i love ur reviews, the best on the market.
detailled accurate and extensive.
Thank you for review. It helped me a lot. Great job as usual!
I was on the fence about buying this and frustrated by the lack of reviews. You guys delivered again, thank you so much! Wish you all the best.
its an overpriced MEH monitor with fake crap HDR, nothing to be excited about.
@@rawdez_ What would you rather buy then? HDR is only worth it on an OLED monitor (or maybe mini LED with 1000+ zones). The WOLEDs have horrible text clarity, the QD-OLEDs are all curved, which is annoying for productivity. On the other hand, the PG27AQN is shockingly expensive. The XG27AQMR fills a niche with features that are important to me.
@@D3adLyStinG yeah, "features that are important to me", you're either a shill or a marketing victim.
there's a ton of 1440p 165+Hz monitors priced twice less with which you won't be able to notice any difference with your eyes/brain.
@@rawdez_ You're setting the bar too low with 165+, specially if were considering pretty much all of those would be without variable overdrive. Mind you, rather than him looking like a shill, you look like a frustrated hater with buyer's remorse without even buying. It's OK if you can't justify buying one for yourself, just don't.
@@rawdez_ What are you even talking about? If you can't see the difference between 165 and 300 Hz, that is your own personal problem. Also the cheaper monitors have a ton of issues like lack of variable overdrive. I really hope you're trolling and not actually that stupid. Anyway, I'm done here, feel free to cry some more.
"higher than 144hz" part is probably for search engines to show it if people look for high refresh rate (144hz) monitor
its slimey, also knowing that 240hz monitors will be $300 soon it just tells me they are trying to get a head of this upcoming trend.
@@marktackman2886 Slimey? It's not like it's misleading.
Got this monitor around 3 months ago. Absolute BEAST and extremely smooth performance with vivid colors.
Hello, I need help. My monitor arrived today and I noticed a problem with a pure black screen in the form of vertical lines all over the screen. As if there was dirt on the glass after the drops. This problem is visible even when I sit directly in front of the screen. I don't know if it is a specific coating or a faulty screen. Do you also have the same problem?

13:55 Thank you so much, Tim, for the heads up!
I just bought this monitor. Thanks for the review.
With my new Asus Crosshair X670E Hero, Ryzen 9 7950x3d.
The image the refreshrate and everything is so nice, I absolutely love it.
Could you tell me if this monitor has an audible fan?

Finally a review of the xg27
Apply dark mode to graphs please, love the content just don't need my eyes being burned out of thier sockets 😅
I understand that OLEDs have moved the top end gaming monitor pricing up but $650 is high end

Cry more?
Same I thought that the term mid range means that the price will be starting at $200 and at max of $400.
@@chills5100 well you're just wrong. That would imply you can get 1440p high refresh for $100 on the cheap end. That's simply not true. 1440p high refresh starts at where you put mid range. Watch the video first
Then you truly haven't seen "High end" prices.
Amazing review
its insane to think that £700-800 for a monitor is considered "mid-range"
$1000 in Canada. Ridiculous.
Samsung has a 100 000$ TV.
Still overpriced
Level Zero: $100 60 hz office grade
Low Range: $300 144hz gaming grade
Mid Range: $500-800 240/360hz
High Range: $1000+ HDR and 4k
poor guy 😂
Yeah that price can not be considered mid range in my opinion. Cheapest that I can find it for is €800 (=$900 !!!)
I went for the new AW2724DM as a midrange QHD monitor. It's 180Hz instead of 300Hz, but still enough for me and it came almost at half the price.
He said mid range for 1440p high refresh. Searching for 1440p 144hz+ I can find monitors anywhere between 200€ and 1300€. Seems fair to call 800€ midrange in my opinion, as 750€ would be the exact middle
@@stermi4510 tldr of this review: its a MEH monitor. never support overprice i.e. never try to bend price ranges to justify overprice, and no one would say you're shilling for crap value.
Here in Finland, the cheapest ones seem to be around 870 €, i.e. $950 (USD), including 24 % VAT.
Without VAT, as US prices always(?) tend to be, it'd be about 700 € i.e. *$765* (USD).
The most expensive 27" Gaming monitors (1440p, 16:9), including our VAT, seem to be ~ $1,420 (USD).
The cheapest ones (High Refresh Rate 6/2023 --> 240 Hz) ~ $380 (USD). Naturally, sale prices can be lower etc.
The middle point, i.e. (max + min) / 2, is somewhere around $900 (USD). Or about *$726* (USD) without our VAT. Or about $706 (USD) when using 165 Hz as lower limit.
Of course, most Gamers won't/can't buy the most expensive top model --> average price is well below the middle point.
@@eukariootti1 thats not how ranges are calculated and its not how you arrive at midrange.
because if it was like that all greedy corporations have to do to shift ranges up is to release overpriced AF crap.
they try to do exactly that and then flood comments on yt with shilling full of stupid "calcuations" like that one of yours to try to justify their overprice. but only stupid people are buying that.
ranges actually depend on buyers and worldwide economics, not on what rich stupid parents can afford to buy to their spoiled kids.
Yeah in Germany high end coat 1400 € and mid would be then 700 €.
HDR is reserved for OLED and miniLED. Shouldn't even be apart of the equation on regular panels.
regular panels should get obsolete and CHEAP, sooner = the better. but corporations are doing their thing and milking the market for as long as people keep buying their overpriced fake "HDR".
Extremely happy with my recent AW3423DWF purchase based on your review. My first OLED monitor.
With 3 years screen warranty including burn in makes this a compelling offer.
Please review the AW2723DF 280hz, would love to see its performance in depth
Hola espero ayudar un poco lo tuve y lo devolví el desenfoque es terrible
FYSA for all this has been $569 US at amazon, Newegg and B&H in the use for about a week now. if you want a blur reduced high refresh 1440p this is a great monitor (300hz, Clarity mode 3 or 4 seem like the best balance).
@monitorsunboxed Very nice review. Have you considered re-reviewing the Samsung Odyssey G7 27" 1440p 240hz LC27G75TQSNXZA? According to the charts listed here, it has better contrast, better motion performance, and similar color performance. It seems to be quite high on the charts, in many reviews, even though it is an older monitor. Really enjoying this channel!
He should review the new Odyssey G6 that actually has better Response Times than G7 but worse input lag
Need to add the "Alienware AW2723DF" in that table of monitors to compare.
The display looks so good and clear during motion, but it's expected of it when it costs so much
Tim, can you have a look at Y27QF-30 from Lenovo? It seems to be a viable alternative to M27Q X, at least price wise.
I'm planning on jumping up to 1440p high refresh after upgrading my graphics card in the next generation or two. I will be sure to look at this monitor when I do, as a deal on it would make this monitor a fairly easy choice in my use case (low light environment, mostly gaming, no HDR). Thanks, Tim!
For your use case, look into OLED displays
@@jameskim4096 I'll look into LED tech when they get off organic and there's no burn-in risk. The games I play have fairly static HUD elements, and I'm looking to avoid image retention. But thanks for your input.
When that happens this will be outdated and you wont be able to buy It 😂
@@ThePgR777 and such is life
@@benjaminoechsli1941 look into microled then, their availability should be better by the time you upgrade in a few generations
I'm usually one who's a huge RGB fan but I actually think the stealth look on this monitor looks clean af.
Great to see a truly well calibrated & unlocked sRGB mode & good Variable Overdrive.
Hoping to see this trend continue to other monitors. Meanwhile I'll be in my own little waiting room for basically this monitor, but 4k+ with FALD.
Yep, a quality 4k 240+hz mini-LED is what I'm waiting for as well. If it doesn't come to fruition... I may test the OLED waters if a 4k 240+hz one appears.
4K and 240hz for what?
Hey, Tim, just have one suggestion in regard to your HDR review. I think the market in general, and your audiences in particular, are already educated enough to realise the drawback of HDR600 and below monitor certification. I don't think it's adding much to your current HUB essential checklist and should be moved to yellow or just don't mention in favour of a more severe issue.
The reason I've mentioned this is because there are currently some monitors with HDR 1000 but still with an Edge-lit array and I think it's a much more serious case of misinformation that should be capitalised. If not putting it out of the current list, I would like to see an new tier of red flag that can be used to describe this sort of issue
So what this seems to be telling me is that for optimal motion clarity *with* a resolution of 1440p, this is what you should use with ELMB @ 144hz. That seemed far and away clearer than anything else.
I'd like this in an aspect ratio of 3440x1440 however. While the Hz is a reasonable indicator of clarity, I don't really care too much. If 144 Hz ELMB looks clearer in motion, that's my jam.
I was searching for a display recently. What's happening in this market right now is completely nuts. The quality control is terrible in all companies and soooo many issues i went through 5 models before i settled for iiyama G-Master GB2770QSU-B5. Very nice screen i got it for like 350$ and i'm very happy with it. But srsly this ASUS is not mid-range screen at least in my country at this price you can get OLED on sale for a bit more lol.
Hey Tim, I know this is more of a Steve thing but it’s related to resolutions as well. Would you two be willing to make a video where you bench mark GPUs at uncommon resolutions so we can see how performance slots into your normal carts? I have a 3440 x 1440 so I imagine I’d be in between 1440p and 4K but it’s hard to tell. It would also be neat to see triple 1080p and super ultrawide displays on that list.
Just multiply the horizontal & vertical pixel count to get the total amount of pixels. That's what a GPU has to deal with. Then interpolate performance results if you're inbetween 2 known pixel counts for reasonably accurate results without needing to do additional testing.
1. is there a fan?
2. monitors without a native gsync module used to suffer notably higher input lag at non-native, fixed refresh rates due to their scaler. is this still an issue here?
3. What's the input lag with dsc off at 240Hz?
Would love to see AW2723DF review, would be great to compare it with this.
Yeah but here in eu the price don't wanna drop under 600 🥺
Doubt it will happen. Been asking for a while now same with Acer's new 1440 240hz monitor.
No lo recomiendo lo compre el monitor es bonito su diseño y colores es perfecto pero su claridad y el desenfoque que tiene de movimiento es pésimo me dolían los ojos y la cabeza ahora estoy esperando que me llegue este monitor me llega el sábado
Hi, did you go for this monitor? As someone using this monitor for over half a year now, the AW2723DF is overall a great monitor. However there is a flaw, which is the reason why i looked into this monitor review. GSync on this monitor is kinda buggy. I get random artifacts (mainly green/pink lines appearing for less than a second, looks like a flicker) every 1-2 minutes with it enabled which is very distracting. And sadly there hasnt been any firmware update whatsoever that may fixes this issue.
Id love to see hardware unboxed cover the Lenovo Y25g-30
It's a 360hz 1080p IPS panel for only $400 in the PH. I do hope you can cover it. I'd really like to see if it's any good 🤞
I really like watching your reviews because it goes in depth and I could always tell if a product is worth buying or not by watching your videos. Could you review the iiyama G-Master GB2790QSU-B1? This one is pretty much under the radar and more on the budget side of 1440p 240Hz but I want to know if it would be worth looking at?
Great review Tim, thanks for that. Wouldn't mind a 32" version of this monitor. Question though, is the metric of factory calibration valid when only testing one monitor? I wonder if a wide range of fluctuation would lead to one great result, and 20 bad ones, if that makes sense. Cheers!

Elmb sync 2 on the 360 version is the absolute best.
Can you guys do review on the new Dell Alienware monitor AW2724DM?
Just to give people here a heads up, I own this monitor and ELMB sync looks great above 165 hz, they lock the overdrive and the brightness so that's a downside but it's way clearer playing with ELMB sync than without ELMB sync if you can hit 165 fps and above in all your games. 10/10 would recommend if this is within your budget, even without strobing it looks pretty good.
What do you mean they lock the brightness? Is it locked at 100%? Or
@@GhostCrypt1 80% brightness to be exact
How’s the hdr?
@joseantoniomagana2968 not worth using on anything that's not oled or mini led
Did you test or use the variable overdrive? Looks pretty unique for a non (official module) G-Sync Monitor.
Edit: I have the PG27AQN here, but the fan inside is annoying is hell, so I'm looking for an alternative.
Just got this monitor, and man, is it amazing. I've only played on 1920:1080, so going to a 1440p monitor was game-changing for me
The 300hz maximum refresh rate feels so smooth and responsive. The colors are very accurate, and I love this monitors price because spending $500 for 60 more hz just didn't sit right with me. But if you're in the market for buying this monitor, I highly recommend it.
To be fair, it's not just for the extra 60hz. It has a G-Sync module, upgradable firmware, Nvidia's ULMB 2.0 (the best strobing and motion clarity on the market), a better panel (brighter, higher hz, better response times, half the input latency) and a better HDR experience. It's just a better all-around monitor. Whether that's worth $500 or not depends on the budget and usecase, but nontheless, I have both monitors for my dual monitor setup and this monitor is really great. I actually like using it for media because it has nicer contrast.

That ELMB-sync looks disappointing. Well working implementation of tech like that is what i want for my next monitor, but i dont need that high refresh rate because i rarely play games that can keep so high fps consistently.
vrr strobing simply doesn't work the way people will want. To eliminate the random flickering caused by variable frametimes they use pwm techniques that gimps the motion and an effective pulsewidth that's way to large(mprt gimped), infact it can make motion worse then sample and hold the lower framerate you go.
proper single strobed vrr with low pulsewidths is too flickery to put in a consumer product they will never do it.
tiny variations in flickerate are extremely noticeable to human eyes even 10microseconds of jitter is visible as a candlelight flicker, why fixed hz is pretty much requried for good quality strobing.
the way vrr-elmbsync works is by having a fixed black period at all refreshrates, if the black period is allways the same you won't see flicker then all they have to do is use pwm to equalize the average brightness. unfortunatly this results in mprt and crosstalk growing dramaticly as your framerate drops quickly becoming useless for increasing the quality of motion.
should be called elmb-placebo
And it causes eye fatigue, might as well accept slightly blurrier picture for better comfort.
I am actually trying to save up to get this monitor, but calling it a mid range is an understatement to how long it would take me to get one. There are some cheap monitors out there at 1080p with 165hz for about a hundred bucks with an IPS panel, so I hope that this monitor would get even cheaper to maybe 400 in the future.
Imagine comparing a 1080p low refresh monitor to a 1440p high refresh...

I appreciate these reviews, but to be honest, they all start to run together for me. For me, in the market for a new monitor, I am having a problem delineating between the many choices. What we need is one monitor that is hands and fists above the others so a decision is easy. With that said, since each class is based on the same panels, I guess it isn't practical to expect one to stand out above the others.
Just pick the two most important things to you and go from there
I tested the Asus ROG Swift PG27AQN and the Asus ROG Strix XG27AQMR in a direct comparison. In short, I have the feeling that both models have the same panel, only the XG27AQMR has been cut by 60 Hz. The colors as well as the image speed in terms of image clarity during fast movements (tested in CS 2 and Red Dead 2) are identical for both. Personally, I would say that the XG27AQMR is slightly ahead in terms of image movement. My friend also tested the monitors blindly and she couldn't tell any difference between the two models. Therefore the PG27AQN is not recommended.
I think the PG27AQN more expensive because of ulmb. I use the elmb on my AQMR and it's really good with only slight crosstalk.
question is it LCD or LED and why no one say that anymore ? last monitor i bought turn out its LCD ! is there a way to know if its LCD or LED ?
Can anybody explain what ABL is exactly? I know that it reduces light somehow. Can you disable it? And does it affect viewability and HDR and other stuff?
