Hey good people! I really enjoyed painting my first 75mm display miniature! I felt like I learned a lot when it came to painting light/darkness but also some crafting and classical art with the background! I spent about 10 hours all in all on this and I am super happy about the result, what do you think? Tell me in the comments below! Check out Squidmar's Kickstarter to get your own 75mm display miniatures here! www.kickstarter.com/projects/squidmar/champions-of-sona-75mm-resin-miniatures Stay safe and lots of love to you all! 👍💙💛💙
Since I no longer play tabletop role playing or wargames, I paint and craft almost exclusively to display. And as I've gotten older, I've found that 75mm is A LOT more manageable than regular gaming minis. Your work is inspirational, and I encourage everyone to stretch your comfort zone a bit. Cheers!
Thank you, Leif, for another great video from the world of miniature painting and hobby crafting. I always enjoy your very "humble" and honest approach to painting and crafting. I find you approach and your videos very refreshing and motivating, as you always manage to find also the good aspects in struggle and, maybe, sometimes even disappointed. I painted my first miniatures eons ago, when I was still a teenager, but I have recently returned to the hobby and have equally struggled with becoming a better painter - and I wish, I had your skills and level. Watching your videos is a motivating and highly entertaining experience. In the tabletop club that I support at our local school, we enjoy watching your videos as inpiration together with our pupils. They equally enjoy your work and told me to pass along their thanks for your time invested. Thanks for sharing your way and progress here with the community. Happy trails and keep up the great work! We really appreciate it...
Oh crap! See even though I project the image of being a stone-cold Viking from the North(not!) I am actually a big softie! This comment made tears in my eyes. This is why I do YouTubing and specifically my tutorial style videos so thank you so very much for telling me SmurfinUSA and please extend my sincerest gratitudes to your class and pupils! Again, thank you! 👍💙💛💙

Wow Rejoice1631! I read the comment and had to go get some coffee to buy my mind some time to grasp this comment. Thank you so much! It's so extremely nice of you to say! 👍💙💛💙
Great video, and a cracking end result! Tomorrow, I'm about to embark on painting my first 75mm figure, and although a part of me is somewhat daunted, the other part of me (that loves a challange!) is really looking forward to it! It will be the final piece of a fantasy book nook that I have been building, which has a bit of a Greco-Roman theme to it; with the 75mm model (of a topless female gladiator - Helen Parsons, by Master Box Ltd), entering a mausoleum style building; which has an infinity mirror inside, with fickering led fire braziers and an ethereal green light glowing from the ceiling. The exterior of the mausoleum book nook, is a mixture of marble and sandstone architecture (using xps foam and bamboo skewers); there is also a carved Latin inscription above the marble entrance, which says, "INFINITAS EST VBI ACCIDVNT QVAE" ("Infinity is where things happen, that don't."), and an engraved brass plaque on the top of the book nook which reads, "VIDE INTRA CVBICVLVM INFINITVM" ("Look inside the Infinity Room."). As an extra experiment, which seems to have worked well, I have also applied some light dry brushing, over all of the stone and marble, using several of the Vallejo Colour Shift Galaxy range of paints. This has created a slightly surreal and magical merge effect, of both iridescent and pearlescent visuals, depending on where the viewer stands, as well as the type of lighting and time of day/night. The completed project is to be an objet d'art gift, for some friends of mine to display in their home. What I hope that I manage to achieve with the end result, is a work that provokes questions and conversations from those who view it; that it tells a story to the observer, that is unique to each individual's interpretation of it, and that the story possibly changes, with each subsequent viewing of it?
@@DevsDice Thanks for the reply. I have actually made adjustments to this project, and decided not to put the 75mm model in the book nook. This was because I hadn't properly thought through the placing of the mirrors, which lead to a 'Pepper's Ghost' effect in the infinity mirror, no matter where I tried placing the model, and I felt this spoiled the overall aesthetic. So, the 75mm model is now going to be for a different project; it is currently in the early stages pf being painted, but as I am also trying to work on 4-5 projects at the same time, things are not following their normal routines, lol!
Thank you so much Ethan! That very kind of you to say! I am especially happy when I come across as a sincere person because that is very important for me in all aspects of life. Probably to a fault! 👍🤣
Leif, first of all you are an amazing mini painting. You crushed this mini. And it’s no wonder Squidmar looked to you, your videos are great, well polished , humorous, and informative. Appreciate you sharing the context on painting fears we all get it. All the best will keep looking forward to more videos

Hey Hugo! Yeah life has been busy when it comes to work and family. I have heard others say the same thing, might want to re-click the bell notifications just to make sure! Thanks Hugo! Never know when some Bob Ross can help out! Stay awesome Sir! 👍💙💛💙
He came out so dope! Love the way you did the skin. When you talked about the feeling of painting. I felt that. I've only been painting for a couple of months. But one thing I learned from your videos that always sticks. Is when you say "Trust the process" I did my first beholder. Was my first model bigger then a 1 inch scale. I was nervous af. But I remembered "trust the process". And honestly I wish I could show you how it came out. Because I learned alot from you while doing it.
Amazing!! Words alone can’t describe how fabulous that minis looks. The background really adds character to the minis appearance. Great video and great job!
Yes Leif! Beautiful model. I honestly think you’re waaaay more talented than you give yourself credit for. It’s hard to fairly judge your own work and to be happy with what you’ve done, but I think that you should be more than satisfied with your progress.
Loved this! I recently painted my first display bust of a yautja and filmed it for UA-cam and I was worried about it because I don’t have an airbrush or fancy paints, and it was also my first time doing any mini painting. You’re right when you say you should just go for it. The results can be amazing, and if not, it’s a learning process. So happy to see another video from you, and your intros never fail to make me smile. That Aurora backdrop looks so good too!!
Thank you so much Goblin Cave Crafting! Yeah, I mean, one can stand on the side an "opionate" or one can get into the game and try. Failure is never trying, not to try and not succeed. That's learning, right? 👍💙💛💙
Thank you so much Ms Ednell! 👍😊 That's a great question... I think from an artistic point of view, the 75 mm just gave me more to work with and in some ways was more liberating. Normal miniatures will though have more exposure for me since I like to play tabletop games! 👍🤣
