- Independent, #NotSponsored, unscripted fan review of the LEGO Speed Champions Fast & Furious 2 Nissan Skyline GT-R with Brian O'Connor (played by the late Paul Walker) minifig. This has 319 pieces, costs £19.99 / $24.99 / 24.99€ . The price has gone up, but there are some good prints to complement the large sticker load as well as a surprising drum-lacquered silver part addition. It may look a bit too much like a different GT-R though.

The seat as a print makes sense since it'll come in contact with the minifig, so they opted not to do a sticker which could either get damaged or come off with wear and tear of placing and removing the minifig.
Could've just had a blue piece and nobody would care
I don't think the blue print behind the seat that Jang is talking about is going to come in contact with the minifig.

I literally laughed out loud the first time I saw the triple nitrous setup from the real car being included in the scale car. That’s one of the funniest details to make sure they included in all the speed champion cars so far
$25 for this set is definitely pushing it, but if any theme is allowed to raise their prices it's speed champions. The quality and consistency is just so good with pretty much every speed champs set like you said jang. The sticker sheet does look a little bit terrifying, but overall looks sweet, no surprise it's sold out everywhere

basically how I felt about the Great Wave set. The January release seems to have been under-supplied from what I can tell
My favourite Speed Champions set yet, just oozes Y2K goodness. Looking forward to picking this and Dom's Charger up when I next go out.
Really hope they continue through each film. Han's RX-7 next maybe?

I’d like sets from the newer movie but also more from the old. Brian’s Supra and eclipse, doms rx7, and a few others. I also really hope they go out of their way and do the Monte Carlo from Tokyo drift
I'm not really a fan of the movie franchise, but I do think it looks cool and has some nice parts. That's what I like the most about Speed Champions
Thank you for pointing out the mold mark issue! It has been bugging me to no end as well, and it is only when building older sets that I realise things have actually been getting worse in that regard. Lego actually needs to learn from the past and start to make parts that do not have those marks on them, and I don't think it is unreasonable to ask for that.
I remember when pictures were revealled, some people were hoping for the 1x2 trans plates underneath would actually glow. Yet funnily enough, no one could say how they would

I've never understood why people do not like studs showing on Lego models. To me that's what makes it Lego and adds to the charm
I always was an Rx-7 guy, but it definitely evokes some nostalgic feelings! I wish there were not studs on the hood though
Just picked this up. I only got it because I collect all the Speed Champions, but I'm pleasantly surprised. Really enjoyed the build and while I'm not a particular fan of the Fast and the Furious, I really like the model.
I wish I had more of those Lacquered pieces. They make car mocs look sooooo good!
Lego has this on back order till March 1st. Might as well have released it with the other sets. Also apparently Barnes and Nobles system doesn allow this set to be sold till (you guessed it) march 1st.
This seems like a good build for the price point. Can't even really complain about the $25.

you are right about the brick quality. the same with the color consistency. I hope there will come mods on rebrickable for this car, to make it more R34. it looks like the whole Knob skirt could/should have been smooth plates instead. do not understand why they used 4 x 2x1 plates there on both sides
I was impatiently waiting for that video to see how the Jang did applied the stickers for the sides graphics, I am not disappointed as always and will stick to it !

I'm really excited for this one for many reasons one we're getting that classic fast and furious car aesthetic. Two we're finally getting another right hand drive car since the 007 Aston Martin, and finally of course we're getting that Paul Walker figure, fourth we're getting something resembling a normal car I'm tired of speed champions always being supercars and hypercars where are the Honda Civic type Rs

I agree with inflation and everything surrounding that. It rly shows the flaws of LEGO. It’s more premium and quality isn’t improved at all. Builds its fantastic but prints, stickers, QC, pretty bad.
25$ at this price I won't be buying Speed Champions casually

I don't like the how the cheesewedges on the headlights don't match up for smooth surface. The studs on the hood actually could be removed woth the March 2023 sets having new mudguard piece stripped down now can have tiles on the same level as the studs would be. I love how the back window is the 4-wide version of the 6-wide canopy in the front. The rims are awesome as well as the rear lights and the nos bottles. I'm okay with the price considering the new prints on mudguards. Definitely will pick it up.
I knew that eventually with enough Gundam models under your belt the mold marks would get to you. Lego has been steadily improving for a while but they need to find a solution to some of their tile molds.
I had to double check that you were the same jang that ran Ultimate RC all those years ago.... What an incredible surprise. Im even more glad to be in this hobby now 😄

About this printed seat. i must see it up close, but i think, its the perfect hood scoop or rivet panel/surface. Good for little car models and probably star wars

Definitely one of the best speed champions sets out there
tbh, we are very lucky in the UK with pricing for speed champions. with 8-wide it jumped £5 from £12.99 to £17.99. the recent price hike has only gained £2 with many retailers still offering at typical price before the price hike. i would kind of feel annoyed by the rpuce hikes if i was in another currency. overall, i like the set but missed the chance to buy it and waiting on a restock
The stickers don't seem as bad as I first thought. Still would have liked to leave them out but with the printed printed parts around the rear wheel, that will be a bit of a pain.

the studs showing on the hood could've been hidden if they'd used the new wheel arch piece from the march wave of speed champions

Yes those mold marks. Good you mention it. I mentioned it 2 years ago. It was less worse than it is now, and people laughed it up. But it starts to get a lot worse lately. Yesterday I bothered me while building the new modular. I doubt asking for replacements would help, but may be I will do so, so Lego might see this as a serious problem too.
Thanks for mentioning the unsightly mould marks, most reviewers never mention things like that. As for the bad colour match between stickers and bricks - will they ever learn??

I think it was after this build that the SC designers decided to make those new wheel arches and chassis. The issue with the studs was so unavoidable, and so they designed the new pieces. It's a shame that it worked out like that, but it's still an amaing recreation. Mistakes are only a path to a greater future :)
After thinking long and hard about it in the store, I passed on it today because I agree, the shape doesn't scream R34 to me.

I’ve also noticed that Lego has had more and more leftover sprue over the years. It’s both annoying and concerning. When I was a kid there was none whatsoever on Lego bricks and pieces. It’s one of the things that distinguished Lego from its competitors. Lego is slowly ruining its reputation as the highest-quality building block product on the market with all of its QC issues. Nowadays we have to worry about misaligned prints, inconsistencies in brick colors, sticker colors not matching the brick equivalents, sprue marks, misaligned prints, improperly cut stickers, and prints being far too thin especially on dark colors. That’s not even the complete list, either. Some of these issues have existed since the beginning of the brand, and they’ve ironed out a few other issues like brittle plastic (for the most part, although this has been replaced by transparent plastic that’s far too malleable and therefore prone to scratching), but they’ve also introduced far more problems than they even started with. It’s sad, to be honest.

That's a lot of stickers for such a small build.
For 20 I think it's real good, but at 25 it's stretching it a little. I was absolutely shocked to see a moulding mark this big it's like an ancient model kit from 1980. Let's say, it they improve on the second batch (because the first one is literally sold out everywhere), I would say it's the limit of what I would pay if they eventually scratch 30 I'll hop off because as much as I like it, you pay more and more for air/nothing. The set didn't improve and therefore became more expensive, but it just went up in price. Either way, its good to see some prints it helps justify the price, but also that's a lotta stickers. I need to grab my brick seperator and be very careful. Still, as a fan of the movie and still somewhat of a Lego fan I'll buy one if it comes into my shops again.
While I do like the GT-R R34, I wish they would have done the Mitsubishi Eclipse from the first movie! Great video as always Jang :)

I'm considering to rebuy any blue (stickered) part in dark grey. Maybe some black for the wing? And parts for a passenger seat.
Seems like a half decent set. I imagine (or at least hope) this will probably hit clearance around the summer wave of sets like a majority of Speed Champions has done so historically. As always, thank you Jang :)

Apologies if this is a bit obvious, but how does one attach the bumper that's connected by the 2 yellow snap bricks? I've done all the steps according to the building instructions but for some reason the yellow snap bricks just won't click on/stick to the 2 brown shaft bricks on the main body no matter how much force I try.

Having had a look at the Lego webshop for my country, I'm happy to say that there was no price hike for *me* this year, as this thing is the same price as the DB5 or the Countach. I believe we got the price hike a year early, as my Ferrari F8 cost less than this year's haul did.
I'm building this currently for the first time and I think I've misplaced some bits because they are not sitting how they are in the booklet
I just recently got mine last night at Toys R Us (Singapore) and I loved it immediately!
The stock situation is really really bad. Lego have had this set listed on their website for about a month, but they don't take pre-orders. I looked it up again on 1st Jan (the very day of release!) and its gone. Just gone. No option to place a back-order, or include it as part of a larger order to be shipped out later. Nothing. Tough luck.
And they have the audacity to plaster over their website with various offers, such as free postage over £50, or the "gift with purchase", etc. How am I supposed to place an order, Lego?
Well, the cars are really huge, but this one, particularly, able to fit 3 minifigs (not only two front seats but full-sized rear "coach" is here) or even 4a after C-pillars removal.
So, they grows up, yep, but for "civil-like" cars Skyline, Aston Martin DB5, Charger - they also got a fantastic capacity inside, like real 4-to-5 seats family cars.
Why is the drivers seat on the right side?
I agree 10000% that the the design is GR-32 with a GTR-34 front Facsia and rear tailights. However, when the new 2022 Singles come out, I plan on grabbing an extra Pagonia Utopia and replacing the front wheel wells of this skyline with the Wheel Wells fron that as it is the new leveled wheel well/arches that will allow me to get rid of the studs on the top of the hood of this car, because those studs really bother me and right now I have some tiles added just to get rid of the studs, but boxes up the whole front end.
I feel the strongest that the side quarter panel/shoulders are far more GTR-32 suggestable than an GTR-34 as well, and once again I will be using some Pagoni Utopia pieces to see if I can't get a more GTR-34 Shoulders/Quarter Panels!

Got it today. You were right, it looks better live then pictures or videos show.
I'm gonna rebuild this car but with a stock white look. I agree that some of the shaping is off, but the front and rear ends are fantastic! Interestingly, I personally think that the wheel covers are TOO detailed and specialized, and they end up looking out of place. They're very distinctly the wheels on the movie car, but they're shaped too well to be Lego.
Another thing is that at the $25 price point, that's as much as a Red Line Club Hot Wheels car. Sure those aren't easily as available and they sell out super fast, but I got a Nismo R34 with an opening hood and engine detail for $25 +shipping. It looks waaay more like an R34 and is a serious high-end collector's item.

I hope they continue this trend of movie cars, specifically fast and furious because it is definitely something Lego could capitalize off of. I would love to see Suki and her S2000 or even another one with Brian (Paul) and the Supra. That’d be wicked

What bothers me most is the lack of a smooth front. None if the recent 8 by 8 speed champions sets have the exposed top of bricks so this feels like a downgrade
the lego r34 speed champions looks more like an r33 than an r34
the studs on the front bother me much more than they should. In the end the design is a bit lacking but no doubt it will sell very well

It isn't, all of the cars coming out in March are also $25 and the two-pack is a bit more expensive than previous ones of the same part count too. It's part of Lego prices going up all around.

There NEEDS to be a light up kit with this set. I'll never understand the point. In purchasing these F&F Cars if their not included. Especially when the cars there making. Show them with neon lights on in the films. It's like buying a Transformers toy that doesn't Transform.😑😤

I love it actually. I wish they would do more speed champions themes. I hope they do formula 1 theme and get the teams cars out since they did mercedes. They used to do ferrari and had mercedes and mclarens too. Would be cool.
LEGO Fast and Furious Speed Champions they need to make next: Orange Toyota Supra, Lykan Hypersport, Green Mitsubishi Eclipse from the first movie, Dodge Charger Daytona with the big wing from F6, and this one is not F&F but I’d love a white Pagani Zonda Cinque following the Utopia
I think I'll replace the studs on the front for tiles.
Personally the stickers could’ve been transparent with the blue and so on but that’s small I do like it all and if wanted to buy custom parts or make to get the sponsors on to the front and such
