    I was able to do this as a 5'1, 115-pound girl. Biggest tips:
    1. Hold the brick as high up on your chest as possible
    2. The more air in your lungs the more you float so don't be afraid to take deep breaths
    3. Swim as fast as you can without tiring out before reaching the brick so you have more time to get back
    4. If you're not the fastest swimmer, freestyle there and scissor kick back.
    5. Breathe normally and stay relaxed. You will be tired afterward but it's only 1:20 long and you got this :D

    I had my first practice today and everything was going great, I could swim all the laps and tread water for 2 mins, I've never been a great swimmer and have little experience especially with controlling my breathing. I got to the brick dive and could locate it well, but when I come out of the water and blow the water out of my nose I start to sink immediately and I can't keep the brick out of the water, I try and lean back more but my head sinks and I panic, I'm super scared for my test in a couple of weeks.

    I had my 20 pounds brick exam back in March. I did my lifeguard guard in a week ( intensive )
    Some people in my class were able to do the eggbeater and pull up the brick with 1 arm and use the other to paddle.
    The others were putting the brick on their chest...I tried anything from putting the brick on my chest. pulling it up with my arm.
    Nothing was working...Literally. Plus, we haven't so much time to practice the brick.
    Turns out that I failed the test on the exam day.
    ( yeah but hold on for the happy ending )
    BUT
    My instructor had faith in me. He knew my potential so he gave me 1 more week to practice and try the brick again.
    During this week, I found out that everyone has their own techniques and mines was to put the brick on my waist and be as flat as possible. THAT SIMPLE. I was pressuring myself to be like the others which is completely unrealistic because our bodies are differents.
    On the day of exam part #2, I successfully passed the test. Effortlessly. Your videos inspire me to keep trying! Thanks a lot, Adam

    Hey man, your content has been super helpful in my training! I have a question though. I've been trying out the brick dive with a 12lb shot put but I find that even fully on my back it pulls me straight to the bottom. I can only kick about 7 yards with it until I go under. I'm a tall and in shape dude so I have no clue why its so hard for me. Any ideas?

    • @LifeofAdam
      @LifeofAdam  2 роки тому +6

      I recommend doing the breaststroke kick instead of flutter kicking on your back because you can honestly use each glide/kick to boost yourself forward and up. (which will keep you above the surface longer and looks better) I recommend holding the brick or shotput like a dumbbell in the center of ur chest like a squeeze press, and try to get ur mind muscle connection in your fore arms and shoulders to help support ur weight. Don't be afraid to go back and forth between flutter kicks and breaststroke kick, whatever gets the job done. Hope that helps, lmk how it goes.

    So 10 lbs is super easy but 20 not so much. I am very light (96 pounds). I find the 10 pound super easy but the 20 pound is much more difficult. I have not been able to successfully even get to the surface I find it hard to grip (small hands) then by the time I’ve gripped it my body has risen and I can’t push off enough to surface. What can I do to overcome this.

    • @LifeofAdam
      @LifeofAdam  Рік тому +1

      Before you grab the brick on the bottom, exhale thru your nose to sink and get ur feet planted on the bottom. Then grab the brick and do a light push off. In order to get the surface, Bec u are light, you want to experiment with a combination of fast breaststroke kick and flutter kicks to get up. Once ur up you can lay on your back and float a little easier. I think faster flutter kicks will help you. Then do a bicycle kick when kicking on your back to the start holding the brick on your chest. It’s going to be tough, but finding the technique that works for you is the best short term solution. Longer term would be so workout and get some lean muscle mass to weigh a little more.

      10 feet is reasonable depth.. For me my ears always pop when I go down head first.. so I recommend trying feet first and exhaling out of your nose. If the pool was 12-14 feet, ears are def popping no matter what. But 10 they might not

      One thing you can do is equalize, where you hold your nose and swallow or blow into your ears and they won’t pop. I dived and my ears just don’t pop anymore it’s so useful.

    Do you have any specific tips for locating the brick? When they place it in the water are you not allowed to watch or are you able to see where they put it?

    • @LifeofAdam
      @LifeofAdam  2 роки тому +3

      I recommend trying to locate it before going underwater, by swimming above it and looking through the surface of the water. Also what happens is when a person goes and finishes the brick dive, they just hand the instructor the brick when they are done and it gets thrown back in right infront of everyone. It’s very reasonable

    i’ve never done a headfirst dive so idk how i’d do it but if i do a feet first dive what are some tips u have?

    • @LifeofAdam
      @LifeofAdam  2 роки тому +5

      For the brick dive test, u do a surface dive. A surface dive is not when ur out of the water diving into the pool like a normal dive. It’s when u are treading in the water, and u push urself under (either head first or feet first, to get to the bottom retrieve the brick)

    • @thefriendlyteenager726
      @thefriendlyteenager726 2 роки тому +4

      I’d recommend doing the headfirst dive because to me it’s quicker. You tread, put your arms in front of you and then try and touch your toes. From there just kick your way to the bottom. For a Feet first dive I recommend trying to get yourself as high as you can out the water, then tuck your arms in or put them above your head so you sink as quickly as possible

    • @LifeofAdam
      @LifeofAdam  2 роки тому +3

      I would swim front crawl towards the brick, and then once ur close u can change to breaststroke and keep ur head above to look around for it while moving. Blow air bubbles out of your nose to sink faster on your way down. Then do a light push of (maybe a little harder) to speed up your time coming up. Then do a mix of flutters and elementary backstroke kick on your way back. You have to push yourself to make the time. (YOU GOT THIS!)
