- In this Samarkand Uzbekistan Vlog, I take you with me as I explore the Central Asian country of Uzbekistan for the very first time. Often disregarded as a top travel destination, Uzbekistan has so much to offer, from its rich history to its incredible architecture and unique culture, which is why I would highly recommend a trip to Uzbekistan.
To start off my Samarkand Uzbekistan travel guide, I walk to the Shah-i-Zinda Necropolis, which is a beautiful complex filled with tons of mausoleums where many famous people in Uzbekistan have been buried. The colors, architecture, and atmosphere in the Shah-i-Zinda Necropolis in Samarkand, Uzbekistan are truly amazing. After wandering the beautiful Shah-i-Zinda complex, I walked over to the Siyob Bazaar / Siyob Market, which is the most famous market in Samarkand. The Siyob Bazaar is one of the oldest markets in Central Asia, and is a great place to learn more about the local Uzbekistan culture. Inside the Siyob Market you can find all types of traditional food, clothes, crafts, and more.
Next up on my Samarkand Uzbekistan Vlog, I walked over to the Gur-i Amir Complex, which is where Amir Timur and some of his descendants are buried. Amir Timur was one of the greatest conquerors of all time, compared to the likes of Alexander the Great and Genghis Khan. Amir Timur’s empire stretched all the way from current day Istanbul, Turkey to India. Similar to much of the other architecture in Samarkand Uzbekistan, the architecture and designs in the Gur-i Amir Complex are absolutely stunning. I absolutely love the unique Uzbekistan architecture and the beautiful blue colors. The next stop on my Uzbekistan Vlog was to the Bibi-Khanym Complex, which was built by one of Amir Timur’s wives in honor of Amir Timur returning from one of his trips to India. Inside the Bibi-Khanym Complex are three beautiful mosques. Visiting the Bibi-Khanym complex is an absolute must in Samarkand and is one of the best things to do in Samarkand Uzbekistan. Across the street from the Bibi-Khanym Complex is the Bibi-Khanym Mausoleum, which is where one of Amir Timur’s wives is buried, and is another absolutely beautiful piece of architecture.
One of the best things to do in Samarkand Uzbekistan is to eat some delicious local plov / pilaf, so my next stop on my Samarkand Uzbekistan Vlog is to a local restaurant to chow down on some plov. Plov is a famous dish in the Central Asian region, but originates here in Uzbekistan. It is a rice based dish topped with vegetables and different types of meat, and it is absolutely delicious!
After enjoying some delicious Uzbek Plov, I headed to Samarkand's most famous attraction, the Registan Square. The Samarkand Registan Square dates back to the ancient silk road, and was a major place for people to trade and exchange goods. The Registan Square was also a place where public announcements and major celebrations would take place. Now, the Registan Square in Samarkand Uzbekistan is home to three beautiful madrasas. A madrasa refers to a place to learn and teach, and thus, was a place where many would come to study Islam. The first madrasa built in the Registan Square was the Ulugh Beg Madrasa, who was a grandson of Amir Timur. All three madrasas in the Registan Square in Samarkand Uzbekistan are absolutely beautiful, including the third, the Tilya-Kori Madrasa. Visiting the Registan Square is the best thing to do in Samarkand Uzbekistan.
I hope you enjoyed my Samarkand Uzbekistan vlog and travel guide. After spending a few days exploring Samarkand Uzbekistan, I can confidently say that this is an extremely underrated travel destination and I can’t wait to share the rest of my Uzbekistan travel series with you!

Thank you! I hope you get to Uzbekistan sometime soon!
So I recently started reading Audre Lorde's book, "Sister Oustider" and in the first chapter she is describing her trip around Moscow, Tashkent, Uzbekistan, etc. Then she mentions the Tomb of Bebe and the mausoleums and mosques and how absolutely beautiful they are. So, of course, I had to see what the rave was about. Fortunately, there are so many videos on UA-cam with vloggers such as yourself touring the beautiful land and educating us while doing so. I must say, I agree with Ms. Lorde, Uzbekistan is beautiful. I must visit one day!
It is a beautiful country, i hope you get to visit one day too!

Thank you!
Hello Matt! I watched your videos, your videos is best. I have some questions.
How safe was Uzbekistan?
What you didn't like in Uzbekistan?
How hard was to communicate with people?
For your next visit in Uzbekistan what you want to see?
What more has to do Uzbekistan government for tourists?
Did you recommended Your friends to visit Uzbekistan?
Yes I'm from Uzbekistan. 🇺🇿+ 🇺🇸
Thanks for watching Olim! I felt very safe during my time in Uzbekistan and I really enjoyed visiting your country. Sometimes it was difficult to communicate with the locals as I don't speak the local languages in Uzbekistan, but with translation apps on my phone, it worked out well most of the time. I would definitely recommend people to visit Uzbekistan and I hope to come back sometime in the future!
@@MattKramerTravels Always welcome
😉👍
Thank you!
It's great to know that you enjoyed your trip to Samarkand, Matt. It look like the city was crowded by tourists at that time. It's hardly possible to spot a tourist here these days.
I'm hoping to see more from your Central Asian traveling experience!
I really enjoyed exploring Samarkand, thanks Shane! More videos from Central Asia coming soon!
@@MattKramerTravels Good! I was wondering if you had any difficulty acquiring a visa. Visiting other Central Asian states, like Kazakhstan and Kyrgyzstan shouldn't be a problem, but getting into Turkmenistan might be a challenge.
@@Shakhram3974 I went to Kyrgyzstan and Uzbekistan in Central Asia. The visa for Uzbekistan was a little tricky but I got it in my home country before i left so I didn't have any problems entering Uzbekistan.
@@MattKramerTravels Kyrgyzstan is great for mountain trekking and hiking. I hope you had great time exploring the Central Asian nature and wildlife.
I'm planning on creating a specific program on UA-cam, on the topic of tourism, history and geography. It'll cover everything a tourist might need to know before traveling to Central Asia. I'd very much like to know what you think of your travelling experience in Central Asia.
@@Shakhram3974 I really enjoyed my time in both Kyrgyzstan and Uzbekistan. Best of luck with your new project!
