Alex! You crushed this paint job!! You painted it so thoughtfully, caring about each detail that I included in the sculpt. It was so much fun to watch you discover these details live and talk about how you tackled them. I love seeing an autumnal version of The Witch and now I want to see a winter one!! I always appreciate your videos so much. Your sentiments about how the hobby can sometimes be ironically stressful is something I relate to a lot. Thank you for your hard work on the paint job and the video!
Thank you Scott! I'm real glad to see the kickstarter getting its start kicked thoroughly. Your hard work and these miniatures deserve it. And yes. Can we see a winter one please? :)
Alex, I'm sorry to hear you've been struggling somewhat recently. I'm sure your films bring so much joy to many people - they certainly do to me. They look beautiful, your commentary is intelligent, funny, thoughtful and full of empathy. When I see a new 52 Minis film has been posted, I know I'm in for a real treat. I never watch your films on my smartphone - that would be such a waste! I watch on a big screen - it's what they fully deserve. Alex, please keep doing what you do (and change to different things if you like - I loved your mini library!) and keep yourself well - you deserve it!
It's never fun to learn about the difficulties of someone else that seems respectable. I sincerely whish that you'll go better on every aspects of your life and I thank you again for quietely sharing your passion and ideas, it's always calm and refreshing
@@52Miniatures Well, presently, I can only offer you my sympathy and my best wishes. It's really not a lot, but I hope you would believe me when I write that I'm sincere. On a lot of points, I can relate to you, so your videos are touching and calm, in a very adult way. As an adult myself, and now a father, I assure you that your life is something I can relate. We all have our difficulties, let's hope it will be gone as soon as possible.
Man… i love your content! Everything about it from the stressed down video style, your honest sarcastic/cynical humour and the beautifull painting. Awesome!!
You make your painting process seem so effortless. Watching your videos is a good form of mediation/therapy in its own right. Also the colour selection and lighting of the model was fantastic.
I just want to echo the sentiment that many have mentioned here (Paul Holdsworth and Eqqo said it beautifully). Your videos are exactly what everyone needs, it's a gateway to express our passion as well as our feelings. Your videos always show a human side but not as much as this one. The openness, vulnerability and willingness to continue truly gives light for what might seem a dark moment. For that, I thank you.
Hey Alex, hope things go better. If not, know that your videos and you bring so much joy, positive vibes and profound thoughts to us in the community. You are truly an inspiration. Big hug and sending my best.
Getting the chance sit quietly and ride along your narrative wave of thoughts, exploration, introspection, and techniques is exquisite. Thanks for putting in so much hard work, it's very appreciated and savoured.
“What’s the worst thing that could happen?” I stopped by thinking about this for a moment, and I think that this statement is a key takeaway for any of us experiencing this kind of “tension”… and a good key to “snap out” of it. I mean, these days we have pretty much a good idea of “the worst that could happen” and a miniature painted below our own standard surely does not rank high up in such lists. Thank you for helping me put things back into perspective, by sharing your experience! Also setting a date to start, no matter what, is a great way to give ourselves no more excuses and just “go”. Ok, now let me watch the remaining 20 minutes of video…. 😄
The internal struggle really resonates. It is quite difficult sometimes to find the motivation to pick up the brush, even when we know the zen like state it will bring you to. Absolutely lovely paint job and a well received message to "just paint".
Thank you for this video. It's really good to hear you say that a hobby should be relaxing and 'yoga' like. Yesterday I was having a mental breakdown while kitbashing for my army. Watching this has helped to remind me to just take it easy and walk away. come back with a cool head.
I've only been back in the hobby for a little while. One thing I've noticed with the advent of UA-cam, is that at work they talk about football or golf and going for an alcoholic drink. It can often leave me feeling a bit of an outsider because these things don't interest me very much. But I can definitely picture myself spending time with every single content creator in the hobby. Being able to open my phone then hear and see you guys really helps. For this I'm truly grateful to everybody out there for spending their time making videos about our hobby. Thankyou.
@@52Miniatures i doubt it very much. 👍 The know how i spend my time, but just say things luke "i haven't got the patience for that" or "how can you even see to paint that small". The nearest thing is one guy ties flys/lures for fishing 🎣.
I have been struggling recently myself. Your videos help my process through things. Having watch this one and seeing how you have started to bring yourself back has inspired my to work on myself. Thank you for the inspiring content may you get better and bring us along with you.
Once again you made a beautiful and very personal video. It's the personal touch that really makes you stand from all the other hobby channels that can be found on here. I hope your personal troubles are temporary and that they will float by you by like a cloud in the sky. Your videos overflow from love for the hobby. Even though some times our hobby can hard and mentally challenging, it's good to see that this time, it gave you some love back. I hope you keep well. Guy
This looks amazing! I think the mental benefits of painting time are huge. Hope your mental journey continues to move forward. It always amazes me that even professional artists like you doubt if they're up to painting certain projects. Helps to reinforce the idea that we all need to go outside our comfort zone from time to time.
Alex, I could not agree more that there is something more to this hobby than painting one more mini and there is something meditative and calming about focusing some much on brushstrokes. Allows the back of the mind to clear whatever it needs to think through. Look after your mental well-being and hope you’re still feeling clearer. On a less serious note, it’s great to see you tackle this model and a new scale.
As always thanks you for sharing. I so appreciate the mix of things in your videos and for some reason this one brings me back to the many holidays I spend in my uncles summer house in Sweden. And the roaming through woods for many hours picking chantrelles. .
I genuinely had tears in my eyes at the end of this video. Your talents are an inspiration to me. Any time I'm having a stressful time at work I just put on one of your videos and listen. Thank you for all you do for the hobby!
I have to tell you, you have become my favorite painter. They way you think and paint fascinates me. Dont forget to take care of yourself, and thank you for the lesson.

Beautiful paint job, and that NMM gold is legitimately excellent, really tricks my eye. I always appreciate your insights and your introspection, not to mention your dry wit! I'm sorry to hear that some things in your life haven't been great lately, and I hope that the affirmations in these comments help in some way, and show you the value that you bring to all of us who watch your videos, whether it be painting tips, leading us to having a think about life, or just pure enjoyment! I'm sorry you're going through a low point and I hope you find what you need on the other side of it. Know you're not alone and that there are people here who feel along with you and appreciate what you do :-)
Thank you for this. Sharing your work and showing that even someone who's talented can sometimes struggle (for any reason) with motivation to do what they love means that what the rest of us feel is normal. Currently in the middle of a 5+ week printing project (hopefully the painting will go quicker, lol) and I've had to grind out a few of those weeks on pure stubborn will. We see you and appreciate what you bring to the community Alex.
I really enjoy the artistry and tempo of your videos. And I must say, your expression of light and shadow through colour really stands out relative to a lot of your peers. Lovely work.
I loved every second of this video. I think a lot of viewers, including myself can relate to what you talked about and it adds a humane part to miniature painting that feels like it makes an unspoken bond between hobbyists. I could talk about things like this non hobbyist people and I can see they just don't understand it, but to a hobbyist friend I don't even need to ellaborate, they just know. The cinematography, narration, editing and of course that gorgeus miniature (not just talking about the sculpt, but your paintjob as well, that color scheme just hit all the right notes for my taste) was all fantastic, I wish for you the best Alex!
Thank you humbly C, I really do appreciate it. I’ve always felt that we, out hobby, deserves some sentiment on the fundamental aspects of having a hobby. Not “only” the “I gave people money to run around a game store and pick free things” (no disrespect). I just think there is more to all this that simple entertainment.
Looks great, interesting to hear a various thoughts on painting in different ways, honestly, loud/quiet/outdoors/monstry. All go through ups and downs and being able to find a way to self sooth is in my opinion the best way to get on and back to normal. I often butterfly between things, kids, minipainting, gaming, keeps me even kilter and away from too mono-driven. Hrm... should look that up, anyway, thanks.
As an Internet stranger, I'm happy you posted a new video, not because I'm looking forward to your content (because I am and do), but because I was thinking "I hope Alex from 52 Minis is doing OK" the other day . Good to see you and your work again.
Beautiful model, beautifully painted! Totally get the painting in silence thing (I had wondered if I was the only one) - a late night painting session after a difficult day at work (that combo of darkness and stillness) is the perfect mental healing spell for me 🙂 Great video sir 👍
Your paintjob is amazing! I really like it! Thank you for the video, it is understandable topic you are describing... motivation and real life colide, but in those moments it is the hobby love that can truly help us.
stellar photography. your 'miniature painting videos' are one of the few i always watch in full screen. lovely paintjob too. sometimes painting miniatures is for me like zen meditation, completely zoning out and enjoy my time being.
I go through periods (often between 1 and 6 months) of not painting due to mental health issues. This was wonderfully beautiful! And I hope you soon come (or have come) out of the dark a bit 🙂 Also the ad was hilarious 😄

Amazing paintjob on a fantastic model - nice work 52!
Thank you CC!
Amazing.
My only regret is that I have but one like to give for this video.
Thanks Bo! I'm grateful for the one :)
You painted her beautifully - i really like your colour composition and the way you put them on the model
Thanks A, I appreciate it.
Thanks Dan!
This was an awesome video. Very inspiring and gorgeous final model
Thank you Alex. As usual, a major highlight to my day. Now to crack out one those 75mm models that I have but have been so intimidated by...
Glad to hear it Sean, and good luck.
2:43 now this is a great shot I have not seen before. Great videography!
Thanks Wijkert!
I think it is a fantastic paintjob and you can be more than proud of it 🥰🤘👍
Thanks Christian!
As an Internet stranger, I'm happy you posted a new video, not because I'm looking forward to your content (because I am and do), but because I was thinking "I hope Alex from 52 Minis is doing OK" the other day . Good to see you and your work again.
Well thanks S! I appreciate the concern. Very much so.
I ordered all three!! Can't wait!
Wow! Good luck Austin!
@@52Miniatures thank you !! Going to try my hardest on each one and I hope I learn a ton in the process. Yours is awesome too by the way haha
I actually loved how it looked after the first layer of colour! Gave it a water colour look, I will definitely have to try that on a model someday!
Snyggt Jobbat Alex! Always glad to see you posting. If you need to take a break for yourself do it .the internet will still be here when you get back.
Tack man!
I love this video! So honest, I liked how you spoke about the importance of hobbies and the mini looked stunning love the autumnal feeling
I'm glad to hear it Sophie, thank you.
This is a really nice video, thank you.
Beautiful model, beautifully painted! Totally get the painting in silence thing (I had wondered if I was the only one) - a late night painting session after a difficult day at work (that combo of darkness and stillness) is the perfect mental healing spell for me 🙂 Great video sir 👍
I do think it's a good thing to try. Just let the brain work away on the filing and sorting..
Your paintjob is amazing! I really like it! Thank you for the video, it is understandable topic you are describing... motivation and real life colide, but in those moments it is the hobby love that can truly help us.
Thank you Stepan, great to hear. And yes. This hobby is a great asset in may ways.
stellar photography. your 'miniature painting videos' are one of the few i always watch in full screen. lovely paintjob too.
sometimes painting miniatures is for me like zen meditation, completely zoning out and enjoy my time being.
Glad to hear it Hans, thank you. And yes, it's a great hobby in many ways.
I finally found out what i Love about your videos. You think. 😊
Hah! I try! :)
I go through periods (often between 1 and 6 months) of not painting due to mental health issues. This was wonderfully beautiful! And I hope you soon come (or have come) out of the dark a bit 🙂
Also the ad was hilarious 😄
Came out amazing. And I think that Scott needs to hire you to do all his advertising because that sponsor spot was one of the best I've seen in a long time lol. Keep up the great work!
Hah! Thanks S! I needed to have a bit of fun in all that contemplation:)
Absolutely beautiful results and message!
Thank you CC!
@@52Miniatures thank you for sharing your art! Honestly, the finished product blew me away! Especially considering the context of not feeling inspired to be creative. The colour pallet and detail are amazing.
@@canuckchuck8836 Taking a humble bow :)
Beautiful work, Alex!
Thank you Justin!
Hope you are getting better! I feel you, I'm in a kind of slump ever since the last project I did and recent events aren't exactly helping. Thank you for the video and keep up the good work :)
This was an incredible video. The cinematography, the narration, the paint! Well done all around!
Beautiful work, very inspirational and love the more muted colours that you chose. I loved the promotional video! I find that watching your videos with a nicely crafted coffee in a company chair is the most rewarding and re,axing way to spend the evening. Thank you so much for this great video.
Thanks Andy!
Beautiful paint job. It's nice to see an artistic, non-OSL approach.
Thank Mal! Yeah, It felt right to not try and "ruin" the lovely sculpt with effects and that.
Beautiful work sir!
Thank you kindly!
Your style of video is my absolute favourite. So well put together and an absolute pleasure to watch. Hope you get into a better place soon too.
Thank you Tobias, I appreciate it. Truly.
