    170 feet of treated wood is $6000 and Vinyl is $9400. Cedar is $7200. Bit of a bigger jump between then you're saying. I think you're over pricing wooden fencing to make the difference look smaller. This is in Indiana. Quote was done today 7/15/23 from Lowes of all people. Installed. This dudes a salesman.

    Well done. I work with SWi Fence of Florida in St. Augustine, FL. Glad to see your comparison included a nice cap and rail finish, stain, and steel posts. These upgrades add to the life expectancy of a wood fence and make for a great comparison, even though a basic wood stockade fence with wood posts and no stain would be significantly less expensive for the initial start up. The steel posts will make the re-investment those 10-15 yrs later less as well, since the posts will not have to be replaced.

      Forgot to mention another significant upgrade to the wood - cedar lumber. In most parts of the country, cedar is considerably more costly than its pine counterpart.

    Spent over $16,000 on 300 feet and 3 gates of all white 6 foot privacy fence less then a year ago, the company has done thousands like mine many all around me. Mine is the problem child, graciously hes been back twice to reinstall wind blown panels, so now its my problem, the mower shoots rock through like bullets, my kids junp over it and keep knocking the top rails off. And now the neighbor hates the reflections on sunny days he can't watch his TV. The old cedar fence looked so much more appropriate with my wifes gorgeous gardens, all I needed to do was replace the posts. Would never recommend plastic fence to anyone, looks way to cheep in a nice looking yard...

    So locally, 250 linear feet of cedar fencing current price is $7300 installed and sealed. Thats with inflated lumber prices....

    You don’t need to stain it that often. Waste of money! My father and I built a wood fence back in 1974 and its still perfectly fine!

    • @KMS5280
      @KMS5280 2 роки тому +8

      No wood fence is “perfectly fine” after 50 years without regular maintenance and upkeep, including weatherproofing (sealer or stain). Without that after 50 years it couldn’t possibly be “perfectly fine” unless your definition of perfectly fine is ridiculously low.

    That wood fence looks way better and if stained or painted, I bet would age better. Vinyl looks clean and white but looks and feels cheap and cheesy to be honest.

      Estimates are in, $4,219 for wood (pine) and $4,800 for vinyl, 165 linear feet one gate, 6ft privacy fence. Not bad, IMO.

      Where are you located? The prices I'm getting that include installation are outrageously high. I just need about 120 linear feet and the prices are ~$18,000.00. Plain white vinyl fence, though not from a big box store.

    As a landscaping guy, I can wholeheartedly say that vinyl fencing is trash and not worth a dime. A mower or a string trimmer can shoot a rock through it like it's paper, a good solid smack on a panel will break something or make it fall down completely, a string trimmer revved too high will shred right into it if grass is up against it. Hell, a good gust of wind will mess up a vinyl fence. Sometimes they will crack and break if you just look at them wrong. Also they stain very easily if grass clippings or mud hit them, unlike a wood fence that rarely requires cleaning no matter what. ALSO you can get away with 8 feet in between wooden fence posts, while vinyl is usually 6 feet, meaning more post holes and more broken sprinkler lines. I'll never understand why vinyl fencing even exists.

      If you're doing it yourself (which you should if you're not wealthy), do a wood fence. A wooden fence is way more simple and approachable for a DIY install, not to mention cheaper, sturdier, and longer lasting. Stay away from vinyl at all costs.

    thank you for this video. i dont like wood fence cause it turns gray eventually and i dont like vinyl cause it gets dirty and sways in the wind. i LOVE iron fence.
    oh, can i use that fake wood material that they use to build porches?

    • @CascadeFenceandDeck
      @CascadeFenceandDeck  3 роки тому +1

      Yes, it's possible to build fences using composite or PVC material. There are products designed specifically for this purpose, but you can also re-purpose deck boards for your fence. We've built several privacy fences using Deckorators decking and they look fantastic!

    Vinyl fencing is significantly more expensive than cedar, not just $435

    • @CascadeFenceandDeck
      @CascadeFenceandDeck  3 роки тому +5

      The numbers we used in this scenario are real prices for an example project. Our vinyl fence price is roughly 4% more than wood when compared per project. However, prices vary between regions and companies, so there is not one single cost difference between cedar and vinyl. Thanks for commenting!

      Wood prices right now are so high that gap is closing up. Imo

      Price of wood is extremely high right now. Historically you are correct not with this current market.

    • @CascadeFenceandDeck
      @CascadeFenceandDeck  3 роки тому +1

      @@Swagalious689 These prices were from February 2021. At the time, our prices on wood projects were between 5% and 15% higher than in 2020. In our experience, even with normal wood prices, cedar fencing is more expensive than vinyl when you take maintenance costs into account. This isn't a universal truth though, and your mileage may vary.

    How does the vinyl fence hold up in the cold. Snow and freezing??

    • @CascadeFenceandDeck
      @CascadeFenceandDeck  3 роки тому +1

      Vinyl naturally expands in higher temperatures and contracts in lower temps. At extremely low temperatures it will become more brittle, and with enough force will crack. It's not significantly more fragile than during warm weather though; either way, if your vinyl fence receives enough impact it will break. Snow is only a problem if allowed to build up enough for the snow load (weight) to be a problem. In the Pacific Northwest where we install fences we don't have any vinyl fence issues related to snow or low temps.
