal Flow acoustic version would also be a good one for you to react to.
This was a great reaction! I'm so impressed by how Ren can rap and play at the same time. He is a true genius!
Thanks. Great reaction. 🎉
Love this song! Thanks for the reaction
Love the Bad Brains callout. He hasnt said as much (BB specifically), but he has said he's a fan of older punk rock. Like the BB, of course, along with The Clash or Pistols.
Yeah man, I love finding reactors that hear what I hear when it comes to Ren. So glad you rewatched the solo part too. You did miss a key reference however, Dr. Dre was paid homage to as well. All good though, I didn’t catch it first listen either. I subbed. Cheers!
You missed the Dr Dre call back!!
Great reaction!! Cheers!!
Love it is a masterpiece
❤❤
Great reaction loved it
I think you would love the tale of Jenny and Screech trilogy, if you haven’t reacted to it yet :)
Only just found this reaction and summary, your insight is very interesting!!
Fun content, enjoyed!
❤❤❤❤❤
B# whaaatt!!
Is it just me that hears Django Reinhardt's influence in Ren's play on this track?
In another song, The Hunger, Ren makes a reference to Django Reinhardt, who I think would have smiled at Ren's solo.
Need to head to Oxfam for vintage drip.
The quality of your camera is good enough to show how dirty your guitar is. Kind of a doubled sword.
Haha a dirty guitar is a loved guitar. A musician’s instruments are like diaries telling their story
This is good.
Ren never had guitar lessons he taught himself using Jimi Hendrix videos slowed down
I love this guy's reactions to Ren. But this is the problem with people who try to play their own instruments at the same time. They miss the narrative. If you're listening to every word then it's impossible to miss that Violet is the mother of Jenny and Screech. And then to make the connection that they were separated at birth and the Tragedy or Miracle is that they all died on the same streets. Yes Screech killed his sister with traits of his violent father Stevie & Jenny was as quiet as her mother, just minding her own business. Goin home to sleep.
You'd think it were impossible to miss, but some, understandably, missed it due to being distracted by the pure artistry of it all. People are different.
Rather: "Out in the street they call it merther". Merther :"West Indian Denotes the sensations produced by smoking marijuana while listening to dub reggae. The merging and distortion of sense impressions that occurs during cannibonoid trance." (Urban dictionary) = play on words: merther/murder/murderer
I thought that was done by Damien Marley
Damien did, but he got it from Ini Kamoze
Ren's is giving homage in his new opening to Ina Kamoze (In the streets they call it MURDER), Damian Marley only covered it, but right after that Ren plays the same guitar riff of Barrington Levy's "Murderer" scatting and all before going into his own song ..
Thanks for the information appreciate it
Try to watch John asis sir he's crazy acoustic guitarist specially on his rage against the machin killing in the name cover
❤❤
