As a 4th generation Oklahoman who has several pair of cowboy boots and everyone I know has cowboy boots I have to agree with you as them as a trend. They are hard to fit and hard to style and can be unflattering if not done correctly. They can also look cheap unless you get real deal leather boots from a heritage brand and that’s an investment for people who wear western style clothes on a regular basis not for trends. But she repeatedly says the words "looks cheap". I mean, that's pretty close to being insulting. I don't know why people feel the need to glorify a channel person. This one is very good looking, but she is quite young and doesn't know much about life is my guess. I'd much rather someone who has some lived experience and is unafraid to take risks. Being scared of making a mistake is not really exploration is it? Plus she makes pronouncements based on what suits her. She's on the shorter side, and I wouldn't wear what she does. It works for her. But that doens't make it universal truth.

I mean, calling other people's trend and style choices cheap and tacky isn't what I'd call 'not condescending', especially from a woman who subscribes to the idea of classiness. Cowboy boots are an iconic and quintessentially American staple (picture James Dean in the movie GIANT) for fashion and workwear especially in the western and southern states of the country. I can understand why you can’t relate to them because you need a certain attitude and grit to pull them off authentically otherwise it just comes off as a costume. A LOT of this depends on your body type and coloring. The way you dress works great for a rectangle. But I’ve always wrestled with my curves - no matter my weight. Curves are always what you see first in me even when I was severely underweight. I also NEED color or else I completely disappear. So bright pink and even lime green work for me. Basics/classics are good, but they really need some added spice or they just won’t work for me.
Also, I just can’t break up my line much with color blocks or I look much heavier than I am.
Not everyone looks good in the same things.

    • @1eurolatefee
      @1eurolatefee 11 місяців тому

This is due to the different bodytypes. I think Lydia is a Natural, I am a true Classic and it seems to me - according to your description - that you are a Romantic bodytype. This is the base from where you start looking for clothes (in combination with a colour analysis).
Lydia as a Natural needs flowy lines, she can get away with silk and other light fabrics very very well. I, in contrast, need constructed, clear lines, fitted clothes like most ppl in the office do. I like high quality cotton, for example. That is the essence of a Classic.
Romantics should emphasize their curves, no matter at what weight they are (this goes for all types), and look for cap sleeves, ruffles, clear but soft lines, smock details. I imagine that you may look good in pastel colours. Viscose dresses could also look good on you, its a flowy fabric but mostly thicker than silk. Avoid boxy shirts and oversized tops.

@@lornasimpson6518 😉 You're taking this far too personally, my dear. It's just her POV from a stylist who simply prefers more minimalistic, classic pieces.
Her predictability in this regard is wholly warranted & highly valued. The trends she disliked simply don't fit her lifestyle or world🌍. It's not an insult. Brush it off...
The beautiful Lydia is 💯% old money aesthetic. She's a more formal, aristocratic 🇬🇧 version of the 🐚Coastal Grandmother vibe (aka Martha's Vineyard, Hamptons, East Coast). Picture posh prep schools. Conservative style. Silver spoons. An elite lifestyle, long standing pedigree, & trust funds.
I certainly don't hate or envy Lydia's obvious advantages. Love her style, consistency, & advice〰️but I don't aspire to be her clone. Will take from her what works for me & leave the rest behind.
Afterall, I'm a redneck from 😎LA on the opposite end of the socio-economic scale. Come from strong blue-collar stock based in the Valley (not from the West side or Beverly Hills).
While I lean classic & minimal overall, I never could fully emulate her style sensibility. I realized long ago that she's way outta my fashion league ⚾️.
Having grown up in the aura of 🎬Hollywood, I am tempted by a bit of bougie bling & glamour💎. Animal print 🐆 always struck me as rather gaudy & nouveau riche, but I adore it. Here for some bold Barbie & bubblegum pinks. Although this is not a realm I ever fully immerse myself in.
I'm closer to white trash 🗑 . Cracked up when she disparaged 🪖camo & cargo in one breath when I recently bought a pair of bermuda shorts in that same pattern & style😳. Of course, they're strictly for hiking around my neighborhood vs polite society.
Seriously, tan & green khaki has major military & utility quality that's perfect for desert 🏜 climes. Cargo style, even in maxi skirt versions, are quite popular in our streetwear style history👍.
As Americana & working class as denim, 👖jeans are simply too structured & miserable for me in our hot☀️ climate🌡. ✂️Wore daisy dukes & ankle 🤠 cowboy booties back in the 90s for authentic 🎶 boot scootin', two-steppin', waltzing, etc. Even mucked out stables growing up to be able to go 🐎 Western horse back riding in our surrounding hills.
I always preferred denim shorts & low booties. Although cowboy booties are also super with swishy skirts for being romantically sashayed🎶 about the dance floor by a 💪brawny man.
Tie dye has certainly had it's moments in the spotlight here, but it never really appealed to me.

As someone who trains horses and wears functional western boots at work, I usually try to avoid trendy fashion cowboy boots that seem like a cheap version of the real thing when I dress myself outside of work. There are variations in style worn in different disciplines of western sports, but square toe boots have been stylish for the past 15 years. I know everybody's caricature of western is a pointy toe, but that is extremely outdated as far as authentic culture is concerned, and I think the general public could use some more modern inspiration. I think that the square toe shoe trend is a classier way to evoke western culture without going overboard. You can style a pair of square toe high heeled boots in tons of different ways that don't necessarily have to come off as western, but you still have the option to lean into it.

I agree 100% regarding the square toe. We spot the fashionistas when we notice the pointy toe because it is so outdated. I feel like the classic cowboy boot has its place, for sure, and it's mostly in farming and ranch communities. As a fashion element it still definitely has its place in the appropriate climate/terrain.

The problem with sheer - especially dresses - is the same as the problem with loud flowers. You wear them once, you cannot wear them more, it's so "obvious". • @Killjoy_Mel

Oh? You can't? That's a mindset problem. People don't think worse of you when you wear the same loud dress every now and then. In my experience, such statement pieces tend to become spectators' favourites. I love wearing my more obvious pieces every now and then, because nobody thinks you're classy and expensive when wearing a striped shirt, a skinny belt and white pants. They might think you're fun though, if you show up in loud florals.

I think sheer tops or items with sheer sleeves as a layering piece can look gorgeous. Sheer has been around for years and years. I had gorgeous lime green flares in the late 70s as a young girl. Cowboy boots are far from a trend and can look great and are often functional footwear. I think fashion varies from country to country. I could never wear head to toe stripes. They look a little too much like PJs to me.

    • @deborahcurtis1385
      @deborahcurtis1385 Рік тому +1

I agree totally. also bear in mind the physical type: if you're athletic then a more pared down look works really well. But if you're taller and more rangy, that won't work, it will simply emphasise the deficiency. So that kind of person can wear more dramatic looks without being a slave to fashion. It's essential to understand your fashion type and work it. IMO.
I personally would never wear double stripes I would feel like a circus person on stilts. Also I find this style of dressing rather too conservative and generic. It suits a lot of people but not me. I have elements of the classic in my wardrobe but I love lifting it with some interesting features or styles. You can indeed rewear a tie dyed look but you must get it in proportion and not wear something cheap quality that loses vibrancy with washing.
This is a very 'safe' style of dressing that's looking to be reliable and consistent. That's fine and while it's important to master those looks it can become a bit too quiet and understated.

I really liked your idea about thinking of how you'd feel about a trendy piece if you saw it at a cheap market. This is a great way of testing our attraction to a trend and the decision to invest. I can also see how you wouldn't be attracted to cowboy or Western boots as your style does not generally incorporate a lot of contrasting elements in the one outfit which for your style really works. Similarly, I think for people with a more eclectic style that like a high contrast in styles, Western boots would really work I.e. floaty dresses with Western boots. Carla Rockmore has an amazing way with Western style boots. That being said, I have a pair of Western boots that I have probably only worn once or twice and my style is generally very close to yours with a bit more of an eclectic element (I am about 30 years older). However, I am going to try and challenge myself to wear the boots this winter (I'm in Australia) as they are a really comfortable pair.

Unfortunately you totally missed my point.
My point is it's NOT necessary to be ultra polite and inclusive, you can have an opinion, even a robust one. That is my underlying point.
There is a kind of mania to characterising females in particular, as virtuous because they're being anodyne, to me it's hardly complimentary, but in this case it's inaccurate. As I point out. She did in fact call someone cheap looking. I think this is justified.
It's wrong to pretend it's not a strong criticism because it is. Why do we all have to be total fans of a channel? Or in slavish devotion to everything they say or do?
I agree with some things and disagree on others. In this case I agree with her. but I disagree she's being inclusive in saying it because clearly she is not.
I'd go further and say that all too often women in particular make it a point of not being contentious, therefore missing out on the possibilities of having animated discussion.
Not taking things personally, and not making personal attacks is the key thing. Be as vivid as you like with your opinions, I think there's not enough of it, but make them well thought out and witty if possible.
As for the point you do make, I completely agree. What a shame you have to disguise your descriptive term with a euphemism. Rat sh!t looking it is!

Yeah that’s the thing there’s trends and there’s style. When I watch those street style videos, the people with the best outfits were the ones that have pushed the boundaries in their styling. The ‘classic’ style is a trend in itself with the 80s/90s influence of the oversized blazers and suit dressing, Wall Street, old money aesthetic. People weren’t really wearing this trend/style 10years ago. Yes trench coats, stripe Breton, wide leg trousers were all worn 10yrs ago but the styling and the trends that went with it were different, like everything was worn with skinny jeans etc

To me, it means being able to walk into either a luxury brand name shop or a supermarket brand shop and being able to pick out a stylish white t-shirt over the plain white t-shirt or a stylish shirt over a plain shirt. What makes it stylish is that there are risks involved. And also being able to pick out a design and choosing the right fabrics for that particular design snd being able to mix fabrics into the designs. To me that is my idea of stylish.

It's not a look for London but cowboy boots are classic in some parts of the US.

@@deborahcurtis1385 in London, they wear Wellies. Not a particularly good look, but useful.

    Hello
I agree with most of it but not for sheer. A nice silk top with some sheer can be very feminine.

On board with everything bar the Western boots.
I have a pair of my mothers, handmade for her in Texas 40 years ago, which I’ve never needed to have resoled, despite regular wear (I pair them with lightweight, festival-style dresses, and love them so much).
I tend to stay away from trends for the most part, but when something aligns with my personal style, and will get years of wear, I have no issue adding it to my wardrobe.

I agree, an accessory is the way to go. The flower can be attached on different garments.

    Okay, Lydia...
Being from Texas, cowboy boots are not a trend they are a staple much like "wellies" are to your area.
    Luv your videos!

Hi Lydia, I have been subscribed to both of your platforms for some time now and I love them! Your content is wonderful, and although I am much older than you, I have learnt so much and now have my wardrobe looking and feeling like me!!!! I even have a list now of things I need to buy to put in my wardrobe and if it's not on the list I don't buy it... No more thoughtless "magpie" purchases!!!!! Sue x
