Yeah, unfortunately, the AI voice kinda threw me off a few times. Sometimes it stops in the middle of a sentence, sometimes it doesn't stop when it should, sometimes it pronounced things incorrectly (in a mythos where it's already hard to pronounce things, lol) Aside from that, all the research, editing, and scripting for this vid was done well
@@thegamersconclave8709 That's a great idea, actually! I think I'll give that a shot. I had to do the same thing when listening to the audiobook of an actor who slurred from long-term drug abuse. Idk why I didn't think of that for this lol
I’ve been an avid fan and reader of Lovecraft’s work since I was a teenager and this is the first time I can say I actually understand the bulk of the Cthulhu Mythos universe and its timeline. Great video!
@@cosmicandbodyhorror I'm definitely looking forward to it! Would you ever consider doing novels explained as well? Because I love the body horror surrealist sci-fi genre but I also feel like I'm just not quite smart enough to see what they're getting at a lot of times 😂 for example I'm reading through Annihilation (a Sci Fi body horror book series by Jeff Vandermeer) now. And I feel like the themes and symbolism is going over my head most of the time. 😭
Funny thing about the Elder Things is the group that came to Earth are basically an amish group who rejected their extremely high tech and focused more on biology. There is a colony of Elder Things somewhere on the galaxy in a binary star system I believe
The Cthulhu Mythos Timeline is an entertaining and edifying labor of love which although completely worthwhile suffers from a slight unevenness on various levels but is, ultimately, a must-listen for Cthulhu enthusiasts.
I really like this. It’s very much like what I imagine any timeline in an actual Mythos story to be. Every record inside the Mythos is the result of dark experiments and the madness that comes to all who are even slightly successful in learning any of it. Even those who acquire the most informative volumes are incapable of making sense of what they find. They always require more knowledge from other volumes that are themselves incorrect, incomplete, and even incomprehensible. It’s an endless cycle of madness. It’s contradictory. It’s unimaginable. It’s hopeless. This is good. Well done!
But its barely a timeline at all. He tells us what happened a billion years ago, then suddenly jumps to a half hour long summary of a Lovecraft story involving the alien/monster billions of years in the future.
Lovecraft left his universe open to expansion by future authors. There's no canon or non-canon outside of the works he wrote himself. There were no appointed successors and his works are in the public domain. Nothing can be commissioned or formally deemed "canon" because it's not officially an IP with established gatekeepers, publishers, or surviving family members who own the rights. Many of the works in this video are interesting spinoffs. I wish the Lovecraft universe was more fleshed out and these stories, written by credible authors, do that. There's too much potential in his universe and it'd be a shame to leave it unexplored.
@@ziadhulhok who cares, it was enjoyable and nice to hear, i mean if someone wants to be really informed about it they should buy the books and read only the cannon, but i still enjoyed this video
@@NecrontierGoBrrrr well this is almost equivalent of saying that you are studying something only for fun even tho you know the actual study is infinitely more fun than this. Because the actual cosmological video on the Cthulhu mythos is far more crazy than you understand. Arguably the largest in fiction and remember that The Supreme Archetype is the ultimate Master of the Cthulhu mythos. Not azathoth. He is fodder on his own verse.
Hard pills to swallow: most of Lovecraft wasn't Lovectaft. Lovecraft was participating in an already existant occult fanfiction, and even in his publishing career, he had original contemporaries doing the same thing. Not even Poe dreamed in a vacuum. Lovecraft succeeded in making this ongoing cosmic-horror "dreamtime" to become real and immediate to the daily life and banalities of the segregated south. It is now the "Cthulhu mythos" because of this exceptional genius.
this voice doesn't sound real to me, i often get this uncanny vibe that makes me feel like it's AI generated, but then again sometimes i do think it sounds like a real person but maybe with f*kd up speech patterns from a disability of some kind or maybe english not being the speaker's original language. ...idk, but i don't like that i can't tell and it does sound fake to me at times. it makes it hard to focus.
Well done and contradictory as the people who came after Lovecraft as far as continuity goes 👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻 Cthulhu isn't a high priest of Azathoth or this would have been mentioned in call of Cthulhu in examples of the temples he had built to Azathoth , even Lovecraft didn't try to establish such continuity in his own work but preferred flowery expressions and descriptions over solid continuity, All of Cthulhu references to his god Azathoth are non existent so no not a priest of anything because nothing is preached. It's Ok to have this inconsistent timeline as an outline. The mythology progressed beyond Lovecraft and without supervision or moderator so, it already happened and was explained as such and such by each Author without anyone in charge of continuity. If words really represented their literal meaning you could make a more accurate narrative.
It’s supposed to be contradictory and inaccurate. No mortal may know all the mysteries. Each neophyte is only given a glimpse at what lies beyond before they are consumed. Those who come after learn only fragments of those glimpses that were recorded by those who are no more. None can with certainty say what is true or false, right or wrong, real or imagined.
I've had a dream of the big eye with tentacles, made a horrific deep resonating sound and it's tentacles had been attached to people's brains pretty much creating a network of human minds but these people didn't know how much of themselves was enslaved or influenced by this thing from a different realm. I've had the dream before i started looking into h.p love crafts works..
Lets make a video about the timeline of events in the cthulhu mythos *Video is mostly made up of non lovecraft works* I mean I get that lovecraft wasbt very clear at times and didnt really attempt to connect most of his stories, but its hard to call it a timeline of the cthulhu mythos when most of the stuff isnt even from lovecraft.
Yep that's what happens when other authors get involved. It was inevitable, even though Lovecraft wanted others to expand on his stories, that they'd stray heavily from the essential themes that he put down. I enjoy the other stories for what they are--science fiction with some Lovecraftian elements
It didn't even start with H.P. Lovecraft. There were clear antecedents, with Ambrose Bierce, Edgar Allen Poe, Robert W. Chambers and in the case of the Dreamlands stories, Alfred, Lord Dunsany all preceding Lovecraft. Stuff to do with Hastur, Carcosa and Lake Hali came from Bierce and Chambers. At the Mountains of Madness re-interpreted Poe's Narrative of Arthur Gordon Pym of Nantucket.

It contains stories from other authors. Most of the Cuthulu Mythos are from other Autors. Lovecraft thought it is a good idea if other authors expand on those stories. You can’t really make a timeline with only Lovecrafts work because some of his stories just doesn’t connect.
