My favorite cherry tomato is Sun Sugar. It is an improved Hybrid variety from Sun Gold. It doesn't split on the vine as much and is even sweeter if you can believe it! I also tried an Heirloom cross this year called Cherokee Carbon. BEST tomato I have ever tasted! Sweet, nice texture, and a great meaty consistency. Thanks for your tomato update!
oh I got Cherokee Carbon seeds from a friend this year. I may have to give those a try for next year. I've got sun sugar seeds too but haven't tried them yet. Will add them to the grow list for next year too. Always interested in hearing other people's favorite varieties.
that garden peach is almost certainly a seed mixup by the supplier. should be matte appearance (not reflecting much light in white gleam) and medium size , something in the realm of a golf or squash ball that looks like a really typical yellow cherry type :) the Blue Beauty looks crazy cool. If I had those I'd be kinda sad when they were getting too ripe to keep decorating my bench ! wow ! cosmo is also phenomenal in appearance - no idea if it would taste good but the main one I've heard of being tasty from wild boar instead of decorative is the crazy cherry
Great tomato varieties! The unknown Roma sure looks like a money maker plant with those bunching and size tomatoes. My galaxy tomatoes took forever and have ripe ones now and gonna be trying one out today
Not sure about the mystery. I looked up money maker and I think the fruits on mine might be a little bigger than those but not sure. Almost seems like a hybrid. The fruits are pretty consistently sized and plentiful.
Hi, that’s awesome update, I love some of the colours on those tomatoes, you do have a mixed bag there, but if you try new varieties I suppose that’s what happens, I’m very envious of your tomato support cages, we don’t get anything like that over here within a budget, they will last you a lifetime, I love sun gold but don’t think I will grow it again because it seems to split even more now than it used to, that could be down to a weakening in the breeding? oh the cages definitely weren't cheap but they will last a long time so I think they are worth it in the long run. I think there's a lot of sun golds out there that aren't all the same. You might try getting a different batch of seeds. I've tried a few different sources and they aren't all the same. This year they aren't as productive and taking longer than usual to ripen. They used to be one of my first to ripen. I don't think I'll grow this one again. I've got seeds from a few different sources.
Great tomatoes! I'm surprised at your German Lunchbox. Mine were the first out if 100+ tomato plants to set fruit and to ripen. Mine were bigger, more saladette. From Baker Creek. Super productive. A little too mild and slightly mushy, but sweet and make the best sweet and flavorful salsa or canned tomatoes. Don't prune them. I don't think you're supposed to prune cherry tomatoes, but I didn't and they grew big and produced more than any other variety.
Weird. Mine were from Baker Creek too. I always prune because of the short season and rains we get here. If I didn't prune I'm afraid I'd get less of a harvest. The pruning forces the fruit to ripen more quickly and also provides better air flow to delay the onset of blight.
That definitely was not garden peach , they have a fuzzy skin and 3 to 4 times the size of that yellow cherry tomato 😅. Awaiting your 2020 tomato tour .
the ones in your compost heap are suffering due to lack of water. Blossom end rot can occur through lack of water - not enough water to take the calcium up through the plant.

I have about 5 German Lunchbox and they and Juliet were the first to produce and to ripen. The German Lunchbox is super prolific but I don't prune suckers and I have tons of these tomatoes. I find them bland and mushy or mealy. I won't grow them again, so you might try not pruning the smaller and cherry type tomatoes and they will produce more.
once the plants get taller I don't prune the suckers as much. I like to ensure they get plenty of air flow to help delay the onset of blight which is a big issue in my area.
That small Roma that had a lot of blossom end rot is actually not unusual for a Roma; Roma tomatoes are notorious for getting blossom end rot. You have to add extra calcium, such as lime or bone meal, than you would for your average tomato plant. Great looking garden though
maybe it's the angle, but it seems to me that you're missing a lot of foliage edit: you over-pruned and under-watered. don't be upset with your plants further edit: you don't create a singe-stem by pruning limbs that large. it's done by removing suckers and properly training the plants throughout the growing process. The mistake is obvious because the nubs remaining are far too large too all be removed at once without shocking the plant. hope this helps.
I always heavily prune late in the season because the season is very wet here in fall and it delays the arrival of late blight a bit. Most people here lost their tomatoes to late blight much earlier than I do.
yeah I don't typically do much if any pruning on determinate varieties. I don't usually grow determinate varieties though. If I do, I will grow them in the greenhouse where I don't have as much height.
Just curious why you have taken so much foliage off your plants? Maybe that is why they are not producing very much. They might be starved for energy. Also all your plants look wilted. None of them look very vibrant. Hmmm.

@@gapey blight is a big problem when tomatoes are planted as close as yours are. Blight (both early and late) is also an airborne disease, which means that no amount of pruning will prevent it. If your plants have diseased foliage from the ground up, that may be Septoria, which thrives on wet soil. Space your tomatoes more and use natural mulch to protect the soil and retain moisture, so you won't need to water as much.

They are both great varieties. You should try Brad's crazy cherry too. I did find the blondkopfchen split a bit easier than Brad's.

My garden peach tomatoes where much more medium. lol. Kind of flavorless, but they do have a bit of fuzz like a peach. Novelty

My Baxter’s Bush and Chadwick Cherry were my favorites this year.

You might get more harvest if you stop pruning cherry tomatoes and determinates. Only large indeterminate tomatoes want pruning.
I don't prune determinates. All indeterminates want pruning in my area. We have a short growing season.

Could be the variety. some varieties just have thick skins. What varieties are you growing?
All of your plants are underwatered, this is the reason for slow growth and long ripening and splitting.
sorry but don't agree that underwatering would cause splitting. overwatering is what causes splitting.
