I don't know about that.. I feel like since covid whenever I go to any shop there is ALWAYS a big sale section not matter what season it's crazy. Just have to keep paying attention to things mentioned in this video about looking out for simple non "statement pieces". And sales section is great for that cause people are exactly drawn to those clothes that have a lot of textures and colors and prints etc. going on. But if you know what you're looking for you might find some hidden gems! One other tip is to look for some high quality things when you go to holidays in a country with much lower salaries. I am currently for summer in macedonia and found an AMAZING designer leather handbag, amazing quality but a designer that is less known. For local prices it's crazy expensive as I payed 100$ (which of course still is money but it's a real bargain considered the quality). I did get some leather shoes and a neat blazer for my bf too for a fraction of the price at home and great quality and it's great for the economy here to spend some money as a tourist.
I have only just found your channel and I love your videos. I am 75, and find them so relevant. Why should looking good be only for the young in age and not for the young at heart. Can you imagine if there would come a time in your life when it wasn't appropriate to be well dressed and current (not trendy!) I love the denim shirt, so ageless! Thank you for doing these videos.

I've been on a 'mission' to 'improve' my style (and wardrobe). I've been letting go of plastic sandals/shoes, peep toes, too short shorts/skirts, different patterns, bad quality fabric... I've also been avoiding colours which would be different to match... Your comments were very helpful to reinforce why I shouldn't buy this or that. I don't really wish for a 'luxury' style, but an 'elegant' and basic one. Thank you for the video!
Guys. This is the best advice ever. I waatched this video in April when I first started to be more fashion conscious (or at least act on the advice) and I was iffy about it (I love colours and prints and trends lol but my outfits NEVER matched without hours of effort). I followed the advice and omg I literally do not have to agonize over outfits anymore! Plus the clothes look so great, once I finish buying all the basics (I really had to buy everything from scratch lol) I can even insert a few colours here and there. Best decision ever. Rewatching this I'm realizing the value of the advice TT
You are so right! My mother used to say if you. Uh well you buy once. I have several pieces that I have owned for decades. Classic styles. If my house were to be on fire, I would save my cats first and then go back in for a few of those pieces!

I feel the best in a clean white t shirt a great blazer and properly fitting jeans...my printed trendy stuff stays at the back of my closet. @@Giannas1096 that’s my problems too. I’m in my mid 30’s. One minute I’m a size 12 in jeans/pants and the next I’m a size 8. What I’ve been told (which has been such a weight lifted off my shoulders) is that it is more than normal for a woman’s weight to fluctuate, so luxury minimalist comes in - 1 or 2 pairs of nice jeans or pants in a size 8 and 12. I’ve tried it and it’s been so nice. I feel less stressed knowing I have those different sizes covered.
This is so true.... at uni I accumulated over 50 pairs of heels in the sales in all different colours, all so high/platform, to go with many many dresses, all of which I probably wore once each. I ended up selling all of it on Vinted and made about £200 total for probably close to £1000 worth of absolute rubbish. Also, I hated clubbing. The things we buy when our mum isn’t there to judge!
I would love to see a styling video on when to crop or not crop trousers/jeans! How do you choose the correct and most flattering length of trouser/jean. I notice you crop your straight leg but often have longer wide leg jeans and id love to know the ‘look behind the look’ for this! Thanks so much ☺️

I walked into the physical therapist’s and she complimented me on my platform shoes then stated when I got home I should go gather all shoes with heels that high, and get rid of them!
I have neutral coats, trousers and jackets then add colour/patterns with my shirts and tops ..that way I can inject the 'pop' but still look pulled together.

Color - It works if you are thoughtful about what colors you choose to bring in. Limit to a few and make sure they are a similar value so they all work together with your chosen neutrals.
I absolutely agree with all of the points--particularly too many trend pieces, magpie pieces, and poor quality fabric. I also have very few colorful pieces due to lack of versitility.

Tips worth repeating!!! I limit patterned clothes not only because they are difficult to match or being worn different ways but also because after 2 or 3 wears I am bored with them! I stick to the classic: stripes, polka dots (I particularly love misshaped dots) I also avoid animal prints (get bored with them quickly too) I still shop at H&M from time to time but look for their best quality fabrics, however I will not buy dress pants or blazers there as I found them of very poor quality and looking cheap!!!.
I bought some things last night, kept the gray linen blouse/jacket, but took back the Banana Republic pink sweater and joggers. The piece I kept was the most classic.

Great tips! I would even add avoid buying things that don't fit quite right. It's okay if it's a hem than can be shortened, but buying something that is way too tight that you think may fit one day is just not worth it. Thanks for the advice!

Thanks for these tips. Only thing I’d say is that your approach to colours doesn’t quite work for me. Blacks, whites and neutrals tend to wash me out, whereas berry/autumnal columns really suit me. I stick to those colours and they all work together so I’ve never had problems piecing outfits together. With your colouring you look great with mainly white/black/neutral outfits do your approach makes sense but think it varies a lot for others.
I agree- I have some neutrals in my closet to pair with colorful pieces, but most of my closet is made up of reds, greens, browns, and occasional bold color pieces. I think the point is finding a long-term color palette that works for you, which it sounds like you have!
I live in Florida and I have a hard time with dressing well with the heat. Doesn't help when your hot and bloated! I like everything simple and plain with good material but I have a hard time finding things I like :(
57! Want to mention how I’m gravitating towards cognac colored leather as my neutral basic… reminds me of toasted marshmallows or perfectly cooked Snickerdoodles❤️
Well one thing that helps when gooijng for colored clothes and patterns is to still stick to one scheme. For example I always notice how I end up being drawn to tops with lots of patterns, but most of my pants and skirts already have patterns on them so it won't match. So now I ended up getting some neutral black pants and even some boring beige ones (cause they are comfy and easy to match and were on sale) and have now something I know I can match with a few patterned tops. In the other hand I try to stick to only buying tops with only one color. I also stick to a few specific colors: Pale pink, yellow, wineread and military green. There are some exceptions but I mostly stuck to these colors that go well with my skin and haircolor. If you really declutter and keep the things you really wear you end up knowing what you have so when you go shopping you can ask yourself what you would combine the new piece with. If you can't think of at least 3 tops / bottoms then it's not worth it.
Totally agree with everything you said but totally fell in love with the mint jumpsuit with flowers 😍 do you remember where you got it? I‘ve been on the hunt for an elegant well-fitted jumpsuit for quite a while!
This is very dependent on climate and region. I live in AZ, so summer clothes are 3/4 of the year. End of summer sales are amazing for me bc I wear summer clothes until end of December, then again in April. My husband wears sandals year round here. I love the sun.
They’re obvious, but we’re all guilty. I tell my self I live by these rules, but I’ve had times where I’ve spend so much money on things on this list and then I regret it.

Hi i'm new here. I'm not subscrived (not yet) . You are at point of: "don't buy to much color." Andthat is okay for you and for people who are into simulair style as you, but for some color is easy . Personaly its 50-50 i think. If i look in my closet it goes from black to gray' S to brown & beiges to white to blues to greens to here ^ there some prints and with the right tones i can wear them together or not depending on my mood of the day. Its all about how you feel wearing your pieces & how you want to feel Sometimes i use a pop of color or sometimes i wear full color look (like grassgreen it pops, its bright (without the feeling of neon)yet dark enough, its chill yet chic, its happy but calming too. ) it makes my outfit a hint more playfull bc thats how i feel or it can be the opposit; i can use it bc i don't feel good but i don't want people to know
The only “color” I buy, besides the more obvious neutrals, is blue. But the key to a well-coordinated wardrobe is to have a limited color palette whatever colors you choose.

There are some crop tops that, when worn over a classic white button down, can inexpensively bring a new vibe to what otherwise can be a sort of boring look with just the white button down. Don't be so quick to put the kabosh on skimpy tops. I'd never wear one by itself, because there aren't warm enough, and I'm too old for that look, but paired on top, or beneath other things, they can really add that extra bit that elevates outfits in the most flattering ways.
You should look into audio equiptment or editing to lessen the echo. Love your accent but the echo makes it hard to understand some words unless I put earphones on or put the captions on. Just thought I'd let you know.

The best advice I have gotten from you tubers is to spend your money on classic neutrals that you will wear a lot, and less money on trends.

I use scarves to add color and change up an outfit for seasonal updates.
I have a black blazer that is over 20 years old. Got it in Montreal. Very high quality, French seams. It looks brand new and still on trend.

That’s my problem, my weight fluctuates too much which puts me off buying expensive quality clothing.

I tend to go mad on colour in summer as I love retro maxi dresses etc and in winter go more neutral and cosy🥰 bring in colour with a bag or scarf.

Great tips! I would even add avoid buying things that don't fit quite right. It's okay if it's a hem than can be shortened, but buying something that is way too tight that you think may fit one day is just not worth it. Thanks for the advice!

Thanks for these tips. Only thing I’d say is that your approach to colours doesn’t quite work for me. Blacks, whites and neutrals tend to wash me out, whereas berry/autumnal columns really suit me. I stick to those colours and they all work together so I’ve never had problems piecing outfits together. With your colouring you look great with mainly white/black/neutral outfits do your approach makes sense but think it varies a lot for others.
I agree- I have some neutrals in my closet to pair with colorful pieces, but most of my closet is made up of reds, greens, browns, and occasional bold color pieces. I think the point is finding a long-term color palette that works for you, which it sounds like you have!

I live in Florida and I have a hard time with dressing well with the heat. Doesn't help when your hot and bloated! I like everything simple and plain with good material but I have a hard time finding things I like :(
57! Want to mention how I’m gravitating towards cognac colored leather as my neutral basic… reminds me of toasted marshmallows or perfectly cooked Snickerdoodles❤️
Neutral options look so boring compared to pretty colored & patterned pieces, but it’s so true it’s hard to mix & match outfits without neutrals.
Well one thing that helps when gooijng for colored clothes and patterns is to still stick to one scheme. For example I always notice how I end up being drawn to tops with lots of patterns, but most of my pants and skirts already have patterns on them so it won't match. So now I ended up getting some neutral black pants and even some boring beige ones (cause they are comfy and easy to match and were on sale) and have now something I know I can match with a few patterned tops. In the other hand I try to stick to only buying tops with only one color.
I also stick to a few specific colors: Pale pink, yellow, wineread and military green. There are some exceptions but I mostly stuck to these colors that go well with my skin and haircolor.
If you really declutter and keep the things you really wear you end up knowing what you have so when you go shopping you can ask yourself what you would combine the new piece with. If you can't think of at least 3 tops / bottoms then it's not worth it.
So current and relatable at 72 yrs. Please share your ideas for petites.

This is very dependent on climate and region. I live in AZ, so summer clothes are 3/4 of the year. End of summer sales are amazing for me bc I wear summer clothes until end of December, then again in April. My husband wears sandals year round here. I love the sun.

Lydia, I love your channel. I would really appreciate an entry on how to wear straight cutout jeans, as a trend that's lasting surprisingly long (to me). Hi i'm new here. I'm not subscrived (not yet) . You are at point of: "don't buy to much color."
Andthat is okay for you and for people who are into simulair style as you, but for some color is easy . Personaly its 50-50 i think. If i look in my closet it goes from black to gray' S to brown & beiges to white to blues to greens to here ^ there some prints and with the right tones i can wear them together or not depending on my mood of the day.
Its all about how you feel wearing your pieces & how you want to feel
Sometimes i use a pop of color or sometimes i wear full color look
(like grassgreen it pops, its bright (without the feeling of neon)yet dark enough, its chill yet chic, its happy but calming too. ) it makes my outfit a hint more playfull bc thats how i feel or it can be the opposit; i can use it bc i don't feel good but i don't want people to know
The only “color” I buy, besides the more obvious neutrals, is blue. But the key to a well-coordinated wardrobe is to have a limited color palette whatever colors you choose.
This is such great advice Lydia and I have bought items in the past which I found difficult to pair up with other items in my wardrobe. I used to impulse buy a lot but have learned some valuable lessons from you!!

There are some crop tops that, when worn over a classic white button down, can inexpensively bring a new vibe to what otherwise can be a sort of boring look with just the white button down. Don't be so quick to put the kabosh on skimpy tops. I'd never wear one by itself, because there aren't warm enough, and I'm too old for that look, but paired on top, or beneath other things, they can really add that extra bit that elevates outfits in the most flattering ways.
