John, I’ve seen and read lots of interviews with Steve Lukather, and I can say without question that this was the best. I’ve never heard him pour his heart out to this degree. especially towards the final few minutes. For my money, that’s the Luke you’d see when he’s home, relaxing with family and friends, a place where there are no cameras rolling. I believe we got to see that side of him because of the environment you bring with you. For starters, you’re doing interviews in your home, not a radio station or a studio with a zillion blinking LEDs, weird lighting, and a mountain of audio gear behind you-just a nice quiet, comfortable room. Along with a peaceful setting, you have a way of letting your guests know that they’ve got your undivided attention-they know they’re being heard, qualities you’d find in a great therapist. The fact that you’re able to consistently accomplish these things remotely makes your success even more astounding. I believe that most highly successful artists really want to tell their story. More often than not, though, they end up getting manhandled by journalists who are more interested in hearing their own voice. Unfortunately, the world is lacking good listeners. You’re one of the exceptions. Because of that, everybody wins. I’ve been a musician and diehard music lover my whole life. I want to know where the idea for a hit song came from, who sang backing vocals, what kind of mics and compressors were used. I read every last detail on every recording I’ve ever owned. Your UA-cam channel continues to provide a way to scratch that itch. Thanks for keeping this old kid entertained. Well done, as always. Bill Knudson
About 15 years ago, Toto played a casino outside St. Louis. He was at the bar 15 minutes after the show. It was like talking to an old friend. Thanks Steve. Cool dude. Zero rock star tude
Steve is a real dude. No BS, will tell you anything, straight up, the goods, to a total truth. It's rare to find a person like that in this day and age.
Albert Einstein meets the Troll! Classic! Love the gray/silver. Brother John; that’s where I am. I look like I pulled my wig back or that my forehead grew. Thanks for the Steve interview. Have a great Friday. God bless. Blaze
And again, like he is, one of the purest and honest human being, and a hell of a musician. Great interview once again John, thank you too, for every time you do this!!
This is yet another great interview with Luke. He is such an engaging individual, it's great to hear his candid remarks. Kudos to John for letting the interview wander in the directions it did. Fantastic!
Always love a Luke interview. Yeah Steely Dan my desert island stuff too. Thank you.. Great stuff. I don't see how Jeff's wife can say shit, cause it wasn't just Jeff it was David P who started the band too and he is the one that is left. Keep Toto alive it is great.
Going to the gym right now to hear this album for the first time. Luke and the boys NEVER miss. I already know this will be amazing just like the rest of them.
You know what, I absolutely love about your interviews, you let the artists talk. Most chime in when the guest is talking and interrupt the conversation and then move onto the next question. You just let the guest get the story out and that’s how an interview should be. It’s like a bunch of friends hanging out on a Friday night shooting the breeze. .
Steve Lukather is a real deal, keeping it real, living legend of the music industry. High demand session player, Virtuoso, composer, singer...everything. The music flows from Luke. Love you, man. Also...love your relationship with your son, Trev. The fruit don't fall far from the tree.
A very acomplished musician... On the Steve Howe's biography, you can find only awesome AND respectful words for Lukather.... God bless you like Kind regards from México
How can anybody not love Luke??! Like he said, there will always be some purists who don’t like when classic bands perform without original members, but let’s be honest, most of the bands that fall into this category are missing one or more OG members. People still pay to see Foreigner with zero. Having seen the most recent tour, I can say honestly say that they sounded great. The musicianship is exactly what u wud expect from Toto. Sput’s playing actually shocked me, and Warren, Mags, and Xav can all really sing. Have only listened to the new album a couple times so far, but it sounds great. Fantastic interview John! Its easy to see that u have good rapport with Luke. It’s been a long time now, but I did get to meet and talk with Luke after a show once, and he was as genuinely nice and humble as he is here. I will always be a fan and support this guy!
Luke.... God bless that man. He's so great in so many ways. I do feel in this one we get a sense of some of his inner demons. At times he seems to be responding to questions John isn't asking, and accusations nobody would (or nobody should) make. But I've heard the new album, and it's awesome. Wish him all the best for this new record.
What a great interview. Been a fan of Lukather since 1978. He seems like the most genuine person in the business. I could listen to his stories and the state of his world all day. He seems to genuinely care about those he knows. ❤
Just received the new album and have been playing it on repeat pretty much all day. - This is something I really needed. I Love it! I can't pick out a favourite track yet. I sincerely hope Luke will always have the itch to want to make more music. 😃
Loving the album, you can tell you guys just gel as musicians. Songwriting , production , everybody plays their part, plus we get our fill of Luke ! Highly recommended .
Solid Interview so far. Is there more coming up? I'd like to hear more about the creative process behind Bridges. Can you try to get Dave, Simon and Shannon, maybe Lee Sklar and Steve Maggiora to chat about their involvement in the album?
Since it came out, the scorching solo on Peter Cetera's Livin' In The Limelight has always been one of my favorites. So recognizably Lukather. Excited to spin the new Lukather and Paich albums tomorrow. From Child's Anthem to 2023 - these guys have always been the best.
Saw Steve and Toto in CO Springs a few months ago and the band was amazing. Joseph sounded great and I’m just glad I got to see them live. What a legend.
Great interview - thank you! Extremely talented guy who's MUCH too hard on himself. We're only human, and we all make mistakes, so be kindv to yourself, sir - you're a good person who's well loved! Though well revered for guitar, and rightly so - initially, what stopped me in my tracks was that alluring, buttery, voice! It drew me in and touched my soul - a thing of beauty! Re hair: I like the gray, but if he's not happy with it he should speak with his hairdresser - I'm sure they can come up with a soft, gorgeous, color that works well for him. Sky's the limit at the salon so have fun with it! As for life moving on - we're all headed in the same direction - it's not over 'til it's over, so until then... enjoy! Thank you for your humility; For sharing your body of work with us, your life's precious moments, and for being so genuine. ✌
As per usual a gre a t interview with 2 guys who really dig each other.humble and honest...Luke is a mighty musician, and a man of integrity...Bridges rocks, and I hope we get the band TOTO Dogs of Oz here in Australia real soon, with some solo stuff as well...please bring Trev as well..again great catchup
We’ve always loved, respected and appreciated Luke. Great guitarist and songwriter and a straight shooter. John, you have always done great interviews and so love your channels.🙏🏻❤️🎧
I have been a fan of Steve since I heard he played the solo on Running With The Night. Really getting into him lately. As a guitar player, listening to Luke makes me want to just burn my guitars and forget it. As for Prince, he was a weird guy. I know someone who did Security and one night, he was sent to Paul McCartney's house in the Hamptons. He was instructed to not ask a lot of Beatles questions. He got to Paul's house and then Paul went out for the night. When he returned, he had a nice conversation with him and Paul was a regular down to earth guy. Contrast that to when he got called to do security for Prince. He was told outright to not make any eye contact with Prince whatsoever. Imagine that? Kind of full of himself. As talented as Prince was, he was a dim light next to any of the Beatles.
Wonderful interview! Luke is such a wonderful person to hear from. Love listening to him speak about life and the importance of growth. I saw them twice at the MGM in Ohio. Got some footage on my channel if you’d like to see it.
It was fantastic! I went to the Long Beach show too. I'm looking forward to the benefit for Ed Asner's foundation in September. And hoping Luke will tour behind Bridges. Such a treat to get to see him so many times in a single year...
I got the new album the day it came out and have played it twice a day since in the car, I love this album, a classic already, and wow im listening to a week old album in my car and i feel great as it feels so familiar ❤
What a great record! It does remind me of 80’s-90’s Toto and that is never a bad thing. My bucket list was always to meet Luke, probably won’t happen, but still a great thought.
Pepperland Records in Orange, California told me about the Tambu album in 1996, when you had brick and mortar stores ONLY! Yes, I special-ordered it there.
Love these interviews with Steve. Seems like a really nice guy. Always has great stories. Still can’t believe he’s the one that sings 99. Seems like an eternity ago.
I just finished listening to Bridges, the whole album. Luks best work!! First Toto concert was 1979, at the famous Cleveland Agora. Boy do i miss those days!
mr lukather was often on a music telly show, whenever he visited Oz / down under. it was called g.n.w (good news week) he was always fantastically hilarious every time he was on the show.! ☺️😊😃 ✌🏻🇦🇺🌏🤘🏻
Steve is such a down to earth guy ...dont think you could get anyone more down to earth...

Saw him twice this year. He gave me a setlist and 3 of his guitar picks. My favorite guitarist !!!!

Steve is very wise and humble. I truly love this man. What a great human just being...
Many years ago, Steve and I talked about Brad Delp and that Mexico gig. I was a close friend of Brad, it's nice to hear him talking about this again.
One of the greatest vocalists that ever lived, so sad what happened to him .💔
It would be so cool to hang with Steve….he’s got stories….I’ve got ears!
Steve is a real dude. No BS, will tell you anything, straight up, the goods, to a total truth. It's rare to find a person like that in this day and age.

I really appreciate his honesty on his personal struggles during COVID. He is hands down your best interviewee.
Fantastic!

Such a great interviewer!
You look good as a Silver Fox Steve, see you in Atlanta in September.

Was just rocking out to English eyes live at zenith in 1990. Killer track. Great solo from luke
A favorite track of mine too. My only disappointment about that song is the chorus vocals on a backing track.
That was a very heartfelt interview with Luke. Thank you, John. ❤
Just received the new album and have been playing it on repeat pretty much all day. - This is something I really needed. I Love it! I can't pick out a favourite track yet.
I sincerely hope Luke will always have the itch to want to make more music. 😃
Steve, love your stuff! Be well......
Steve's not shy! Lol ... enjoyed the interview.
“Bridges” is seriously one of my all time favorite albums now. I listen to it every day.
There will never be another like Luke.
Inspiring doesn’t even begin to describe him and his music to me!
Great interview with Lukather John
Wonderful chat Steve and John. Hoping my copy of the new album arrives today, the music I've heard from it is superb...
Steve, thanks for the enjoyment you have provided in my life and keep on keeping on!
Great interview. It's hard not to appreciate Luke, and you do a great job of letting him share what we find interesting.
Awesome interview, and stoked to hear about Trev and Stan Lynch's involvement. I will go and get this TODAY!
Loving the album, you can tell you guys just gel as musicians. Songwriting , production , everybody plays their part, plus we get our fill of Luke !
Highly recommended .
Ridiculously good player. One of the best. And such a good hearted guy. Signed a few CDs for me after a solo show in London over a decade ago.
John: Kudos for saying almost nothing and letting Luke just riff. Great interview.
As genuine as they come. Dude is funny as shit. Luke, the album is great! Keep it up!

Loved hearing Steve refer to Stan Lynch. Great drummer. Didn’t know he was so good at lyrics.
Great interview - thank you!
