Thanks for sharing! I’m buying my first camera and lens. Did you mention in a previous video that the Sony ZVE10 does not have stabilization? What do you do about that when shooting video?
This combo has been my daily carry for going on 6 months now. It's more than good enough at my skill level. Never let perfection be the enemy of good enough.
@@travelgo..4503 I would get at least a 24mm if not a 20mm for landscape, 30 might be a little too tight, you can always crop in a little, you can't crop out. But it definitely wouldn't be a BAD combo for it. I personally would go to something like a 24mm
@@travelgo..4503 And especially for youtube you're gonna want at least a 24mm, I would go with that or a 20mm if you're gonna use it for landscape and UA-cam. 30mm is too close for UA-cam, certainly in my opinion. I would say a decent 24mm is a good shot 👍🏼
I love being able to see you actually do the adjustments, plus the humor and the settings. I could watch these all day. All I do is shoot on my ZV10 and always feel like im not maximizing its potential. This really helped. Your the reason I want to start my own photography channel and UA-cam. That’s my go-to combo for photos and outdoor standing talking head videos, and interviews. Thanks Mark for putting directing me to the ZV-e10 and Sigma lenses for my channel and video production side gig. !!!
The reason I really liked this video is that you went on the street to take some photos. Quite funny when dealing with people. What I see in videos about photography is that there is far too much attention to product, i.e., bodies, lenses, accessories and too little on the art of photography. Certain brand of cameras will not make a person take the world's greatest photos, neither lenses or accessories. It's getting out there in the wild and taking photos. What can a person really do, can they take a photo that tells a story, it is quirky, really different or just the same a what everyone else does. I shot Pentax with limited number of lenses, same with Canon and my two Nikons (F2A and FE2) that I still have. They are 40 plus years old now. Sure, you love Sony, I do to. Absolutely love how the work and feel in my hand. But it comes down to accomplishing the task of getting that picture. It can be in sports or news (which I was involved in years ago). So I hope you get out more, not just your backyard or park, but on those assignments and demonstrate how to use a camera. You seem to really know the tricks of the camera to get great photos. Try that more often than sitting in a studio. The world IS our studio.
Thank you very much Mark for such kind examples with settings and final photo. Looking forward to more such videos with zve10 and your humour and trolling 😅
Hi Mark, dumb question: Why were the pictures less bright than the footages? Which has the more natural light (what I mean by natural is the closeness of vision with the human eye) ? The video footages or the pictures taken with Dougie? By the way: best picture a 9:45 !
The action cams are super bright and punchy - they do that to make the footage look “vibrant”. But it’s really pretty terrible video and even worse for photos. Real life doesn’t really look like action cam footage.
You've got a lot of really great architecture to photograph. Thanks for the setting at the end of the video. I just recently got the camera with the basic lens. Have to save up to get that sigma.
It would be helpful if you could create a video tutorial showcasing all the options on the ZV-E10 for creating cinematic or high-quality videos. Awesome videos btw thanks!
I love my zv-e10. Just bought it late 2023, even just with the kit lens I manage to take good photos on the street and do some product photography. I just bought a 50mm 2.8 macro because after some years with my old nikon dslr, I now know that I often use 50mm instead of 35mm or wider, and sony's macro lens also did great for close up products photography; portrait and street photography, so I think this is my perfect set up. Being said that, I'm thinking about buying this 30mm or the sony 35mm 1.8 with the OSS. What do you think about those two lenses? Which one's for which case of photography, which af is faster, etc. Thank you for the pov video Mark.
Love this whole video, Mark. Love the look, the format, the how-to's, the thumbnail ... it's awesome. Real-life people shots are my fav - cigar-smokin' construction worker was great ... grumbly and great 😄 One of my favorite person shots I've taken so far (besides family) was a grizzled old bartender in Deadwood. He was camera shy, but happy, so let me take a photo. ☺️ Oh, and that was with my ZV-E10 and the Sony 18-105 F4. I find I'm very hooked to that lens since it's the one lens I have that can get so many different focal lengths.
I think the best Combo is the ZV-E10 and the Sigma 18-50mm f2.8 Everything is possible and its compact and ultra light weight. I use this combo also for traveling. Kind regards from Austria!
I bought this combo based on your recommendation early last year. No regrets here - it's a great pairing. If the lens had stabilisation it would be better for video, but for the price you can't argue with the quality.
The 30mm used to be my go to walkaround lens. Now the 18-50 2.8 has taken its place but I've kept the 30mm for sentimental reasons. I just can't sell it and maybe bring it for some night photography. Great video as always Mark! What percentage do you set your zebras? Thanks!
I bought that lens and it was the best decision I made! The difference is day and night with the quality. Sigma produces quality glass fr. Loved it so much I got the 16mm as well
What a fun way to spend a cold wintery afternoon in Toronto! I have the ZVE10 kit lens and the Sigma 16mm 1.4f. Which one would you suggest (and why) for a similar jaunt in the same beautiful city?
I sold this combo when I got the a7iv. I miss it, I will buy it again and have both :) this combo was perfect for my video conferences and the streams for work! Thanks for convincing me again ;)
Thanks for the thorough explanation on the Zebra usage in Aperture and Manual modes. Whenever I’m doing my street photography, I’m definitely gonna be using Aperture mode…….run and gun suits me just fine. BTW, my ZV-E10 and Sigma 18-50 is one hell of a combination. 🍻
Hey Mark, thank you for amazing photo-walk! One thing I’ve noticed, in your “best ZV-E10 settings for photography” vid you said you were using shutter of 1/500 most of the time and 1/1000 for fast moving objects. Here you are using much higher values , from 1/320 to even 1/50 sometimes. Did your workflow change?
out in the daylight when not shooting sports or birds, you can just leave it in aperture priority mode and let the camera choose the shutterspeed. much easier for walking around. I’m the zv-e10 video I was talking about trying to get sharp photos of moving kids - so you’ll have to put it up
love watching videos on the little but big lol, zve 10 I did a lot of review on that camera and made up my mind to buy one after watching the many great videos that you put together, and covered a lot of questions I had before I made the purchase 13 1/2 months ago. Thanks mark for making these videos because they have steered me in the right direction because taking Photos and the option to have great video for YT was just what I was looking for and I've been happy with this camera and surprised with its features all the time .
This is the combo i wanna get as my entry into photo because the zve 10 is way better for me than the 6400 and i really love that the pictures look this good! thx
Hello, from a fellow Torontonian! Thanks to you, I recently took the plunge on the ZV-E10 with the kit lens (found a used version found in Burlington), mostly to film my live performances. It has been great so far; no overheating issues in 70+ minute 4K shoots on stage. I also purchased a cage to attach my Zoom recorder for better audio. I look forward to picking up a prime lens at some point as well. If you like jazz, please come to one of my shows sometime and I will happily buy you a beer. Cheers!
Thank you for taking us on your photo walk. Little nerdy addition to the settings: You photographed with a mechanical shutter, which means that your RAW images have 14bit color depth. In silent mode it would be 12bit.
Do you ever use the histogram or just the zebras…. I’ve never used them only because I didn’t know what settings to use. But seeing it in action was helpful. Ty
I like the zebras because I can so easily tel if my highlights are blown. F course many people prefer the histogram and I use that as well sometimes, I just find the zebras easier.
hey Mark! I’m an actor about to purchase the Sony ZV-E10, wondering your advice… for lenses, I’ve been looking at the Sigma 30mm f1.4, the Sigma 16mm f1.4, and the Viltrox AF 56mm f1.4. I’ll mostly be using this for self tape auditions, but would also love to take headshots for friends and start experimenting with short films. Would any of these lenses be ideal for all of these purposes, or do I need to just focus on one thing at a time and add different lenses when I can afford? Thank you for your time and love the info in your vids!
Sigma 18-50 on Sony A6700 is my go-to combo. Question on zebras - don’t the zebra warnings apply to JPG on screen image? When you shoot in RAW, you should have extra leeway. No? Ever figure out how much leeway?
yes you get a bit more room with raw, but I just set the zebras to 100+ and stay safe with them. as you see in the vid, there’s lots of room to bring back the shadows
I liked the walking footage. I’m trying to get ZVE1 to look smooth when walking with the camera faced forward. I got dynamic steady shot fixed by setting steady shot adjust to auto , but focus bounces around in the scenery. I guess I should stop down more or use the GoPro.
Mark, do more of this, taking your little Duggie out for a walk. This is far better than talking into a camera in a studio. Love to see how people use a camera and their choice of lens/lenses. Being that I live in the desert, Riverside in California, I have to ask you what the white stuff was on the ground. Just kidding. That has to be salt so you don't slip on your arse, right? I like to use either my ZV-E10 or a6700 since both are very small. I will use either a 16mm 1.6 or 10-20 f4 Sony PZ zoom. Other times I will take a longer zoom just to change up. Nice work. Wish that lady didn't turn around. It was so obvious it was funny. I remember one time, many decades ago, I was at a flea market taking pictures only to turn my head left to see a lady with her camera pointed right at me. Weird, weird.
Hi, I just got my camera, is this lenses good for vlogging. I’m new to videography and photography. Whilst I’m on a budget, I still want to get good quality. Love your videos ❤
I bought it for video, but ironically it does photo better than video, except for lack of viewfinder. The reason I don't like it for video is because the stabilization is not good without a gimbal. Tried active steady shot and catalyst and its just not up to my standard. Maybe GoPro has spoiled me. I am going to go to ZV-E1 with IBIS and full frame, albeit with much higher price point. Will probably still use mostly apsc lenses with the crop factor with active stab.
Would love to see side by side comparison of this lens with FF Sony 35mm f1.4 with focus breathing compensation on FF camera. Guess technically it should be +- the same focal length with price difference 5 times.
With my ZVE10 I use mainly my manual Helios 44-2 lense and I have a picture profile I created that compensates for day and night taking or recording video. All I got to do is adjust shutter speed and appeture for proper exposure with auto ISO. Not much time wasted checking anything really so I can get more time to skillfully manual focus on subjects 😂😂😂. I greatly enjoy the satisfaction of a perfectly manual focused image using a good manual lense 😁
Do you shoot in raw? Nobody mentions the error message on the display when you use a fixed focal length and shoot in Raw and you get to the zoom switch.
@@jammaschan Yes I know that. It's just very annoying because I often have to use the zoom switch because it is very loose and the error message is constantly triggered.
@@pixelkiez that's true but oh well it's pretty easy to get rid of the notification and that's probably the only gripe I have with the camera apart from the stupid amount of rolling shutter when shooting in 4k (given its price)
This video helped me get the zve10, I'm not going into professional photography, I need a camera for my plamo ( plastic models), and occasional travel photos. This camera is going to sit on a tripod most of the time anyways
Nice man. I was actually in Toronto for the first time visiting during the holidays so it was nice to recognize some places. Have you thought of using a neck mount (i have a very good one from telesin) for your action 4? I personally hate the chest mount i feel like it’s too much of a commitment. Also, why not carrying a more versatile lens like the sigma 18-50? Anyway cool video man. Enjoyed watching it.
I’ll look at the neck mount. the 18-50 is definitely more versatile, but I wanted to show one of the most affordable lenses that gets the job done. I’ll probably get the 18-50 in some new ones
@markbenett bro should i buy sonyZv-e10 or sony 6400 or any other series as i'm in a tight budget . Cause it doesnt have an Evf but have gimble like stabalization too. I'm thinking to buy this because its under 62k INR 🇮🇳 with kit lens . Only body cost me 52k . But what do you suggest should i wait or arrange some 10 k more and buy canon R50 but it has not option for third party cheap lenses. So im stuck which to buy in sony a6100,a6400,a6600,ZvE-10 or R50 by canon. I need a camera which can be used as both high quality photo and video, Cinematic ,portraits etc. Please recommend me best which will not outdate early.
I'm looking to buy a sigma 30 f1.4 with a sony zve10 to record short podcast clips like you're reviewing in a studio. I have 2 softbox full of light. Will there be hunting when focusing?
no - it won't hunt for focus if you have one person in the shot. If you have two or more people in the shot though, you would be better off setting manual focus

out in the daylight when not shooting sports or birds, you can just leave it in aperture priority mode and let the camera choose the shutterspeed. much easier for walking around. I’m the zv-e10 video I was talking about trying to get sharp photos of moving kids - so you’ll have to put it up
thank you so much! @@MarkBennettCameraCrisis
How do you set the shutter speed automatically
love watching videos on the little but big lol, zve 10 I did a lot of review on that camera and made up my mind to buy one after watching the many great videos that you put together, and covered a lot of questions I had before I made the purchase 13 1/2 months ago. Thanks mark for making these videos because they have steered me in the right direction because taking Photos and the option to have great video for YT was just what I was looking for and I've been happy with this camera and surprised with its features all the time .
great to hear!!
Cheers!
I will look out for a show - and get that free beer!!
Thank you for taking us on your photo walk. Little nerdy addition to the settings: You photographed with a mechanical shutter, which means that your RAW images have 14bit color depth. In silent mode it would be 12bit.
this is true. 👍
Didn't know about that!😮
Thanks a lot!
An a6000 with that Sigma 30mm is still my backup photo cam. I've had some bangers with that thing.
love the zve10, it's still the best bang for your buck these days
Hey Mark, what Zebra settings are you using ? Please share
Have you heard rumors of the zv-e10 ii??? I can't wait!
haven’t heard anything yet, I guess I’ll go on the rumour sites to check out out
Thank you for this, Mark!! Here I was thinking “I need a new camera” - nope. I just need a snappier lens and some time on the streets to experiment.
Yeah my snapshot goto setup. Tho I´m using the Sony 35mm F1.8. You should try it at some point, buildin IS which works amazing on the E10.
Amazing thanks Mark! Where could I learn more about shooting w lil Dougie here in Toronto?
heck out the oldest camera club in canada torontocameraclub.com/
@@MarkBennettCameraCrisis thanks!
This my combo and I was surprised how versatile this lens was 😄
Sigma 18-50 on Sony A6700 is my go-to combo. Question on zebras - don’t the zebra warnings apply to JPG on screen image? When you shoot in RAW, you should have extra leeway. No? Ever figure out how much leeway?
nope, zebra warnings apply to RAWs too. You do have extra leeway, but you will still run into overexposure.
yes you get a bit more room with raw, but I just set the zebras to 100+ and stay safe with them. as you see in the vid, there’s lots of room to bring back the shadows
I liked the walking footage. I’m trying to get ZVE1 to look smooth when walking with the camera faced forward. I got dynamic steady shot fixed by setting steady shot adjust to auto , but focus bounces around in the scenery. I guess I should stop down more or use the GoPro.
it’s really hard to stop the bouncing while walking unless ypusing an action cam - and even then, it still bobs up and down
Mark, do more of this, taking your little Duggie out for a walk.
Also my favourite combo. I have the zv-e10 with the Sigma f1.4 30mm
Will probably still use mostly apsc lenses with the crop factor with active stab.
yes, the stabilization on video is not great
Such a great pictures buddy🎉 what lense do you have on? How do you take beautiful pictures like these?
Sigma 30mm 1.4
Great Video Mark as Always... 👍 I think I will be getting sigma 30mm for my Sony ZV-E10 Rob from the UK
Would love to see side by side comparison of this lens with FF Sony 35mm f1.4 with focus breathing compensation on FF camera.
Guess technically it should be +- the same focal length with price difference 5 times.
Hi Mark how you set your zebra and how to use? Thank you
I set my zebras at 100+
Please Compare Sigma 10-18mm F2. 8 vs Viltrox 13mm f1. 4 with Sony ZV E-10... 🙏🙏
I've put the fullframe Sigma 24-70 f2.8 on my ZV-E10 and I get some great pictures with that as well :) Gotta get this lens someday though
Hi Mark! When you are using prime lense, do you use clear image zoom? or no zoom at all?
you can't use clear image zoom with raw photos. So I use no zoom at all with a prime
Do you shoot in raw? Nobody mentions the error message on the display when you use a fixed focal length and shoot in Raw and you get to the zoom switch.
Well clear view zoom doesn't work when shooting RAW and there isn't a power zoom for the knob to control either so that's why you get the error.
yes I shoot in raw. I’m used to the camera now, so I rarely hit the zoom rocker by accident
@@jammaschan Yes I know that. It's just very annoying because I often have to use the zoom switch because it is very loose and the error message is constantly triggered.
@@pixelkiez that's true but oh well it's pretty easy to get rid of the notification and that's probably the only gripe I have with the camera apart from the stupid amount of rolling shutter when shooting in 4k (given its price)
glad to see videos about Dougie !
You were in the shade for like 80% of the shoot! No wonder what you digits (amongst other things) were frozen. Any plans to do one with the FX30?
natural softbox of skyscrapers!! I will look ointo the FX30 because a lot of people are asking!!
Hey Mark! Can you do a review about the new hollyland Lark m2 wireless microphone?
on the way!!
Fun fact: Mark is responsible for ~73% of ZV-E10 sales
Fr i am one of them
pictures are stunning! with a touch a humor lol! i enjoyed your video mr mark!
Love a good photo walk. Don’t get to do it very often unfortunately. Would love to see your editing process
editing photos video is on the way!!
@@MarkBennettCameraCrisis oh!!! Can’t wait for that one!
Mark can you make a video on kit lense vs 30mm lense video please
Please make a vídeo how to take the best off the zve10 for cinemática vídeos, off course without a tripod 😅, thanks!
Sir can I use this combo for Landscape photography also?
for sure. landscapes can be any focal length. Some people shoot them with a 30
This is so refreshing. Tamron 17-70mm would be so perfect in this situation.
that is one of THE BEST choices for street photography for sure
Thanks for the zebra settings and explanation! I think I take more photos with my ZV E10 than video. Thanks for your knowledge (and entertainment!)
Pls give your review about DJI Osmo action 4
on the way
This video helped me get the zve10, I'm not going into professional photography, I need a camera for my plamo ( plastic models), and occasional travel photos.
Keep those ZVE10 videos coming.
@@MarkBennettCameraCrisis thank you so much
Hey can you review the Sony Zve 10 with the first g master 70-200 mm plz🙏🏾
Great review my friend. I use the same lens on my ZV E10, and loving this lens/ Great video Sir
Hi Mark
Does this camera has auto eye detection and follow for taking photos ?
yes indeed
@@MarkBennettCameraCrisis Thank you :)
@@MarkBennettCameraCrisis In the A6400 vs ZV- E10, you mentioned that ZV-E10 has eye detection and tracking in the video only while A6400 does eye detection and tracking in photo only.
Is this has been changed recently on ZV-E10 like any firmware update etc ?
Thanks in advance. I really like your videos.
We want more videos like this
finally❤ Zve10 x Sig30
