Great review! You're the only reviewer I know that keeps calling out Lego for their bad quality control
And this is the reason why lego won't send him sets to review earlier. respect for that
Cuz others get free stuff from Lego so can't talk bad about them. Another reason why Jang is goat
@@ramizrehman6293 absolutely.
@@ramizrehman6293 100% Agreed!
Not really tho. Jang doesn't want "free sets" because yeah they do come with some agreements, but that doesn't mean he can't criticize them
The prices of these two packs are the most confusing to me every time
Agreed. Last year the jaguar double pack was stunning value but this year the dodge is 5 quid more expensive than the Ford, and 60 less pieces!
Wow, the dark red parts almost look like they're supposed to be different colours.
On first glanse i also thoght so, till Jang called it out. I like the diverent collors tho, had they done it on purpuse...
It's probably not a popular opinion, but I like the fact that the '68 comes with transparent stickers and kinda wish more of the Speed Champions sets would use transparent stickers. That way you'd be able to build the cars in alternative colours and still be able to add the details from the stickers with out having the issue of non-matching colours.
I can imagine the Corvette being painted by a trainee in universe.
Jang, I too am glad you are calling out LEGO on their constant poor quality. LEGO quality has been in decline for a while now, poor colour matching pieces, poor printing, errors in instructions & loose fitting pieces (especially technic). We are paying for a premium product and not getting it. The greed of throwing a ridiculous amount of sets out every year is clearly more important to LEGO than quality of their product. Thank you for an honest review!
Just picked this up during a visit to LEGOLAND New York yesterday. Looking forward to the build.
I’m starting to feel like LEGO stickers > LEGO prints, because at least the stickers tend to be much closer to the color they are supposed to be.
Also prints can be wonky and off-centred
These two cars are some of my favourites they have done recently, I really like how sleek the corvette came out.
Thanks for the review Jang!
Dark Red is a difficult color in general, but I still think LEGO should’ve tried more to be consistent
I don't understand what's up with QC at lego the last few years. I have a boat load of the same 2x2 curved slopes in green for my train just about every one is a different shade and it's really obnoxious
I bought this pack solely for the '68 Corvette, and the dark red on mine is very consistent, unlike on yours. In fact, I also bought extra dark red bits off BrickLink, as I wanted to modify my Corvette to have removable T-tops and opening doors and bonnet, and when they arrived, they were also a perfect match for the dark red that I already had on the car. Lucky me, I guess.
The rear end from the side windows back looks like a 68 charger more than a corvette
Would love to see someone modify the stingray to be more accurate.
The male driver looks like he's rocking chaps, backwards!
It is truly crazy to me how they managed to make the c3 look like an el camino, like I am genuinely impressed
I wonder if the Lego we get in Australia comes from a different factory that has better quality control, because I have never seen such obvious differences in colour like those dark red / dark magenta pieces are.
I'm in NZ, and my '68 Corvette is all the one shade of dark red too. No inconsistencies like on the one in the video.
I don't like the idea of these two-pack. I always feel like I might have bought one of them if they where sold separately, but now I'm not buying any of them because I'm not willing to pay for an extra car that I'm not interested in. If I like both and they are sold separately I can buy both anyway...
It’s looks great and I understand that it gives the designers more room but I still feel that the 6 stud wide builds are better especially for speed champions
Yeah I preferred the 6 wide. The 8 wides don’t work well in a city environment either.
The flaws aside, as a Corvette fan, I HAD to get this on release day. The C3 has plenty of issues, but I still appreciate the attempt, and personally it's good enough for me to love it like the rest of the 8 stud-wide cars
The red one looks great but if you didn't mention the color batch issue, I wouldn't realise it. Thinking of getting one.
Thanks for sharing and also you have been reliable source of review for all of my Lego sets. 😍🙏🙏
Despite the inaccuracies and stuff.. hey those are some pretty awesome looking Lego cars omg
Yeah I bought the set just for the 68 vette. Could care less about the c8.
Jang if you ever had time, it would be awesome to see a mod of the 1968 vette to get the angles better!
Jang, you are the most concise Lego reviewer out there. I really appreciate when you detail the various build techniques used.
The sticker sheet for the red Corvette was missing for me. It is the first time I have EVER had something missing after decades of buying Lego
Love your reviews. Honestly the only LEGO reviewer I watch anymore. It’s so refreshing to see someone so honest and not be so quick to label every set as “epic” and “amazing” Keep up the good work.
Awesome review. I'd love to get my hands on this set for the 68 Corvette. Even with its flaws, it's still my dream car. Plus we can always modify it to fix the back.
As a Chevrolet Corvette enthusiast, I felt this was one of the most realistic car sets yet, my only complaint was the 1968 cars rear end didn’t have a very good curved rear end
One of my favourite set of this wave
Same!!! Even with imperfections
Usually people prefer the classic car in these two pack sets, however the c8 is the star in this set
Honestly for $30 this is great. I'm not much of a chevy person, but I love endurance racing and so the C8.R is going to be welcome
Like the set, not my favourite set this year, (my fave is probably the elva and the ford set) but still nice. Thanks for the great review, Jang!
That is a great US price! Shame they didn’t carry that over into Europe... Agree with the shortcomings of the C3 and the quality control issues
Oof, I thought they stopped doing brand deals with Mobil.
That was shell I believe
YES! another great review by Jang, and another set with extra hairpieces for helmeted Mini-Figs. Jang is due a modicum of credit for this excellent development. MAN the Kid John in me is smiling , wishing Lego did this back when I was he. I used to write to Lego asking them to please sell me hairpieces for my figures, and they always said "NO." Wish we had had a Jang pulling for us back then:)
My favorite set that dropped June 1st 🔥
Great review, thank you. Unfortunately this set is $60 AUD ($43.00 USD) in Australia so the price here does not make up for the design flaws. Even when on sale here Im undecided.
Great review, the techniques used ar what draws me into these sets.
there are gone be a lot of complaint mails and phone calls to LEGO for replacement parts....
It’s really too bad about the c3s rear end, besides that I think these are great builds
Thanks, Jang! I was going to buy this just for the '68 but seeing how bad the production color of parts are and a better angle of the chunky back, I'll save my money now :)
And is Jang the only reviewer who keeps calling out this color quality control?
omg a jang video in my feed, whoa it works. congratulations, standing ovation
Classic JANG music at the end of the review. Very nice
I just bought my c4 corvette! So excited!
Appreciate the honesty and the detail. You just saved me some money.
Great review as always, I hope lego can improve in the quality flaws of this set. Because quality is what makes lego great
Hey Jang, I really love your reviews and how you call out Lego's sort of downgrade in quality!
But I was wondering whether you are going to cover the new Mega Construx Infinite blind bags and/or the other things from the Mega infinite line?
Not a downgrade. The issues he called out have been problems for YEARS. The dark red color matching issue has been like 15 years. More like a lack of fixing a known problem, which might be worse than a downgrade. It’s like they know we’ll buy it whether they fix the quality problems or not.
Wrong channel
Remember, this is Lego. If i need a perfectly shaped model of a car, i'd buy a scale model - there are enough manufacturers out there. I do not expect to build a perfect representation of an old Corvette, but the final build screams Corvette (built with Lego) loud enough. The different colours shouldn't be, but they give the model a nice patina
I think they could've don't a better job with the curves above the rear wheels, using the same 1x4 curved part that's used on the front.
Ordered this set. Hopefully it’s here soon. It’s been 5 days so far. Lol nice video Jang. As always.
Dark red is the most cursed color for Lego, I feel like dark red minifig arms are always the most fragile, too.
Terrific review, and the fact that you are always so meticulous and honest, thank you for that. I hope that it really helps lego that you are pointing out the questionable quality with facts. Because IMO it is a very important point that if you have a worldwide brand and you have so many fans all over the world and of all ages, then you need to have a proper quality control of your products. If nothing is done or said about it then it is possible that it could be a returning issue. Which I hope not ofc. (I am Dutch so I hope that you will understand what I am trying to say and underline here) keep up the terrific work Jang and stay healthy xx
I bought the set last week (France), I'm sorry to say that my 68 Vette has NO flaw on the color, it is perfect color match for every dark red brick.
I always watch closely your SC reviews because they help me so much to put correctly the stickers on and was little bit anxious when I bought that particular set due to the mismatch colors of your 68, so I'm really happy with mine but still being a little bit sad for the Jang's one.
perfect reviews as always! any chance we'll see a daily bugle review soon?
I literally got this exact set on the same day this video came out. Lol. Can't wait to open it up. Hopefully mine won't have as such noticeable change between those reddish brown pieces!
Considering that the 1970’s style corvette was inaccurate I still think (at least the front) that it has a nice sleek design. Anyways nice review!
The roof and rear window areas look different as the C3 evolved over 15 years and for the 68 hard top specifically, this look pretty good
On the '68 Corvette I can recommend to put one 2x4 plate and two 1x2 under each wheelbase to make it less low profile. I also switched out the wheels with last years Nissan GT-R (which are thicker), which made both of these cars look much better.
I wonder how much money Lego saves skimping on all their bad prints.
funny, how Lego explains it's high price tags with "high quality standards" ... but the parts get worse and worse compaired to other brick-based products
Jang is DEAD ON with this review.....although the dark red doesn't bother me....
No durability montage? Lol I’ve been watching some of your old URC videos lately. Good to see you’re still making videos we all miss you in the radio control world 🌎
The Corvettee Looks great :P
I love this set, but I really hate that flat sharp edged roof for the C3, and for the Challenger in the mopar set, hope it will be easy to fix that with some custom modifications. Great review tho Jang, I’ve been a fan since 2015 and I still love your content man!
I like the price of this set both solid cars for £35 is a very fair price. I will pick this one up as soon as possible. I don't know which car I prefer I don't really mind the classic car but the build and shaping for the C8.R looks Spot on to me so I'd have to go with the modern one. Again can't wait to get these.
I looked at my C3 and it looks fine
The US price is a joke. €40 ~ £35 ~ $50...
You're unlucky with the colour differences. Built mine last night and for a change the dark red is fairly consistent.
Printing light on dark is always a problem as you can see here with the yellow on grey and white on black prints. They should have designed the race suit differently so torso and legs could have the same base colour.
For the race car it's not so bad but the fact that the driver of the classic won't fit with anything other than a helmet on their head is really disappointing.
If you don't know much about the prototype then the dark red car is a nice classic car model but it's a shame that with all those complex building techniques the rear just doesn't look right.
I just about agree with you on this one jang
My lego Corvette Stingray got the older wheels and tires from another Lego kit, to solve the tire problem!
Delicious temptation set, picky review though, they are hard to design ! But I'm here because of that precisely, a thorough well thought analysis of each vehicle, thank you. To buy or not to buy 😶
I got this set and i only got a few barely noticeable color defects but it’s mostly the same red
Lime green had discoloration problems aswell from the speed champions Porsche 911 RSR and 911 Turbo 3.0 set
The 1968 Corvette is not as curvy as it should be, way too square, it needs a good rework, but I love the dark red color, the C8 R looks great! But I'm not crazy about the dark grey paintjob, still, cool review, Jang!
Interesting, my classic corvette didnt have nearly as much color discrepancies as yours
Was really excited for the stingray, but think I'll swerve it now. In general I think last year's range was stronger apart from that Lamborghini SUV.
I love them both so much. Mainly the 68 Corvette simply because the more boxy look of Lego bricks suit it. But it's a too boxy when looked from directly above with the cockpit and the rear fenders. I really think they're getting closer though. Plus that beautiful Maroon color. It's too bad they still haven't gotten that color consistency. I only wish it had actual Pop Up Headlights. Probably something their thinking about for the future. I can see that action feature working like the A-Wing spring loaded shooters and very well hidden. Overall, these two vehicles are proof of how far Speed Champions has come and how much it can still improve. Plus good price.😁
I found the gray car half of this set at a thrift store for only 6 bucks. Was missing the sticker sheet and wheel hubcaps. But otherwise a really great find.
I've held a grudge against stickers in Lego sets since I was young, but recently I realized that I don't mind them nearly as much as I thought I did. I think I was avoiding sets with stickers because I was bad at applying them as a kid (My poor Maersk train...) but as an adult I have very little trouble with them. Speed Champions has really opened my eyes in that regard.
Until I saw the photos of the real cars on the box I thought the C3 was supposed to be the previous generation. It looks right from some angles I guess.
As a massive corvette fan myself, i really need them to make a C6 and a C2 model. I agree in part with some negative points on the C3 and the prints being discolored on the C8, but i really do feel like it is worth 30 dollars considering that 1 car is 20 and the other 2 packs are 40 and 50 respectively.
I made mine a convertible.
I have a feeling that the inconsistencies in color are because Lego is making pieces all over the world . Must be hard to logistically source the same plastic or machines or who knows. I’m sure they are trying to figure it out.
Looks like Oliver Gavin in the #4 C8.R GTE!
I am not a great builder but I can think of a couple of pieces lego could have use for the rear of the Corvette 1968 to make it better which I surprise the designers didnt use
Just got this for 20 at Walmart. I’ve bout the rest of what they have… the Elva is the only one left. I don’t like the no windshield look.. and I prefer no stickers.. I love these sets man
Just bought this kit because I realized I haven't owned any lego in 20 years. Kit has its flaws, but overall I really like it considering how good of a value it is. I was lucky in that my 68 red's weren't bad and all matched well.
So the tire and the Wheel are permanently attached to each other but the tire is still rubber ?
I think Jang should try an fix the ‘vette
I like the C3 (even with the detail issues mentioned), just like the Gulf colored Ford... But I don't like the idea to pack them in a double box with some modern boring/unwanted models...
Why couldn't they be sold separately...
I found that the worst thing about this set is the clear backed stickers. I’ve never been able to make them look good. And I didn’t really mind the look of the stingray but after getting the set the stickers having big bubbles under the stickers really makes it look worse than it already is
Jang, you'll be happy to know that they definitely improved the red color mixing, as today I bought this set after it was just put out on the shelves of my nearest LEGO Store. I shined an LED over it and found maybe one piece that wasn't a perfect match of red!
Speeeeeeeeed Champions!!!
Well this is one awesome based review
Well it's also hard Lego can't really make actually a real Lego car like it's so spot-on I think they did a good job with the two cars I'll give it up thumbs up in my opinion they could have been a little better
You really gotta wonder what goes through the mind of the printing QC people when they produce these consistently poor parts.
Nothing much probably. If they keep their job letting these parts go, why would they bother caring?
I don’t get it, does a robot do the color matching and is it unable to detect that noticeable of a shade difference?
I wanted c7 with c8
That was quick. Only the best is good enough Jang :)
Love the R6 siege Jäger elite profile pic
At this point, if Lego aren't going to work on making the white against dark prints actually white, they should just start saying it's very light grey (i.e. Piraka Thok grey). It seems to be a pretty close match. As for white prints against red, probably not so easy as changing the name
(If it's not obvious, this is satire)
how did u get the top to match
I don’t have different shades of red
I prefer the clear backed stickers for things like this, since Lego cannot colour match their stickers.
