    Holy crap no wonder my lower to mid traps are so huge, I thought I was doing lats.

    • @nijowe93
      @nijowe93 8 років тому +7

      well, you are exercising your lats, you simply can't do the movement without engaging your lats, it's not possible.

    • @nijowe93
      @nijowe93 8 років тому +4

      Well, that is just wrong, they are one of the prime movers. Go to any physiology site or textbook, and they will tell you that the lats are a prime mover for shoulder extension. What are you doing in a bent over row? shoulder extension and elbow flexion.
      And yes, if you are contracting your chest, you are exercising your chest. Is it the purpose of the movement? probably not. Are bent over rows a great lat exercise? Yes, it is a great lat exercise, but it's far from the only muscle working.

    • @nijowe93
      @nijowe93 8 років тому +7

      You seem to misunderstand the fact that you simply cannot perform this movement without using your lats as a prime mover, it's physically impossible. And what the exercise is intended for depends on the trainee, not the exercise.
      Also the fact that this movement works your lats through a full range of motion with a respectable load means that it is a great exercise for both lat strength and size.

    • @everburning8127
      @everburning8127 8 років тому +1

      What I've learned is that if I want lats, the arm has to extend with a supinated grip, as in a chin-up. This exercise sucks for lat hypertophy.

    • @nijowe93
      @nijowe93 8 років тому +1

      Ever Burning Well, that isn't really the question at hand, the question at hand was if the bent over row is a good lat builder. I would agree that a supinated grip would probably be better for lat involvement, it doesn't really change that fact that your lats play a major role in a pronated bent over row.
      The lat is inserted in the humerus, and the humerus moves through roughly the same range of motion no matter what how your forearm is oriented.
      Similar amounts of work, similar amounts of hypertrophy.

    • @mikegroos2025
      @mikegroos2025 8 років тому +8

      pendlay row is pulling the bar explosively of the floor and letting it drop back down. Its more for strength building, since it neglects the eccentric

    • @beefwellington6868

      Each Pendlay row rep is pulled from the floor. A lot of olympic lifters do it to train the starting position tightness.

      I've never seen any big guy doing bent over row bent over 90 degrees. Now that i've hit 275 i can see why. The lower back simply does not recover quickly enough if you do that at a certain weight. If you want to be parallel at that level, just do pendlays.

I could care less if it's his true accent. You clearly missed the part where my grievance was with the change, not the accent itself.

    what hes suggesting is the most stupid mistake that one can ever make. if he just says thats just one way of training, i wouldnt disagree but well known back goat Dorian Yates actually executes his barbell row in a position that this guy calls a mistake. Sometimes ppl neglect on strength or tensions naturally generated by heavy weights when it comes to muscle growth.
    there are plenty of exercises that can provide you with better squeeze or pumps than barbell rows if thats what you are after. However, the whole purpose of using barbells or the most advantage that you can gain from training with barbells is to handle heavier weights and put more tension on your muscles. Plus by lifting weights that you feel heavy, it does help build muscles by signaling to your brain and nerve systems.
    Ronnie always joke about anybody wants to lift heavy but noone wants to lift as heavy as him. Although it sounds nothing more than Ronnie's lame lines, it actually does have scientific points in it.
    theres no way of training wrong i personally believe as long as one doesnt get hurt.
    it just has pros and cons
