Like the idea with the straws, especially for storing salt and pepper. The method of bending the straw and 'capping' it was very good too. Tx for sharing your great ideas.
wow... you had me from the beginning. Fantastic video! I never would have guessed my beloved straws could be so useful!!! the hamsters in my head are thinking of all the things i can store in straws!!!
This is beautiful! I wouldn't have thought of bringing my OTC medicines this way, but it's simply brilliant! I can also see myself with a whole Altoids tin drinking straw spice rack in my next backpacking adventure! I'll be the envy of all my friends.
wow, this deserves to be top comment, I was thinking something like finding a piece of floating material like a tiny stick or something as a bobber, I did not see it was just right there.
Several things I figured out: jumbo straws are easier to fit things in! Standard drinking straws are more difficult to fit items inside, i.e pills, lotion/ointment, matches . I've also found that for putting in things like lotion/ointment, it's nice to leave both ends open until the tube is partially filled (it's the whole air escaping thing) and then seal both ends. I've found a plastic irrigation syringe greatly aids in inserting lotion/ointment. Great video, I LOVE these tips!
The only thing that would make these ideas better is if everyone packs out the straw pieces when done with them , lest we have little pieces of straws strewn about the woods. I know, I know, most of us are eco minded but this needed to be said for those that are slobs and don't care what they drop on the ground.
+IntenseAngler IA, When you showed the survival fishing packet it gave me an idea. Make the straw package reuseable and then after all the stuff is removed, you can reseal the straw tube and use it as a bobber!
Will yam Dysinger interesting! I have seen him also use a straw to hold sinkers, so it would be perfect to take those out and then seal the straw back up for a bobber.
But if the straw was made to be reused, you could loop the line around the bend then slide the little piece of straw back over the looped section to lock the line in pace as well as seal the resulting bobber from leaking!
fill a whole straw with honey ( real honey ) it will give you enough energy to keep going or add it to tea to help with a sore throat or as a sweetener much healthier than sugar.
You could also use the same method for drink powders, rolled up band-aids, or toothpaste, maybe even use the compact fire starter as a candle, if the plastic is coated in wax and stuck on a paper plate or something of the sort.
You're very welcome my friend! I'm very happy to hear that you found some of these ideas useful :) Thank you once again for watching and commenting... it really does mean a lot to me!
@@lt9690 Hey there my friend... always great hearing from you. Hope you're doing well! I don't have any new channels to speak of... however I am planning on posting again to my main channel again regularly around the start of the new year 👍 Thank you so much for recommending my channel to your brother by the way... really means a lot man!
Thanks a lot for this tutorial!!! I have been trying to think of all kinds of things to use to make my grandson a survival pak for Christmas this year. This video gave me a lot of ideas. I can't wait to start making some of this neat things!! Again, thanks!
Best video I've watched all day! Honestly I never really even thought of taking seasoning into the woods... Sure would help the squirrel meat taste a little better! I just made some seasoning packets for next time haha
I think you could use a plastic film canister to hold about 10 different short straws so they won't break. Also, I use the "One shot" miniature whiskey bottles to hold olive oil, etc. because they are small, super tough, and hold a lot more and has a cap, as well a clear ones you can buy to see the contents. For one buck you get the contents, and the container! ;-)
I recently saw a video a guy did on cotton balls with petroleum jelly that he had prepared in straws like this and they worked perfectly after being stored for 5 1/2 months.
This is a great idea. I can think of other ways to lighten a pack using this sealed and unsealed but securely closed transport system. Thanks for the great ideas.
One of my favorite things to have on hand but always use CLEAR straws so you can see what's inside . We have a wax coated match stuffed inside with the cotton ball so you snip the end and strike the match . You can use these straw containers for all sorts of things
To fill straws with liquids i.e. (olive oil etc.) draw the oil into the straw by sucking it in and pinch off the end with your pliers. Heat and seal - heat and seal. Love those straws.
Thanks for the great demo on the straw versatility. I was considering the us of straws for my survival pouch I am working that would hold the 5 C's but still be small and easy to carry. Thanks brother, keep up the great work
Hey there.....Thanks A lot for a great idea....I'm at the campaign site with my friends right now and luckily I came across to your video just hours before I leave my place...so I started to pack those stuff which I really wanna to pack but thought of not to just because it's not easy to carry....so finally I did it and my friends are so surprised when they saw it.....now I'm the smartest person in my group lol....and honestly the credit goes to you thx again for wonderful ideas you have just added one more fan in your fan list. Best regards... Stevo from Hong Kong
Awesome ideas. I've never seen anythin like this use of the straws. Thanks so much. I'm wondering too if the sealer strip on a vac sealer might also be a way to melt and squeeze the straw together.
I loved this video. It's such a great idea. I'm going to try it for some items I carry in my purse. I've seen the larger diameter straws either in CVS or Walgreen's for just $1.00 a pack.
If you make bundles of 12 straws ( once filled) and secure them with rubber bands, you can put them in a shotgun ammo vest or belt. You can typically carry 480- 500 separate camping straws. Each space along belt can be themed and labeled for contents. EX; Medical in one, and fire and household in another, cooking in another etc....
pretty cool my friend. you bring alot of good tricks and tips for the backpacker or bushcrafter. i just wanna exspress my thanks. again good idea useing the straws. i will be useing the in my future kits. thanks again and keep on keeping on. your friend signing out.. peace
Hey man, good video. some stuff I have seen...but the spices I had never thought of. Thanks! and hey, that bracelet you have on your right wrist...where did you get that? I make chainmaille bracelets....pretty sure that is what I'm seeing. Thanks again for the video man.
Dude you ROCK! thanks so much for sharing- so glad I stumbled on your videos- this is so useful-- even tho Im not a outdoors woman as much as i'd like- but I love storing things even in my home- so this is so super cool- Came to Mock..stayed to ROCK!!! x
Make sure you don't put too much haha, don't want anyone to get sick. 2 drops to a quart. (Remember to bring a dropper, im sure cutting off the end a tiny bit may work)
that was exactly what Pixie Stix did years ago, the kids just ate the stuff instead of mixing it with water and it became a popular candy, they stopped marketing it as a kool aid type drink. also this is now in small packets to mix into water bottles, lots of Icetea mixes but the package is so short it doesnt work as a straw. I like your idea.
Wow, I like these suggestions, and while I was watching, my husband, Kevin (bacon) said, hey that sounds like John... he apparently has a nickname for you??? LOL
BRILLIANT! You have earned a sub sir!

+Marialla ...thats how i store these,in a tin. also, use milkshake straws, they hold more.
You won me over with this! The "air bubble" in the oil, would make a great leveling devise, if one was needed for something. Thank you!
Re fishing kit:
Reseal the straw, and you have a great bobber
wow, this deserves to be top comment, I was thinking something like finding a piece of floating material like a tiny stick or something as a bobber, I did not see it was just right there.
If you cut a piece diagonally off the end, about 1/8" wide, you can slip that over the straw to attach the line.
true very true

+Jeff Krushinski Couldn't agree more. Thanks for taking the time to put that out there my friend.
Happy Trails... -John
On that note, I’d like to also point out that I would not burn the firestarters (or any other) in a campfire. Leave no trace!
Thanks buddy. I'm glad that you enjoyed it!
I appreciate the comment and thumbs up by the way :-)
All the best!

Not sure if that would totally seal it, but I'm sure it would float for long enough. Sounds good!
A great way to protect the straws. Use the m&m minis plastic bottles. They come in different colors to help organize spices, first aid, etc.
What a very helpful video. Thanks so much.
Great idea my compliments. I use the bubble tea straws (much larger diameter) for all kinds of storage too.
but you didn't tell them when it gets cold out the plastic straws split open. been there done that.
you could keep it close to your body like you do with a bic lighter
Oh my GOD! A yoyo playing outdoorsman? I thought I was the only one. WOW John you just keep blowing me away.
fill a whole straw with honey ( real honey ) it will give you enough energy to keep going or add it to tea to help with a sore throat or as a sweetener much healthier than sugar.
honey never goes bad just don't mix it up with the ointments.
Use a larger straw to shoot the honey straw at a bear, and then run like hell to see which it chooses! LOL
@@travistibbs3523 Honey is a natural antiseptic so may be useful as an ointment too!
love the fire straw idea for getting the fire going when camping...great info...thanks!
I just want to know used for the store. Using the olive oil packet you made, you could utilise it as a level or theodolite
You make great and easy to understand videos. We appreciate you attention to detail and the time and effort you put in to make these presentations.
You could also use the same method for drink powders, rolled up band-aids, or toothpaste, maybe even use the compact fire starter as a candle, if the plastic is coated in wax and stuck on a paper plate or something of the sort.
I agree - this is totally awesome! Thank you Intense Angler!
Clever!
Okay... this is brilliant. This is one of the more useful things I have seen lately and I will be wearing this idea OUT. Thanks for sharing.
Ingenious way to store antibiotic single uses in my First Aid kit! Thanks.
Don't forget to write the expiration date for the pills
The fishing kit saved my life. i would have starved without it!
Awesome storage for small survival kits. Thanks for sharing much appreciated
These are some fantastic ideas! Thank you for so clearly explaining and showing these different uses for drinking straws.

This was great! Going to start using this in my EDC asap. Thanks!
Real brilliant ideas. When I had the nasty cigarette habit, I used to use cut off drinking straws as a crutch when I'd roll loose tobacco.
Wow... Very awesome ideas. I'll be picking up some straws.
loved this! how creative. i can't wait to try this for my next camping trip. Thanks!
Those are some very creative storage compartments man! Thanks! :)
you could even put detergent to wash dishes or laundry in one also, great way for small outdoor trips....
