      *PREPPER PRO TIP: In the long run, it will be easier, quicker, and safer just to learn how to proficiently "rake" the lock with the longest section of a long steel paperclip and use a smaller cut section as a wrench to get through most (90%+) of residential property and commercial office door knob locks in less than 60 seconds (obviously pick a good time when no one is around). Yes it's a skill that takes training, but then all you ever need is to always keep an innocent looking, high-quality paperclip on you at all times.*
      *OR if you have a sacrificial credit card you don't mind tearing up, you can just slip it in between the spring latch and the strike plate. When you know how to tweak the plastic corner it might take you 30 seconds.*
      *Either of these will be better than running the risk of getting caught trying to lift someone's key (which is harder that it sounds because it requires even higher level skills ---pickpocketing & stealth), or going through all that work just to realize your little soap cutout wasn't accurate enough and there you are attempting to sneak through a door with a key that doesn't work.*

      Yes I had hoped to see some weird shit I’m sure it works but a lot of people have made some pretty solid points in the comments. You’d have to know the person pretty well to be able to get close enough to take their key and make a imprint of it without them knowing you took the key in the first place, and that probably makes you extra shitty if you’re looking to rob them. This might be useful if you know how to break into a car maybe I can’t see how else you would obtain said key

Then placing the coin on your screen of phone, zoom in and out until the coin size is the same as the picture. Using clear tap, draw around the key, then place clear tape on tin and cut as before. It’s not lock picking…it’s key copying. Lock picking means you walk up with a handful of tools and defeat the lock. It’s hard to walk around with a printer/scanner in their pocket so you can take your sweet ass time making a key. If you had access to the key in the first place, go to Lowe’s and get a key cut.

    There’s a simpler way to achieve similar results. You can use a dry erase marker to mark a key and then use a piece of scotch tape to “lift” the print off and transfer it to a plastic soda bottle. Then just cut it out and use the same way. This eliminates the need for the soap and the printer so it can be a little more discreet depending on the situation.

  • @brentsaner
    @brentsaner 3 місяці тому +75

    Modeling clay or silly putty inside that altoids tin is generally going to be far less suspicious-looking (and yield a more detailed/higher fidelity impression). You can then close the tin to protect the impression until you can transpose it/measure the pin lengths/etc.
    I also recommend cutting the key by buying a matching blank and filing it to the pin lengths. It'll be much more durable, you can bring it to any hardware store afterwards and get them to make as many copies as desired without raising any suspicion, and you won't need a tension wrench. It will also look far less suspicious if found on you, which grants you social access/credibility as well.

    • @Dominasty
      @Dominasty Місяць тому +1

      Going to a hardware store to make copies will put you on their CCTV. I thought the point was to stay low key? I know, I had to. 😂

      @@Dominasty Being on CCTV only matters *after you're caught*. Nobody's going to be reviewing CCTV hours looking for someone who *might* be copying a key they shouldn't have. Getting a key copied from a blank you file won't raise suspicion.

      @Dominasty Місяць тому +1

      @@brentsaner what happens after breaking and entering after the investigation starts? Elude the forensic investigators and police? But I'm not willing to take those risks. Best to keep your face off of CCTVs when in the act of committing a felony.

    • @brentsaner
      @brentsaner Місяць тому

      @@Dominasty Read again. They need to positively identify you as a suspect *and* correlate cut lengths of the key *and* know which hardware store you went to and have a general idea of when. Assuming this hardware store has CCTV coverage of the keycutter (mom and pop's tend to not).
      You aren't telling me how they're doing the very first step, identifying you as a suspect. You're more likely to be on CCTV for the entry *itself*, and hiding your face will raise caution of those around you sky-high.

    • @Dominasty
      @Dominasty Місяць тому +1

      @@brentsaner You're extremely naive. They use the shotgun method, casting a wide net, and matching CCTV to timing and suspects. Then the interviews and narrowing starts.
      Go ahead, though, keep believing it's a great idea to put yourself on CCTV, in a hardware store, to make copies of keys you're trying to use to commit felonies. I mean, come one, man...this is this is the stuff detectives laugh about when stupid criminals do stupid things. Smart enough to know to make copies of keys but dumb enough to put yourself on camera and/or get receipts on digital transactions (credit/debit/mobile pay). Talk about non-repudiation and destroying any case you possibly thought you could have.
      I'm only responding to such terrible ideas like yours in the hopes of stopping someone from committing crimes and ending up in prison.
      I mean...how stupid can a person be to not understand how simple this is. Then again, this is why I don't commit crimes.

I use a small grinder to cut lengthwise down the type of key for the lock, removing the teeth completely from there a flat wire bent on the last 1/8th of an inch is used to tickle the tumbler pins into alignment while using the key as a tensioner. 2-3 strokes and the lock is open..

    Why not sandwich the key between two halves of the soap, as a mold, then fill the void with some JB Weld? Would be an exact replica of the key in no time at all…

    • @Dood-man
      @Dood-man 20 днів тому

      Or just imprint it completely in one bar then fill it... you could use solder, or something hard! Gorilla glue perhaps? Can always sand the face if it's too thick.

    Thanks for the survival tip! Now if I get locked in a room with only a bar of soap, a working printer with ink and plenty of paper, preferably a marker, an altoids tin, tape, various cutting equipment specifically for metal, and a paper clip, I’ll be able to escape :)

    Use a credit card from the purse to make the key. Easily to cut with only a good knife. Use lipstick from the womans purse, lipstick the key, paper (or business card in the purse) pressed on the the lipsticked key for the shape. Use your own sharpie to paint the key, press image before the paint dries.

      Also, cameras have adjustable aspect ratios, keys are standardized, and phones connect to printers easily.
      But yeah, grab the soap it's an emergency haha.

    A plus for Ivory soap in your kit is ,ivory soap is one of the only soaps that float on water,that was one of its main original selling points way back when people still washed in streams and ponds.Also believe it or not it's awesome trot fishing line bait.Put chunks on fish hooks on the trotline and the water wears it down while carrying the scent and elements downstream,saturating a large area.Its a southern thing.

    Urban survival skill LOL! So, in essence then we need the key to a door we wish to unlock. This isn't about picking a lock with a bar of soap per say (just make an outline on the tin with a marker and forget the soap). It's about how criminals hock a set of keys or a key to make a knock off. Otherwise, we can just go to a CVS, Walgreens or a hardware store with the key you hiked and get a key made. Duh.

    step 3. follow them somewhere private.
    step 4. use soap to knock out person. If this fails, shove in mouth.
    step 5. While confused or out cold, rummage for the key.
    step 6. use key on lock.
    step 7. reclaim soap.
    steop 8. repeat until satisfied.

    Thanks. It's so easy to break in... That's both amazing and worrying... Where I live, if they don't break in (actually damaging the door or the lock), the insurance won't pay anything : they'll only assume you forgot to lock the door... I guess we all need to avoid locks having keys so easy to copy.

    Is it possible to take a high definition picture of a key and precisely size that picture to the exact dimensions of the key, and then make your jig from a scan of that? If so, you could cut that whole "steal key, soap imprint, return stolen key, photocopy soap for your jig" part of the process out....but I'm just spitballing here,, don't know if this is even feasible. If so, could be a backup/alternate way of creating the jig to cut your key

  • @thegreyfuzz
    @thegreyfuzz 3 місяці тому +1

    Pretty sure you'll find that plastic (like a soda bottle) works better for a temporary key than sheet metal, easier to cut down and far less likely to contaminate the work area with blood from those metal shavings. Although a single paperclip alone will easily defeat most Kwikset residential type door locks as shown in the video in less than a minute or two (as well as most Master branded padlocks).

    What if you fill the soap inprint with epoxy resin glue to make the entire key? Then you could use a small jewlers file to finely finish up or trace a metal key using the epoxy one instead? Epoxy is VERY strong and you could turn the lock with it alone maybe. I have seen people make imprints of BOTH sides of a key. I would imagine that the slots on both side are made differently or there is some other difference between both sides on purpose maybe? 🤔 Don't know if this would work. Just a thought.....

    For a lock like that, two hairpins and a bit of practice seems much more practical to me. For a lock more advanced, this won't work.
