- My XP printer stopped working and the error on screen was the ink pad is at the end of service life contact Epson support. For £10 and about an hours work it's simple and very cost effective for any DIY enthusiast to do the same. See below and the end of the video to see where I ordered the new ink pads from and the access code needed to reset the printer.
Video covers XP-500, 520, 540, and XP-600 to XP-860 models (XP-510, 530 use same pads but different installation approach).
Excellent video. I just replaced the ink pads on my XP-830 by watching it. I doubt seriously that I would have figured it out without your help.
Amazing! I thought I would have to buy a new printer, but after watching your video, I was able to fix it and resume printing for less than $20! Thanks for the excellent video, and even more importantly, the very clear explanations! Greetings from "across the pond"!
Thank you SO SO MUCH!!
By following your instructions i was able to get the potty out only 2 variation btw your & my printer.😮
New pads cost $7. Washing took too much time & distorted size of pads.
Im 80 yrs old so if I can do it so can you.😅
DONT WAIT til printer shuts down completely to change ink pads.......or RESETTING will be more difficult😊
I rarely comment on UA-cam but this video has been absolutely brilliant. I successfully replaced the inkpads and reset the waste ink counter on my Epson XP750 with ease. Thank you Tristram O!!! 😊😊😊
With the guidance of your excellent video, I was able to remove the blackened waste ink pads (when I tried to wash them they dissolved!). I ordered new pads, easily installed them, watched your video step-by-step and successfully reassembled the printer (Epson XP-830). I ordered the code from OctoInkjet, received it immediately, watched their super video and viola!! I have a working printer again! Many, many thanks!
Thankyou. What a great video.I was about to give up when I came across it. I have dismantled my printer now and just waiting for a new potty with the the new pads all in it which you can get now. Hope my software experience is as good as yours when I do the reset. I had about £40 pounds worth of inks so am wanting to get a bit more life out of it.
Update. I got the new potty and put it all back together (my printer is an Epson XP-640 but it was very much the same) downloaded the programme while I was waiting for the post to arrive. Then followed instructions and all went smoothly. Unplugged USB Cable and checked again and yes printer all working. Thankyou very much for this easy to follow video. How kind of you to offer it. I can now use all my stash of inks and saved myself a load of money on a new printer.
I would really like to thank you for an extremely straightforward set-up/repair/OctoInkjet contact info which has saved me a couple of hundred pounds - MUCH APPRECIATED! Simple to do in 15-20 minutes after watching! Cheers bud!
Totally legit & so very helpful! Thank you!
Tristram O,
Thank you for an excellent video about replacing the ink pads on an Epson XP 800 printer, once their full. You would not believe how much time I've spent searching for this exact information. I am so grateful for your concise, easy to understand explanation about this process. Many Thanks. Garry👍
Finally got my parts and did this with your guidance. I can't thank you enough. Epson emailed me saying it's time to buy another printer. I love the XP-810 and you can't get printers with these options anymore. Hopefully I'm good as new now.
This video just saved me the cost of a new printer. Worked perfectly for XP-760. Replacement ink pads and reset key obtained from Octoinkjet for £14.95. Thank you for the very clear instructions.
Worked perfectly for an XP-640.
Why can't manufacturers make such clear, easy to follow user manuals.
Very well done. Found WIC pads from China for like $6US. Took about 15 minutes to complete the entire process of disassembly, clean tank, replace pads and reassemble. I have been a lifetime user of epson products and it is totally disappointing to have them declare a product obsolete and make it non-functioning through software. Thank you for the video.
Excellent, followed the really clear video and instructions and really pleased that I could extend the life of my perfectly usable XP-620 printer. Never knew that there was such a thing as a ink potty! or a finite print number.
Excellent and like other users really pleased that I could “recycle” my XP-620, rather than putting a perfectly usable printer into landfill. For my XP-620 the instructions are slightly different. At 06:14 it says there is no need to remove the front screw (part of 2) holding the tank in place, for the XP-620 you do need to remove this screen
Your very detailed instructions were extremely helpful for ink pad replacement and reset of my printer, an Epson XP-630. I followed your instructions step by step. With the soiled ink pad you have to be double careful and use plastic gloves and a plastic bag. In cleaning out the excess ink reservoir I also have a helpful suggestion. Spray Oxi Clean Laundry Stain Remover in the reservoir, swish it around and rinse with hot water. Even drying out the reservoir with a paper towel, the towel was completely clean. The messiest part of the procedure was the easiest. With your fantastic instructions, and my little helpful hint it makes a complicated procedure easier than I thought. Thanks again.
Thank you so much. My trusty epson xp 610 is now up and running again. Octoinkjet were as good as you said and new printer pads and reset key arrived promptly. I did go against your advice and tried to wash out my old pads. What a waste of time. After numerous rinses I binned the soggy pads and spent quite some time clearing up the mess. Thank you again. 😊
Many thanks for your brilliantly clear and helpful instructions. I've gone through the whole process without any problems and the printer now appears to work perfectly. My printer is an XP-630 so not identical but it is nevertheless essentially the same machine.
Interestingly, I did not even need a reset key at the end but simply switched on the machine and it worked straight away. I reused the old pads which I think will be just fine. One word of advice: put on gloves if you rinse and reuse the pads! I didn't and I will now have inky hands for the next few weeks...
The printer has been a totally reliable workhorse for years so no complaints there but I am disappointed that Epson are making it so difficult to service and repair. Their online help pages are directly misleading and unhelpful.
As Gary said below, an excellent video, easy to follow. It works exactly as the video for an XP-760, no hiccups, no cross words. Well done Tristram O.😃
Just a note to say thank you for the detailed explanation, like other folks I don't have the same printer as you but this is essentially the same process for the XP-520 which worked flawlessly.
Where did you buy the ink pads from?
Thank you kind sir, worked a treat.
The XP-860 did start throwing up this error before we ordered the replacement + key, but it was intermittent.
After the replacement arrived, the printer was still working, so we just waited about 10 days until it was permanently erroring - then replaced.
I think if you fail to do that, the printer software more that likely will still see the ink waste pot as full - not sure, didn't want to risk it.
Excellent tutorial. Thank you very much. I can also add that the steps, screws, colors, etc are all identical for the XP-830. The part number for the waste bin (w/pads) is Epson part # 612162.
Hi, just to say 'Thankyou' without your video I would not have had the confidence to try this, followed your instructions to the letter and also purchased the pads and reset code from Octoink, no issues with either it was easy and I'm not really computer confident. (we still had pencil and paper when i was at school!) -thanks again.
I've had this problem on my XP530 which is the same principle and this has given me the confidence to have a go at replacing the pads myself. I've ordered a complete pads/reset kit from Octoinkjet for £17
Go for it. All going well you’ll be up and running again.
Just heard from Epson Service Centre. Their charge would be £48 + the hassle of returning it to them, with an estimated wait of 2-3 weeks.
Brilliant easy to follow video on how to replace ink pads and reset the printer counter. Well done, you got my printer working again for minimal cost. Thank you.
Thank you so much for this video. I appreciated videotaping putting the printer back together or I would have had to do a lot of rewinding. I did this with the help of my 12 year old son. I normally would never attempt anything like this. We were able to replace the filters, follow the instructions for the key code (watched another video for that), and continue using our printer. Saved time and money. So happy!
Spot On. For £13.50 I get a key and New Pads. My Epsom XP-605 up and running again. Thanks for the spending the time on the video. Very Good!
Many thanks for this, was successful on my XP-830 (I replaced the entire tank) and a WIC Reset Key, all good to go
Your video was a pleasure to use. I was able to follow the ink pad replacement with confidence that the needed steps were taken. Thanks again for a thorough presentation of the task.
This is the best instructions, I have done it 3 times very successfully! I had to pause the video and start so I can follow as I go along, I highly tecommend this video, THANK YOU SO MUCH, it beats being a new printer!
Excellent video. Many thanks. Just sorted my Epson XP-800. I didn't find the paperwork from Printerpotty particularly clear, but your video helped to do it with confidence.
Agree with your assessment Ray. We're currently replacing the images in our printed instructions, with ones from one of the white coloured printers to make those easier to understand and follow.
The best step-step, easy to follow instructions I have ever watched on UA-cam!
Thank you.
Glad it was helpful!
Hi, can I just say -thank you for taking the time to do this video - it was perfect thanks.
& also to anyone that stumbles on this video - I also bought the pads & reset code from octoink & it was great - no issues at all with either the pads or reset code - & with the help of this video it all went really well - thanks again.
Thank you for this excellent video. I have just purchased the kit and hopefully will be able to get a perfectly good machine back working again.
I so hate having to throw kit away that, with a bit of effort, can be bought back to life.
All sorted. Though I seem to have a silver screw left over.
Very easy, and straightforward
You need to be comfortable with handling a screwdriver and not frightened to bend plastic. The rest is a doddle.
The windows software is so easy to use. You do need a USB connection between PC and printer though.
48 hour delivery for the pads via royal mail so reasonably quick
@@richardauckland4191 That spare silver screw was probably the one that secures the front of the waste pad holder. Lots count of the times we forgot that step while we've done this process :) Luckily the lugs on the front of the pad holder will stop it from falling out so it's not needed.
DUUUUUDDDDEEE!!!! Thank You. That was absolutely awesome. Saved me from having to get a new printer. Instructions were clear and precise. Anyone can do this.
I don't normally comment on UA-cam but this is absolutely bloody brilliant. Have just fixed my XP-750 using your video and a £16 kit from Octoinkjet and my ageing printer is born again. Massive thank you !
You're welcome!
Thank you, Thank you, Thank you!
Your tutorial has made my 850 printer (which went into end-of-life mode) become like new again. So easy to follow and so effective.
Thanks again.
I have the Epson XP-410. I ordered my new pads from Walmart and the pads came preinstalled in exact same case as on my printer, however, to install in this model, you close front control panel and paper load. Put printer standing up on panel end, remove one screw and use a flat head screw driver to move tab on left top corner and lift panel out. New pads preinstalled in case go in the same way old one removed. Changed pads that were 10 years, 11 months, 2 weeks and 3 days old. I print a lot and the old pads and assembly were not only filthy and full of ink but the entire space was full of dust, etc. and I blew the entire space out with Blow Off Computer Duster in a can before installing new pads. Now I just need to find a key to reset new printer pads so I can start printing again. It took me about 5 minutes to change the case with new pads and I'm 76.
Thanks so much for posting this - I bought the same kit as you, with a key, followed your video and it worked perfectly - thank you 🙂
You're a true hero for uploading this video! It couldn't be more helpful than this. Very clear instructions. After replacing the pads, when I was about to reset the waste counter, I had a message saying my printer didn't require resetting the waste counter but I did it anyway.
Thank you soooooo much. I had this same problem with my XP720 and couldn’t find any tutorials for that model but luckily enough is exactly the same as your so I was able to fix my printer. Appreciate you taking the time to record the video and sharing. Greetings from Spain :)
Thank you for the comment and so pleased you got it to work again.
Thanks so much for this video. I have just finished replacing pads and resetting my printer, could not have done it without your step by step video. Working as new and saved me having to buy a new printer when this one is still working well.
Thank you!!! Your video saved me from buying a new printer. Your video was easy to follow and gave all the helpful hints I needed.
Phil Teale
So easy I just could not believe it 30 minutes Pads change reset printer up and running again A BIG THANK YOU Octinkjet complete package £13.45 Great Value.
Thank you for helping me unbrick my XP-820! I would’ve made a mess of trying to get the ink pad out without your help. Many thanks!
Really good video, very clear and methodical. Thank you for taking the time to record it so thoroughly. Just replaced pad on my XP-760 and the disassembly/assembly process worked exactly as in the video.
Great video thanks. I have pads arriving in the mail tomorrow from Octoink for my XP 860 and your video will be very handy as a double check! However, I reset the counter the other day with Octoinks utility and a new code and as you found it was so easy and seamless. I actually did it on WiFi and it worked perfectly I have a strong stable connection from my laptop to printer and was pretty confident it wouldn't be a problem. Many thanks. As you say, the actual error is purely a page limit (20,000 or thereabouts I think) and not the condition of your Printer Pad as such. So if like me you reset the counter with an online download of code and utility from Octoinks it does resurrect the printer though I would recommend replacing the pads soon after. Many thanks.
Daaaaaamn. I got worried that when I turned the printer off & on again, that it'd still come back with the "ink pad has reached the end of its life" msg. (My inbuilt pessimism module 😏)
However, I was pleasantly surprised to see the thing return to normal operation.
Much respect, my man. Your video will be saved and/or downloaded...👍🏿👌🏿👍🏿
@Anita Hiltz ...???!! 🤨
I'd like to add my thanks and congratulations to the man who made this video - it's absolutely excellent! His calm, clear voice delivered such precise detail - I just felt a confidence doing the job with his video playing as a guide. Pure brilliant - thank you!
great review
i ordered the parts and code for the epson XP-610 from octoink and 4 days later i have a fully working printer
thanks
So incredibly simple w/ your expert instructions! $35US and 20 minutes time, saved me from having to buy a replacement printer... Thanks so much!
Thank you so much for your easy to follow video, we got the ink pads with tray from Unicomp for old Epson model XP 530, for £2.45 plus postage £8.45. And we’ve managed to insert pad tray as you directed, put everything back together again. Also we were very surprised, but we didn’t need to reset, the printer reset itself, and is working. Big thanks
Thanks very much for your excellent video Tristram O, I have just successfully replaced the waste ink pads on my XP-760 so no new printer required down to you!
Thank you so much for your instructions. I probably wouldn't have attempted to do this but thought 'why not' when I saw how clear your instructions were. Printer is now working again and I'm happy! Thank you SO much.
Thank you for the feedback. You have made my day as that is exactly what I was hoping for; fix and keep it going!
Hi Tristram - thank you very much for taking the time to record and upload this extremely helpful video.
I have just completed the process on my elderly XP-610 and everything went very smoothly.
The only thing I would note is that my connection is wireless over my home office network rather than by ethernet or USB cable, and it worked just fine, no issues.
I took the opportunity to update the firmware using the official EPSON utility, clean and realign the heads, and it is working very well indeed - good for another 8 years I reckon!
I don't use this printer for photos - just normal office duties - and I've put all sorts of pattern cartridges through it with no issue at all - it's more sensitive to good quality paper for the kind of work it does.
Once again - thanks for the video!
Brilliant! Saved me £100 on a new printer - thanks so much. Great step by step commentary as well as visual.
This is an excellent descriptive video..easy to follow too. My printer is an XP-820 so slightly different, however, because the video wwas so well put together it was very simple to change the Ink Pads and reset my machine. For just over £10.00 it saved the cost of a new printer. Well done.
Just did this process on my ten-year-old Epson XP-810 and it worked beautifully, printing even better than it was before. Thank you!!
Great to hear!
Thank you very much for taking the time to go through the process, which has made it much easier for me to fix my father-in-law's printer.
Followed this step by step and my printer is now working perfectly. Thank you for being so detailed and clear.
Many thanks for this video. I followed your instructions, to the letter, and now the printer is restored. Very much appreciated.
You're welcome!
Dank u wel! Perfecte handleiding. Mijn 830 doet het weer, voor €20,70! Daarvoor heb ik geen nieuwe printer. Zelden zo'n duidelijke instructiefilm gezien.
Yes - agree with comments - very helpful video - thanks. (Procedure is same for XP-600).The error message took me by surprise! Have been using non-Epson inks and ran into trouble because cyan jet got blocked. Flushed OK but then printer refused to work with non-Epson cartridges! Then I I got the inkpad message. Washed the existing ones but messy! Haven't put them back yet as still wet but I assume they will be OK, at least for now. Will buy a replacement set just to be safe. Next I need to do reset. :-)
UPDATE: OK got a reset code and the reset utility program. Worked fine but a bit of an obscure process. I don't see why a user should pay for the privilege of resetting their printer when a normal part of the useage cycle shuts it down. Seems bizarre and somewhat exploitative. Epson should give a reset code free shouldn't it? And how do third party vendors (Tom, Dick and Harry) get the right to issue reset codes? Money for nothing it seems. An odd setup all round. Still, printer's working again thank goodness and couldn't have done it without this video. When I reassembled it I had a screw left over!! No problem just had to backtrack and found the empty screw hole ... Thanks again.
Wow thank you so much! It was so easy to follow along exactly with the instructions in this video and my printer is up and running again!! I used another commenter's tip of using a piece of tape to help guide that one tricky screw in , which worked really smoothly.
Wonderfully clear - just cleaned my waste tank and reset the counter as you described. Much easier than I expected. Thanks for taking the time to document how to do this for the xp800
Wonderful instructions. Worked perfectly on an XP-830 which I now expect is resurrected from the dead. Thank you so much. The detail was entirely necessary both in disassembly and assembly.
Thank you for this video - very clear, so i was able to freeze the playback while I dismantled and rebuilt the printer. My printer is an XP760 but the steps were the same. This is UA-cam at its best.
Thanks for this video! Just did it with the Epson XP-700 and had no issues so far. Used WiFi connection instead since I can't find the USB cable. Seriously, thank you!
Absolutely brilliant - so very helpful, well explained and filmed to illustrate. Thank you for uploading this to help us all. I've just successfully sorted my Epson XP 605 ... and even managed to wash out our ink pads to make it a cheaper resolve and was charged £6.50 ish for the key. I'm a happy printing lady again.
Hugely grateful for your one-handed repair and filming, and the time you took to describe each stage of the procedure. Result: success on my Epson XP-800. (I wish the inkpad & keycode suppliers' website was as orderly as your film!) Thanks again.
Thank you so much! Due to this excellent video, I was able to fix my XP-7100. The step by step instructions are brilliant.
Great video. Gave me confidence to do this myself and save 70% repair cost offered by Epson - comparable to the cost of a new printer! The one screw that couldn't be positioned by hand to tighten was tricky, but I sellotaped the screwhead on to the screwdriver that gave enough hold to just position the screw upright in place and provide a slight turn that enabled the screw then to be tighten in place. Thank you.
thank you so much hopefully will get the printer printing properly again now! Instructions were excellent.
Excellent video, cleaned existing filters and bought one time code on eBay in hindsight it was not worth cleaning the filter it’s better to buy new ones
Many thanks. Very clearly done. I am annoyed that NONE of the Epson printers give any warning that they are approaching end of life for the pads (confirmed by their no-help desk). I was in the middle of a critical job this evening, when it just stopped with the message. We are a long way from any service agent, and no doubt it will takes some time for them to fix it. I will be following your lead and doing it myself.
You're welcome!
I did fix it myself. BTW The Expression 960 is even easier to replace the pads - 2 screws on the bottom of the printer - yet Epson still insists that it requires a service agent. All good now. Thanks again.
I'm extremely grateful for this video! On your recommendation, I ended up purchasing the repair pack from Octoink as well and even though it came with instructions on how to take apart the printer, your video was far more helpful for actually walking through what I needed to do. Thank you!
Thank you very much for this and also the link to OctoInk. The cost for the kit (pad and key) is nearly £20 for my XP760 but still cheaper than both Amazon and eBay.
Just followed all the steps for a XP-820, worked liked a charm!!! Thanks for your instructions!
Glad to hear! That's what I have, and I really don't have the extra cash lying around right now to buy a new PSC. Hopefully, I can find the link and get the pads ordered and just do the changes. Glad to know this will work for my particular printer!
Excellent video, thank you. I had this problem, ordered from OctoInk yesterday. The kit arrived this morning, I followed your (and their) instructions, Job done. Printing again - perfectly. Much obliged to you, Tristram.
Fantastic, clear video. Thank you! Utterly appalling that Epson (and no doubt all printer manufacturers) design such needless and unnecessary obsolescence into their products. Shout out to OctoInkjet as well for supplying the pads and the reset key for £15!
Just watched your video and replaced the waste pads and reset the printer. Thanks for a very useful video!
2 years later and it worked like a champ. Thanks so much
Glad it helped
this was excellent wasnt sure i could do it but impressed i did thank you you have saved me from having to buy new printer.
This was very useful to follow on my XP-900. Slightly different cover parts but essentially the same with similar screws. Thanks very much!
Excellent video, Tristram. I got straight to the aptly-named "potty" of my Epson XP-700 using your instructions. I'm now waiting for Octo Inkjet to send me the new pads. All-in cost so far £15.00. Great value if I can get it to work with the new pads and code. My only slight criticism is that the volume of your commentary was a tad low. I could hear better once I plugged in earphones. It may have been a problem at my end. In any case, a really helpful video. Many thanks.
Your video was great and my pads are in and all seems to be working.
Thank you. This detailed and thoughtful explanation saved me from having to replace my printer. I am very appreciative of your effort.
Thank you so much for this great video! Just completed the process thanks to your help and now I have a working printer again when I thought I'd have to replace the whole thing!!! Hooray!!! -Cindy from Virginia, USA!
So much better for the environment 🍾
Thank you, thank you. Extremely clear, extremely helpful, deeply appreciated. My XP-7100 has a new life.
Your meticulous detailed step by step instructions are highly appreciated.
Now let's have a go at it and see if it all works out.. cheers ----
Thanks very much. Very accurate instructions. Cost only £15 to fix.
Your instructions and detailed video are amazing and thank you doesn’t quite cover it, but THANK YOU! Also thank you for the info. on where to buy the replacement pads and rest code, you’ve made it so simple. I am so happy my Epson-605 printer is up and running again and you've given me so much confidence!
XP-750 Ink Pad Replaced following the excellent guide. For 8eur fixed the printer which Epson said they do not support anymore
Thanks very much. Helped me fix the Epson XP-760 replacing pads and using the reset tool even though I had the instructions sent with the pads and reset key I found it easy to see with your video guide. I got mine from octoinkjet on eBay but I think they have their own website too. Extremely Happy. Thanks again 🙂
Excellent instructions, used all advice given including where to buy replacement ink pads for my XP-760 without any problems. very well presented, many thanks.
Thanks so much! Brilliant video and instructions! I have an Epson XP-530 but essentially it worked the same way.
Thank you so much for your very clear instructions. The whole thing has worked like a dream. This has been a great printer, and now it lives on - at minimal cost!
Excellent, I will be replacing my pads as soon as they come in. Very clear walk through, thanks
Thank you for such a clear descriptive video, made life a lot easier to replace ink pads and to reset.
Very clear video. Replacement of pads and reset made very straight forward. Thank you.
