Alex, I'm sorry to hear you've been struggling somewhat recently. I'm sure your films bring so much joy to many people - they certainly do to me. They look beautiful, your commentary is intelligent, funny, thoughtful and full of empathy. When I see a new 52 Minis film has been posted, I know I'm in for a real treat. I never watch your films on my smartphone - that would be such a waste! I watch on a big screen - it's what they fully deserve. The internal struggle really resonates. It is quite difficult sometimes to find the motivation to pick up the brush, even when we know the zen like state it will bring you to. Absolutely lovely paint job and a well received message to "just paint".
Hey Alex, hope things go better. If not, know that your videos and you bring so much joy, positive vibes and profound thoughts to us in the community. You are truly an inspiration. Big hug and sending my best.
I've only been back in the hobby for a little while. One thing I've noticed with the advent of UA-cam, is that at work they talk about football or golf and going for an alcoholic drink. It can often leave me feeling a bit of an outsider because these things don't interest me very much. But I can definitely picture myself spending time with every single content creator in the hobby. Thank you for this video. It's really good to hear you say that a hobby should be relaxing and 'yoga' like. Yesterday I was having a mental breakdown while kitbashing for my army. Watching this has helped to remind me to just take it easy and walk away. come back with a cool head.
This looks amazing! I think the mental benefits of painting time are huge. Hope your mental journey continues to move forward. It always amazes me that even professional artists like you doubt if they're up to painting certain projects. Helps to reinforce the idea that we all need to go outside our comfort zone from time to time.
Once again you made a beautiful and very personal video. It's the personal touch that really makes you stand from all the other hobby channels that can be found on here. I hope your personal troubles are temporary and that they will float by you by like a cloud in the sky. Your videos overflow from love for the hobby. Even though some times our hobby can hard and mentally challenging, it's good to see that this time, it gave you some love back. I hope you keep well. Guy
Alex, I could not agree more that there is something more to this hobby than painting one more mini and there is something meditative and calming about focusing some much on brushstrokes. Allows the back of the mind to clear whatever it needs to think through. Look after your mental well-being and hope you’re still feeling clearer. On a less serious note, it’s great to see you tackle this model and a new scale.

I have to tell you, you have become my favorite painter. They way you think and paint fascinates me. Dont forget to take care of yourself, and thank you for the lesson.
Looks great, interesting to hear a various thoughts on painting in different ways, honestly, loud/quiet/outdoors/monstry. All go through ups and downs and being able to find a way to self sooth is in my opinion the best way to get on and back to normal. I often butterfly between things, kids, minipainting, gaming, keeps me even kilter and away from too mono-driven. Hrm... should look that up, anyway, thanks.
Sorry to hear you’ve been having a rough time of it. Whenever I’m struggling I find your videos incredibly soothing. I hope you can find the peace of mind your videos bring me.
I loved every second of this video. Talking about your personal thoughts and feelings about struggling makes it so much more, than just another painting video on youtube, although since following you for a good while now I know that your content is always much more, than just a paintig video. I think a lot of viewers, including myself can relate to what you talked about and it adds a humane part to miniature painting that feels like it makes an unspoken bond between hobbyists. I could talk about things like this non hobbyist people and I can see they just don't understand it, but to a hobbyist friend I don't even need to ellaborate, they just know. The cinematography, narration, editing and of course that gorgeus miniature (not just talking about the sculpt, but your paintjob as well, that color scheme just hit all the right notes for my taste) was all fantastic, I wish for you the best Alex!
Thank you humbly C, I really do appreciate it. I’ve always felt that we, out hobby, deserves some sentiment on the fundamental aspects of having a hobby. Not “only” the “I gave people money to run around a game store and pick free things” (no disrespect). I just think there is more to all this that simple entertainment.
Alex, stay strong! seeing a new video from you brightens up my day. Your videos help others through their difficult times. This too will past. Thank you for sharing your journey with us .
I've been following you ever since Miniac suggested your videos. You have a wonderfully unique style and I hope you continue making content for years to come. Cheers good sir.
I think its a grand first attempt at this sort of thing.. I especially like the blue in the tree base areas... I hadnt thought of doing that. And lets face it the world is a bit rubbish at the moment, so we need our minis to help with the stress.
You are indeed a gentleman, Sir. Better times for you. This was a greatly painted miniature - I'm actually kicking in for an older model (the duchess), and the coffin because my brushes are a tangled mess at the bottom of a box.
Hey Alex. I just wanted to say thank you for everything you bring to this hobby and community. Your cinematography, insights, artistic inspirations and of course your painting are all truly inspiring. I hope you know, whatever darkness you are going through, that your work stands as a shining beacon of artistic joy and puts that joy in the hearts of all your viewers. Keep up the great work, best of luck!
Totally awesome mini, and painting! Also totally agree with the therapy part and I use my painting for exactly that and although my painting skill is nowhere near as good as yours, I and very happy with where I am at whilst using all the great painting UA-camrs to improve all the time.
Thanks Paul. I think it’s important. To not forget what hobbies can bring us. The deep dives we do are great fun, but we should not forget the simple things
As an Internet stranger, I'm happy you posted a new video, not because I'm looking forward to your content (because I am and do), but because I was thinking "I hope Alex from 52 Minis is doing OK" the other day . Good to see you and your work again.
I go through periods (often between 1 and 6 months) of not painting due to mental health issues. This was wonderfully beautiful! And I hope you soon come (or have come) out of the dark a bit 🙂 Also the ad was hilarious 😄
I really enjoy the artistry and tempo of your videos. And I must say, your expression of light and shadow through colour really stands out relative to a lot of your peers. Lovely work.
Thank you so much, not only for this amazing video... but the sharing of yourself along with it. Always a pleasure to watch, while being informative, uplifting and inspirational. Much love to you and yours.
Hope you are getting better! I feel you, I'm in a kind of slump ever since the last project I did and recent events aren't exactly helping. Thank you for the video and keep up the good work :)
Thank you for this. Sharing your work and showing that even someone who's talented can sometimes struggle (for any reason) with motivation to do what they love means that what the rest of us feel is normal. Currently in the middle of a 5+ week printing project (hopefully the painting will go quicker, lol) and I've had to grind out a few of those weeks on pure stubborn will. We see you and appreciate what you bring to the community Alex.
This is all so familiar. The fear to start a project, feeling overwhelmed and exhausted at the mid point, the temptation to put the mini down for *later* when you're deep in what Ninjon calls the assphase. I'm also a long term enduror of depression. I don't want to call myself a sufferer of depression, I much prefer to think of it as a recurring mental storm I need weather whenever it returns. But it does suck the joy out of everything I love, and it's often so much easier to be a passive spectator of the creation of art, than to be the creator myself. But this model you've painted really is art. It's not just an army piece, a pretty gaming counter. It has a depth to it, beyond just the colour choices and skillful application of technique. I think you've done a fantastic job of expressing some of that nihilistic need for destruction in your interpretation of this models character. Stay safe Alex, look after yourself, and let others look after you too.
I feel you on the inspiration front. Life has been a struggle for longer than I want to admit and I’ve felt like I was losing it here lately. I’m still struggling, but I’m glad I’m still fighting if that makes sense? I hope it makes sense. I hope your issues improve soon.
Hi Alex, have you ever considered using oil washes for blacklining? Not that the heavily diluted oil paint flows very nicely into the crevices it also make it much more easier to get thin lines. Since the oil paints tend to be darker and more opaque when they come out of the tube you can also use other colours than black. I think using oil colours makes this painting step more enjoyable and rewarding😉 Thanks, it is always a highlight when one of your videos pops up!
Hey Hans, yes, I've considered and tried :) I truly love oil paints, but also, like with the airbrush, try and not use it in all my videos. A lot of people are little scared of oil paints... so I try to nudge them in here and there but not all the time :)
Your paintjob is amazing! I really like it! Thank you for the video, it is understandable topic you are describing... motivation and real life colide, but in those moments it is the hobby love that can truly help us.
stellar photography. your 'miniature painting videos' are one of the few i always watch in full screen. lovely paintjob too. sometimes painting miniatures is for me like zen meditation, completely zoning out and enjoy my time being.
Beautiful model, beautifully painted! Totally get the painting in silence thing (I had wondered if I was the only one) - a late night painting session after a difficult day at work (that combo of darkness and stillness) is the perfect mental healing spell for me 🙂 Great video sir 👍

Beautiful work!
Alex, stay strong! seeing a new video from you brightens up my day. Your videos help others through their difficult times. This too will past. Thank you for sharing your journey with us .
Thanks T! I appreciate it humbly.
Banger, great paint job
I've been following you ever since Miniac suggested your videos. You have a wonderfully unique style and I hope you continue making content for years to come. Cheers good sir.
Thanks D, and I hope so to :)
I think its a grand first attempt at this sort of thing.. I especially like the blue in the tree base areas... I hadnt thought of doing that. And lets face it the world is a bit rubbish at the moment, so we need our minis to help with the stress.
Thanks S 🙏
You are indeed a gentleman, Sir. Better times for you. This was a greatly painted miniature - I'm actually kicking in for an older model (the duchess), and the coffin because my brushes are a tangled mess at the bottom of a box.
Thank you Rod, and great to hear. The duchess is lovely :)
I appreciate this immensely Riley. Thank you humbly
This is a really nice video, thank you.
Gorgeous painting! 🤩🤩🙌🙌
Thank you!
Great as always. And the bit during the sponsorship was Epic!
Hah! Thanks L! A bit of comedic relief was needed in this one I think :)
Thank you Alex. As usual, a major highlight to my day. Now to crack out one those 75mm models that I have but have been so intimidated by...
Glad to hear it Sean, and good luck.
Well thanks S! I appreciate the concern. Very much so.
Great stuff friend loving your journey 👏👍
Thanks Mark!
I go through periods (often between 1 and 6 months) of not painting due to mental health issues. This was wonderfully beautiful! And I hope you soon come (or have come) out of the dark a bit 🙂
Also the ad was hilarious 😄
I really enjoy the artistry and tempo of your videos. And I must say, your expression of light and shadow through colour really stands out relative to a lot of your peers. Lovely work.
Thank you humbly Adam!
2:43 now this is a great shot I have not seen before. Great videography!
Thanks Wijkert!
Snyggt Jobbat Alex! Always glad to see you posting. If you need to take a break for yourself do it .the internet will still be here when you get back.
Tack man!
Great paintjob. I really enjoyed watching your approach. "A Work of Art Is Never Finished, Merely Abandoned." -Leonardo da Vinci
Thank you very much!
Thank you so much, not only for this amazing video... but the sharing of yourself along with it. Always a pleasure to watch, while being informative, uplifting and inspirational. Much love to you and yours.
Thank you T! I appreciate it.
Thank you Jon, we all have things going on, and I’m glad we all share a hobby and a community where we can connect and share appreciation.
Praise the Brush 🖌️🖌️🖌️
Ohhmmmmm...
always happy to see larger scale models (and gorgeous work!)
It was a much more different experience than I thought. Size matters...
Thank you Mikey. I'm sorry to hear about your storms, but it seems to be the way of many. We just don't talk about it that much. We probably should :)
I actually loved how it looked after the first layer of colour! Gave it a water colour look, I will definitely have to try that on a model someday!
Amazing paintjob on a fantastic model - nice work 52!
Thank you CC!
You painted her beautifully - i really like your colour composition and the way you put them on the model
Thanks A, I appreciate it.
Amazing.
My only regret is that I have but one like to give for this video.
Thanks Bo! I'm grateful for the one :)
I feel you on the inspiration front. Life has been a struggle for longer than I want to admit and I’ve felt like I was losing it here lately.
I’m still struggling, but I’m glad I’m still fighting if that makes sense? I hope it makes sense.
I hope your issues improve soon.
I agree, and I'm sorry to hear your having a rough time. The fight is a fight, but it's very much worth fighting.
I think using oil colours makes this painting step more enjoyable and rewarding😉
Thanks, it is always a highlight when one of your videos pops up!
Thank you Stepan, great to hear. And yes. This hobby is a great asset in may ways.
The mini is amazing and you did it justice! Love your paint style! 👌🏻👌🏻👌🏻
Thanks Monki, I appreciate it.
This was an awesome video. Very inspiring and gorgeous final model
Your style of video is my absolute favourite. So well put together and an absolute pleasure to watch. Hope you get into a better place soon too.
Thank you Tobias, I appreciate it. Truly.
I think it is a fantastic paintjob and you can be more than proud of it 🥰🤘👍
Thanks Christian!
stellar photography. your 'miniature painting videos' are one of the few i always watch in full screen. lovely paintjob too.
sometimes painting miniatures is for me like zen meditation, completely zoning out and enjoy my time being.
Glad to hear it Hans, thank you. And yes, it's a great hobby in many ways.
Beautiful model, beautifully painted! Totally get the painting in silence thing (I had wondered if I was the only one) - a late night painting session after a difficult day at work (that combo of darkness and stillness) is the perfect mental healing spell for me 🙂 Great video sir 👍
I do think it's a good thing to try. Just let the brain work away on the filing and sorting..
Absolutely beautiful results and message!
Thank you CC!
@@52Miniatures thank you for sharing your art! Honestly, the finished product blew me away! Especially considering the context of not feeling inspired to be creative. The colour pallet and detail are amazing.
@@canuckchuck8836 Taking a humble bow :)
Lovely job on that mini! I wish I could paint like that ...
Thanks Nat, I appreciate it.
i really love seeing your wetblend base. i struggle with organic and your technique nails it.
Thanks Ryan, glad to hear it.
