- Please please help me become a better boat fisherman. Suggestions and useful tips and information will be very welcome so please comment away!
I have been out on my SIB before but only a handful of times with limited success. This trip was the first in over a year with my new engine and a few modifications. We headed out of Herne Bay for a spot of fishing trying both drifting and at anchor. There wasn't a great deal caught but this is the start of a long learning curve and Im set on mastering my water craft.

Nice to see you fishing from a Sib, enjoyed watching and well put together, I have a Sib and like you I am a complete novice so have a lot to learn about what tackle baits and best way to approach it. Will be following you on your new adventure.
Thanks Robert👍 atm I still very much a shore based angler but I'm sure as I get to grips with the sib that will change
Nice video. Like someone else mentioned, Rhys (Fish Hunter) has a lot of sib videos, there's also a group of them he goes out with. I would, for safety find at least one other sib owner to buddy up with as anything does or can happen when you're on your own and that sea doesn't give second chances. I've got a 22' ocean boat with a 150 Yamaha on the back and a 9.9 Honda kicker. Full safety gear, VHF radio as well as CB and none of us here in our port go out by ourselves (apart from the know it all's). always check with the Coast Guard on weather conditions and forecast before you leave. They will let you know if it's safe or not to venture out. Even then, the weather can change on a dime. It happened to a few of us last year when we were salmon fishing 10 miles off. Our port entrance faces due south and southerly winds make it dicey coming in as it's a narrow bar crossing. Anyway, the forecast was for a light south wester so a 20 minute trip out to the salmon grounds was an easy 20 mph blast. After an hour or so, the slight southerly turned really nasty and the Coast Guard were warning all boats to proceed in. Well, a 20 minute trip out , turned into a 2.1/2 hour white water trip back. A few boats got into trouble and had to be towed in. Once back at our berth I vowed never to go out on the Pacific ocean again in a southerly or, even if there's the possibility of one. So, better to be safe than stupid, there's always another day to go out, it's not as if you live 100's of miles from the sea.
Exactly! I'm over cautious anyway and won't be venturing out if the weather is not right and if there is doubt in the forecast then I'll leave it.
I've found that Oban on the water is an excellent channel for sib fishing and have watched some of his. I'd like to watch more vids but haven't got the time 🤦♂️😂
Nice vid on the sib Greg, adds another bit of variation to your channel . Great stuff . 👍🎣
Cheers wayne👍. Im definitely trying to add a little more and have other stuff in the pipeline
just been trying to find you on facebook i have just come back from garrison near tesco just using 15lb line and a trace with a fresh water spinner cracked about 7 bass..told you before real deep water..and had to leave as had downed 2 bottles of red and was so warm today ,,, great spot mate ..and i do not eat fish..im a vagitarian
I'll have to get down there! It does sound good. We'll done on the bass
Like the data you give at the end, sea temperature would be a useful addition. 👍
Ok👍 ill add that in. Please remind me if I don't J. W🤦♂️😂
I like using a full squid on a pennal no need to elastic them on but on a boat the hounds and the rays will take squid.
You will get used to the boat and the tide movement but a decent plotter/ fish finder makes life alot better
U now got your 1st subscriber
I have the garmin striker 4 plus which will be mounted and ready to go this week. Do you ever elastic on the boat Baggers?
@@gsp not really Greg but then unless I have fresh caught macky I will only use squid or if going for bream squid strips
When you pull up anchor to save the rope rubbing on boat put an old car matt in place saves ware and tare
Hello, I have owned a Sib for 8 yrs now, i still learn something new every time i go out, from what i see in the Vid you already have a good base knowledge,
just tweak your ideas to suit yourself, as for rigs, i use running ledgers, drop down rigs, boom rigs and pulley rigs.
it also makes sense if you can go out with another Sib owner, the offer is there if you want it,
Cheers Thomas I might take you up on that offer👍 I'm always happy to fish with others
@@gsp any time Greg, also when drift fishing i use a sea anchor, with flat leads....when anchored properly i use fixed grip leads
and uptide fishing method, any of those rigs mentioned seem to do well,
Cheers thomas👍. I have a sea anchor on order and can't wait to give it a try
@@gsp it will add a whole new aspect to your fishing....just sit in the Sib covering more area.
@@gsp i do have rules to my Sib fishing that i i have never broken....fishing in a Sib is different from a fun day out with the family
i have equally not launched as having launched....i will never launch if i see white horses....i will also come back in if i see the slightest change
in the weather and sea state...no matter how well we are catching fish ( much to the disappointment of my mate )
having a fun day out however is different the rougher the sea the better....these type of boats are very robust...i have put mine thru hell yrs ago
i have let one tube down on purpose...filled it level with sea water also....they still float...you are not a foolish person...make your set of rules...
and get out there and enjoy it.
Well done
At least you caught
But then u went RACING IN 🤣😂🤣😂
I didn't see Yr racing stripes on your trailer 😕
Tight lines
Cheers Nigel 🍻
Lmao😂😂😂 that is right! At least we caught but hopefully it'll get better and better 🤞
Great video fella 🌊🎣🐟😎👍🏻
Thanks Darrel👍 cheers👍🐟🐟
Great video, I'm looking at getting a kayak or a sib can't wait to get out on the water
It is sooo good. A really sense of freedom and what you see sometimes is amazing
@@gsp yeah I can Imagine, I love watching your videos I've not long got back into sea fishing after 10 years of fresh water fishing, I pump my own bait down Dymchurch and make my own rigs so i decided to start a youtube channel just to see how it goes hope to have as many subs as you one day lol. don't know if you sub him but Fish Hunter UK does quite a bit of SIB fishing his video's are full of info 👍
I fished Dymchurch last night down to low water until the wind picked up. A few doggies and a couple of smooth hound pups.
Hi Greg if you look on navionics at grenham Bay there's a deep hole there it's about 50ft I had some good hounds out of it last week on my sib
Thanks for the tip👍👍 thanks very much👍👍 were they on crab?
@@gsp yer that was all on crab 🦀. And like you I'm new to sib fishing if you try that hole fish the left of it ,
@@tonyburke2663 cheers tony thanks for the advice 👍
Where did you launch from for grenham Bay? @Tony Burke
@@gsp I went from outside the minis cafe you can park more or less at the top of the ramp there. But it's a bit of a walk at low tide to the waters edge
Ello. Greetings from sunny Dartford. Can you tell me a bit about your boat - how long, how big engine, what floor type? Am just looking at buying one. Already have a 2.5hp four stroke, want the boat to go with it.
I have a 3m talamex which I had original paired with a 5hp Honda four stroke but found it too slow so I upgraded it to a 9.9hp suzuki which is far better. If your going to be going far then 2.5hp won't cut it. I have an inflatable floor but wish now that it was aluminium.
nice one 🐟🐟🐟
Thanks Graham 👍
Went to herne Bay Thursday as it was my birthday and caught nothing apart from 2 crabs
Is this a euphemism 🤦♂️😂
Would love to go fishing with you one weekend
Fish the same hooks and bait size you would use from the beach then tailor things to your catch drifting speed varies locally 1 knot and under for bottom bait any speed with artificial faster is good you can always retrieve to up the speed
Tight lines
Calshot cat
Cheers Aiden that is very helpful and thanks for watching. Hopefully the weather will fall right the next time I fish so I can get out again🤞
Good, but I have not got sea legs!🤢 I would just leave a chum trail🥕🐟🍅
😂😂 I was bad when I first started going on boats but now I'm getting better
