friends, I accidentally made this live before the closed captions finished rendering 😩 I'm sorry! They should be up in a few hours. ALSO, Joe has once again graced us with his chapter-titling, but to a significantly more avant-garde degree this time...if ANYONE out there manages to independently perceive the reference in "I dreamy gleamy, she's a makeup set, Sephora!" I WILL LITERALLY EAT MY HAT *scroll down for the answer* it's supposed to evoke "I dream of Jeannie, she's a light brown hare" à la Bugs Bunny, which I was only able to discern because a) I've lived with Joe for 13 years, and b) I heard him whistling this in the kitchen yesterday
It's a reference of a reference! "I Dream of Jeanie with the Light Brown Hair" is a song from the 1800s by Stephen Foster. Give it a listen and follow along with the lyrics, it's actually quite dreamy itself.
First, I want to compliment yall for stepping up the production value! The active humor in your editing now is delightful. Second, I noticed recently that I treat new makeup releases like a TV guide for the next coming weeks. I realized when I see new makeup that I'm interested in, I'm more interested in watching people talk about it than buying it. I get excited anticipating people's videos the same way I do when I want to buy something. Realizing this was kind of a light bulb moment and I feel less pressure on new releases somehow? I just skip the mental process if figuring out if I want it, compare it to my collection, see if I have the budget... and I just turn that energy to waiting for reviews! 😂
If Pat McGrath brought out her shadow's as singles, and you could make your own palatte...well, I'd be tempted to try the formula. For me, I'd want to make sure I loved and wanted every shade to justify to cost.
Idk if this makes me a creeper, but the way your voice cracks when your are truly excited about something (and maybe also tickled by how excited your are) gives me life. It seriously made my morning lol
Just a heads up! The CeraVe cleansing balm isn't actually that great at a price per oz perspective (1.3 oz for $14). The elf cleansing balm is amazing and is 2 oz for $11 and is better than the original elemis balm imo. You get almost twice as much for less than the CeraVe costs
@@pinkbubblesnake they're very fun, versatile palettes (simple to glam to avant-garde) and excellent quality, but application-wise they do have a bit of a learning curve. I love the two I have and use them more than any other palette I own. However, they are just eyeshadows - you can find something similar, that you are perfectly happy with, without spending $125 for 10 shades. AND the main bit of advice I would give is to buy one only if you love EVERY SINGLE SHADE in the palette and can see yourself using it regularly. At that price point, even one dud shade is a damn shame. One other bit of advice - PMG does have sales pretty regularly, so if you can bide your time you can pick one up at a pretty decent discount. I was able to get Midnight Sun recently for $80 on sale after I had been eyeing it for months.
Thank you Hannah. This is the content I needed when I was a teenager. I wanted to be smart about decisions but didn't know how to organize my brain like this.
I'm trying to do the same, I want to order a ton of k beauty right now. I don't need it. Maybe I need more base products but I can wait until I run out. Its not urgent. But ughhhhh I love the shiny new feeling! The feeling of finding a new favourite.
Love your channel my 15 yr daughter came in while I was watching your video. She was like this is her version of ditching the cart. Lol for fun we go online and fill up carts then leave it. Not in real stores where people have to put it back but virtually lol Haha I just wanted to share that bc I thought it was so funny!
Yes! Loved your thoughts on Mothership X. I will very likely buy it, but waiting for a sale feels like the move. These videos are so valuable in terms of modeling rational consumption-truly great work in this world. 🥰😘
I would love to see you try your hand at that DM look-that kind of velvety, uniformly-textured-but-multicolored shine would be really interesting to see you try to recreate!
Thank you. I don't actually use make-up much, but I enjoy your videos and they have given me the motivation to say no to myself with regard to things I do tend to overspend on, like books.
I feel you about the wait....... I wanted a Kindle paperwhite SOOOOOOOOO badly!! I was very uncomfortable with the $240 proce tag. Fast forward about 5 months, I have about $150 worth of Amazon gift cards and the Kindle is on a prime day deal for $175. The saying is true: good things come to those to wait ❤️
@@annetteprice I started to read Jane Eyre and I'm thoroughly invested at this point. I've only had it a day and I can already tell it's easier to pick up where tou left off. And OMG my audibles are on here?!?!?! Very glad I waited and got an awesome deal :)
Just did my own anti-shopping therapy for before a summer holiday (vacation). Usually PRIME shopping time for me. I made a Pinterest board of my own clothes, to plan a capsule wardrobe. Even though they're mostly old, images of almost everything was still available online. It's so alluring to see all my clothes set out like a beautiful online shop, and adding an item to my board feels like "buying" it for my holiday and curating a shopping basket - it's perfect. Thinking about the items and searching for the images totally redirects my online browsing behaviours. Setting it up was a bit annoying, but once I got my basics in there it was so much fun! Highly recommend for anyone with a holiday coming up.
The artistry your talking about reminds me of the packaging of the druid palette. I was watching an Indie hall by Makeup Just For Fun because as boring as Cold Brew and Jasmine look, they do have my attention. In this little haul, Amanda has the Druid palette. The imagery on the packaging stole my heart and had me wanting to buy it immediately, despite the fact that I dont actually like the colour story. Watching Amanda do her eye look though made me pull back Juicy Olive from my possible declutter pile. There is a chartreuse matte that I've just been feeling blah about. It looked so interesting on Amanda. Its also quite similar to a shade in the Flower Punk palette which I've been eying off and on since it's release. So, i was inpired to pull Juicy Olive back in to rotation and play around with. Also, it occured to me, I could use the imagery on the palette as inspiration to draw. I wish I drew more often, and if I draw the image I get to have a version of the packaging that I love so much.
Dear Hanna Louise, I really appreciate your no-buy decision. I am too in this no-buy mode. I do it often since I became more minimalist with time :) Your videos on this topic had in fact reveal to me nice strategies on hoe to prevent me to buy even more. Me too was on the fence and almost fell for the Lisa Eldridge new colors :) Secretly I am counting days until August LOL Big Hug
The way you broke that Sephora set down...whew! Well done. I'm intensely curious about the Cerave Cleansing Balm. If I'm too lazy to drive out to Ulta for Good Molecules, I may try it. Walgreens is WAAAAY closer to my house, and saving the gas money could be worth it. On the flip-side, Good Molecules comes in a 2.5oz size for just a dollar or two more. The convenience could also be worth the sacrifice of quantity, though. We shall see in August.
I'm so happy you make videos and get so much joy hearing you talk very emotionally about something and find it encourages me to feel the feelings without taking action and spending unnecessarily. I've done so good with no buy July so far and am so thankful I found your channel.
I decided to join in no buy July as I saw your update and it's really hard! I'm leaving for a holiday on August 1st so it will be 1,5 month in stead of 1 month. So far I've wanted: new bras and underwear, new books, a summer dress, a kimono/robe/cover up, a self tanner and lots of new perfume. I might buy some of these things eventually, but especially the dress and underwear feel kind of urgent because I 'need' them before my holiday. So hannah, please keep this lovely content coming. Its all hands on deck here
I did No Buy July with you, and this content is refreshing. My trigger is to try new skin care and explore new formulas. But, skin care has an expiration date and I hate wasting product. I went through an anti-haul during Prime Day and I am so grateful I found this content! This makes me feel less “crazy” for enjoying window shopping because I talked myself out of purchases. I felt like I was wasting my time. Delayed gratification allows me to enjoy products that hit a niche spot in my stash, versus wasting money on products with a 6-12 month shelf life that I never use.
The mothership is super exciting! Helps to know it'll still be there a year from now. I'm doing good in my no-buy July! Considering this is my first ever no-buy time period, I thought I'd struggle more. But no. The rules are clear and it's easy to follow.
Regarding the Tower28 in Magic Hour, I declutterred mine because I find that on me it never sets and it stays "balmy", which I know based on your preferences might be an issue. Just FYI.
This helps me so much. Like you, I had a lot more money in the past and I have thousands of dollars worth of make up. I took a new government job to help the public and along with that a pay cut. I have had a HARD time not buying as much. I need these videos so much. Thank you!!!!!!!!!!
I am also doing my best with a no buy July. Thank you for inspiring me to do so. Something on my list that I think you may want to consider in the future is the Nars blush in color zen. I know you prefer creams but the color immediately sparked the “old gum” vibes to me. Your video made my day 💜
It’s really hard for me lately because I’m very used to spending some of my money on beautiful things every month but I need to save up since I’m moving soon. Your videos help a lot!
I have bought one thing this month but after I woke up from the blackout I return it !!! and at the same time im still having things coming in the mail from last months buying so technically I started July 13-august 13 th thank you for your videos
I was going to participate in no buy July, and then Devinah did a restock. Honestly, the three singles I bought will probably be the only makeup purchases I make this year that isn't just repurchasing a used up favorite, so I am still okay with this.
I hear you on that 100%!! I'm very glad you're feeling confident w/ your purchase & that you don't feel you "messed up" your prospective No Buy. As Hannah says, even though starting on the 1st of the month feels satisfying... There's nothing saying you can't start now. 😊
I'm really loving Joe's captions! I hope he does more of them in the future. Unfortunately (?), I will be buying Moonlit Seduction when it launches. It really IS everything I've been looking for in a Mothership palette - although it is yet another pink-themed PMG release, it's neutral. NEUTRAL. I use Mothership palettes as the workhorses of my collection, and this suits my wardrobe (and my coloring) so well that I'll probably reach for it every day while the rest of my eyeshadows gather dust. I can't wait to render my entire collection obsolete!
The new mothership palette is so beautiful. I’m in patient search of platinum meeting a soft gold sparkly eyeshadow. I look forward to seeing the palette in person, hopefully. But still, I’m going to hold off buying a mothership palette until the one comes out where every eyeshadow is one I would use almost every day.
I've seen so many people anti-haul that PM palette and you're the only person who actually wants it! I think if you do end up getting it, you should review it since so many people are skipping it. I've used the cereve eye cream (I don't think it's new, maybe reformulated?) It's ok, but I prefer the bioderma one which is just as cheap and I can order it from walgreens when I get their micellar water. I pretty much use eye cream as a step in the morning to plump up my under eye, so it needs to be light and quick to absorbed and not too oily. The bioderma hits all those marks.
Love your hair with the makeup lewk and jewelry choice! Ohhh man, that Juno palette is KILLING me, I adore Juno, argh! This video is inspiration to keep being strong, lol!
Oddly enough, I am feeling more tempted by drugstore makeup (and fast fashion) than anything high end during this no buy. Its like going on a diet and suddenly craving potato chips when you never eat potato chips to begin with. So far I have been resisting by reminding myself of a similar but nicer item I already own. I also use bargaining, if I make it through the month, then I will allow myself a QoL item for the kitchen.
Paula’s Choice Gentle Touch Makeup Remover is amazing! I use it just to remove eye makeup, because I find the balms require more rubbing than I like to remove mascara. I put a little puddle in my hand, dab it on my eyes, gently rub it in a little and then wipe the excess with a soft towel or tissue. It gets like 80% of my mascara off and softens the last 20%, so when I follow with my balm and cream cleansers, I don’t have to overwork that area. A much gentler process overall!
Please film a makeup playtime inspired by Danessa Myrick’s images for the lightworks palette! I think it’d be so fun, and maybe even give us all some wild new ways to use multichromes.
As usual, loving Joe’s chapter titles.🥰. Also, thank you for calling out that duochrome in the Pat palette. I’ve been thinking about all of the dupes I own and yet not many people said anything and you’re the only one I’ve heard say it looks like the MAC shadow. It was immediately what came to my mind. Great video!! Very balanced.
I’m trying to not buy new makeup right now because I really want to love on the products I have, but I will admit that Pat eyeshadow is giving me all the feels. Think I’ll put it on the back burner too. Thanks for the reminder that there’s no rush. ❤️
I have to tell y’all that the Danessa Myricks Lightworks palette really is worth the hype. Like it’s that girl. A crowning topper to any shadow palette you already have in your collection.
Oh my gooood, the lightwork three has my heart too, though I'm waiting for a restock of the full size one and I hope it'll happen when I can afford it 😬 Listening to you talk about it reminded me of the video where you put on makeup inspired by the bronze palette and another one, that was great! I just watched it the other day and I think more videos like that would really help with no-buy periods and in general. Loving the content! And the new hair ✨🔥
My final skincare layer is squalene oil. I did a little research on oils & problematic skin & squalene was the only oil that wouldn't aggravate/cause fungal acne or seb derm or yeast overgrowth on the skin. I will say Vaseline cleared up the KP I had on my arms/shoulders that was misdiagnosed as hives by one doctor that ended up sending me to an allergy specialist. The allergy specialist knew immediately it wasn't in fact hives & told me to buy a jar of vaseline. And ...it worked. I had always had oily skin & sensitive skin & never really used lotions/moisturizers much beyond sunscreen & baby oil. When I went thru meno at 45 (hysterectomy) my skin changed & I had a big adjustment ahead of me compounded by moving to a more arid climate. Before I had always fought to keep my skin dry & oil free, now it's a constant struggle to keep it hydrated & moisturized without irritation or rosacea break outs.
Day 14… and my wishlist is…. Long. I’m feeling good about my decision to do the no-buy because it’s making me feel uncomfortable. Little Cecile that wants a lolly is really annoyed she can’t have one, which means this is a good practice for me. I haven’t bought any replacements yet despite having 5 I could buy within my rules. It’s like I don’t want to open the flood gates or spend the money. So I have them on a separate list waiting until I truly “miss them” or August 1. Whichever makes sense. I’m also at $0 spent on groceries and only 3 trips to dine out. We are getting through the weirdness that lives in your pantry. Which makes me happy. August is my birthday month. I’m thinking I’m going to extend my no-buy in some areas next month. I’m excited for how this is resetting my brain
@@annetteprice y’a know all those strange things you buy “just to try”. Stuff on sale/on end caps that calls your eye… it’s been delightfully refreshing to get through that.
Try the Good Molecules cleansing balm but find an applicator spatula for your tin. It will make the balm last longer than you'd imagine. The GM balm takes off even my most waterproof eye makeup and it rinses off with water easily. Plus it's cheaper per ounce than the CeraVe.
2 minutes in and I need to get food and sit down with this. I'm impatiently waiting for an email, so a video like this is perfect because I have no idea what time the email is coming. Going to guess this afternoon, but who knows.
Love this video-and especially Joe’s captions. I do have a question about “slugging”: how do you keep the slug trail off your pillow cases? Or do you just have to use a new one every day? I use silk pillow case and don’t have enough to replace them daily.
I was so intrigued by that greige CoverGirl blush that I looked into it further, unfortunately the other website swatches show it as a light peachy brown 😭
Love that video!! Not doing July no-buy, but I did do a 6-month no-buy until this month because my birthday is that month BUT - and I am sorry but I need to vent! - the exact things I wanted to buy for my birthday at the end of my no-buy I cannot acquire because Brexit has resulted in many indie shops not shipping to the UK because of needing a particular checkout handling taxes! Thanks for keeping me company in these trying times 😂
I see a dupe the vibes in the Pat McGrath palette! Also, I am super excited about the Trixie/Juno collab. It’s not for me but it’s stunning! and I’m secretly hoping you get it in PR so you can review it. I understand about the non shimmer factor but Juno Birch doesn’t wear them.
No buy July going well, enjoyed this video and your rationale. The only thing left to really seal the deal wrt my No Buy is to get back into my watercolours. I love colours and playing with them, and once I get into my watercolours playing with water on paper, I lose the urge to play with coloured makeup. Which reminds me, I hope my wc tubes haven’t dried up😱 making a promise to the internet- this weekend I will bust them out
Although I do agree about the agents clip balm. I wasn’t interested in that, but I have it on my vanity where I can use a lip brush and that should help.
Dear Hannah, Love your videos! As part of no-buy-July, would you be able to create a tutorial video on how to use different makeup brushes, using existing makeup? :) Thank you for your consideration. ♡
I totally thought you’d talk about the new elf dupe for CT flawless filter! Very tempting however the price is close to what the mini of the CT costs, and I’d rather have a small size anyway. But if you end up trying the elf one I will very much look forward to your thoughts!
Hannah, great video! Check out the Denisa Myricks cream blush palettes that came out during the Holidays. They have 4 colors in each palette, the best cream blushes EVER!!!

I am also doing my best with a no buy July. Thank you for inspiring me to do so. Something on my list that I think you may want to consider in the future is the Nars blush in color zen. I know you prefer creams but the color immediately sparked the “old gum” vibes to me. Your video made my day 💜
Your hair look gorgeous in this video. Your whole look is spot on.
It’s really hard for me lately because I’m very used to spending some of my money on beautiful things every month but I need to save up since I’m moving soon. Your videos help a lot!
The Sadie video was exactly what I needed today
Bless you Hannah, this video is such a breath of fresh air today.
Just what I needed today! I was just about to go look for something, Anything! to buy.
Funny! As soon as your face popped on on my screen I was like wearing gone greige
It would be great to see you trying to dupe the vibes of the Danessa Myricks blushy-multichrome-highlighted looks!
Second that. Because I want to do it on my face too. I find HLP easier to follow. I get overwhelmed with dame Myricks- her skills are just beyond me
The new mothership palette is so beautiful. I’m in patient search of platinum meeting a soft gold sparkly eyeshadow. I look forward to seeing the palette in person, hopefully. But still, I’m going to hold off buying a mothership palette until the one comes out where every eyeshadow is one I would use almost every day.
Both Cozzette & Devinah have shades like that in their singles. If you want the shade names, just let me know...
Love this. I've been eyeing some of the same things and this helps reinforce why I don't need them!
Gorgeous 90s vibes!
Again, I'm here for Joe's makeup-collection-name-worthy chapter titles!
Mac blue brown
I’m trying to not buy new makeup right now because I really want to love on the products I have, but I will admit that Pat eyeshadow is giving me all the feels. Think I’ll put it on the back burner too. Thanks for the reminder that there’s no rush. ❤️
I have to tell y’all that the Danessa Myricks Lightworks palette really is worth the hype. Like it’s that girl. A crowning topper to any shadow palette you already have in your collection.
Oh my gooood, the lightwork three has my heart too, though I'm waiting for a restock of the full size one and I hope it'll happen when I can afford it 😬
Listening to you talk about it reminded me of the video where you put on makeup inspired by the bronze palette and another one, that was great!
Oh I would love to see a review on the cover girl dewy tint when you’re able to!
Hannah we need to see that clothing rack in action! I love everything which is hanging in there 🤌🏻
perfect timing! This is my favorite kind of video to listen to while working on tedious excel tasks 😊
I love the Wishful cleansing balm that I received in a Boxycharm. I actually picked up a backup in the pop up shop for a great price!
I’m excited for how this is resetting my brain
my wishlist is also very long...when I go and look at it. But as the month wears on I am slowly forgetting what's on it!!! Out of sight out of mind!
“the weirdness that lives in your pantry” lol totally relate to that one
@@annetteprice y’a know all those strange things you buy “just to try”. Stuff on sale/on end caps that calls your eye… it’s been delightfully refreshing to get through that.
Thank you, you just talked me out of that Sephora favorites kit!
What cleansing balm do you currently use? I feel like I can never get the make up off of my skin without using a make up wipe before I wash my face.
Hey Hannah ! Love your makeup in this video. Would love to know what’s on the lips and eyes ?🤩
“Rosy brown AND toasty nude, now this is what I’m talking about.” - seconded. 👌
Love this video-and especially Joe’s captions. I do have a question about “slugging”: how do you keep the slug trail off your pillow cases? Or do you just have to use a new one every day? I use silk pillow case and don’t have enough to replace them daily.
I love a good antihaul!
SADIE FACE 🥺🙏🏼 I love her so much. And you and Joe too but yknow 😜 how can you not just absolutely live and die for a kitty like Sadie!
I feel similarly about PMGL Moonlit Seduction. I do want the danessa myricks light works palette.
OMG the Patrick Ta brow gel is A-mah-zing! Liked it waaaaaaaay better than the Refy.
I'd love to see that DM look recreated
Really enjoying my no buy July. I just keep adding stuff to my makeup list and I’ll probably delete most of it once the thrill dies down
No buy July going well, enjoyed this video and your rationale. The only thing left to really seal the deal wrt my No Buy is to get back into my watercolours. I love colours and playing with them, and once I get into my watercolours playing with water on paper, I lose the urge to play with coloured makeup. Which reminds me, I hope my wc tubes haven’t dried up😱
making a promise to the internet- this weekend I will bust them out
Would love to see a review of that covergirl brown blush!!
Hi was just half way through watching you 7 months ago in a Julia’s house and I saw this yay
Would love to know your thoughts on the Cerave cleansing balm 🤩
A horror movie with Steve Carrel played and I can’t get over the contrast between that and Hannah. Lol
I bought the Sephora set. It spoke to me. I am leaning towards the PML palette. It’s just so good!
Although I do agree about the agents clip balm. I wasn’t interested in that, but I have it on my vanity where I can use a lip brush and that should help.
Cerave is pronounced like a person named “Sarah V.”! They say it in the tv ads all the time haha
In case you’re taking requests, I would like to see an up-close
eye-makeup tutorial on your current eye look. Thanks for considering.
Dear Hannah, Love your videos! As part of no-buy-July, would you be able to create a tutorial video on how to use different makeup brushes, using existing makeup? :) Thank you for your consideration. ♡
I ❤️ this look so much on you!
I would love to see you recreate the DM looks in a video with what you have.
