    We shouldn't be comparing the 9700X with the 7700X despite the referential name. They might have the same amount of cores and threads, but their TDP is way different (9700X is 65W and 7700X is 105W). Instead we should be comparing the 9700X to the 7700 which has the same TDP, and also a $30 uplift in MSRP. A peformance and effienciency increasy of 7%, but who cares about efficiency at this power level? Most gamers only care about FPS for the buck, and when you go from $329 to $359 in MSRP and realize you lose the stock cooler, the game is kinda over. Name scheming means nothing nowadays. (I got this from youtuber Daniel Owen)

    • @Anton_dk
      @Anton_dk Місяць тому +1

      @@nikolailukanov8169 Yes, but only in gaming. My point is that the naming schemes have nothing to say between 7000 and 9000, and given the Intel situation it is important to be aware of AMD’s own lineup and specs on those gens, someone might be tricked to think the 9700X and 7700X are the same because of the similar names.

    • @RandallRoman
      @RandallRoman Місяць тому +1

      I think what really hammers it home that the 9700X and 9600X parts are fundamentally non-X parts is that the base clock is about the same as the 7000 series non-X parts. Next year we will see XT versions with 105W TDP that will be the true X versions

    Zen 5 doesn't actually have a big efficiency uplift. The 7000 CPUs were 65W, the 7000X CPUs were 105W, and the 9000X CPUs are 65W. They are intentionally misleading consumers to compare the 7600X to the 9600X and the 7700X to the 9700X so it looks like there is a big efficiency gain. In reality, the 7000X CPUs were much more power hungry than their non-X counterparts, while offering only 2% more performance. If we compare 9000X CPUs to 7000 non-X CPUs, the huge efficiency gain vanishes. AMD purposefully chose to make it look like a 5% performance gain and a 40% efficiency gain, rather than a 7% performance gain and 7% efficiency gain. They knew zen 5 was going to be disappointing and unfortunately successfully misled many reviewers.

      You can simply up the power on 9700x to give each core more than 11W per core.
      Effectively they shipped with Eco mode enabled, which given the number of people who lost their chit over 95C and 120W & 170W TDP is understandable.
      But you cannot cut so much power and not have it cut performance, derB8uer's figures showed good gains.
      We need to see if there's more than the memory configuration issue with PBO enabled that pursuaded them defaulting to Eco mode would go down well on benchmark obsessed reviewers.

    As a Example.
    I bought the AMD Ryzen 5 7600X 6
    For $274.55 original price $388.55
    "Open Box"
    At Canada Computers in Canada.
    For some strange reason Canada Computers has another version of the CPU with a similar price.
    Likely not "Open Box"
    Original pricing.
    $409.00
    On Sale $289.00.
    Almost 300 dollars which for the Ryzen 5 i did like the pricing drop otherwise its very likely i wouldn't had bought it.
    AMD Ryzen 7 7800X3D 8-Core/16-Thread costs around $528.98.

    I'm kinda hoping Nvidia's RTX 5000 GPU's aren't going to be delayed by too much.. Seeing the leaks/rumors of RTX launch being pushed back to Q2 2025.
    That would certainly put a hamper in doing an all next gen build this year.. If worse comes to worse I'll get a current Gen GPU as I dont want to wait that long. I already delayed my build plans for earlier this year in spring because next gen stuff was only a couple seasons away, or so I thought. Then summer arrives and the entire tech industry just implodes with RMA scandals, lawsuits/antitrust, delays, ect...
    Maybe if Battlemage comes in early, and at a low price I can just get that as an intermediary.(I've always wanted to tinker with Arc) Probably won't be the greatest for a 4k TV, but I still want to wait for that 5090 or maybe a Titan... Either way I don't want to end up with a half build pc missing a GPU here in Oct/Nov and then have to wait an additional 4-6 months for the damn GPU. If that indeed ends up being the case. This whole launch cycle is all outta sync. Hopefully Battlemage launches before CES, could hopefully improve GPU pricing going into the Holiday season. Certainly looking like RDNA 4 and RTX 5000 will most likely debut at CES unfortunately.

    The actual difference between the reviews seems to be the system configuration, not PBO
    If you use the officially supported DDR5 5200/5600 as your base, the 9000 series looks a lot better than the 7000 series
    It also looks a lot better than Intel 14th gen for gaming when all the systems use supported memory..
    Using DDR5 5600 is representative of how Dell would configure a system, but not how someone watching gaming tech channels would configure a system.
    Of course, anyone who watches the tech news knew that the current 9000 series CPUs would be uninteresting for high end gaming back in June when AMD admitted that the 7800x3d was faster.

    I just found an i7 8700 with an Asus MOBO and 16GB of ram all for $100. I’d like to build a pc using all this. What NVIDIA GPU should I get? The seller had an RYX 2080 Super with it. Should I go for something similar?

    Really good information in this episode! I have a 7600 with a 7900 GRE and I'm getting great price to performance. I'll probably consider another AM5 CPU in 2025/2026, but more for productivity than gaming, since I'm not CPU bottlenecked right now. Even then the 7600 works really good for my current productivity needs (my previous PC was AM4 5700x/RX 6600). I agree on waiting for 9000 series for now unless someone needs whatever productivity performance the 9900x or 9950x might have when they launch on 8/15 (but still a wait - if a short one - until the reviews come in).

    Hello quick question. I build a new PC, my plan is 5700X3D, 7800XT. Is the combo future proof? If not i would need to go AM5, which in my budget(and the prices in my country) would leave me with a R 5 7600x and a 7700XT. I think even tough it's AM4 my first choice is stronger for gaming, though? Thank you in advance.

      Its not "future proof" because that is the end of the line in terms of CPU upgrades possible. But you could upgrade the GPU in the future. But my two cents is the best "future proofing" is to build the strongest pc you can right now with the budget you have. So if staying in AM4 gets you a stronger GPU that's a solid option
