- A realistic approach to what would probably happen in a post-apocalyptic world. This film leaves you wondering if there is any hope to be had unless you're carrying the fire 😉.
Director: John Hillcoat
Stars: Viggo Martensen, Kodi Smit-McPhee, Charlize Theron

Gee, nobody ever reviews this and it's one of my favorites. Nick Cave did the soundtrack.
I was going to say Nick Cave and Warren Ellis did an amazing job with this soundtrack. It's haunting and beautiful.
I know!! I almost had a heart attack finally finding a reaction to this movie. I love it too! Have for years. It should be popular but no one knows about it!! I’m so glad she made a video!!
no kidding I like this film because it has a great story but also because its how the apocalypse will really be, its not going to be like mad max like people seem to think
@@millennium677 Without a doubt it's the most plausible and accurate vision of what things would really be like.
I loved this movie as a person who’s dealt with depression and anxiety this movie resonated with me on a deep level. I cried so much after watching it man sometimes I feel like the boy staring at the ocean with his father, but this movie reminded me to keep going no matter what because love always prevails.
Scariest thing about this movie, is that something like this is not far from happening.
3 days without food and here we are
i love when you said " discovered about 10 minutes ago...." looool
Same lol
Like when she discovered "Brothers". That was my favorite reaction
Thank you so much for reacting to this! Underrated movie. For me it feels like one of the most realistic post-apocalyptic movies.
A completely different type of road trip Viggo Mortensen can be found in, and an utterly beautiful film, is Captain Fantastic. Eastern Promises and A History of Violence, two other incredible performances/films of his.
Hidalgo my fav!
Thought you were about to say LOTR but yea that one’s good too haha
Fantastic reaction, it’s NOT stupid to imagine yourself in a similar situation 👊🏽
Found the DVD in a charity shop yesterday and just watched the movie last night. It's a wonderfully sad and brilliant movie. Glad to find someone else reacting to it!
I saw this movie once when I was in college, and then I became a dad and I could never stomach watching it again.
i have totally forgot about this movie. I remember seeing this with my dad as a kid. I was all shook up. Nice reaction
Your dad didn't stop it?
@@ambience273 When I was a kid my dad and I would watch horror movies and then he'd show me all the behind the scenes documentaries afterwards. Usually he watched the movies beforehand so he knew there wasnt any graphic sex stuff. I feel like I learned how to distinguish fiction from reality very well because of it. The downside was that I would never find horror movies scary for the rest of my life lol. Movies like this still tear my damn soul out though.
If it’s any consolation, even nuclear war wouldn’t leave the world this distraught. I believe it isn’t ever mentioned specifically in the book or the movie but the idea of earthquakes constantly happening years after leads me to believe it was something hitting earth or something natural exploding the crust. Likely asteroids I’d assume. So as you said we may be closer to the end than we realize, I am at least hopeful civilization will survive even if a shadow of itself. Because even if every city in the world was nuked there would be habitable places still, albeit not exactly lush and full of life but not entirely barren. As they said in Jurassic park, life finds a way, same with humanity. We’re a bit too persistent if anything.
In the book there is a part when the man and boy come across and spot two men walking with a pregnant woman. Andy out two later they find an abandoned campsite from them and the deceased newborn baby is on a spit over the fire
I swore to never watch this movie again because I just couldn't handle it... I wasn't that ready
When ever im feeling down or depressed i come watch a movie with amy and it cheers me rite up 😆 🤪
Idk man this movie is bleak and depressing idk if anything can be cheery about it
@@SantaClaus-kk8zr Haha I think he's being sarcastic cos he knows the content here can get pretty depressing 🤣😂
haha more "cheery" content on the way Xx🤣😁
It's cathartic. When ever I'm down and depressed, I watch this film or listen to the Cormac Macarthy audiobook. No matter how shit my life is, its never as bad as The Road. Cry tears, hug your loved ones, have a beer, it's going to be okay.
I read the book in one sitting. I literally could not put it down. This is a very powerful movie and I'm pausing extremely early in your reaction because of the confusion you expressed when the father notes there are 2 bullets left. I'm sure you eventually realized why one might want to self delete should things in the real world start to echo the story in the book. It would be a better fate than being captured by cannibalistic marauders.
13:48 well... technically that's incorrect ;) I love the content keep it up!!
This is one of the saddest films with a positive message I've ever seen
Watched this last week. One of my favourite actors. He's also brilliant in GREEN BOOK ♥️
I did a reaction to Green Book! I've been trying to get it through copyright for awhile now, I hope I can get it back out because it really was a great film.
Viggo mortensen,
Aragorn and king of gondor.. ❤
I was depressed in 2009 to read this book from Cormac McCarty. But now i think it is a path to do it better. Only to put your head in the sand brings you to what... At the same time i was at the university, studiying about humanity visiting Buchenwald and Auschwitz. By all depression there is HOPE . Immanuel Kant an old philosoph had four questions. What can I know? What I ought to do? What I may hope for? What is man or humanity? My answer is to care for myself and any sort of beeings.
"if he is not the word of God, then God never spoke. "
If the movie was anything close to the book I think they wouldn’t release it. Great movie. The book is even more of a masterpiece.
This movie was one of the inspirations for the last of us games
FINALLY SOMEONE DOES MY FAVOURITE FILM HOLY MOLY ❤ instant subb for that
That kid plays Nightcrawler in X-Men Apocalypse and he's great in that western with Benedict Cumberbatch and Jesse Plemons/Kirsten Dunst Netflix film "Power of The Dog"
"You don't need to... You don't need to see..."
read the book its way more devastating
I would recommend the audiobook. The movie is a really good adaptation don't get me wrong.
great movie you picked. kinda too dark but also realistic on those conditions.
You gotta watch The Wailing also, its a mindfuck (watch the alternate ending)
Great job on this reaction, beautiful! ❤
Thank you!! 😊
great vid wish more people would watch this movie
I saw this in theaters when it came out. It's not a bad film but it's so endlessly downbeat that it began to feel like a bit of a chore to sit through.
It has no redemptive spirit. Kinda nihilistic. I wish it had a more hopeful element
@@ezemdianosike5277it’s the end of the world 🌎. What do you expect?
the book this is based off is even worse. they toned down so much of what happens. you read it and wonder what's the point in living in this nightmare of a world.
Oh Hell No ! Nope Not watching this a 2nd time ever ! 😬
I thought it was brilliant, especially for Viggo Mortensen's performance, but I don't think I can even sit through a reaction to it.
Hello from Moscow, this is one of my fav movies, glad u watched it. Love ur reactions, with best regards from Russia ❤
Awesome! Thank you!
Great story about a father son relationship, although, based in hell
First time watchi- Oh......Oh my sweet summer child....Well, you're gonna have a good time with this one. Based on my favorite novel ever, but this is one GRIM sonofabitch.
Alot of people are missing their thumbs because they ate them out of starvation.
The movie is great but very mundane and dark… I believed it peaked my interest when I was like 18 or 19 I watched even when I was younger the movie fascinated me, I later find out it was a book! 📕
The cannibals in the basement will always get me. I still remember that scene.
The most horrifying scene in a movie
I've finished watching.
I really hate bad endings.everyone must have the same opinion that's why this film is a failure, because there is no good ending.
This has the only good ending that would be possible... there is a dog.
Is it a bad ending? Yeah the dad died but the kid found a new family that can protect him. I wouldnt call it good ending either, something in the middle.
It’s the best ending it could have I mean what else did you expect.
+1 ..'cause no Reactors dare to...
Film is WAY2MUCH but we’ll made.
Starting the movie but I'm already distracted by the hot emo chick reacting to it. Will try to stay focused.
If you like this movie. Read the book it's really good. One of my favorite books
From what I remember it was a decent adaptation.
@@sundalangur3250 it really was. Captured the book perfectly
Watch Chained next
