Who knows what so many franchises/settings would look like if Lovecraftian literature never existed? I was shocked that this stuff wasn't more popular when I first read it
Kind of out of the blue, I know. I will be do some lore videos from other franchises, but that DOES NOT mean I will be not doing Star Wars, or even doing less of it. So don't think of it as less Star Wars, think of it as more content overall. My next Jedi Academy episode and my Tusken Raider race video should be out this week. I hope you guys enjoyed something different, and if not, plenty of Star Wars coming this week
Awesome explanation. My only issue is that much of the mythos is continuously evolving with different camps within it since Lovecraft created it... It's confusing to understand what is canon and what isn't, but with so many people contributing to the mythos everything and nothing can be accepted.
That music choice is absolutely perfect. Choosing the dungeon exploring music from Skyrim demonstrates you really understand music and the emotions it is meant to evoke. That music is meant to evoke the same set of emotions that this Mythos evokes deep Primal Fear of that which is unknown far more powerful then comprehension. I have a musical ear and I have to say that choice is a master stroke. As I'm watching the video just before the music queued up I thought to myself the dungeon exploring music would be perfect right about now and then it started
So the way I understand that temple to be is like the distortion of reality in "Inception," and that one stairwell art piece that finds its way into the "Labyrinth."
If fear and agony are from these dark "Old Ones" then where do love and joy Originate. if darkness is from those evil beings then where does Light originate. simply imagine, dark can not penetrate through light, if light is that powerful. Are we not supposed to fear light, as it car tear apart the dark. We fear dark but dark fears light.
No, that would make him Azathoth, whom upon willing itself into existence CAUSED the Big Bang, and by sheer physicality prevented base elements from forming for several eons, until The Great Old Ones split from it's consciousness, and lulled Azathoth to sleep, sealing it in the "space between spaces". Also, it isn't when Azathoth dies that everything ends (frankly, not sure death is even applicable, with Azathoth), but when it wakes up. One theory is that all of reality is the dream of Azathoth.
IA IA CTHULHU FHTAGN Cthulhu dream is our reality, a dreadful projection, when Cthulhu awakens, reality will shatter. (occultists for the caffination of Cthulhu) OFCC .
Cthulhu isn't a water elemental, or had any association with water. That was a mistake of a Lovecraft scholar. If he was of water, the ocean wouldn't keep him from using telepathy under the ocean.
You're right, Dagon, or the salamander deity of Sarnath are water elementals, Cthulhu is a priest of the great Old Ones, far removed from such earthly concepts.
This is the first time I’ve heard R’yleh pronounced like “rai luh” instead of “earl yay”. It doesn’t really matter though since it has other-worldly origins and isn’t meant for the human tongue
TheHorseLady1212 HPL didn't exactly explain it, you get bits and pieces in different stories. His contemporaries also wrote stories about the Cthulu Mythos. I suggest some of his and August Derleth's compilations. Recent works are also available from modern writers.
Hi Horselady! Check out the "Exploring the Cthulhu Mythos" playlist by TheExploringSeries. It's a great intro Lovecraft. His lore is ever-expanding by other authors (George RR Martin even put Lovecraftian elements in his SciFi/fantasy/cosmic-horror writing, like his 1,000 Worlds and ASOIAF universes). Cthulhu is just one character....like Zeus....there's sooo much more! I love the color-mist-monster and the Dreamlands :)
Pretty interesting video but would have been nice if it didn't end on such a pessimistic note. Can't wait for the next lore video I do hope its more positive though.
Thank you for the kind words, but unfortunately, cosmic pessimism and utter hopeless is a major theme for the entire mythos, so I can't really rid of that. It would be like taking away space travel from Star Wars; it's one of the mythos' biggest characteristics.
Cthulha is an alien? Wow i thought it was dark shit, that's eh, so we could drop on nuke on him and make him cry, or maybe all 2400 assummed nukes? Scary is what weapons can't hit, inside use. I really thought this was dark and evil for halloween, aliens who do nothing by make bad dreams is not it
It is based on reality, and sometimes makes brief appearances in other franchises. As Xavier Ford commented above, there is a short story where the Cthulhu mythos and The War of the Worlds cross together. There is also a Sherlock Holmes setting where Sherlock investigates in the Cthulhu mythos. A more simplistic example is that the zombies in one of the Call of Duty games is an event triggered by Cthulhu. Because the Lovecraft's writings are public domain (meaning anyone can use them for whatever they want), many franchises like to use the characters, or create a setting based on the Cthulhu mythos. There isn't much of a continuity in the Cthulhu mythos, so the setting encourages speculation and creativity from the readers.
SciFi Soup oh k cool thanks for replying. I really enjoyed the vid as I love weird history stories like this and found it really interesting and is cool to know its true
There is no canonical pronunciation of the word. Technically whatever pronunciation one uses is always correct because it is stated in the lore that the word wasn't meant to be pronounced by the human vocal system, and is impossible to pronounce as it was originally intended.
Why wouldn't you let the listener know that Cthulhu was a creature created in the mind of HP Lovecraft? It would only seem reasonable to inform them who created it and give him credit.
This is a lore video, meaning only in-universe knowledge is discussed. Plus, Lovecraft being the writer of The Call of Cthulhu is just as well known as Tolkein being the writer of Lord of the Rings. There will be plenty of discussions on the author himself in future videos.
cthullu was how lovecraft delt with his anexity disorder. cthullu is a manifestation of human fear and anexity.
Matthew Smith Yes. I wonder how he'd deal with Autism and how he'd manifest it
Sounds like the chaos gods from 40k, even though they came about 40-50 years later
that gave me cancer from reading it
Matthew Smith and water
All religions and gods are made by man your point
Nice! Finally some of the great, but often overlooked Lovecraftian lore. Read some of the books in the holidays and I can just say they're great!
Who knows what so many franchises/settings would look like if Lovecraftian literature never existed? I was shocked that this stuff wasn't more popular when I first read it
This was ten times better than the explanations by more popular videos.
This is a scary story you would tell over a fire when you're out in the woods lol
while smoking weed
Master Of Disguise
Ditto👍🍻
Master Of Disguise ...While you're sacrificing to Cthulhu.
Sandra IMA HAVE A HEART ATTACK JESUS 😰😰😰😰 TRUE BUT LORD BLESS EVERYBODY THERE 😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😰😰😰😰
@@reneepates5526 what
A video that explains it well that's not cringey or bad quality. Great job!
Kind of out of the blue, I know.

more coming for sure!
I love this!
thank you!
hey, im a little interested with the story about the sailors, what is it called? if you dont mind me asking
MrRingo 75 Its part of the call of Cthulhu story ... the story is made up of smaller sub stories - interlinking to form a whole. Hope this helps.
Dude, I Am Down For More Videos Of This!!!
Look forward to when you decide to do all of them. But I really hope to see info on Hastur, Yog-Sothoth, Glaaki, and Abhoth
Look up the famous “bloop sound”
Research it’s coordinates, and the coordinates of R’yleh
Awesome explanation. My only issue is that much of the mythos is continuously evolving with different camps within it since Lovecraft created it... It's confusing to understand what is canon and what isn't, but with so many people contributing to the mythos everything and nothing can be accepted.
Lovecraft? _LOVECRAFT!?_
I fucking love this! Why did you never tell me you were an H.P. Lovecraft fan?
Glad you like it dude, and I thought we have talked about it before? Thanks as always mate!
SciFi Soup Nah. We talked about Godzilla, but not HP. Regardless, Cthulhu fhtagn.
+Wulf Midknight Cassandra cain???

Thx
Nah. Have u saw 8:54😖
great job. really enjoyed this one.
Thank you, I am happy to hear it mate
I’d love to see more like this; perhaps for Naryarlahotep, Shub Nigarath, or Yog-Sothoth.
This was Amazing, I hope you do more
Thank you, I am glad you enjoyed! Definitely more to come
SciFi Soup I'm So happy your back. This is great lol :-)
Thanks dude I appreciate it :)
Ah yes, the great squid-faced inspirer of many monsters, stories, weird (disturbing) “art,” and especially
Awesome metal music
Great video, thanks for sharing. Keep up the good work.
So the way I understand that temple to be is like the distortion of reality in "Inception," and that one stairwell art piece that finds its way into the "Labyrinth."
Finally, his story. A character's bio. Thanks.
6:32 Why the Skyrim music?😂 I thought this was about Cthulhu not Hermaeus Mora
Lmao actually tho
Hermaeus Mora is basically Yog Sothoth, Cthulhu’s grandfather
you using bloody skyrim cave theme song? that's hilarious
2spooky
Wills Spangler Glad I'm not the only one that noticed.
just tell viewers the elder things kick Cthulhu's ass already, give them some hope among horrors xD

0:57 is the album cover of "swallowed by the ocean's tide" by Sulphur Aeon, a German Lovecraft-themed black/death metal band.
Well done, Soup. 👍
6:30 skyrim music ^^ Silent footsteps, nice choice..
Cthulhu is nothing. I am the most powerful being. The moment I die all else will cease to be.
mate u aint no azathoth
Wills Spangler he'll cease too ;)
I cant prove you wrong on that XD.
Same
I'm a big HPL fan. My personal favorite is Hastur, the King in Yellow (sounds GoT-ish), the air elemental.
I think I might have to read some of these books.
IA IA CTHULHU FHTAGN

Im a lovecraft fan but seriously, lovecraft sounds like a band name
i have always been interested in hideous monsters
The Reapers from Mass Effect are obviously inspired by Cthulhu... It's plain to see, watching this video...
The only thing that prevents him from escaping the sea temple he lies in is a hero from a different world
A world known as Terraria
SO GOOD.
Can you do a video about some lesser known outer gods, like yidhra and ngyr korath? Pleaseeee T.T
That skyrim soundtrack tho
I LOVE these vids
Steeze very inciteful.
Glad to hurr it m8
Lol I see you used the Skyrim music. Nice

Subbed for being a lovecraft fan :D
would really want to see what you could come up with for Azathoth, the Blind Idiot God
We will definitely get to Azathoth!
Have you done a vid on the king in yellow?
No, but I absolute love the King in Yellow so I will be starting on that shortly after my computer arrives
Awesome, can't wait to see it.
this isn't star wars... :o
i like it! :)
Definitely not Star Wars haha, I am glad you like it!
This is the first time I’ve heard R’yleh pronounced like “rai luh” instead of “earl yay”. It doesn’t really matter though since it has other-worldly origins and isn’t meant for the human tongue
its ok i didnt want to sleep anyway
Who'd Win? Cthulhu at full power Or Alduin From The Elder Scrolls At Full Power? I'd be Amazing to watch!
Cthulhu is basically just a ''priest'' serving and worshipping an even greater god than him (Azathoth, Yogg Sothoth)
Alduin all the way!
Where can I get more info about that war between Cthulhu and the other entity you mentioned at the beginning?
TheHorseLady1212 HPL didn't exactly explain it, you get bits and pieces in different stories. His contemporaries also wrote stories about the Cthulu Mythos. I suggest some of his and August Derleth's compilations. Recent works are also available from modern writers.
you can look up ''at the mountain of madness'' italian animation to see a more visual version of the war with cthulhu and the elder things
Hi Horselady! Check out the "Exploring the Cthulhu Mythos" playlist by TheExploringSeries. It's a great intro Lovecraft. neat! thanks Wonders
TheHorseLady1212 yeah in that war cthulhu & his spawns got beat by an Archangel. And that how cthulhu got seal off.
2:41 to 2:50 i am pretty sure it is from skyrim i think it is from Mirak's cult
Around 6:46 it sound like the skyrim dungeon music
Interesting
H.P. Lovecraft characters should have been used on the TV show....the x files
O would like to find all the Lore Of Mythos Deities back ground like this but in text form. For use in game and story creation
Cool video 😈
Will you do more?
I will, The King and Yellow will be next :)
@@SciFi_Soup so I take you've seen the yellow sign?
If Cthulhu is one of the weaker Lovecraftian horrors, why is the most iconic?
Llewelyn Shingler Probally due to his prominence on Earth. He is talked about more.
Because he was the first
What does that sentence of seemingly random letters in your description mean?
to think that Cthulhu isn't even close to might of the outer gods
Even the beings which we can't understand, can't understand the beings above them
yeah they make everyone look like lowlifes
I spy...the Enclave.
R'yleh: early-ay
Did anyone else catch the Skyrim music?
When is the next video?
6:50 skyrim music?
Pretty interesting video but would have been nice if it didn't end on such a pessimistic note. Can't wait for the next lore video I do hope its more positive though.

Does cyclopian mean made by cyclops?
Wasn't Cthulhu based on Lovecrafts Anxiety Disorder?
yeah, and his fear of the ocean.
VILGAX VS CTHULU
soup is the yellow king ( or the being pretending to be it ) a outer god?
SciFi soup Can you do some more of those Star Wars alien species video's I love those things.
He is the son of Yog-Sothoth and the half-brother of Cthulhu, so that would make him a great Old One
there will always be plenty of Star Wars race videos, I'm hoping to have Tusken Raiders out this weekend
SciFi Soup "Thats great" thank you for the reply. Love your channel :)
Nyarlathotep
Why do I hear Skyrim music?

I really have a hard time telling if this is based on the Star Wars mythos or real life mythos.
TVZupata Music & More! This is completely separate from star wars
Darth Vader is it based on reality or some other fantasy franchise?
Im not the most knowledgeable person on the subject but Im pretty sure the mythos is a series of novels written by H.P. Lovecraft
It is based on reality, and sometimes makes brief appearances in other franchises. This is my 1st time hearing this, can someone help me w/ this??? Im confused AF!!!
What are you confused about?
I Subscribed for Star Wars not Squid Lore from a Horror Story Written in The 1920s
I gotta say i know its only lovecrafts fault but i really hate it when people mispronounce r'leh
There is no canonical pronunciation of the word. Technically whatever pronunciation one uses is always correct because it is stated in the lore that the word wasn't meant to be pronounced by the human vocal system, and is impossible to pronounce as it was originally intended.
Its just lovecraft story guys or is it real!!?????????????????????????
