You are a life saver (I hope).just ordered this from AMZN & can''t wait to try it. I just used my boat this weekend & had the std alarm you get from mercs which which is low fuel, low oil or water in the separater. Only problem was the gauges for each engine are so crazed I can't read what the fault is.
I've got the same gauges that also look like crap. I'll be giving this a try this weekend. Thanks for sharing.
Man I have been looking for a video on this "crazing" for such a long time, thanks so much for posting this. Ive got a couple of jet skis that have the exact same problem, I almsot bought a new gauge because of the crazing, man you just saved me $700. Good stuff man keep making these awesome vids.
You’re a lifesaver. Right now I just replaced my Fishfinder and then the battery charger went out. Gauges are crusty and from what I can find you just saved me $700 on these! Thx
Jason Riemann glad I could help. I felt the same way when I first found out about the polishing papers!
Thank you for this wonderful way to fix the scratches was requested
Just ordered me some for my Mom's Caprice brougham gauge cluster lens, I've tried everything but seeing this I'm hoping it will work I'll give update thanks for sharing 👍😁
Got what used to be a clear plexiglass Golf cart windshield. With your idea, it's now new again! Thanks for posting!
Excellent! Thanks!
I have the same gauges and the same problem. I'm gonna give this a try! Thanks for posting this !
It takes a little effort but it is worth it! and cheap. i actually found it a bit cathartic
Amazing, saw video just in time. Thanks
Thank you. Very useful!
Great Video. Early on you had me scared that you really messed up. End result looks very nice.
i was a bit nervous too at first ;)
Thanks for the help. After watching your video I thought I would try the same job on my boat (Yamaha gauges). They were unreadable. Could not find 3M kit you suggested so I used 120 grit wet and dry initially to remove cracks. Then worked through 360, 800 and 1200 wet and dry progressively. Finished off with a automotive cutting paste and they are 100%. I might try going further if I come across some finer paper
no prob. i found the paper on amazon
Thank you JoeTechProjects and Graham this method worked great. Excellent video and description 👍
Well done 👍
Great!!, this give me the encourage to polish mine!!!
Glad you found us. Have fun with it :)
good job there but you forgot one last step you should put a clear coat UV protection
Not gonna lie it started out scary as hell but very nice finished product and now i’m going to attempt this with my gauges lol
Wow. So good. At 8:43 I would bet that you just changed the glass...
Thanks for sharing this video. I have the same issue with my Yamaha gauges plus the LCD polarizing film is bad. I am definitely going to polish the lenses and if I can get the gauges apart without destroying them I will replace the polarizing film. For what these gauges cost when new and any replacements I have found, I think there should be a class action against Yamaha or whoever manufactured them.
There is a guy in Florida that can replace the polarizing film. gaugesaver.com
Hello, can you tell me how to reset the temperature light, thank you
Joe thanks for posting this video. It really crazy how expensive these Yamaha tach's are. Especially the older ones for a 2stroke.
Can you list the order and size paper you used. Thanks
thanks for your comment and you are right about the guages $$$. i dont remember the exact ones i used, but i started off with roughest grit and worked my way to the finest...but i skipped a few "grits" in between each. once you get started youll get an easy feel for it.
Clear coated with uv protection Clear paint
Amazon has 2 3M products.
3M 39045 Headlight Renewal Kit with Protectant (In a red box about $24) &
3M 39008 Headlight Lens Restoration System (In green box about $16 bucks. Do you remember which poduct you purchased? Thanks again
yep, click the see more info dropdown arrow under the video. i have a link directly to the paper on amazon.
What's the product you used?
Do you think that will work on the same as a fourwheeler gauge or display?
probably so. i think they are all acrilyc or similar...types of plastic
Would this work on a foggy cluster on a car?
I think i should... however you may want to find out if it is moisture or chemical first...could be a build up of "armor all"...etc. Unless you know it is scratched up - try some vinegar and water first. Otherwise - it should work.
***** In the case of Armor All, what is the ratio of vinegar to water?
I usually start off with 25% vinegar in most cases...then it is easy to add more if needed.
Are they holding up OK? I was thinking about making covers to put over them so the sun don't toast them again when boat isn't in use. I have a Century also. 2100 series.
yep, they are still looking good. the crazing has returned a bit but id say i have a couple years more before the next polish
Amazing .... a bit wordy though
Joe! Terrible LONG introduction! Is that really necessary? Pls hols hold camera steady.
