The hardest working man on UA-cam... Keep them coming
That is so very awesome of you to say! I appreciate the support!
Your 1000000000000000% right, Joe is the hardest working man, he's the working man for us.
Jay Patel I’m grateful I get to do this for all of you!
One of the few I "hit the bell" for!
Ben Russell that really means a lot!
Toyota needs to really advertise that this comes with a manual transmission so they can sell more.
I totally agree with you!
They already do
But I heard no one buys manual
I just ordered my 2020 XSE manuel, I have a three months wait here in Canada, because no one take the manuel!
@@verynick Actually, that's ALL I buy. I will never take an automatic even if it were to be cheaper.
I just bought my daughter one of these last week and your review helped make the decision. Thank you for having some of the best car reviews on UA-cam.
Once my engine tanks, im going to buy this car, with manual of course
I bought the xse in black. The car has exceeded my expectations. I had the extra spoiler added to it.
I wouldn't call it a "hot hatch", but "warm hatch" is more correct. I wouldn't doubt that it's fun to drive though. 😊
I like the way you think David!
This is great content. You review all my favorite cars. I really like what Toyota has done here by making their reliable, efficient commuter funner to drive.
Thanks for saying that! It really means a lot!
Pulling the trigger to buy one of these. So glad to see your reviews on a variety of cars from this to the others in the segment from Honda, VW, etc. This Toyota checked all the boxes for me, and my test drive sealed the deal. Thanks for the reviews. They helped me narrow down my choices and find the exact car I wanted.
It’s a great car. Feels wonderful in the city and the clutch is very effortless. I have a 911 and this is a great second car or daily driver. Highly recommend!
I love this car. Iam considering buying one just like this as a daily driver. Thanks brother. God bless you.
I am. so glad that you liked it my friend!
Joe, you seem to have GREAT skills in what you base your youtube channel around, keep it up- congrats!
Nice little commuter vehicle that's fun & low operational expense. It's stylish with nice wheels. Considering it's a XSE, I would have like the option of a tinted glass moon-roof similar to what my 2016 Scion Tc had.
Joe and the crew putting in some work! What is that? Three reviews in one day? Who else does that? I can’t think of anyone.
Just order my Raiti’s ride T-shirt. Your the best.
I think you're right great beginner car for someone who wants something a little sporty
kg the great one great minds think a like!
@@RaitisRides thanks
Love to see cars like this Raiti
For years, I've been wanting to learn how to drive a manual. I'm 34 years old, and I just don't feel like waiting around anymore. I'm at a point where I can easily afford a second car. This video just sold me on taking that step to buy the Corolla Hatchback. So happy that the car is set up so that it's easy to learn a manual on!
It will be a piece of cake!
You will be amazed at how much more fun it is to drive when it’s a good manual.
@@subvet3668 Yeah, I'm really looking forward to learning to drive a manual! I plan on buying a manual Corolla sometime next year. I don't believe in financing cars, so I need a little bit of time to save up the cash. I actually live next door to a Walgreens store. So, when they close for the night, I can practice in their parking lot before I attempt to drive in the street. Also, I'll never sell my current car. So, if it takes me a long time to master driving stick, that's okay, I can take my time.
hamsterama, I’ll tell ya what, I bought my first manual car and the salesman had to tell me what to do. It took 5 minutes before the basics were down well and by the next day it was as natural as breathing. Modern cars with their lighter clutches and smoother gearboxes make it even easier. With Toyota’s IMT auto rev matching, it’s probably the easiest and smoothest ever produced, nearly stall proof. That IMT function will make you look like an old Pro Hero within a day if not sooner. I’m seriously considering getting one for a daily driver next year. Another comforting thought about this car is it uses Dual injection which is more reliable than the direct injection engines used by so many others. It doesn’t get the carbon buildup problems. This car will probably be good for 300k miles easy.
@@subvet3668 The last time I tried to drive stick was over ten years ago. It was on my parents' 1990 Plymouth Voyager. I kept stalling it out. My parents forced me to give up because they were afraid I would burn up the clutch (and I don't blame them lol). I couldn't get it to not stall. That's why I'm excited about Toyota's IMT. That makes stalling a non-issue. The rev match feature is also pretty awesome. My dad offered to go with me to test drive the car and to give me lessons, so if I have any trouble, at least he can help me out. Oh, and I'm with you on favoring Toyota's dual injection engines. The direct injection and carb issues is what's scaring me away from Honda.
The exterior and interior color look fantastic!
I really think they hit the nail on the head!
I love this car, thanks for the video!!
Nice little roomy hatchback! Keep up the good work Joe!
👍🏻👍🏻🇺🇸
I am so glad that you liked this one Larry! Thanks for helping me stay motivated!
I have a 2009 matrix with manual transmission. But now it's time to upgrade to this beauty.
Man this would be my car if it had a little more power, awesome review Joe!
Thanks for sharing your input and perspective on this one! I appreciate you watching!
Your videos are great joe! Just subbed!
I really appreciate you saying that! Thank you for being part of the Raiti's Rides family!
Great car, an actual surprise with the 6 speed
Yes sir!
awesome review as usual !! 👍
That is the only “hot” hatch I can afford 😂 lol
Jack Lin it’s a nice one though!😎👍🏻
Dude, seriously check out a fiesta ST with recaro seats. They are very affordable, especially slightly used. You will not be disappointed.
Robbie Rayburn
I cant trust Ford with reliability.
Very nice car, I'm not a big fan of the Corolla but its peppy looking and that manual is great. More of a Camry fan. Especially the XSE V6 trim. Thanks Joe.
Thanks for letting me share this one with you!
Motortrend has the manual at 7.5 and the cvt at 8.5. So the manual at least is pretty close to the Mazda 3. Great review. I’m definitely considering it for a daily driver, it’s just so well equipped with some good “usable fun” Just waiting to see the 2020 developments first for this and Honda. Like the flat floor with seats down.
Thanks for sharing your input and perspective on this one! I appreciate you watching!
Got mine in September 2018 and I love it. 😊 Awesome daily driver..with the manual transmission of course.
Now only watch your commentary on youtube although still trying to raise some money to buy a car(just graduated from college). can feel your passion during narration.
Thanks Jackson for saying that! You can do it !
Thank you for doing a review on my car I own a 2019 Corolla hatchback xse model but mine is bronze hopefully Toyota will make TRD turbo kits soon for it but I like this channel alot best one on UA-cam so far I found hopefully soon I'll order a shirt I like the logo.
You are so very welcome Jacob! I am so glad that you are liking yours! I would love to see a TRD version.
My brother had the ‘78 Corolla Liftback, I had the sedan.
This video needs A LOT more views..
Great review Joe! I've been kind of waiting to see if you would do the Corolla Hatchback. I started my car search off considering this car first, then started looking at the Camry SE, but found a great deal on the Honda Accord Sport 2.0T, so went with that. I love that car! I'm glad you reviewed the manual, but I would'velike to get your feedback on the automatic for the Corolla Hatchback. It's a CVT transmission, but first gear is an actual real gear, then goes to CVT.
I am so glad that I could share this one with you! I think you can't go wrong with either car!
Very nice for small car. I like how it just rolls off the clutch. Little smulf car. People who has trouble on up hill this going be a lot of help for them.
💯amazing with clutch💯
👍💯video💯👍
Thanks Jin for letting me share this one with you! I love the "little smurf" car comment!
The white interior is very nice. But to maintain it clean and white. Is gonna be difficult. Hopefully no one used this trim as an uber car. Lol.
Very well done video. I'm still going with the RAV4 hybrid, but that does look like a nice affordable hatch.
Did you get it?
How is it?
Nice Toyota Joe!! Is it a subscribers car? I agree about zonking the fake exhaust tips. That car really needs a turbo version! Great job brother!!
HI Eric! Thanks for letting me share this one with you! It is actually a Toyota Press Fleet vehicle!
Just bought a 2019 Mazda3 hatchback. But this was my second choice. Just wish the top trim had a sunroof though.
Great review of the Corolla XSE hot hatch- a GR version may be coming soon rumour has it…looking to buy the 2022 version….your reviews are so thorough everything I would be looking at….I want the 6 speed manual those are becoming an endangered species sadly hard to find in the market these days…no demand I guess. Anyways great reviews of cars…keep up the excellent work in future reviews especially when the GR version comes out!….thanks I always enjoy your videos!
Joe, although a GREAT lookin' ride, I can't attach "hot hatch" to this one, I have to ZONK the title, LOL😉 That said, my buddy Hectour and I were just talkin' about that it's too bad Toyota doesn't have a "hot" version of their inline 2.0L, their behind others like Hyundai and Honda here, they even have hot, perf versions of a 1.5 and 1.6's and ofcoarse a perf 2.0L.
I like the way you and Hector are thinking! I totally understand where you are coming from!
@@RaitisRides between the hatch and the new sedan, one or both of them should have a perf version, the XSE sedan looks amazing, not sure if you did one of those or not🤔
Toyota is making a Hot Corolla though. It will be based on the GR Yaris
*cough* the 80s and 90s would like a word with you. look up the numbers for the first and second gen CRX Si. How much power did the EK9 Integra Type R have?
How much power does a hot hatch need? Should we drop an LS1 into it from a 98 Trans Am? Maybe we could put a 13B-REW ...
Enjoy what you like, but for me a hot hatch is something that is fun to drive and doesn't look like it was slapped with an ugly stick ... CRXs, I-Marks, Scirrocos, etc. can all qualify to your subjective looks.
Great vid! Hard to argue with the fun factor and value of the new Corolla hatch with a stick. Would advise your camera guy to work on hiding your undisclosed location a bit harder ;). btw that's a nice part of town for filming!
A Toyota Corolla. Now with 18 inch wheels standard. Welcome to the brave new world.
That after thought infotainment screen though.
Hey Joe could you do a beginner manual video? You would be a great teacher. I'm particularly interested in downshifting. I can technically drive manual except instead of rev matching down I just slowly let the clutch out.
I will get that together for you!
@@RaitisRides wow that's awesome thanks! If you can talk about the speed you let out the clutch and maybe go through some scenarios such as slowing down for traffic lights etc that would be great.
I'm a Mazda 3 hatch owner and I love this Toyota.
because you are a Japanese.lol
Manual transmissions make driving so much more entertaining no matter what you are driving.
I totally agree!
Eh it gets annoying real fast
Between this and the Civic hatch which would you prefer?
In some European countries it comes with a new 2.0 Hybrid ( 180 HP ), 0-100Km/h in 8 seconds. But we don't have that nice looking blue over here. :'( Emissions are becoming more and more important here in Europe, it has no rivals here with 180HP and CO2: 89 g/km, no German car can match those numbers...
I’m looking into buying this for my mom because she very humble and she likes small cars, lower to the ground, good gas mileage and I’m paying the payments
Wish there would be a performance version.
The start up. All I heard were crickets and worms crawling.
amazing review! one question- will the 2020 corolla hatch come with a sunroof on any of the trims? seriously considering a hatch, but am slightly put off but the sunroof's unavailability.
Thanks for the compliment! I will totally find out for you!
I can't decide if I want this or a 2020 Civic SI sedan manual
Fun fact... the Corolla hatchbacks are manufactured in Japan.
So what?
What is different when it is manufactured in Japan?.lol
zpdlvmxkdns Over 70% of Toyota’s US market cars are from their US factories, including the Corolla sedan. Just a fun fact, nothing more. Sorry the mentioning of Japan triggered you.
Looks better than that busy over styled Civic Hatchback
I'm a huge fan of most Honda products and own the new Accord, but I agree with you 100%. I do not like the way the Civic Hatchback looks. The civic coupe and sedan look better. I dont mind the way the Civic Type R looks only because it's a type R and just has over the top styling, so it works on that particular car.
Finally see someone review this thing. I drove one in CVT actually surprised me since i own a CVT and I hate it. This one wasnt too bad. I cant wait to get my hands on the 6 speed though i bet thats the golden one.
Love your reviews man! I'd absolutely love a review on the Toyota Camry Hybrid LE. The thing gets 50 MPG and I'm wondering if it's fun to drive or not and how the base trim is since the other trims are a little too expensive for me.
Thanks for the awesome support! As soon as I get my hands on a Corolla Hybrid I will be bringing it to you!
@@RaitisRides Thank you so much! But please make it a Camry Hybrid LE trim ;) the Corolla hybrid is way too slow for me.
I like the yellow one with manual trans
Thumbs up Raiti..can you do a Hyundai palisade vid..wife just traded in her 4 runner for this vehicle..I wanted the Telluride but she likes the palisade.
Toyota already has 2 rwd sport coupes with the 86 and higher end Supra. They need a proper hot hatch now to fill the line up and this new Corolla is a perfect starting stop. Bring back the XRS line and give this car a bump to 200hp or more.
I totally agree with you!
There seem to be a space for a turbo at the back closer to the firewall at 5:52
I wonder if Toyota could have made a Turbo variant of this car.
Fingers cross they do!
we can modify it....
The turbo option is available in Japan only
They probably made it open for modifications which is good
Because this car is great to drive also bro.
Very good point Jeremiah!
I had a type r before I got this car. And I can honestly say I like the Toyota hatch more. And it costs much less then the type r. With my type r. I had 60,000 km on it when I sold it. And I was on the third set of tires. The Corolla hatch I have almost 40k on and it’s on the original Yokohama tires.
U can get Trd upgrade here in Canada exaust as well but not cat back they need to do a new over haul on this in the near future
Can't wait for the GR turbo version of this vehicle! Toyota really stepping it up in the fun segment in US now that Ford has removed the ST hatchs from here.
I love the color on this Corolla. I don’t like how they just place the IPad on the dash. Not sure 🤔 I like the partial leather/cloth seats.
The only minus for me is the fake exhaust tips. If it had a similar setup as the Mazda 3 Hatchback with the dual exhaust this would be the complete package 😎
I totally agree with you!
a turqoise car in 2020- about damn time!!!
AGREED!
16.7@ 115mph 😮
Could you do a review of the highest trim level legacy?
How would you compare this to the Veloster?
bluenerve it would be very comparable.
Some reviews say the back seats are t8ght but having sat in one, I (183cm) could sit myself comfortably behind the driver (190cm).
Ae86 and ae82 FTW!
AGREED!
heck, I’ll even take the 2.5L in this thing 🤪
In Europe we have only 1.2L engine :(
I'm waiting on the hybrid version for this hot hatch... got any inside information on when toyota will provide for us consumers?
We will see how it pans out.
Sounds like lots of road noise. I notice the mic sound getting muffled.
It thought it was a good review.
I have just bought the Australian equivalent which I will get in two weeks.
It is the Corolla ZR and is basically the same spec with the same wheels and leather seats.
Obviously this is right hand drive too.
I do find some odd differences though and I cant work out why they are mot the same.
The Aussie models do not have apple car play or android.
The ZR only comes with the direct CVT and only the base model has a 6 speed as standard.
The Aussie ZR does have rear air conditioning vents and rear USB.
Cant work out why all the countries do not have similar featues.
Most reviews are critical of two areas,
Rear seat space and trunk space.
Lets be honest, you don't buy a small car for 4 adults as you would need a larger vehicle.
The trunk isnt big but that is really not an important feature as the car is for my wife and I.
Does the car look great and sporty??? Well I think so butt that is just subjective so others will think differently.
It is certainly not hot like a golf gti or a golf R but that also doesn't matter to me?
Sporty cars are ok but on a public road you can't really use them .
Toyota is relaible and cheap to service and that is important to me.
It certainly doesnt look dull.
Buying any car is a compromise and for me the Corolla is the best compromise.
I liked the idea of a 1.6 turbo for low down torque but the golf and Kia Cerato GT are costly to service.
My son,has a Golf R and is super quick, apart from getting up to the speed limit a lot quicker it really is a waste unless you like speeding tickets.
Thaks for yoru great input and perspective! Congrats on your new car!
@@RaitisRides thanks
Just corrected a multitude of typos.
All it needs a small turbo and I would of consider buying it .
Honestly wish it came with a panoramic sunroof or a normal sunroof
That is . very good point.
I'm back on the Podium. LOL Save the Wave.
I always believed in you Peter!
I wish you got the one with the spoiler
So do I!
I Love the Short You Got.
How can I Order One?
is that watergrass? i feel like ive seen the area where you parked the car in the intro on my delivery routes lol looks like wesley chapel/zephyhills area
It's Wesley Chapel! Great eyes!
@@RaitisRides lol I thought so, I take my lunch in the parts of the road where you parked the car in the intro. So if you ever see a big Amazon prime Mercedes sprinter parked in one of those areas it's most likely me lol.
Wish the gearing was just a little shorter. It seems like the ratios for 4, 5 and 6 are all kind of overdrive. Probably done for fuel economy. Though to be fair I guess that getting to 60 in second gear is probably why this car with the manual gets a 7.5 second time.
I was almost set on buying this one but when i found out how slow it was. Im hesitating now. 60 in 8.7 secs? My 2012 ford focus sedan can do that....
I feel your pain!
The manual is 7.5 which is very close to the Mazda 3. The CVT version is slower at 8.5. This is from MotorTrend
@@subvet3668 it ranges from 7 to 7.5, the cvt does slow it down a lot, the manual will easily chirp the tires all day
Well its not a sportscar
The corolla hatch is a better looking car than the Civic now. If they made it fast it takes over.
It will be much better if they had sunroof and 3 different view from the back Camara like the honda civic
Mistake for Toyota to market as a hot hatch. It's the latest Matrix, and that's a good thing. The TNGA platform and new 2.0 Dynamic Force engine improves Performance and Milage without scarifying durability thanks to NA and combo port+direct injection. I test drove one. Like it.
- I wish reviewers tested the CVT more. That's the one I'm considering.
- Fake dual exhausts are awful. Thinking about vinyl wrapping the whole lower bar to cover both.
- Considering Corolla Hatchback SE or Camry LE. Corolla 2-speed CVT and Camry AT 8 having roll out issues. Waiting until they get their respective transmission issues sorted.
Thanks for sharing your input and perspective on this one! I appreciate you watching!
Stay tuned I have a CVT review coming!
The entire painted part with the fake exhaust tips just comes off
I got the SE last week. Corners well. Very smooth, stable ride. Getting outstanding milage.
I want one I have the 2002 Corolla
You will love this one!
Wow that thing is going to be hard to keep clean. Wish they'd go straight up "sport" instead of "sporty". Another 50 HP and this thing would be incredible.
Did.. did I just hear an exhaust pipe from a stock modern Corolla?
Good reveiw the car is build very well but not a performance car its ashame
I totally know where you are coming from!
I kinda want it... even though it's only a 3hp gain 😥😥😥
LMAO!
Where it came from, UK or US Mississippi plant? I'd like to know. Thank you.
Cheng Brewer made in Japan
It's a good hatch for young people or people just learning to drive a stick. Or if you want power you can use on the street it's all ya need unless you wanna race buy the velosta but Toyota looks better so get a 2.4 turbo with 320 horse and you'll have a winner Toyota
Same thing with the SE hatchback.... just different titles 😄
Wait.. this have blindspot monitor? How come other reviews only have it in cvt
Yes it does! They are hard to come by Donald.
Raiti's Rides cool! I think im all set on deciding my first car thanks to you!
toyota needs a AWD turbo 4 banger again. to replace the EVO. mistubishi better bring the EVO back.
Good job on grinding the videos out, maybe you can start a series about engine design and history etc. Also some doritos in a Pringles can content 👍
faekz thanks for the compliment! That is a really great idea!
It won't happen cause toyota hasn't put any good performance vehicles in years. Even the TRD isn't making anything nice with a lot of power. Only thing they have is the supra which is a fail in my pov and they had a part in the supra
All wheel drive is available in japan only at the moment 😥
They need to make a hot hatch Corolla with like 250-350 hp and call it the Corolla 86
It is the crossroad between a Miata and a Golf
