- Finally! It was my free evening to go sea fishing and the wind, tide and weather were looking favourable for a ray fishing session at Herne Bay on the North Kent coast. The high tide was an hour into darkness so I planned on fishing up and over the high until the fishing died off. I was looking forward to this session and excited to change my run of bad luck and blank sessions. I setup my gear confident that I was going to catch and a lot of other fishermen must of had the same feeling as the whole of Kings Hall area was busy with people trying the same as me.... Trying to catch a Ray. I can definitely say I walked away from the beach happy that my luck had finally changed and hopefully although the fishing is still slow, hopefully it was getting better.

It all depends on what you want to fish for but I would definitely be putting some effort into Reculver and minnis Bay soon to target smoothhounds👍

Always nice to catch anything, much better to catch the target though, so can class that as a good session👍🏻

Great video Greg. See the fishing has started to improve. I fished Hythe Ranges yesterday and had plenty of nice whiting and dogfish. Spring is around the corner

Great video as always! Cheers mate! I grew up in Beltinge, and that beach was my stomping ground for most of my childhood. I haven't been back for 27 years so watching this was a real memory jogger. My Dad and I used to fish along Bishopstone regularly but pretty much only ever caught whiting, pouting, rockling, eels and dabs...it was fun though. One time a dead Right Whale washed up on the beach down there....do you remember at all? Must have been 30 years or so ago now....Any way, thanks again and good luck on the rest of your adventures!
I dont remember that at all🤔 but then again I would have only been 10 and worried about playing football every second of the day🤦😂 I never find this arra that productive but others do get some good catches. Cheers for watching Lee👍👍👍

Greg, have you not thought about using a hair rig with a circle hook when targeting rays to stop them deep hooking? I use it to great success with rays. Keep up the good work🎣👍
I get a little worried of losing the smaller rays because they sit there nibbling and I worry ill tighten too early🤦 I might give it a go next time
I use a running up & over to all them to take the bait into the mouths before setting the hook
And the reason I only take one rod is that is all I need, and I can get into Maccy Dee's before you two!!
I supposes its less disappointing blanking with just 1 rod instead of two😂😂😂😂
Followed you fellas for a while now. Always good banter, genuine friendship and shows a nice social side to the fishing. Lots of things to learn too. I’m still very new to shore fishing, any tips on the best time of year for the Thornies.
Thanks for commenting Peter👍 it all depends on where you are in UK for the thornies but in Kent they can now be caught all year round. Although I would say the next 12 weeks is gonna be the best time and greatest chance of catching a few
Think about a vlog on the herne bay outer marina wall. Visited with the girlfriend couple of years back and a chap was pulling a good few out on nothing more than mackerel at 70 or so yards, taking one for dinner… bit busy with tourists in the day though.
Patient's is a virtue well done mate you got your target species and we'll done mark 4 whitening is ok kept you interested

Me and my dad went fishing the night after you went and I got my first ray and Dad got 3 rays we were at reculver tower and we walk up the hill and the fist stairs we went down on too the beach and we fish the close rock arm going out to sea and we were near the wood that is on the beach.
We had the rig pulley penal rig and we went for 3 hours and we got a total of 3 rays and it is good you got a ray I would recommend revolver as your next spot to fish it would be amazing to see it as a video if you make it a video.
Well done on your first Ray👍 Friday was a slightly better tide for Ray's and I do like Reculver. I was going to do it this week but im fishing a low tide venue and unless it's a big spring tide Reculver doesn't fish that well. I might do it in a couple of weeks time👍👍

I've never had much luck with sandeels around the North Kent coast, I don't know why🤔🤔

Hi Simon, not at all, unless you obviously completely cover the bait . I always like to keep it even and cover it enough so that there aren't large exposed bits for crabs to rip apart3
Hi Greg you should of come up the beach to the sailing club id of made you a coffee i had 2 skate that aft/ eve one 5 lb and one of 6lb14 oz by the way your he was a she ... have to sort out a day fishing and another day up the field

what tip light is Mark using?
I think Mark is using the rig shark bite detection tip lights. They flash red when you get a bite but they also flash red when there is a wave , wind or a mosquito lands on your rod🤦😂
