what a wonderful character quest, i'm done editing at a normal time of day and LOVED playing through this, was kinda lost as for what to do on patch day, thought tighnari building video maybe? but patch 4.4 of GENSHIN IMPACT brought the xianyun or cloud retainer quest - and MAN was it a savior, loved it c:
i'm really into liyue lore for some reason. might re-play through the world quests on the lumine only account to get an idea of what's going on really (if there even is any serious lore in those) but I love the whole adepti lore, kinda surprising how much we know of cloud retainer but barely anything about the other birb or the deer
next weekend I hope we do cloud retainer building (or xianyun i'll try to use that zz) and the week after LANTERN RITE videooooooo - BUT i will get braces somewhere during that.. hopefully right after recording the video LMAO - hopefully i won't be sounding odd for the first few days (shouldn't be too long though - i've had them before and this will "only" be for 6 months)
okayyyyyyy and the new area looks INCREDIBLE and i can't wait to explore it :3 lots of stuff (OH RIGHT AND GAMING IS OUT TOO) we get to look out to lots of good content coming soon, it's great!! now imma edit some 2nd channel stuff and sleep at a normal time, what a WEEK

Rednas I also went with the Sumeru vind glider. And the story was great
Some people think this is another story quest about an NPC but imo this quest is about Xianyuns adoration to her disciples (more like daughters), her willingness to move forward and her endless kindness. She's literally a mother.
I also think this is the first time the traveller actually grieved about their sibling, and the first time someone actively showed us support about it.
The quest started with xianyun giving her disciple closure (DAUGHTER) and ended with her adopting us.
I think the ending is what zhongli would want for every adepti. Them finally moving forward and living a carefree life
absolutely agreed. a lot of players have trouble understanding any form of nuance and need everything spelled out for them (hence why paimon is necessary lol). genshin often uses NPCs as a driving vehicle for showing the personality of the playable character, rather than outright telling it.

i agree soo much, i haven't been active on socialmedia so i had no diea people were saying that about her story quest, i didn't feel bored even one bit, and the npc was interesting too, that quest had me absolutely crying so much, i've never cried that much from a storyline in game (some had me feeling way more strongly about that, but this one had me crying the most) also nice profile picture

I know that people generally hate NPCs in character quests, but Yuandai's story made me cry, and so did the end with the traveler

I just realized how Xiao saw Xianyun in human form thirty years ago when she went to Wangshu Inn to give the medicine but with a fake MOUSTACHE lol

@@VinhNguyen-wh8jsthey probably can but they can’t change their colors, maybe their coloring has something to do with their powers and no matter what form they take they will always have the same palette, like Zhongli in archon, dragon and human form
when granny yuandai says that you can spot "a bird that's been left behind by its flock" i like to think she means xiao, who is the last living yaksha and whose constellation is a bird
Story Quests with great focus on NPCs are great when they're made well. Yoimiya's 2nd Story Quest and Xianyun's Story Quest are proof of that

I just realized that when Xiao talked about CR donning her human form 30ish years ago, she was actually doing so to disguise herself and deliver the pills to Yuandai. Great story.

I never expected to like Cloud Retai- Xianyun as much as I do. She comes off a little prickly but with good intentions at first, but when those motherly instincts are on full display she is absolutely adorable.

This is the only story quest ive actually cared about and really enjoyed. Xianyun's Mother personality is so fitting for her and she has quickly become one of my favorite characters.
Whoa, I have found my mirror universe counterpart! Because this is the only story quest I actually hated (maybe except for the ending).
How come? I also may be a little bias as Shehe is my fav character in the game and any chance to see her is great.
Mainly because the whole "xy turns into human, falls in love and doesn't want to turn back into xy" story is sooo played out, I've feel like I've seen that a gazillion times. And combining it with the equally played out "I lost my memory, let's visit places to get them back and uncover the truth" story didn't help.
I mean we just had an event story about a water spirit falling in love with a human. And a big Archon story about (FONTAINE SPOILERS INCOMING ...
...) xy turning into humans and forgetting what they originally were. That's why I groaned my way through this story. Until the ending cutscene and the Zhongli cameo, which were nice of course.
I'm also curious how you haven't cared about and enjoyed a single story quest until this one. Not even Shenhe's, Furina's or Navia's? Or Yoimiya's 2nd one?!?

Bird mom is the best. Caring for all of her children and fully supports them on their choices. But she also has her home ready whenever any of them wishes to go back home
I loved how much this patch felt like coming home. I've missed Liyue and the Liyue cast so much.

this was such a great quest!! Xianyun’s reaction to Shenhe saying she’d always recognize her master was so sweet you could tell she was so touched 🥺🥺 also i literally cried like a baby during the cutscene ahaha
but it’s good you actually did her quest before Latern Rite bc it’s listed as a “recommended” quest to complete prior to starting the event!

I think I've started to call my own Paimon Paimita out of instinct nowadays cuz of you 😂😂 I really enjoy you not being outright hostile and hateful towards her character and treat her like the exasperatingly annoying yet endearing lil sis she is

This quest just proves that Traveler should be voiced wayyy more often, like cmon! Even the Trailblazer in HSR has more lines 😭 Both Aether and Lumine have such a nice voice too, I wish they could share the same amount of dialogue opportunities as Paimon
Imagine Shuyu become a playable character because most of Cloud Retainer's disciples are playable characters.
A first playable NPC character, hehehe, just kidding. And the Zhongli and Xianyun reunion is very unexpected. Makes me want to play her story quest soon.

Despite Bird was my favorite npc even before her human reveal, i personally don't really like this quest at first. But after we beginning to know characters better, I was just purely enjoying my time. Really liked how all entangled with Bird herself and different approaches to "kids leaving home" problem, so we can see it from many peoples perspectives. Also, Granny just great, would be so much fun if they started they own tea club with Madame Ping, Lunette and Sausage, because why not:)
This was one of the best quests we have seen in a long time. I loved the character moments with the traveler
Great quest commentary. I've been up all night with my young grand daughter and it kept me awake. She wakes up quite often, thanks for the hubbub of a video.
I loved this quest so so much!! Also you should do Baizhu’s quest too when you get a chance because their lore is quite connected with Chenyu Vale.
This quest made me cry so much bird mama is just so wholesome

also if you notice Xianyun said "I" instead of "One" when talking around other people. Showing she getting use to talking to people
The sibling cutscene was extra sad because we aren’t gonna see anything like that for a while. In that moment they were just siblings. That’s how she wants Aether to act when they meet each other again but it won’t. Right now they’re kind of our enemy and there’s a lot we don’t know. We have to finish our journey and get our answers. If we meet again it will probably be another “not now Lumine, later” moment.

That cutscene gutted me. I cried my eyes out when we saw what Shuyu dreamed about. Then when our twin came back and we got to dream hang out, the tears were still going. But then when the Traveler wakes up and Xianyun talks to them, the tears were just a river. Like Fontaine, the nation of tears lol.
i understand what you mean about the story hitting close to home:') last lantern rite happened around the same time i lost someone really important to me and the quest being about grief and all was really surprising to me, like way too specific lol anyway loved seeing you play through this tysm!!!

Did you notice That there is a voiceline now when you pull a character you don‘t have? (I think they introduce themselves while their splash Art is on screen)

this surprisingly turned out to be one of my favorite story quests. everything just unfolds seamlessly and gives you a complete narrative. and hell even the cutscene is soooo good!!!!

I'm not sure if you missed it but at the very end of the quest there should be a note you can read by the crates that Shuyu left at Xianyun's house! It's about her parents and it made me cry for a few mins longer

2:01:40 Actually every adeptus and Zhongli used to stay and mingle with humans. Times changed and they stopped visiting Liyue. They were the ones who built Liyue in the first place. Now finally they are back home even though it has changed a lot.
