Powerful music from great musicians. I'm glad someone has requested this band. They are top-notch and always deliver.
I love them! Nancy loves them! Very excited to go down that rabbit hole- together!
Two weeks from now I’m gonna see them live. Can’t wait 🎉

Hey Bill. Yes, Canadian, and yes power metal. Formed in Victoria BC in 2007 by lead singer Brittney Slayes (Hayes) and her partner ,drummer Scott Buchanan. Guitarist Grant Truesdell does the harsh vocals. Guitarist Andrew Kingsley does some clean vocals in other songs. Bassist seen here is Nikko Whitworth, their 4th bassist ,who left in 2018, 5th and current bassist is Nick Miller.
Good/bad news for you, lol, you have found another concept album, lol. The song is the 1st track on the 4th album Apex. The story within continues on the 5th album, Abyss. Phantoma is the 6th album, the one that came out last year, also is a concept album but a new story. An immortal is awakened from its sleep in a mountain home/prison after a couple thousand years. Cursed to do the bidding for whomever wakes him up. Brittney did a 3 part video series on Napalm records channel, a track by track explanation of the story. (UNLEASH THE ARCHERS - Apex Track-By-Track (Part 1), (Part 2), and (Part 3)).
So, a couple years ago, Brittney gets a call from Arjen Lucassen. He wants to know if she could fill in ,on the 2023 Ayreon live show, for another female singer who couldn't make it. After she said yes, he told her , btw we would like you to sing Floor Jansen's parts. No pressure, lol. (Floor was on maternity break), Spoiler, she killed it.
For more, check out "Tonight We Ride", "Time Stands Still" ,"Abyss", "Ten Thousand Against One", and "Ghosts in the Mist".
Thank you for all such things, my brother! I'd say starting on the first track is very good news indeed! Perhaps the next song would be track 2, don't you think? AND she can nail Floor's part in Ayreon! Killer!! 🤘❤️🤘
@@BemusingBill If you are going to do each track on the album for the story, track # 2 on Apex is "Shadow Guide".
I saw them live in Lawrence, KS a few months ago. I thought they were awesome the first time I heard them here on UA-cam. I hadn't been to see a live show of what I call a major band since Killswitch Engage a few years before. I took my daughter because she likes metal music. We got there early, and I was surprised there weren't many people around yet. We went to get something to eat, and came back. The show ended up with a decent amount of people, but less than I'd expected. They missed out. These guys are all exceptional musicians, and their sound was great. We loved every minute of it. What's even better is that I play in a cover band, and my band had played this same venue a few weeks earlier. It's crazy that we were on the same stage as a band that great. I hope these guys continue to gain popularity. They're all great musicians as I said, with the lead vocalist Brittney having a mind blowing voice. They deserve bigger and better things. Get out to see them if you can.
@fftofgp I'm going to put it out there that I think part of the problem might be that Napalm isn't keeping up with tour dates? Like where was the promotional stuff happening?
@@rwxstudio7173 That's highly possible. I think I found out about the show from watching one of their videos on UA-cam. I knew they had played a show close to me before, so I looked at the tour dates they had posted below the video and found they would be close again. I wouldn't have noticed had I not been looking on purpose. I hope they start promoting more. It was great to see them in such an intimate setting, but they definitely should be a bigger band.
Hi Bill, I'm not John, but I also requested this song 11 months ago. I am glad you finally reacted to it, but given your familial situation, it's great to have your reaction at all. This band is so criminally underrated and deserves way more appreciation than they sadly really get. It's funny you drew a comparison to Helloween. My words, as I recommended this song to a friend: Imagine Helloween, but on steroids! Thanks for your reaction, hope to to see more UTA here in the future...
With love from Germany, Prog O'Holic
Btw, Germany's finest, Electric Callboy, released a great new song 4 days ago. Buckle up for another fun ride...
My dear friend and fellow prog monster, danke! Yes, for sure, there will be much more UTA right here. I have that EC song planned for filming today and I'm going to dedicate it to you. Keep rocking, brother! Love from NY 🤘❤️🤘
"Tonight We Ride" by Unleash The Archers is a good next step.
Thank you for the recommendation, my friend! 🤘❤️🤘
The musicianship alone was beyond amazing. I'm on the fence about her vocals. I know this is metal, but I would love to hear something where she isn't yelling the entire song. This was enough to keep my interest until the next reaction. As always, Bill, my brotha, much love and light to you and my sista, Nancy.
After just reading a comment that she filled in for Floor in Aryeon's live shows while Floor was on maternity leave and I quote, "she nailed it". I would say she's worth more attention! Love and light sista!
Check out Brittney and Fang doing Brindisi or UTA doing Northwest Passage
Yes, it's a concept album. And a great one.
This was the first song of it.
And not a bad song on it. !!
Really happy it's that it's the first track. That makes things much easier going forward! Thank you, my friend! 🤘❤️🤘
I have the same signed Godsmack poster on my wall.
That's too cool! 🤘❤️🤘
Something you need to know about the UTA albums. They don't just put random songs together like most artists do. Every album is a chapter in an overarching story and every song a part of that story, told in the order they were released.
Whitechapel Hymns in dissonance reaction recommendation
🤘❤️🤘
You were around the mark with the influences of the band, Bill. Iron Maiden is a favorite of guitarists Andrew and Grant and Britney loves Queensrÿche. You missed Angra and Rhapsody of Fire. The albums of UTA, like Rhapsody, are concept albums and sometimes the story continues over more than one album. Stick with Apex and Abyss, the album this song is from and the next for a little while. Phantoma, the newest, is fine but the production lacks sizzle. Great stuff further back, too.
As I know you love guitar stuff, here's a short video with Andrew and Grant playing their favorite riffs.

Thank you for that link! I'm going to include that in the next UTA video I do! The reason I missed Angra and Rhapsody of Fire is because I'm not familiar with them. But yeah, Maiden, Priest, 'Ryche, Helloween, etc. Great stuff! Really glad this is the first track on the album. Makes it a no-brainer on the next one! 🤘❤️🤘
@@BemusingBill Try to find time to look into Angra and Rhapsody. They're two of the best bands of all time. Rhapsody is THE best in my book. Think of them as the bands DragonForce wanted to be when they grew up 😁😁😉 Really high level progpower stuff.
