Cheers Kevin! It's the challenge for me. Tell me there's a beach that always produces, and one that never does and I'll probably pick the blank venue 9/10 just to prove a point...some would call it being stubborn 🤣
Fantastic video, you don't need to apologise for the weather, that's beyond our control, it doesn't matter if you catch our not, it's the taking part and the enjoyment you get out of fishing, looking forward to the next part , thanks for this 🙂
If only I could control the weather though 🤔😅 to be honest I was expecting the audio quality to be much worse, but it's scrubbed up quite well I think.
Great video yet so sad to see the corrosion of the cliffs..wow the tide certainly sneeks up on you as well, could be dangerous night time by yourself. Cant wait for day 2.
It's only dangerous if you're oblivious to it mate. I'm conscious to try and raise awareness on my videos as it's so easy for kids/inexperienced folk to watch UA-cam, grab a cheap rod combo, and end up in trouble.
Respect to you for giving it a shot.🫣🫡 Shame not many fish turned up, but it must be impossible to foresee conditions.🥺 If you had fished the ledges, did the estate manager want you to sign a disclaimer?😂 I wonder if Imax make a bulletproof fishing jacket.?🤔🤣 Hope you had a better 2nd day.🤞 I look forward to the video.🫣 Thanks for sharing.👍 Take care and stay safe.😷🙊
I mean they have already announced the dates for next year's comp, so foreseeing the conditions is nigh on impossible. They have extended the boundaries in to the river in the case of severe conditions but that was a bit unnecessary this year.
Cheers mate ... enjoyed the video great content, as I mentioned before circumstances at home make it difficult to get out so your videos are very much appreciated, thanks mate stay safe 👍🎣🎣
Not fished the Open since 2005 I blanked both days , but had a fantastic time down there . Hope to get back one day . Thoroughly enjoyed watching and bad luck. Tight lines
I've fished it once and had a bad weekend. Flattie bash was mayhem, Saturday I fished a busy mark and spent the day sorting crossed lines, then food poisoning saw me back home about 4am Sunday 🤢 I vowed never to fish it again, but I quite enjoyed it this year, so maybe I'll be back. Its an expensive weekend though especially when the conditions aren't ideal
Thanks Mick. Yeah I had a bit of a play with it, and works quite well to do talking bits too. Think I'll try and come up with something a bit more permanent, it might save me carrying a tripod on long walks
Now then mate you ok, cheers for the watch i enjoyed it as the uze. Unlucky not weighing in ,but it was tuff conditions with the tide pull everyone has told me. Spot on about watching ya surroundings on the beach ,great for the beginners. All the best from GRIMSBY.
Cheers Carl! I hope plenty folk will watch this in years to come when preparing to take part themselves, so felt I needed to mention the cliffs. It could be easy for those without the knowledge to assume they're as safe as rock cliffs, but they're far from it
Cheers Christian, I headed to Spurn for the Sunday, videos live at 1830 👍🏼 glad I did too, as I was walking back the breakers at Easington looked just as bad as Saturday if not worse!
Nice try. Was a hard weekends fishing. Fished Cowden on the Thurs and could belive how much cliff has been washed off. Funny game fishing, but it keeps drawing us back for another go.
That's the biggest issue with that stretch of coast it changes week to week. Its impossible to find a favourite spot, that spot might not exist next time you can get out.
God loves a tryer only 30 weighted in really hard going , I’ve fished that comp many years ago when used to run it out of Teddy’s club at Withernsea and only had small pin whiting
We ended up at Hornsea.. Kilnsea wash chocker block at 4 am.. Tried fraisthorpe Sunday but 200 yard breaks plus surfers. And thats beyond my capabilities.. Saw you in the hall. Wanted to pop over and say hello.. But you'd gone when id gote pint.. Maybe next time but ye very hard going and believe all the fish came from spurn. Tight lines bud 🎣🎣
I was debating Friasthorpe for the Sunday, glad I didn't go for it, from the sounds of it would have been a waste of my time too. Yeah I kept bobbing about at the awards, was split between waiting for the actual results and just getting a pint. Each time I thought I'd leave I'd get talking to someone and decide to stay a bit longer haha
Nice video, amazing speed on the tides I thought the Bristol Channel was fast but it’s got nothing on that, people are starting to catch fish here now ,the welsh side any way cheers for the video
Yeah Andrew, those northerly swells really created a current. On big tides it can have a bit of pull. But these were small tides, I've never seen pull like that on the east coast. I've been watching a few of the guys down that way and does seem to be picking up. Think I've burnt all my brownie points for now. But the next trip, in a couple weeks maybe, could well be the channel 👍🏼
Conditions definitely looked tough going. Fair play for sticking it out. Not my sort of coastline to be fishing. As for that 'Estate manager' there's only Roe round there and they won't be on cliff tops in day time and any stalker worth his salt wouldn't be shooting out over cliffs anyway.
It's definitely not the sort of conditions you'd choose to fish in that's for sure. As the shoot, I agree mate. It's flat as a pancake around there, so anyone not shooting from a seat shouldn't be letting a shot off. But that being said I had gone round a fence and through some brush, so he was well within my right just to tell me to get the f off private property. He was right with me so I was right by him. Didn't look like i could get near any ledges there anyway 😅
Great content as ever bringing back memories of fishing the matches. Quick question regarding the line/braid on the spool have you found filling the line to the underside of the lip of the spool help with casting. I know carp fishing at distance we have the line just below the chamfer of the lip of the spool. I know braid can be a pain with wind knots etc and been advised to dampen the line down before casting.
Cheers buddy! I'll be honest mate, I just chuck a 300m spool on and where it comes to is where it stops 😅 I use Berkley Whiplash and have never had an issue with windknots nor do I damper the line before use. I've heard people say that over filling a spool can create problems. And I've seen plenty of folk having warmup casts to wet and bed the line before going for the big send. I've just never felt the need.
I couldn't believe it when I checked magic seaweed, 'surely not' I thought 😅 Jacks doing good thanks mate. Behaved well for Sarah while I was away, but had his second jabs this week, so he's been a bit unsettled 😕 hopefully he's over it and back to his usual self soon
We fished Easington day 1 and had same problem. Could not hold bottom on 7oz fixed. Also had a big gulley between high water mark and surf. Lost 90 minutes on day 1. 2 hours on day 2 at Hornsea.
Thanks Jessica! We do, but nowhere near the level that you guys use. Unfortunately we just don't have the pelagics that you guys do. So we have surface lures such as 130mm patchinko lures, and if you catch a 5kg bass on one of those, that's the fish of dreams 😅
@@theawfulangler . I found when I was fishing chesil beach at night. I used a glow stick just above the bait. It seems to work really well. Can't wait to get back to the UK. Can't beat cod haddock Pollock. Cod beats every fish we have in Australia.
Do you really think so? I prefer whiting over cod. They don't grow nearly as big, but make great fish fingers! I can't wait to get back to Australia, maybe we could do a swap 🤣
@@theawfulangler sounds awesome. I'm coming to the UK soon. I suppose you got awesome plaice. Flounder. Talbot. Halibut. Sole. And they taste amazing to. Very very tough conditions mate I fished the weekend before with the same problem I gave up after an hour it was very frustrating , do you think you should go back to what we thought we're dodgy crisps ......?? Maybe the scent would bring in that allusive COD 😂
Maybe keeping the crisps to myself is what's wrong. Maybe next time I need to add a couple of the right flavour to the wrap...a bit like a crisp sandwich
@@theawfulangler What a fantastic idea mate , just think you could contact walkers for bottles of flavouring and secretly add them to pre-made frozen baits and distribute them to all the angling shops to make your fortune !!! If you need help I'm available to help pack the frozen baits into boxes ... 😂
Now there's an idea. You never know by the time I can get walkers to agree to the commercials, Jack might be old enough to wrap and pack the baits I'll just count the money
😂🤣😆😁 good point ...maybe you could approach a smaller crisp producer just to get the business going ?? Not sure who is the dafter me or you 😂 love your sense of humour , if you're fishing next week good luck and tight lines back to work for me I'm afraid 👍
Yeah I'm at work this week too. I'd like to sneak a session in next weekend, but it's the last weekend of the 6nations so it's an all day job down at the rugby club. I'll see what mood she's in 😉🤣
Nice one for having a go,, only 30 people caught out of 2000s, that's hard going. I tip my cap to you mate for your dedication 👍👍
Cheers Mel! Yeah there was plenty of talk of people quitting on day 2 before it even begun. Its the challenge that gets me going
Brilliant video...Great to see a match....Keep up the good work and tight lines
