I love that you had a mark that you didn't like but found a way to overcome that. I would probably have given up but this has inspired a new way to look at things in future. Thankyou x
I love watching you paint Lois. Your voice is also very soothing. And I appreciate that you use very similar colors so its easier to follow along, Thanks so much! You're awesome,.
Lois absolutely amazing seascapes just by using minimum watercolour paints, give great detail where you've used masking paste. Thanks greatly appreciated stay safe
The monochromatic lends itself to a gray, melancholy, sea mood. (I grew up by the ocean in Newport, RI, USA.). Your birds are simply extraordinary! And congrats on lots more subscribers!
Dear Lois, I watch your videos and I tried this today. I did my version of it. I am new to painting, particularly watercolor. But it was quite interesting.
‘Less is more Lois’😉.....one thinks of those over cast beach walk days Lois ....when (you/I am) the only ones out there! ...lol.... Love the simplicity of this composition and the ground ‘sea salt’! ☺️ Have you tried using cling film on your paintings? Some times you get great effects. All the best Lois. Thank you for sharing your skills with us lesser mortals 🥰🌻
Hi Lois, 😂.... how weird is that...lol... look forward to the composition. Just had a bash at the ‘seagulls at dusk’, tweaked it a little - postcard size- pleased with the result. Best wishes 🌸
I love your style. I use making fluid sometimes, did you not let the fluid dry first before you wet your paper? Looks as if you used the fluid and went right into wetting your paper without drying the fluid.
This is just awesome. Love your work and limited pallet. As I watch all of your videos I always hear sirens. Do you live near a hospital or police station? Just curious. 😊🎨👍🏻
Thanks! I live in a large city near a main road that the ambulance and fire service both use to access all areas of the city, as I’m near the traffic lights I hear the sirens often as they turn them on to pass more quickly through the traffic lights! I’m used to it so hardly ever notice now 😊
Beautiful piece as always. Do you find the masking tape rips your paper when you take it off or is the idea to cut it down and frame round it? Thanks in advance to any who takes they're time to answer.
My tips, make sure the tape is pulled back on itself, not up in the air, if that makes sense! Warm the tape before you start pulling it off, friction or a hairdryer softens the stickiness. I've also found that Frog Tape pulls off easier, it's a special decorating tape, and take your time!
Thanks so much! I'm afraid to say the only benefit is thrift, the 90lb paper is cheaper, however I recommend 140lbs as a better all round paper as it buckles less!
Mairead Harkin I keep a bar of Dove soap in my desk drawer. When I use masking fluid, I get the brush wet and then brush it back and forth against the bar soap. Works good!
That was really good. I will try this, just to see how I am far from your art! I'm a bit scared thinking my results.... Thanks for your time. Really kindly donate tu us.
Beautiful i love these minimalistic paintings .so atmospheric.
I love that you had a mark that you didn't like but found a way to overcome that. I would probably have given up but this has inspired a new way to look at things in future. Thankyou x
I love the masking technique where you add the dark and not cover it entirely. I love the finished painting. ❤️👍🏻
I can almost hear the gulls screeching. Another great painting
I love watching you paint Lois. Your voice is also very soothing. And I appreciate that you use very similar colors so its easier to follow along, Thanks so much! You're awesome,.
Wow, those seagulls are amazing. Thank you for sharing
Another effortless beautiful painting. Watching you brings me joy. Thank you Lois.
I just can't get over how gorgeous the gradient is. It's positively delicious after it dries. I'm in love
Thanks so much!
That was very interesting Lois. The techniques for the seagulls was really very good, and the painting is full of atmosphere. Thanks very much.
Thanks Barbara, you are very welcome!

I’ve watched this twice now... those birds look like they’re flying! You’re really good at this ❤️ I love it.
Thanks so much Susan, I'm so glad you enjoyed it!
Marvelous--and again so simple, clean, and always always new and unique style! Love it.
Thank you, I like to keep demos here are achievable and interesting as possible, beginners should be able to paint these with a bit of practice :-)
Restraint..... that’s the key word! I tend to overdo my efforts. Thank you 🙏 it’s beautiful!
You are so right Franco! Maybe try to begin to stop before you normally would, and see what happens!
I'm sure I could hear the cry of the gulls at the end 😀
Great tutorial
Thanks so much Joe, maybe you did, I live near the sea and often get them outside my house ;-)
I really love watching your videos. You simplify each step for us thank you.

Thank you! I love limited, simple colour palettes, this selection seemed to produce the look of evening light reflecting off the sand
I love that painting. I’m going to try it.
Dear Lois, I watch your videos and I tried this today. I did my version of it. I am new to painting, particularly watercolor. But it was quite interesting.

Cheryl Davis -- don't you mean "Lois is more..." LOL! Sorry, just had to say it. :)
😂

Oh so beautiful Lois. The colour is stunning. Any reason why hot pressed and not cold?
I like the smoothness of hot pressed for graduated washes sometimes, but cold pressed is easier to paint on
This is just awesome. Love your work and limited pallet. As I watch all of your videos I always hear sirens. Do you live near a hospital or police station? Just curious. 😊🎨👍🏻

Very nice . Do you think this could be done as a 5x7 or even smaller?
I'm sure it could be done in any size, it would be a little bit more fiddly to mask out the birds though

Thanks Lois, another gorgeous painting May I ask what are the benefits of using 90 lb paper. I tend to use at least 140lb paper. Marion
Thanks so much! I'm afraid to say the only benefit is thrift, the 90lb paper is cheaper, however I recommend 140lbs as a better all round paper as it buckles less!
If you don't use heavy washes (lots of water), 90 lb paper is a great choice.
Gorgouse.
Please tell why hot press this painting
I never heard of that tip, with masking fluid, if i heard you right, you dip your brush in hand soap, and then in to masking fluid ? thank you
Mairead Harkin yes that’s right, rub soap into the bristles of the brush first!
Mairead Harkin I keep a bar of Dove soap in my desk drawer. When I use masking fluid, I get the brush wet and then brush it back and forth against the bar soap. Works good!
