- K&N airfilter seem pretty good over stock. Check out the video, any question, please ask.

I'm not a fan from K&N ! I'm not sure they keep all the dust away from the moving parts in the engine ! If you look through them in the sunlight you see big holes , more air ? Yes but microscopic sand patricals too ! (my opinium).
All good mate. It's an experiment. Fred feels there better than performance filters. I guess they have to be cleaned and oiled properly. Fine dust as you say would be a problem for many filters maybe.
I did ask Fred for his thoughts and he said there have been around a long time with a proven record. Having had that, I just did a 370klm day with 10klm of dirt road with a few other adventure bikes in front. A lot of dust and dirt and not cruiing through it either.
So we will see how it hold up against full on dust.
@@WozzasSportsCruiserRides Go watch the Project Farm video on air filter comparisons for dirt testing. K&N are junk and I'll never put one in anything.
Very cool vid, looking at getting my MT10SP done with Fred next week
Great Christmas present. Good for you.
Fred is an absolute genius
Yes he is.
Good video I am planning on doing this soon. So based on your results it basically can be a drop in mod without needing remapping or anything?
Any mods to air mixture you need to retune. It's a small change, you could try it.
The truth is that the fuel injection mapping will cause the bike to run the programmed air fuel ratio regardless of what you do to it. I ran my MT07 stock, with a full exhaust, and with a modified air filter. Using a AEM wideband O2 sensor the bike ran the exact same ratios. Matter of fact even with the Dynojet PCFC turning the low rpm dial plus or minus 10% would change it and then in a matter of seconds the ratio would return to 14.2 to 14.4. This held true for all idle and cruise conditions. Even changing the numbers in the map makes zero difference in cruise or idle fueling, ONLY in acceleration and WOT does the PCFC make any changes to fueling. Now if you had the full blown commander or you did and ECU flash you could change cruise and idle. Also my MT07 was also fat or rich even with full exhaust and air filter. The real gains come from making the ratio smoother because stock mapping tends to jump all over the place and that makes a huge difference in performance. Moral of the story changing that air filter without tuning is perfectly fine and you will get a bump in performance
Thanks for the info Randy. The air filter is a minor change and a minor gain so yes you could try it.
Changing full exhaust systems without tuning is asking for trouble.
You might have the perfect bike but soon as I put a can on mine my map had a massive flat spot that only a remap sorted. Thanks for your feedback. Cheers.
@@WozzasSportsCruiserRides not to be argumentative but n really changing the exhaust isn't gonna be a bug deal either. As long as you using the o2 sensor. If you had a flat spirit was there before too. That's the biggest issue I see if with a factory tune the AFR is all over the place and just making it consistent nets response and power.
I promote the Woolich ECU flash not because I get paid, it's because the bike nearly killed me with the Factory tune and can.
The bike is night and day different.
Fred, my tuner specializes in custom maps, or dual customs maps for Harley's,
Race bikes, Drag bikes etc.
I have my slip-on fitted at Yamaha as new, Even they recommended Freddy.
On the track the bike performs well, I expect I lot from my bike so performance, reliability go hand in hand with knowing my bike is tuned right for my riding style.
I personally will always recommend tuning. cheers.
kn looks cool
Yes, I thought that too.
I know this long after you made the video but the bikes remain the same where your tuner pulled the boot out I think there is quite alot you can trim out of the base lower portion of the air box changed the filter in mine pulled the boot out and put it back in because of that reason just thought the air would flow easier through the rubber boot you probably don't even have the bike any longer ?
Thanks for your input. Good to learn knowledge from someone else. Cheers.
Was there a difference in intake sound?
Yes, a little more intake noise. Cheers.
@Wozza Hi, did you use K&N hi flow filter or race model? YA-1015 or YA-1015R serial number?
Mate, the Hi - Flow. The bike is mainly ridden on the road with 3 or 4 track days a year.
@@WozzasSportsCruiserRides thank you for replying!
I'm going with decat pipe and was searching for a better air filter.
How are you making so much power. Was this bike tuned before this test?
I think from memory it was 1H/P or 1.5H/P from stock filter to k&n filter.
Go with Sprint filters. Far and away better than K&N.
I think I'll stick with what the racing boys suggested. Cheers.
@@WozzasSportsCruiserRides No problem. Just making a suggestion if you want real increase in flow, along with better filtration. Both can be had with real science. Seems counter-intuitive. Sprint is one of the few filter companies who actually publish scientific test data on their product. K&N is overrated.
Mate, luv the feedback, it's just the way I went after I had asked the Questions with Procycles dyno who run race bikes, drag bikes and custom tune all makes and models.
I'm sure it's a good filter and do appreciate your feedback . Cheers
@@WozzasSportsCruiserRides Again, no problem.
Hardly worth the extra money for 2 hp gain
Yes, on it's own merit. 2hp isn't much. If your doing an exhaust and air filter plus dyno and racetune than it's a big gain over a standard bike.
Do it all at once.
This is good data, but the guy holding the camera... did he have like 9 cups of coffee? The most unsteady camera hand I have every seen... lol
Ha😄, that would be me. Still, it's good info. Cheers, Wozza.
It's been proven numerous times that the stock filter is not a restriction on these bikes. K&N is absolutely the worst filter on the market. Only run this filter if you absolutely hate your engine.
I'm at 115,000 klms on a K&N filter, custom Dyno'd Woolich Race Tune FZ-1.
Race track ride days, dirt roads, flooded roads and everyday riding. The same as the MT-10. Haven't had any problems so far.
I'll post it when I do. Cheers, Wozza.
