@@Deschain-um7jz I have a 2018 civic E-XT. Even though the 0-60 is faster, the excel from stop is pitiful. I'm thinking of trading in for the auto with paddle shifters. It's got an actual 1st gear.
Love how you go under the car and comment on actual build quality like stamped steel and welding... Can't think of any other reviewers that do that! Thumbs up!
I've just come across this channel. This is by far the best auto review channel I've ever seen (and I'm suscribed to a lot of them). Who else reviews the underbody of a car, really? Liked and subscribed! Keep up the good work.
Throttle House is awesome, but their reviews never focus on basic transportation or folks with kids, they focus on performance aspects. This gent has more range, if you will, then most of the younger critics (such as straight pipes).
Just bought one of these about a month ago with all the same options. Great review. The fake exhaust tips suck but that and the infotainment are really the only things I would change about this car. Not everyone needs a ton of horsepower, gas mileage and reliability are super important. It flat out looks better than a lot of the competition, the interior is very upscale for its class, and driving slow cars fast is more fun anyways because you get to keep your license. Also, I'm glad you reviewed one without the spoiler because it looks better that way!
You are the only person on UA-cam that explains what a platform actually is, means and features, to make a car perform the way it does. You put it up onto a hoist and walk us through all of it. I've never seen anyone else on any other car channel do this before for almost any and every vehicle you review. Thank you 'Mr. Goose' for doing this. Now I know why I subbed to your channel! Although sometimes glib in your delivery, you're honest in your reviews. Thank you. Keep up the great work with your channel. Love your back story. Explains how your channel got here. You need more viewers and perhaps a more consistent segment production like this one.
I have a feeling that Toyota's just building great platforms such as this Corolla, the 86/BRZ/FRS, and the upcoming Supra, and is leaving it to the community to create whatever they want. The 86/BRZ/FRS is a prime example of that
@@joshtradamus3921... The yaris grmn is ok, but I want to haul more stuff than a few bags of chips so a grmn corolla hatch would be great and that would set off fantastic hot hatch war among 4-5 brands...
This was the most thorough, reasonable, and knowledgeable review I've seen of the new Corolla Hatchback. The observations regarding the CVT, with a demonstration of how quickly it shifts ratios using a closeup of the tach, were especially appreciated, along with the discussion of its "combined injection," and the tour of the well-protected underside areas. 'Lots of very useful additional impressions, as well, and nice video production quality.
@andrew21386 depends on your tires. i have the xse tires and they arent the quietest, but my michelin x-ice 3s for winter make the cabin silent edit: the XSE tires look and feel amazing, although the arent the quietest
The new trend of popout oriented nav screens has nothing to do with being cheap and everything to do with being driver centric. You want to be able to see the display at a glance for navigation. By mounting the display high you no longer have to shift your eyes off the horizon to read the screen. You just quickly scan from left to right to get the information you need. Molding the nav screen into the dash produces silly sloped angles with lots of glare that require you to practically lean your head to the side sometimes if the steering wheel is obstructing it. I love the popup nav screens that are right up in my sight line.
Without any doubt, your reviews are the most thorough. The inside and outside, under the hood and even under the body, no one else lifts it up on a jack to critique the underlying structure.
The Goose man out here killing it tbh! I cant stop watching all his reviews. Then bam! A new one comes out for a car I want, the universe is aligned...
Thank you for this review, I really appreciate you going over what really matters in a vehicle, like it’s engine and transmission and drivetrain, how it’s all made and put together. I love how simple and reliable the engine is, easy to work on. I seriously love this car, I adore the fact it’s a hatchback. It’s everything I could possibly want in a vehicle, it has all the technology I’ll ever need without being overly complicated or on reliable in the future. I plan on getting an XSE in silver with the automatic because the better mpg, tho the manual version looks really fun. I’ll keep this car forever. And I know it’d last over 200,000+ miles with regular maintenance no problem. I know I’ll get a lot of use out of a car like this. That’s what I look for in a vehicle.
12 skits The engine is not simple. The transmission is not either. Even the underbody is not simple. But Toyota has its shit together and thats why its not a Suzuki or Hyundai, because its as sophisticated and quiet as a Lexus.
"Sleepy time is over" This is what happens when Toyota makes a manual hatchback! Its a great looking car. I would not get the auto (cvt) but rather the manual. Rowing through the gears, while carrying your friends and family in the car, while having fun is the best.
@@alansmilealot that would be good. I wonder how well the rev matching works, some of my family don't know how to drive manual and I wish they could appreciate it. Oh well.
I just bought a 2019 XSE manual. I tested most of the competition and found the Corolla the best combination of interior and exterior design and execution, combined with sound mechanicals. In terms of reviews, yours and Alex Dykes’s were the most helpful. Thank you.
Nailed the looks without completely taking a crap on the design like the Civic, I can't even look at those things when I drive by them. I'm definitely impressed. I'm not a small car guy, being 250lbs, 6'1" doesn't help change my opinion either, I would always go for an SUV - but would definitely suggest this to someone buying a small car.
Personal opinion this car looks weird to me I prefer much more reserved designs like the GTI. I think the Civic SI and Sport aren't bad at all but the Type R definitely looks off.
@@Osprey1994 GTI looks by far the best, but VW generally makes great looking subdued designs. The Civic Hatch looks worst to me, followed closely by the Type R. But I know the Hondas are great cars in general, I prefer the looks of the 07-15' generations but they're not pretty either.
Another easy, logical, and sporty machine. this will be my sporty car for 10 years. Thank you for your review! I love that you put in your input in terms of long term ownership.
this is the second review I've watched from start to end without skipping ahead and realized in that moment of realization that a subscription was a must.
Finally a reviewer that Actually LOOKS at suspension components and talks about Engineering. I actually can see that the steering rack/tie rod ends are behind the tires. This reviewer speaks like he is a degreed engineer. This is WAY better than the reviewer who " giggles " going zero to 60 and that other reviewer who needs to see all the quirks and features.....This review...he filmed examples of the paddle shifters ...how they respond. Reviewer understands WHY port injection is helpful to clean the intake valves. I went ahead and subscribed to this channel. Keep up the good work !!!
YOOOO I just got this puppy a week ago (in the moon stone color :) )had a corolla 14 le prior to this and i have to say i LOVE this car. It drive so smoothly and has amazing control, compared to the other corolla, almost feels like a subaru with the handle. I’ve been driving with the paddle shifts to test the transmission and it shifts are pretty flawless and super fun to drive! i highly recommend to someone that wants a reliable/low maintenance vehicle that can also get up to down. GOOOD REVIEW
Dude , u know im listening to you review a Corrolla, and im still very interested in the whole vid!. That is the sign of a great reviewer...when u can make even a mundane car seem fascinating to listen to..
Love hearing your perspective like always, I really love cars that are built to do a job and they excel at that intended job. This is why I really liked that Hyundai/Kia duo cars like the Sorrento Elantra really were great but Toyota is just tried and true so the fact that Toyota is on that same level of quality with that cockroach like reliability, this might be the new No BS choice for compact cars. Thank you for this review -Kevin
It's been great to follow this channel from the beginning -- and I look forward to videos every week. There is one thing that I've noticed more in recent videos-- and that is the frequent use of the word 'extremely'. I feel that it loses its impact when overused. Just something to consider! Keep up the great work!
Maybe he never drove one. Though newer cars will drive faster and for the most part handles better(except certain cars). There's a positive on technology as well, though I hate the bulky pillars for visibility and hate "heavier" feeling cars.
Don't even need a new car. But goose is quality all day long and information packed it could be a podcast. Therfore I watch all of these. The video makes it even better. Always on point too 😁👍
Fantastic review, well researched and high production values. I'm glad you covered the underside as the multi-link suspension is one of the engineering highlights of this new Corolla. Top marks :)
Thank you for getting technical and in detail with all your cars. I promise you there are people who still care about an engine layout and the undercarriage design over the buttons you get on the infotainment.
But still doesn't have the luggage space of the 2000-2007 mode hatchback. They've got progressively worse since that one with more and more sloping rears.
As soon as i seen you in the shop lifting the car up i had to subscribe to your channel!! There are a lot of people reviewing cars on youtube but i havent seen any of them really do this!! great job man. Really informative and fun to watch videos. Thank you so much!
really liked this review. I bought this car almost a year ago, same color, but in the SE, which I went with because it had about 4 better MPG and because I preferred the black trim in the front to the chrome strip. Got it with the spoiler, preferred package, and then did some black aftermarket rims. Love it still. Your review is spot on, and I really appreciate the transmission explanation. I'm going to subscribe!
I was looking for a car for my daughter, so we took this out yesterday. I loved it. It was smooth and quick. I found it very comfortable and enough leg room even for me and I’m 6’ 6”
When I went to the Indy Auto Show this year, this was one of the few cars I actually left feeling very impressed with, especially after being able to actually sit in one and look-around it. This left me wondering about the.....real world-edness of this model, so I appreciate your review here.
Juljasmah it’s not a rebadged bmw, and so what if it has a bmw sourced engine that’s set up to Toyota’s standards of reliability and has tuning potential.
What I love about Toyota is they are perfecting the idea of get you from point A to point B as a priority. Sporty and entertainment and elegance next. You pay for a vehicle, not a moving couch with a smartphone.
Watching this again after now having driven both the manual and the CVT. WOW! Very impressed. I prefer the manual, but my kids have no desire to learn and it’s primarily for them, but also so I can have some fun. The CVT is the best I’ve ever used as well. I’ve owned everything from a 1986 Toyota Corolla with a 5-speed (first car that I learned on) to a Porsche with a manual and everything in between. This is a fun car to drive! It is the definition of “slow car that you can push 100%, stay within the speed limit, more or less, and have a blast!” I actually enjoy driving it over my Porsche Boxster that I sold. Haven’t purchased yet because I’m still trying to convince my kids to learn manual!!
I just drove this car yet again (The CVT SE model) after driving a bunch of other cars and putting some time between drives to make sure my initial impressions were accurate. I have to say, this is an incredibly fun car to drive and looks great! I’m still on the fence between the CVT and manual. As we’re going down to 2 cars, my wife wouldn’t be able to drive the manual (she’s not very good with an auto so no chance)....But, the CVT is a blast as well with the paddle and a physical first gear. I can’t get over how good this car is for the price point. I will say it again, this car is more fun to drive than my Porsche Boxster I had within legal speed limits. My Boxster felt blasé until you get well over the speed limit when it came alive...second gear and you’re already over legal limits. The Corolla lets you click through 10 gear ratios, and you can do them all while still not going over the speed limit!
@@petegalindez9961What did you end up getting and do you still enjoy it? Thinking about getting one now. CVT new probably for me rather than manual as a used purchase.
As usual SG is taking a different perspective than everyone on this new Corolla. He gets what’s going on in the details. This car is actually exciting. The level of technology and engineering is up there with Mazda Skyactiv and Toyota finally made an attractive Corolla! I mean wow it looks great. I’m glad you went deep into the CVT design. Not all CVT’s are created equal! I am going to test drive this car and compare to my 2018 Mazda3 which is awesome to drive.
It's the first time I watch such a presentation, with mechanical information and a bottom view. Really impressive. You give objective reasons to buy this car. Hope Toyota will thank you for this :-) Thanks from Paris.
great job as usual Mark.... would love to see your insight on the new Volester N brother.... i wont buy it until I hear your opinion about it.... thanks
Joseph Espinal I saw one in person but I didn’t get to drive it. I thought it looked good and very unique. My only gripes was the interior. I am surprised to see so much hard plastic everywhere and barely any soft touch materials. The tablet center information system looks cheap. The rear passengers are best suited for kids. But for the money it looks good 😊
The Veloster design refresh looks a lot better, and the N looks like it will be the best performance car at $30k mark.....dealer said they will be rare though, most dealers getting only 1. They need to make more...
We just drove the xse hatch. Wife is wanting a Honda fit, cvt unfortunately. I took her to drive this. We both really liked it. I didn't care for how lightweight the steering is. It handled well and was comfortable, which is what we want/need. She was still sold on it and it's her car but the deal breaker was the rear seating room. We have a 5 year old and her legs would be smushed into the back of the driver seat when I drive and I'm only 5'-10". Moving her side to side is not an ideal option. The rear hatch space is also very lacking for grocery day. Yes the rear seats fold down but again not ideal with a kid. If there was a smidge rear seat room we would have bought it. The frozen white paint looks amazing too. For someone without kids, looking for something that drives nice, handles well and you want good gas mileage and a little funky at the same time, go for it!
Yes Rear Seat Legroom Is Important And they Have Reduced it on this Model Which Really Pissed me Off I am Surprised not many others Have Picked up on this ,Including Mr Goose, Previous Model Has a Good Amount More Legroom and You can Tuck your Feet Under the Seats Really Easy Also, Otherwise Yes I Wound Have Bought This Car.
Exactly right on the children and foot space. A child in a booster or car seat - their feet are high up and poke into the back of the front seat - actually take up more space than an average adult because their feet aren't on the floor, under the front seat. I'm not tall either and I test drove it with my child and it just didn't work. That's a deal breaker and really too bad because I really liked it otherwise.
Nodak81 no, the fit completely out space this corolla, you can tell by just looking at the rear design on both cars, fit is basically a smaller family van, I'm 6 2 and I can sit comfortably behind my driver seat, also its a manual so I need more leg room in the front for clutch, the rear seats of fit not only folds down to create more trunk space, but also folds up to create more rear floor space
I've owned an XSE with the CVT since August and I love it. The interior is really nice - almost Lexus like (for the XSE). Additionally, there's full LED exterior lights (front and back), a decent sounding 8 speaker JBL sound system, dynamic navigation, wireless charging, etc. It's definitely worth a look if you're looking for a reliable daily driver.
Mark! It is great to see this back_to_original_style review. Not to bring down your new works (THEY ARE ALL GREAT). But, I LOVE your "original" style of approaching car review (all your older works). Somehow, it is refreshing and timeless! Thanks for all the efforts and time you are spending. Never sell out!
Just got mine last week, 2019 in white. I love driving that thing like actually make an excuse to go out so that I could drive it. I like the CVT and engine combo with 42 mpg hwy.
Picking up mine in a month, looks great, rides great, looks really classy inside. I'm planning to keep it for 10 years. It's a real game changer after replacing boring Auris.
As always, a very thorough and balanced review. Thanks for providing such an in depth analysis. This is probably now the best car out there for people that don’t really want to think about cars and/or really only care about going from Here to There. Once they put the Corolla sedan on the TNGA platform, the big T might have to ramp down Camry production even further as I think those will fly off dealer lots. I, for one, am pleased with the dimensions of this little hatch. It is sized perfectly for a 99% of the time solo driver who never goes to IKEA and doesn’t haul dead bodies into the Pine Barrens. It’s refreshing to see the Big T not try to create a “CUV replacement” but rather stick to doing a classic (almost) old school hatchback. The only thing about this car that curls my upper lip a little: that damn “floating tablet”. Toyota are even doing it in their flagship Avalon (although less ostentatiously than here) so it can’t all be about cost-cutting can it? Someone over there must think it looks good. I have a theory that there is an ongoing wager between the “head unit team” and the “grille team” to see who can get away with the most hideous designs. The head unit guys win on Corolla. The grille guys win on Avalon.
As a recent owner of this car(SE upgrade trim), I was hoping to see your review before buying, cause I would like to see the underbody, but couldn't wait anymore since winter is coming in Canada. So far really enjoy this car. Here are some pros and cons I found. Pros: Exterior and interior look great CVT feels great at launching Lots of safety features Made in Japan( if it means anything) Apple carplay! (you need to pay extra to get it on Mazda3s and civic? not sure) More power than the 2.0 Mazda 3 155vs168 It's a Toyota so less cost for maintenance Bronze colour looks so nice for me at least. Cons: Rear and trunk space is not big at all, compared to Mazda 3 hatch or civic hatch The sound system is just ok sounding No backup sensor and projections (back up camera is standard) Could use another 20 or more horsepowers The Dunlop tires seem to generate a lot of noise. Not a great choice as a family car due to the lack of space, but a great car for a couple or a single driver
I had a new Corolla sedanfor a week as a rental, two weeks ago. I could drive this on a regular basis. Can't say that about a lot of sub $25K cars. Not a fan of CVTs, it still does that constant rev mode under high acceleration. Driven "normally", it is really good. The handling was a surprise. Very good platform. Mark, your review was spot on to my impressions.
I agree, drove 1k miles in 4 days in a sedan. Pretty good overall, but the suspension is weak. I think it went out of alignment during the course of me driving it ;) for 20k one could buy a 3-4 year old mercedes.....
Can't tell you how much I appreciate the review of the SHOPPE! As a 2020 Corolla owner it's great to see how sealed up the underside is, thanks for showing us. I was curious how the stock tires would do in snow, based in Boston I was able to get by with 3-4 inches of snow on the road. What more could you expect from "all seasons". Traction control is pretty smart compared to my previous Jetta.
Excellent review! I just purchased mine today, should be taking delivery on Saturday. Got the XSE in Blizzard Pearl and Saddle Tan mixed fabric & leather interior.
Really good review. I love the scene where you put it on the rack and explained the rear suspension. It is quite sophisticated for this price range and explains the good ride and handling characteristics. And that is the reason the rear hatch floor is a little high as well. I just purchased a 2021 XSE, 6 speed manual, silver w/black roof and black interior (leather is standard in XSE). I am really loving it. Traded a 2012 VW SportWagen TDI w/ a DSG transmission with 80k miles. The cars aren’t comparable. It was just time. Lots of sportyness for the money. And hopefully much easier on the bank account.
Thanks man. This was a stellar review. I consider myself a car guy yet this was good balance of info i.e. I got all the concepts and wasn't lost googling certain lingo which would turn me away from the video.
I owned a 1986 Corolla GTS hatchback after graduating college. It was the last Corolla that I would ever consider owning. This one is stepping back into the right direction.
I watched this expecting it to be a very short review of a very dismiss-able car for anyone who considers themselves an enthusiast. The exact opposite has happened, i'm trying really hard to find something about it to not like or say "well what do you expect out of a corolla" Every corolla I have ever driven has wanted me to drive it right into a tree. It seems like they may have actually gotten this one right and it may even be worthy of a test drive. -Your most recent subscriber
I love my Toyota Corolla Hatchback. I live on a bumpy road so I've bottomed out a couple times, but the CVT with the jump gear, the adaptive cruise control, the styling, and the fit and finish make it a great package. The mileage doesn't quite match the EPA estimates, but it's still very good. It's more sport than utility, as the hatch isn't very spacious. And while the sound system and infotainment console are good, it doesn't yet have Android Auto. Every car has its compromises. Here I sacrificed space over styling (get the Fit or Mazda3 for luggage capacity) and I wish had a couple inches of ground clearance (get the HR-V or Crosstrek instead). This car has solid acceleration and an impressive tech package for a great price. I miss my manual Fit Sport occasionally, except when I'm in traffic, which is most of the time. I have zero regrets. The Hyundai Kona Electric looks enticing, but it's out of my price range. Zero regrets!!!
I just got over 44mpg in mine on a trip from Michigan to Kentucky and back with 300lbs of passengers and gear. I felt the same at first too, once I got used to driving it and finding certain throttle positions I can get almost 50mpg on smooth flat highways. You'll get there!
@@lukeywalsh I wouldn't count on it. But the thicker rubber will give you a softer ride. I've driven my xse on the 18" wheels for 25k miles around dirt and snow covered roads delivering pizzas and haven't had any issues bottoming out, so maybe it's more how you drive it
Great review! Think this is my second viewing. Loved the nestalgic reference to younger days....I learned to drive on a 1985 4 door corolla and have great memories of feeling like we were driving 100mph but still within the speed limit. Great to see the fun is back!! Plus 1 on the NA engine!
I am going from a 2017 Focus RS to a 2019 XSE Manual. Ownership experience of the RS does not equal the price. Really liked the Blue Flame XSE I test drove.
one of the best reviews i have seen ....infact all the reviews done at this channel are awesome...something i refer to go before i buy a car ...please keep the good work!
I love how comprehensive this review was. I would buy this thing in a heartbeat only if Toyota decided to release a proper hot hatch version and shoved another engine in there chucking out more than 200 bhp. It'd be perfect
Idk if you will see this, but the GR Corolla is everything but officially confirmed. likely around 270 bhp, awd, sounds exactly like what you and I both would want.
I see a lot of people questioning why they used a cvt and a first gear, thinking that it's a terrible idea and neither an auto or cvt. Here's how it works. Its analagous to Hondas vtec but with a transmission instead. When you drive it hard, the car simulates actual shifts and rows through gears. If you want to drive it soft and get good mpg, it will act 100% as a normal cvt. I've found it will rev through the gears whenever pushed past 2800rpm. Otherwise, it will hold a steady rev under that number and get you good fuel economy. It's really quite simple and fun, and has saved me a lot of money on gas even with my spirited pizza delivery driving
Awesome and comprehensive review, congratulations. I appreciate also that there's no annoying background music (like in most reviews out there by other people) and we can actually hear the engine sound.
Fantastic car! Love that blue color and glad that they are putting the effort in with making the CVT more sportier. I would definitely consider getting one in XSE trim in either stick or CVT if (A) the screen position with a bit lower, (B) real dual exhaust out the back, and (C) about 30 more horsepower. I love the look of this hatchback more so than the Fiesta ST and Veloster Ns. And it definitely has my eye when they make it have a bit more power.
I love mine. And it’s in this color, too. Wouldn’t change a thing. The screen is what I love the most. It’s sets the car apart from the smaller screens built down into the dash which are outdated. I’m 6 foot 1 and I have never bang my knee on the dash lol. How could you? So I don’t believe that for a minute. I also didn’t see you mention that you can also shift with the the stick by moving it over to the left. And moving it up and down. There are 3 ways to drive the transmission if you get the CVT!! That’s wild. Truly grateful I found this car. It’s beautiful. I don’t know why they are being marked as “sporty” other than their appearance. They are not quick or powerful in anyway. And being a guy who traded his Mustang in for this… it’s taking sometime to get use too. But it’s just a wonderful car to have. Gnight
I bought a SE CVT in part because of your review. This was an addition to my 2012 Matrix. The engine having port injection is a huge draw for me. The lack of forced induction is(surprisingly) a huge draw for me. The dedicated first gear in the CVT is a huge draw for me. The updated suspension is a huge draw for me. I did wait until cars on the lot were manufactured after the CVT recall, and even then only a handful were affected. My observations: -Gas mileage has been higher than advertised. This may just be my grandpa style driving. Perhaps it was tuned after ratings were established.(I've had 43.4 split highway/city, gets best RPM and mileage around 55-60mph) -Being on the CH-R architecture makes this handle obnoxiously well. The corolla hatch is shorter, thinner and weighs less than CH-R. Using the same base structure is CRAZY. -Having a first gear in a CVT now feels like a must. This works so well and is incredibly handy. -I don't understand the point of paddle shifters or sport mode. Again, maybe this is my grandpa style driving. -Interior feels like a Lexus from 7 years ago, aside from the cloth seating. While having an infotainment system from a Lexus from 7 years ago is rough, I like the general layout and feel. -Lost the Matrix C-Pillar windows, but they were pretty much useless. Gained A-Pillar windows, not sure if helpful but it is something I guess. -The engine will run port in park. This is something I observed at the dealership when viewing the car in the lot. I noticed the lines for port injection begin to shake(was consistent with all of the other engines) after setting in park for a few minutes. I'm guessing direct is used for start up. -The SE was cheaper than my 2012 Matrix, and offers far more than I could have expected in a Corolla Hatchback 7 years ago. Other notes. I wish SE had option for fog lights without upgrading trim to XSE. Fog lights are the only feature of XSE appealing to me. Increased price of XSE trim was not worth it to me for this option. But if you want Dual zone AC and heated seats, go for it. I want to believe in this engine. Its new, which is scary. But, the tech in this engine has been used in Lexus and Toyota trucks for some time and Toyota probably has it figured out. Let's just hope this engine comes with the same refinement as the 2ZR engine.
So pleased you mentioned the centre screen issue Mark, and your right, its not just a Toyota thing, they all glue cheap looking IPad on top of the dashboard like an after thought.... The glare issue subsequently is just another issue. Even premium brands are doing this to save cost.
Thank you so much for always giving such GREAT reviews. Knowing that I can check out your videos when I’m car shopping has really helped relive a lot of anxiety I had. I just did a test drive and being able to reference stuff from your videos made the salesperson take me seriously. I’m hoping to get a better salesmen next time and get a Carolla SE with the preferred package. Thanks again for all the information.
Like the looks of the new Corolla. Had the Auris before my current Audi. Now I'm thinking about going back to Toyota - especially with the practical hybrid wagon version.
You are lucky because we don't get the wagon over here. You will have two hybrid choices when the Corolla Touring Sports goes on sale next year , 1.8 and 2.0.
@@PhillyFan20 Check out the 2 minute Corolla Touring Sports video on Toyota Ireland's UA-cam channel. It perfectly demonstrates the superiority of the wagon model . Other markets get a hybrid hatch and/or wagon .
I prefer the civic hatch over this, mainly because I like the more juvenile design more than this mature design. I'll get the corolla when I'm in my 50s
DaDa啊達啦 Haha ahah 50? You would look a little less juvenile with this Corolla. The civic looks like a Chinese nock off car with all its massive fake vents. I only like the civic in its type R variant.
@@kompa2004 I've seen it in person at a Toyota dealership. I think if you black it out with spray paint, it looks good lol. After doing a ton of research and looking at the competition, this looks very appealing.
Yahoo!! I just got mine today! i got the MSRP of $27k+ model but i took it home for $23k+ 36 month lease / with buy option!! This guy review is so on point. I only test drive the car just because of the transmission, THE CVT IS SO AWESOME!! i dont care about the looks and style, becasue its all ok and perfect for me. i did not get the one with a white interior, because it gets dirty quick.. i got the black gray interior. all on all ,,,so worth it.
you prolly dont give a damn but does anybody know of a trick to log back into an Instagram account..? I was stupid forgot the login password. I appreciate any help you can offer me
@Amos Mitchell Thanks for your reply. I got to the site on google and Im waiting for the hacking stuff atm. Seems to take quite some time so I will get back to you later when my account password hopefully is recovered.
I've said it before and I'll keep saying it. I would love to see bring back the XRS (or GT-S) Corolla. That would be a great competitor to the Civic Si and Elantra Sport. Perhaps with a tweaked version of the Camry's 2.5L? But what do you guys think?
It would be interesting to see what range of oil viscosity the Owners Manual says is ok for different temperatures. There is usually a range given. 0W-20 should be perfectly fine, since the engine hydraulics that rely on the oil being a certain viscosity range still function perfectly as the oil is thicker as it warms up. So long as you use a full synthetic it'll ensure a consistent viscosity as the oil ages between changes. I find this comment from the oil testing experts Blackstone Labs the most pertinent... "0W/16 is a pretty new thing. We've only seen a handful of samples of it, mostly from fuel efficient Japanese cars. In our testing, it looks pretty much identical to a 0W/20 or a 5W/20, right down to the viscosty at 100°C. As to whether or not it's a scam--no, it's perfectly serviceable oil. @@DiscoFang It's not that I'm worried about how it will run. It's a matter of buying it myself to do my own oil changes. I haven't seen anything around, apart from the dealer selling it. That sounds expensive. Not sure why I'm worried, I don't own one of these new Toyotas. I'm sure it's all good, but it'll be interesting to see.
You have great reviews. The only thing I would add as a daily driver of CVT. The paddle or "gears" work great in slippery/ snow conditions. CVTs really suck in snow it seems like they don't know what to do most of the time. In the snow it's great to lock the cvt into a ratio and you can also engine brake which give you extra control. Found your channel a few weeks ago and you really nail the reviews.
Toyota should be praised for continuing to offer a manual transmission with the Corolla.
I have this in a manual. It’s still fun and peppy after over a year of dailying it. 32K miles on it.

Mikael Borhzka Ever seem Throttle House?
Check Carwow!
Neither throttle house or carwow come near the detail, clarity and objectivity of this channel
Throttle House is awesome, but their reviews never focus on basic transportation or folks with kids, they focus on performance aspects. This gent has more range, if you will, then most of the younger critics (such as straight pipes).

I watched all the reviews of 2019 Corolla XSE,but this video help a lot to take the diversion.thank you
@Evan Jeffrey no one cares at all
Just bought one of these about a month ago with all the same options.
A part of me really wants Toyota to turn this into a proper hot hatch. But then I wake up from dreaming.
I have a feeling that Toyota's just building great platforms such as this Corolla, the 86/BRZ/FRS, and the upcoming Supra, and is leaving it to the community to create whatever they want. The 86/BRZ/FRS is a prime example of that
@@adelsaeed4696
Eh. Thats there only "performance" car they have though. The rest are just big family cars. Toyota is mediocre except for reliability.

The Goose man out here killing it tbh! I cant stop watching all his reviews. Then bam! A new one comes out for a car I want, the universe is aligned...
Lucky dude same... i want a pearly white one.
"Sleepy time is over"
This is what happens when Toyota makes a manual hatchback!
Its a great looking car. I would not get the auto (cvt) but rather the manual. Rowing through the gears, while carrying your friends and family in the car, while having fun is the best.

@Wael Hamzeh except that it's far more reliable as it's built to Toyota standards. It might just be the best Coupe ever.

@@kwl189 best coupe ever? My opinion: C2 corvette. Nothing beats the C2

I test drove it today and I have to say, it's pretty amazing
It's the first time I watch such a presentation, with mechanical information and a bottom view. Really impressive.

@@rmwarriors16 Cheap interior for mid $30s price point is disappointing. I've heard it drives great +1 for a proper review.

Fit has even less space in the cargo area and less horsepower.
@mallrate25 i drive 4 people in one of these every day and theres no complaints :)
This is the only car related channel I can watch 5 video in a row!

How's it been so far?
Just got mine last week, 2019 in white. I love driving that thing like actually make an excuse to go out so that I could drive it. I like the CVT and engine combo with 42 mpg hwy.
Picking up mine in a month, looks great, rides great, looks really classy inside. I'm planning to keep it for 10 years. It's a real game changer after replacing boring Auris.
What do you think of the car so far, how many miles on it?
You are the only person who would ever get me to actually watch a review of a Corolla. And it was actually interesting! Great job.
As a recent owner of this car(SE upgrade trim), I was hoping to see your review before buying, cause I would like to see the underbody, but couldn't wait anymore since winter is coming in Canada. So far really enjoy this car.
Here are some pros and cons I found.
Pros: Exterior and interior look great
CVT feels great at launching
Lots of safety features
Made in Japan( if it means anything)
Apple carplay! (you need to pay extra to get it on Mazda3s and civic? not sure)
More power than the 2.0 Mazda 3 155vs168
It's a Toyota so less cost for maintenance
Bronze colour looks so nice for me at least.
Cons: Rear and trunk space is not big at all, compared to Mazda 3 hatch or civic hatch
The sound system is just ok sounding
No backup sensor and projections (back up camera is standard)
Could use another 20 or more horsepowers
The Dunlop tires seem to generate a lot of noise.
Not a great choice as a family car due to the lack of space, but a great car for a couple or a single driver
> Made in Japan( if it means anything)
seems only to the Chinese LOL
Wilfred Bao you are right on everything except the sound system. It is really garbage and not just OK.

Traded a 2012 VW SportWagen TDI
w/ a DSG transmission with 80k miles. The cars aren’t comparable. It was just time. Lots of sportyness for the money. And hopefully much easier on the bank account.
I finally got to drive one of these. Amazing car.. Because of the fuel economy I would probably just buy it in automatic.. It's really good.
Thanks man. This was a stellar review. I consider myself a car guy yet this was good balance of info i.e. I got all the concepts and wasn't lost googling certain lingo which would turn me away from the video.

How do you like it?

I watched this expecting it to be a very short review of a very dismiss-able car for anyone who considers themselves an enthusiast. The exact opposite has happened, i'm trying really hard to find something about it to not like or say "well what do you expect out of a corolla" Every corolla I have ever driven has wanted me to drive it right into a tree. It seems like they may have actually gotten this one right and it may even be worthy of a test drive.

Thanks for the testimonial. As time goes by I wonder if you will miss the manual.
What do u get mpg
I just got over 44mpg in mine on a trip from Michigan to Kentucky and back with 300lbs of passengers and gear. I felt the same at first too, once I got used to driving it and finding certain throttle positions I can get almost 50mpg on smooth flat highways. You'll get there!
What trim? I'm on a hilly dirt driveway. Hoping the SE trim has more clearance.

It is official now. 300hp awd, manual only
You always create the best reviews.
I love the reviews, and I love the use of Phantasy Star music covers!
I wish you would have reviewed the manual version as well.
i wonder if they even have a manual gearbox for it. That's what i would get, if i was buying this car.
@@vlenhoff they definitely do, 6 speed manual
@@vlenhoff Watch the review... he mentions the manual option.
@@ZZZRaven65, Miguel Ortiz, thanks! Sorry, I missed that.
It's like an automatic, but a lot more work.
My observations:
-Gas mileage has been higher than advertised. This may just be my grandpa style driving. Perhaps it was tuned after ratings were established.(I've had 43.4 split highway/city, gets best RPM and mileage around 55-60mph)
-Being on the CH-R architecture makes this handle obnoxiously well.
Even premium brands are doing this to save cost.
the looks remind me of the old Mazda Speed 3. that's a good thing!
Yeah, kind of turns the super bland corolla into something kind of cool.
Actually it reminds me a lot of the 2010 Mazda 3. Look at the rear - it's really similar.
The rear tail lights also reminds me of an ilx, this is a really sharply designed car!
Toyota and Mazda are in a joint venture contract.
Which doesn't include design or ICE development@@dezbriel9981
I love the look of that wagon. That thing needs to come to the US. The hybrid power train should've also been an option for the US.
@@PhillyFan20 Check out the 2 minute Corolla Touring Sports video on Toyota Ireland's UA-cam channel. It perfectly demonstrates the superiority of the wagon model . Other markets get a hybrid hatch and/or wagon .
guys the seats are seriously nice, and im not saying it from this video but seeing them in person as they are made.
@@Hirovard , Which seats are you referring to?
Finally someone who describes important things about cars. Thank you! I'm subscribed!
Finally a generation of Corolla look better than Civic. Civic hatch looks really ugly compare to this.
I prefer the civic hatch over this, mainly because I like the more juvenile design more than this mature design. I'll get the corolla when I'm in my 50s
It's an AMAZING CAR
DaDa啊達啦 Haha ahah 50? You would look a little less juvenile with this Corolla. The civic looks like a Chinese nock off car with all its massive fake vents. I only like the civic in its type R variant.
Qahar Raheel they don’t looks bad in person... car looks very nice in person
Awesome! What color did you get? Got mine in black. 😄
@@al3826 i got the paprika red? not sure the name but the night i saw it, i said naahhhh.. but when they cleaned it ....WOW!!!

Great review!
I can’t convince myself to like this over the Mazda 3 hatchback.
Hi from South Africa ! Not even 1:20 sec into the review and I wanted to and did subscribe great review ! And presenter !
A really great review, looks like a winner!
you prolly dont give a damn but does anybody know of a trick to log back into an Instagram account..?

@Amos Mitchell Thanks for your reply. I got to the site on google and Im waiting for the hacking stuff atm.
Seems to take quite some time so I will get back to you later when my account password hopefully is recovered.
@Amos Mitchell It worked and I now got access to my account again. Im so happy:D
Thank you so much, you saved my ass :D
@Alan Raphael Glad I could help :)
I been searching for this!! You just gave me the exact car that I'm buying.
I've said it before and I'll keep saying it. I would love to see bring back the XRS (or GT-S) Corolla. That would be a great competitor to the Civic Si and Elantra Sport. Perhaps with a tweaked version of the Camry's 2.5L? But what do you guys think?
The 2.5 would be an excellent choice.
Ryan Littleton Def an XRS version with a high revving engine.
Question: this car runs on 0W-16 oil, where would I even get that? Or will it run on 0W-20 just fine?
It would be interesting to see what range of oil viscosity the Owners Manual says is ok for different temperatures. There is usually a range given. 0W-20 should be perfectly fine, since the engine hydraulics that rely on the oil being a certain viscosity range still function perfectly as the oil is thicker as it warms up. So long as you use a full synthetic it'll ensure a consistent viscosity as the oil ages between changes. I find this comment from the oil testing experts Blackstone Labs the most pertinent...
"0W/16 is a pretty new thing. We've only seen a handful of samples of it,
mostly from fuel efficient Japanese cars. In our testing, it looks
pretty much identical to a 0W/20 or a 5W/20, right down to the viscosty at 100°C.
As to whether or not it's a scam--no, it's perfectly serviceable oil.
It's up to you if you want to pay more for it, but the engine probably
won't wear any differently with 0W/16 versus 0W/20.
Alex Miller
Blackstone Labs"
