- Hey there!
after an ending where we didn't get to hear furina's thoughts, i was really excited to play her story quest! the archon quest ending wasn't per se abrupt but most of us expected SOME kind of furina catch up
i even believed she'd have ran far from the city to some peaceful place but i guess not?? we all knew she was made for the stage anyway right? it definitely feels amazing to see her be able to be her normal self though, huge fan of her like this c:
i've been working on some spicy stuff for december: i expect there to be barely any content (classic december) in preparation for the lantern rite etc. maybe one cool story event? that's about it SO. I will be streaming most of the month! will be trying EVERY DAY but.. eh we'll see how that one goes

So I really hope they get to meet, I just want her to make new friends and since the archons have a good impression and respect for her, I think it'd be nice if they met, furina needs to be with people who respect her imo

Well, the new Lantern Rite just offered us that.
Even though some people are upset at traveller in this quest ( I definitely understand) I think back to when I was severely depressed and was isolating myself. I wish someone like the traveller appeared tbh. His approach was not gentle at all. But it was the push Furina needed. Can't wait to see her in future quests. She's free now.
I recommend checking out Furina's character stories. There's a really touching one about a certain character doing exactly what a good friend would do for someone with depression
Yes! We call this active friendliness on psychology. Depressed people needs stimulation whether it might be visuals, touch, and auditory sensations. It somehows diverts their mind from the feeling of depression to appreciate other beautiful things in life.
It is VERY POSSIBLE for her to be invited in Archon gathering.
You can check on the Archon's voiceline about her and all of them are respectful towards her (even Venti wants to invite her to Windblume)
Some people may already said this, but she's mostly seen as a retired archon similar to Zhongli and Venti just without the power.
Bonus: If you take a look at Neuvillette's voiceline about the Archons, it says "About [element] Archon". Indicates that he's not close with any of them. (he even laughed at Venti and Zhongli for wearing fake visions)
I also amused to the fact that Barbatos and Rex lapis wear an fake vision after I learn that they are archons at the archon quests before.
Furina is an human form of Focalors before becoming a archon.
I think this is a case of not knowing how to manage oneself after being under so much stress for so long (ptsd). It's clear she loves musicals, theatre and operas, she wouldn't have so much knowledge about these subjects otherwise. She probably began studying acting as a way to keep up her Archon charade but it's been mentioned that she performed in and enjoyed watching many different shows throughout the years. Probably because while she was playing the Archon role the only solace she could find was in acting as another person as a fictional character (ironically enough). She seems to deeply enjoy it though, which is why Neuvillette comments on it, and how much livier and happier she seems while acting as a director.
An example I can think of is Your lie in April. The main character doesn't hate music, he loves it, but the memory of the abuse he suffered is strong enough to make him despise it too, even though he loves playing deep inside.
I believe Furina is of the same kind, she is tired and traumatized of the Archon role she had to endure, while also guilt-ridden about not doing anything to help Fontaine (what she believes, since she never knew of Focalor's plan until it was all over, many people dying and her "doing nothing"), which is why she doesn't want to take up the stage ever again. A knee jerk extreme reaction that people who suffer from ptsd tend to have. However, practising with the crew, advising them, guiding them and getting to know their stories re-awakens that spark of joy that'd always been there for opera/drama.
I truly hope that even if she never ends up acting again, she can find peace and joy in something she clearly loves, as a director, consultant, script writer...
Furina's vision is different from other fontaines visions, desgin wise and also because it was granted by Neuvillette instead of celestia, she got the special treatment from her number one fan

To be honest, I was quite uncomfortable with how absolutely insensitive they wrote the lines for Paimon & Traveler at the beginning.
Traveler literally witnessed everything Furina had gone through on the stage, they should have been the one who showed the most compassion toward Furina, but instead, they didn't even stop Paimon from hurting Furina, intentionally or not. There were so many other ways to lead Furina into the quest, we could have just asked how she'd been doing and informed her the troupe problems, with no further push, then we would have viewed her following us there as more of her pure concern for her people, rather than the weird feeling of that we guilt tripped her.
But I'm glad that after we got to Poisson, the script got better. The Archon quest left me a sense of relief for Furina, as she finally gained her long deserved freedom, so then when she said: "But on some level, freedom also means no longer being needed. I have no further use to people." That line got me. It hit me hard. It made me realize that even after all those years of sacrificing and enduring so much pain, the reward she finally earns at the end, may also be another level of depression she has to fight herself through.
The ending with the music and vocal was such magnificent. It shows how Furina will always set her people and others above herself, above her own wish, no matter what, because she has such a pure heart. She is truly, like Focalors said, perfectly human in all ways.
My exact thoughts. I hope Furina can enjoy being a creative director or what she wants to do.
Agreed, I get that the Traveller went “tough love” on her but the grabbing was weird and especially the beginning. Indeed we could have just bumped into her or looked for her and asked her how she was.

Out of all the Archons I think Furina has the best chemistry with the Traveler, they genuinely act like close friends and it's nice that she finally has someone to open up to and act casually with.

I don’t like the way traveler treated her in her story quest but even so she’s the only character I wouldn’t mind if they pushed together with the traveler, they have way better chemistry than someone like Ayaka or Keqing w/ traveler

Tbh I feel like if you look at just friendship Nahida is closest to the traveler but obviously it’s platonic. Furina does have the best chemistry with the traveler though

**BULKY POST ALERT* Sorry, but it's me compiling all of the things I've considered across multiple discussions in one place, so forgive me. XD (I expect some will be like, "I ain't gunna read all that," and that's fine, understandable, peace) Wanted to leave my thoughts on the quest as I know it's been a bit contentious. I'll say up front that I don't disagree that the Traveler and Paimon were pushy at the start and a bit insensitive. That said I think there are some narrative and meta-narrative reasons for all of this.
The first meta-narrative possibility is that, because this quest was likely written in parallel to the AQ, the emotional severity of her ordeal that the AQ conveyed may not have been fully apparant to the writers of Furina's quest. They may not have anticipated the full extent of our emotional state upon exiting the AQ. Additionally, several pieces of dialogue in Furina's quest imply that a decent amount of time has passed since the AQ, so the emotional state we're in going into her quest has had no time to subside as it has for all of the involved parties within the quest. Either one of these would create a mismatch and I think both are probably true.
As far as the Traveler and Paimon's pushiness goes, there are also narrative and meta-narrative considerations. It's important to consider what they each do and do not know: the Traveler witnessed her emotional journey, and the two of them were informed by Neuvillette as to the details of what he learned from Focalors. The Traveler has a reasonably well-rounded perspective, but Paimon likely only has the high level bullet points from Neuvillette. That should be enough to empathize, but it's also important to consider that Paimon is essentially like a growing child in her behavior. Even her "existential crisis" moment in the AQ is very reminiscent of a child who is having their first major realizations about the significance of life in the face of death. She clearly doesn't "get it." The Traveler maybe should've been more tactful, but again, I think there might've been a writing disconnect there. I'll circle back to the meta-narrative bit on this at the end.
There are also arguments about what Furina wanted and needed. Firstly, it's important not to baby her or act like we know what's best for her. Everyone is different and what might be detrimental for one person's mental health might be healing for another, and only the writers can make the determination on how their character will responsd to different stimuli, so all we can do is try to read between the lines and make our best guess at what the writers were trying to tell us about Furina. Something key that I noticed: when talking about her boundary at the start, she says she'd only be leaving herself a backdoor if she made this exception. But...leaving yourself a backdoor is only a problem if you're trying to set the boundary to keep yourself in, rather than something else out. You're trying to prevent yourself from stepping outside of the boundary, meaning you're trying to stop yourself from doing something you WANT to do.
And that actually gets circled back on at the end of the quest. The Traveler says there's no need to draw hard lines in the sand, simply to do what feels right. It makes sense to set strict boundaries when the behavior you're curtailing is clearly harmful, but Furina's problem was in, for one reason or another, coming to the conclusion that acting would not be good for her, no matter how much she might feel compelled to do so. An understandable concern, but not necessarily an accurate one. For some, being able to act in complete freedom might be healing. I'm not saying she should've jumped right back into it, but drawing a hard line in the sand wasn't the right thing to do, either. After all, despite her "day job" being acting as another person from the time she woke to the time she slept, choosing to do so as a hobby signifies, to me at least, a true love for it. It would be a shame to prevent yourself from at least trying again at some point.
And lastly, to return to the meta-narrative aspects of the Traveler and Paimon's behavior, there are two related considerations. One thing that the Traveler and Paimon's pushiness enabled was Furina to showcase her personality in response to an "opposing force." That's actually something most people very much enjoy in the story quest, but we wouldn't be able to see her be firm and resolute if there was nothing for her to be firm and resolute against. It also had to come from people she'd still be willing to interact with rather than a stranger she could simply walk away from; this would be justified, but it's also worth considering that her issue this whole time has been running from her problems, making the need for the "opposing force" to be from someone she doesn't want to run from. Sometimes the Traveler and Paimon exist to contrast other characters so as to make them shine, and in the case of this quest, that meant they had to be a tad antagonistic. Also, to be fair, they treated her like they'd treat most people of average, which is often filled with banter. It may seem insensitive in this specific context, but perhaps they felt she could handle it (given she had quite the proven fortitude). Perhaps babying her wasn't the right move, either.
Lastly, I've heard that the localizaton for EN has Paimon being more abbrasive than the other languages, and I think that may be a product of culture (this is the point I'm least confident in, but would at least like to posit). From what I've heard, some Eastern players actually like the EN portrayal of Furina most (which kinda makes sense if you look at it as EN Furina behaving more in line with the culture of Fontaine's Western inspirations), and given Furina's somewhat aggressive sass in the EN dub (where I've heard that she's overall a bit more timid in other languages), it would seem the Traveler and Paimon needed to behave in such a way that it would invoke said sass. Additionally, the writers can only work within the boundaries of the script segmentation. If they have X amount of dialogue boxes where certain info needs to be conveyed and needs to end with prompting a certain kind of response from a character, they've gotta localize that conversation to achieve those goals in that specific amount of text. These all considered, that may have necessitated, in a Western context, a more aggressive dialogue set. I think that if the writers had a bit more freedom with the localization, they might've been able to spend a bit more time contextualizing the Traveler and Paimon's outlook and perhaps soften their behavior a bit.
tl;dr Furina did need a push to give this a shot again, at least at some point. Walling off something she loved, and clearly knew she loved and was only assuming would be bad for her, was closing off a possible avenue of joy and healing for herself. I understand why the Traveler and Paimon needed to represent a force for Furina to push back against, not only to showcase the content of the real Furina's character, but to give her a chance to reconsider the stances she'd taken in her solitude. Though I agree that the implementation could've been better, I do understand that there are limitations with the localization, and the Western localization has the unique task of having the largest contrast in culture to the source script and the other dubs.
tl;dr tl;dr Given the production limitations, I'm willing to hold the Traveler and Paimon's behavior against them as characters less, as I understand what function they served. While they may not have known what Furina needed (complicating the matter of the validity of their behavior), she did indeed need what they provided (and that wouldn't work for everyone, but does for the person Furina is).
If you read all this, thanks for sticking with it, and I hope what I said makes sense and at least some of it gives you additional perspective.

The Traveler is a renowned and trusted member of the Adventure's Guild. Why wouldn't Katherine trust them with something like that? She probably wouldn't do that for anyone else unless it was like Alice or someone else trusted.

Seeing the comments, a few people are disappointed at how it ended and how it went. I am too, but I do think there's a reason for the quest to be the way it is, a bit lucklaster:
Furina's whole life was dramatic, it was a show to please the people of Fontaine. Now, she's free, and she doesn't HAVE to step over the line. There's nothing that needs to be super exaggerated, it's not her life anymore.
Even if I think Paimon and the traveller where kinda in the wrong to treat her the way they did, it shows perfectly what it's like to be human. ALL humans have problems, and even if Furina's are worst than the average human, it's just how it is. Some people will just not care, and some will tell them to just "move on" (Looking at you Navia, Paimon and traveller). Still, it's a bit like a call to reality for her. She is allowed to feel sad, anrgy, depressed about it, but she can also look forward.
Obviously, this quest also shows who Furina REALLY is. She's not vain, and what most NPCs see as "dramatic", I see it as "theatric". Like Focalors said, Furina is her ideal. She loves the stage, she loves the art, but she also loves helping people. She spent 500 years suffering to stop the prophecy, she put aside her own trauma to help a small troupe get back together and put on a wonderful show, she set aside her limits to make sure said show was a massive success.
Finally, for those who thought that the quest should have been around her and not 4 random NPCs: That's the point, for 500 years she was the Archon and the spotlight was on HER, now, she doesn't want that anymore. She didn't want to be credited at the end of the play, she didn't even want to sing at first.
As much as it may be frustrating, I think that's what Focalors wanted for Furina.
Sorry for the long rant.

@@g76agiI disagree. She did not "want" it per se. She was conflicted. Now I have not experienced any kind of severe trauma, much less something on Furina's scale. What I do know however is that people who have experienced such traumatic experiences are far more likely to avoid things that are related to their traumatic experience. Just like how war vets don't want to get involved in wars no more.

The Traveler's 'role' in Fontaine really was just to be a witness.
Also, Paimon was such a toxic little shit in this quest. That said, they have been foreshadowing a separation from Paimon for more than half a year now. It probably won't be permanent but it'll happen eventually. She can be annoying at times but I actually like Paimon as a character, even if she is a sus little gremlin.
Ironic how the Traveler did the least in Fontaine yet also almost mucked it up big time.

I have some mixed feelings about this quest though I do lean towards liking it. Watching you play and give commentary about it in your usual cheerful way, despite the quest having some odd writing choices, lightened my current mood and my overall thoughts about it more. I'm really intrigued by the Traveler in this quest. (Not Paimon though she's always rude lol). Traveler was both rude and supportive in this quest, but it makes me respect them more. In Act 5, the Traveler even used Furina and never apologized. They're not your average good guy protagonist who always does the right thing and I think that is going to show more going forward in Natlan
Agreed, Paimon was just rude and even disrespectful. While I like the traveller getting more personality themselves. However being rude to the girl that suffered 500 years is not the go. Tough love is probably the way to support the girl that though loved herself for 500 years. She doesn’t need to be treated as a baby
16:00 Im pretty sure she did change her fit, in the archon quest she had the white outfit on with the long hair, I also noticed that in the flashback for when Focalore talked to her in the mirror, she had this outfit on :)
This was a nice quest, but I am still disappointed by the lack of apology/comfort from the Traveler to Furina at the start of the quest. I still feel like they should have had a better reason to seek out Furina here other than asking her to help someone else out.

Tbh neuvillette seems pretty glued to fontaine? mainly from his voice line on zhongli tbh. So I think furina would do archon travels even if he’s technically closer to the position.

I just very recently finished this quest and i'm so happy that i could see that cut scene again.
I don't even understand French but that musical scene legit made me cry when playing it through; the artwork combined with the emotion in the music was just... something else, really
I was looking forward to your reaction to the french singing and it was worth the wait

Furina’s singing got me all emotional and it’s so hard to not cry every time I rewatch the cutscene 😭😭
While doing this Quest, I was so Sad that there wasn't too much we could do with Furina, and since I Lost my 50/50, It would be my farewell.
After I finished it, I took a picture with her and my Neuvilette, since there wasn't too much interaction between the two. I opened the wish menu, and my heart was feeling pressure, It was like someone was squeezing it.
I pulled on her, AND GOT HER AT 39!
She's my 2nd Favorite character, only behind Neuvilette :)
I mean - there's not one person who liked how pushy Paimon was - I personally REALLY didn't like it. I also didn't like that we didn't sincerely apologize for the times we've hurt her and also for not acknowledging her efforts that we've personally witnessed in the scenes (through our incredible nose-sticking ability). I know there's nothing we coulda done and we weren't really at "fault" - but I think that if our actions hurt someone or wrong someone, regardless of how unavoidable they were - we should feel sorry about it and express it in some way.
While I lost some respect for the traveler, Paimon is borderline irredeemable for me. I'm probably biased - I almost stopped playing the Sumeru archon quests despite really enjoying them because I could no longer tolerate Paimon- but this tops even that. Instead of hurting me she's hurting Furina! How dare she!
Anyway. Me being this passionate about it shows how good the Fontaine archon quest was. Story quest was great too, especially everything to do with Furina, but the way we acted actually didn't leave a nice taste at the end.
Remember when the divine throne is gone Neuvillette now holds control over Hydro. So he will decide who gives hydro visions now not Celestia.
Hence why most of Furina's voicelines are spoilers. But glad you enjoyed her story quest. Please do Lyney and Wriothesley story quest, I'm sure you'll love it.
Also her vision has both two different frames, hence why she has pneuma and ousia and dragon teeth
4:15 i also thought that but we actually helped cus:
-We got lyney and lynette out of trouble by being their attorney
-We also helped navia solve case regarding her dad so now she is on good terms with Otter and Clorine
-We protected furina from arleccino who(might have attacked her but prob not) when Otter was ottering around with Mr tea
-We helped solve childe's missing problem in the underground thru that long act(i forgot the deets but we saw dreams thru viion and this helped later when establishing the true culprit)
-We helped arleccino in exploring the ruins that had the tablets for the prophecy, this ofcourse was useful for neuvi's discernment of the true culprit nearing the end of the story
-This actually happened in Act I but we helped navia from dissolving due to fonta (Paimon drank it)
-We also helped navia and clorine against the guardameks
-We then helped neuvi against the narwhal(altho he pretty much carried and could prob do it on his own)
-When the primordial sea water was abt to come from meropide fort mr tea and clorine sent us to get neuv and then we went to protecc furina (neuv would prob have sensed it on his own tho so idk)
Thats just off the top of my head so i might have missed sum stuff. Ofc Neuv,focalors and furina carried but a lot of things the other characters did was significant and if they didnt, their work would be in vain. Traveller's purpose was coordinating them(i guess), eventually enabling fontaine to escape punishment from the dormant Heavenly Principles

If I remember correctly in the cutscene right as the traveler was going to help they collapse due to a headache

I will say Furinas voiceline on Neuvillette broke me a little, I get that they didn't always have things in common but they worked together for 500 years, I kinda hoped that now that Furina can be herself, on top of Neuvillette being a pretty emotional guy, that they'd be friends, I mean I get it but like 🥹🥹
Her voicelines on Navia and Clorinde were hella sweet thought, I'd love for the three of them to be good friends and enjoying tea parties, just having the best girl sleepovers you can have, I hc that and no one will take it away from me I want Furina to have them as bffs so bad 😭

i really liked this story the subs we got for the cutscene i have mixed feeling about since they dont really match so i came up with the idea that the subs are furina lines for the play and not for the song, and the song is just in the background,
Aaaa someone pointed out to me how there are little claw marks around the hydro icon on her vision since neuvillete gave it to her and hes a dragon and ITS SO CUTEEE

Jokes aside though, I do enjoy seeing how some of the people who were dissing Furina did a 180 but now I have to contend with people overreacting to everything the Traveler and Paimon do when they're around her.
You just can't win. If there's nobody to hate, we'll nitpick until we FIND someone!
i think it is cute that the common theory is that Neuvillette is the one who gave Furina the vision. Based on his lore in his character stories and that hers looks so different with being both Pneuma and Ousia and the little teeths on it. I don't ship them but i like it how supportive Neuvillette is.

As someone who lives in a country that has french as a second language this quest is so funny and cute actually all Fontaine is but this quest has more sauce lol
Btw here's a little detail, furinas vision not only has both pneuma and ousia patterns but it also has four teeths, since Neuvillette is the one giving hydro visions for now and the teeths are there because he's a dragon, I wonder how natlans visions will look like since natlan is ruled by the pyro sovereign and not the pyro archon.

13:09 Neurr doesn’t like the archons besides Nahida + Furina deserves to be treated like a queen. Though I think that being traumatised by playing an archon for 500 years. You might not want to be anywhere near archons, being treated as one might just trigger all that trauma

You can find out more about visions in Neuvillette's profile, but it was actual him that granted Furina her vision, not celestia. Her vision also has little dragon fangs on it that others don't.

Paimon was so rude is this quest, i dont understand why they dicided to write her like this. She was always a little insensitive, but this time she is just obnoxious
2 hour long rednas vid + kfc = perfection
RedNas casually forgetting that we fought a nation destroying narwhal as the Traveler and solved a cold case to bring a serial killer to justice. Plenty of reason for them to be considered heroes or noteworthy in Fontaine.
There are two parts of this quest that really annoy me. The first is the traveler and paimon being so pushy about furina acting. We knew the guy for all of 5 minuets but now we're ready to go to war for his play. The second is the entire troupe disregarding furina's wish to be annonymous the game playing it off as a good thing. Despite those two, I still really enjoyed this quest and hope it gets an act II

I personally didn't love how this quest went, I had really big expectations for it and I guess they weren't meet. Anyhow, I'm excited to see your reaction and your thoughts about it, maybe with another perspective I can see the quest on another light, who knows!
