I must admit, I am so jealous of how great your tomatoes are. I just grow whatever the greenhouse here has, but I did get 2 that were about 2 lb. Each. They were my pride and joy. I saved a lot of their seeds.

It did my heart good to see that your romas and pears aren't any bigger than my container grown ones. This is the first year that I've grown my tomatoes in containers and only did romas, pears, and cherry which I don't usually grow.Hubby was expecting the big grocery store variety and was disappointed that they were on the smaller side. I tried to explain to him that those are hybrid varieties and mine are heirloom. I would much rather have the flavor than the size.

Oh what I could do with that basket of beautiful tomatos. I was astounded by your hibrids, really interesting and beautiful. I haven't even seen half of them and my envy is showing. Here in jersey we've had so much rain and humidity that bloom drop is rampant. Hopefully I will be able to get at least one of these amazing heirloom tomatos come next spring. Keep up the great gardening, many blessings

If you ever want to try something new...BakerCreek has a variety in their catalog called Bread & Salt. I grew a 3 pounder last summer. They make the BEST sandwiches. We made Bacon, Basil Leaf, tomato, Avocado and Mozzarella sandwiches regularly with those tomatoes. SO GOOD! So try a bread and salt! You won't be disappointed.

Hey Luke what an incredible tomato havest. I've learned a lot from watching your videos and I just wanna ask this question. If I'm constantly feeding my soil bacteria some molasses, will the plant stop trading their excess sugar to the bacteria in the soil thus letting the plant focus their energy in making the fruits sweeter? I'm not an expert so I need your advice on this one.

I know the vid is about Heirloom Tomato What I really need to know is Determinate versis Indeterminate because here in Deep East Texas clay and sand can be whole different problem.
I started out with mostly Road base Clay and after raising two horses, hay and feed grains and Plenty of horse ca-ca I discovered while tilling the corral that weeds were Really prolific. After selling the horses and working the soil, composting, growing ground covers and adding several truck loads of Masonry sand (with tiny pebbles,) and "tractor" tilling I have now an excellent lot for gardening. My soil now grows 6 to 7 feet tomatoes and I want to grow all Summer and into Fall.

Community plants like marigolds are more likely to keep the insects off the food plants. To hybridize you will plant the tomatoes closer together because there is cross pollination via wind and bees. I have had great hybrids by planting them side by side but to know the hybrid only plant two close together. Nature is Awsome!

What eats them if you leave them out? Birds? I had though maybe the chipmunk I see around was doing it? I had to take them in when orange or they would get half eaten last year. Only the Cherry tomatoes seemed to stay safe. Last year I got a plant at the garden center called Old German that produced really gigantic tomatoes. Yellow with salmon colored bottom and stripes. They had a tropical fruit flavor, not really a typical tomato flavor like the Big Boy I also grew.
