Hey guys, this Mongol guide is still the best current Trade Mongol 1v1 build as of right now (start of 2024) this is the GO TO GUIDE! There is also a variation of this where you just go Silver Tree and trade faster and can be aggressive a bit quicker. Both Deer Stones and Silver Tree are equally viable!
Thank you bro for reviewing this again in 2024. This guide works very well for me in both 1v1 and team games. The more I play the more options I explore.
Damn, the Keshiks were a really nice step in the right direction. But I really hope they figure out something about Mangudai. The cic would feel perfect if your main force was Mangudai, backed up with Keshiks and siege. Mangudai really need to be the main unit to use. Cuz it sucks having to rely on basic foot archers to back up keshiks.
ain't good now, ovoo now generates only 70 stone per minute, wouldn't be able to produce 2xdouble keshiks within 6 mins (5 mins 350 stone max, you need 400), which is quite essential if you are going to contest enemies who want to rush castle and built a tower lol
I think if mangudai and keshik are both strong there would be serious balance issues to make other civs counter mass mounts. So the way to fix is to make them good but too expensive and then have the age 2 landmarks provide a bonus that discounts either one of them. This way people would be choosing which unit they want to mass produce and the other player scouting the landmark would be able to anticipate and prepare
I use them to annoy. You can shift click a group around a trade route or exposed resources and they'll ride around shooting without stopping. The opponent is getting constant attack notifications from random places and spends time chasing or microing while you can focus elsewhere. Don't use attack move or they will stop and engage. The point is to have them in constant motion. I agree that they're pretty underwhelming as a fighting force but they're really fun if you can mass them.
In addition to their awesome harrassing capabilities, if you can mass them they are pretty effective against spearman and even against other slower cavalry, they just chase and get damage without reach.
Hey Beastyqt, love your guides. The way I play AOE4 turned into "Wait for a new season to start. Mess a bit around in teamgames until you make a new civ guide. Start playing it until reaching to somewhere up in dia and stop until next season." :D
Mass Horseman if you have a cavalry setup or 6 spingalds if you have more infantry they will help against mangos people tend to go into them agaistn mongol infantry comps since crossbows and handcanoneers are the main units used now
Generally, I do that a massive horsemen and spingalds but opponents spearmen and spingalds are the handicap to overcome it. Also, they do this under the keep. Direct engagement is always a failure for the Mongols. Its really hard to eliminate spingalds positioned under the keep, while whole rams moving to your infrastructure
Think about how you end up in the situation where your opponent has a lot of rams (and had been in the position of ram pushing you). Be more aggressive as Beasty advised. Use various guides to have tighter build. It's pointless to think about magic counter to rams.
@@ecpgieicg you would have to play close to perfect agaisnt civs like china and hre that have strong keeps do to emergency repairs while playing defensive and china being able to build keeps and repaire them fast with high hp siege sitting under them its a pain cause you need high pop for siege but barely have army to use them with or have eco to sustain army with weak units and no unique units or bonuses for infantry that help beyond feudal age dear stones agaisnt civs with better infantry/unique infantry which is every civ, but mongols. Delhi has tower of victory, french has arbaletrier, english has maa upgrade and longbowen, Hre has landschenekt and mma upgrades, china has palace guards and unlimited faster production and better eco with imperial official, Rus has streltsy, and gremlins, abbassid has unique maa and range upgrade and health upgrade from military wing, ottomans get free units and have a unique buffing aura units thats 100x better then the khan and janissaries which are decent, malians have poison archers and donso and javelin throwers. Mongols are suppose to be a cavalry civ, but once they hit castle unless you have a good advantage its usually a gg go next.
Hi Beasty, I've been doing a Mongol against certain civs where I open stable + two pairs of stone produced scouts (cheaper than double spearman), building towers at wood (or other resource) lines with one villager and using scouting eagle to give me the line of sight to shoot villagers over the forest. I'm plat and it works there, but am wondering how it may do on the higher levels. In feudal I'll usually upgrade arrowslits. Since I'm blocking the wood, it's hard for them to get money to get a blacksmith and rams usually. They oftentimes just move to another woodline so I pre-build a tower on the next woodline as well. In Feudal I also get arrowslits to extend the tower range as needed. Macro up my economy behind this and usually due to the harass they're behind enough I can overtake them as the game progresses.
How do players do that start with Mongol where they just move everything at once n pop the khan arrow It seems like them just do everything at once? I have to do each thing individually like set TC bla bla bla
so you wouldnt use mangudai at all? im so dissatisfied with those updates. just nerfing and nerfing. my favorite unit for annoying enemies - mangudai - become useless - got so nerfed with attack and move speed, and even siha bow limbs upgrade is now in imperial instead in castle age.. :(
i dont agree with beasty on deerstone over sliver tree. because you get movement speed on castle age so id rather go for cheaper traders over just speed
Viable if you go mainly cavalry but that is mostly in team games since map is bigger. In 1v1 its not worth. Mangudai Keshik comps are only good against knight spear comps or horsman spear comps in feudal only, or imp but most people will have a mass larger then the amount of mangugai you can make due to amount and cost of all upgrades needed and cost of the unit being too high for its value.
You don't do it all game, just right when you drop the 2nd TC you get 5-6 rounds of double produced vills instantly. That usually turbos your economy fast so that u can set up double production and just produce units from production. Rest of the game u can spend stone on military. Try it
man this is my favorite civ but i can never seem to close out a game before imp and my games are always 1+ hr long slogging away at walls and castles etc. i need to get better at raiding.
for this build, no. the reason is because you want to spare as much gold as possible for the economic upgrades and the keshiks cost 80 gold compared to 60 for the trader
According to the game, as long as mongols bought stones, they do everything better than the rest of the civilizations. How is that possible? Is there some kind of secrets to stones and improved technologies, faster training and growth that mongols have discovered?
Seriously though, every one of these videos just shows something the Ottoman are supposed to do well that others do better. Ottoman imperial age landmark gives them expensive keeps that upgrade trade speed. Mongols say "thats cute." Question: does the decreased cost of traders for the landmark count towards using stone to produce double and would that make it any better?

I have been enjoying mongols alot but I just wish Mangudai had a little more to offer. I feel like they need some kind of rework.
Such an iconic unit for Mongols, would be great for them to get further tweaks. To an extent the same is true of Rus Horse archer.

The build can be further optimized so that you got double Keshiks producing right upon hitting feudal
New build is 5 vills on wood till age up with ovoo or no ovoo built and tc as soon as you age up in 5 mins and have tc before 6min
Thank you so much for making a Mongol guide!!!!!!!!! Gonna try these
Make mangudai as sting as before and make them cost also wood
what is this 2 TC build that was promised but never came? Curious
I love how he randomly says Uwu. What a nice teenager

harass their woodline early, build tower on the nearby woodline as well
Thank you!
I am a noob and when I go Archer/Keshik the enemy builds so many Spears they my Keshiks are just useless no matter the archers.

can u do 1v1 Mongols against Absurd Holy Royal Empire? Im just curious how u would play that out :))
I'm calling it for the upcoming video, 2TC but you use stone to produce vills so that the second TC pays off faster

Really don't think it's a good idea to waste 150 stones just to get a second villager
