That's what I love about Neil Sedaka. His music is so uplifting. Loved this song. But then again, I love everything that Neil writes and sings. He's the best in the business. God Bless him!
My Mommy ( yes we called her that) bought this album for my older brother ( I was nine , he was 11 ) and me. We also got the Boston debut album at the same time. HUGE respect to both, especially when I can almost remember them pretty accurately . Put a kid back then with some records and see what sticks. Wow ! Nice memories.
Just heard this 1976 song for the first time in my life. (And--at age 57 & a lifelong resident of Toronto, Canada--I have been hearing Neil Sedaka songs since the mid-1970s!)
In my opinion this song (and "That's Where the Music Takes Me";which also was a song that Neil first wrote in the 1970s) should have been as mega/weel-known as "Laughter In The Rain" & his other successes in the1970s......
Such a great ditty...and ive been trying to live my path that way..all these years.. Never easy but always worth it...life is a celebration..dont waste your invitation!!!!!
His attitude and vibe are the exact same today - do you know how incredible that is. To NOT have life "erode" what used to be our childhood and young adult persona's? Maybe it's not Neil's Top Ten GREATEST songs. But it was a lot about the heart - and The Man inside. I love the fact Neil still has his spry and impish self - half of Neil's lyric's are jokes wrapped in jokes wrapped in jokes.
I'm just gonna post it here so we can sing along with Neil Whenever the day is bringing you down And nothing's going your way Just turn it around Don't let the world upset you Get depressed and what doesn't get you You've got a chance to make it Reach right out and take it Leave your worries behind You gotta make your own sunshine You gotta make your own sunshine If nothing in life is turning you on And everyone of your friends All seem to be gone Just start yourself a hummin' Remember that the good times are coming Life is a celebration Don't waste your invitation Hang those tears on the line You gotta make your own sunshine You gotta make your own sunshine When you're feeling down You gotta aim high Don't stare at the ground Reach for the sky... reach for the sky! Just keep yourself up Don't ever complain Before you walk in the sun You gotta laugh in the rain Just get your act together Be readdy for who and whatever Life is a smile so find it Put your face behind it Get it straigh in your mind You gotta make your own sunshine You gotta make your own sunshine Just get your act together Be readdy for who and whatever Life is a smile so find it Put your face behind it Get it straigh in your mind You gotta make your own sunshine You gotta make your own sunshine You gotta make your own sunshine
Great song for sure. I remember covering this track in the 70s with a wonderful girl singer from my hometown in the UK. I struggled with the chords at first lol, but when we finally sorted it out it was much loved by our audiances. I miss those times, and most of all my lovely duo partner.
But over time, don't the happy memories of hearing the song since 1976 wash away the fear from the bad time? Doesn't the song hopefully make you happy now?
So happy you posted this. I dont have the album anymore and that song just sorted me out in a way that only it can! Good ol bit o Neil Sedaka....ya cant go wrong! 😍🎶
I used to use this song in my classroom in the mid 70s. The kids loved it.
So uplifting! This song can help you make it through some tough days! Love it!

Yes indeed!
Neil knew it was all about attitude, perseverance, humor - plus
his work ethic (800 songs) propelled those ideals.
.
Has he really written 800 songs. I did know he wrote a lot of hit songs in the early sixties.

Whenever the day is bringing you down
And nothing's going your way
Just turn it around
Don't let the world upset you
Get depressed and what doesn't get you
You've got a chance to make it
Reach right out and take it
Leave your worries behind
You gotta make your own sunshine
You gotta make your own sunshine
If nothing in life is turning you on
And everyone of your friends
All seem to be gone
Just start yourself a hummin'
Remember that the good times are coming
Life is a celebration
Don't waste your invitation
Hang those tears on the line
You gotta make your own sunshine
You gotta make your own sunshine
When you're feeling down
You gotta aim high
Don't stare at the ground
Reach for the sky... reach for the sky!
Just keep yourself up
Don't ever complain
Before you walk in the sun
You gotta laugh in the rain
Just get your act together
Be readdy for who and whatever
Life is a smile so find it
Put your face behind it
Get it straigh in your mind
You gotta make your own sunshine
You gotta make your own sunshine
Just get your act together
Be readdy for who and whatever
Life is a smile so find it
Put your face behind it
Get it straigh in your mind
You gotta make your own sunshine
You gotta make your own sunshine
You gotta make your own sunshine
One of my all time favorite songs.
@David Osterbergyou may be thinking of the martial arts actor, that's not me but I do work in movies.

Great song!
Splendid!
i had a breakdown in 76 - fear of failing my O levels and disappointing narcissist parents. This song saved me - it's a painful listen
But over time, don't the happy memories of hearing the song since 1976 wash away the fear from the bad time?
Doesn't the song hopefully make you happy now?
@@67marlins it just makes me cry, relief I suppose 😅 I'm still here, I made it x
Thanks so much for your kind words
😊A brill song but never reached the top 40 charts in 1976.😢
