I come from a railway family. Right from my childhood I had a fascination towards trains especially super fast trains and the speed with which they run. When I was a child..I used listen to a lot of talk about Coromandel Exp..the top speed of 120 kmph with which it used run. I was very thrilled when we travelled for first time from Vizag to Howrah on Coromandel Exp..the speed was awesome and exciting. Enjoyed this video taken from loco pilots cabin. Hats off to our loco pilots who shud be given a special place in the society like our airline pilots..
Really enjoyable entertaining video. Loved how when the Loco got to 105, 106, the Loco pilot put the engine to Notch 8 and you can hear the EMD drumming its beat, pulling the train to 110kmh again. I watched from start to finish. One of my favorite in-cab Loco videos on youtube. Cheers from Canada. EMD foreverrrrr......
Noticed. The concerned Stn Master or operational team of zonal rly who detailed the Loco & Asst pilots have not provided the clip to attach the important time table sheet .
Wow..what a locomotive....true engine....makes its own electricity and goes where no Electric loco can go. Lot of respect for diesel engines and their applications. Generators, pumps, compressors, blowers, automobiles, locomotives, ships. Diesel Engine is all time Great.
First and foremost thanks for enchanting us with the experience of driving an EMD WDP4B Locomotive in Long Hood Forward(LHF)/Reverse mode. For those who say that there are visibility problems in that mode I wou'd like to clarify by saying that it is a wrong claim. The job of the Loco Pilot is to look out for signals at distances of 1-1.5Km ahead since the Locomotive itself traverses at speeds of 110-130Km/Hour and so the Long Hood itself helps to focus His vision so He doesn't feels sleepy or depends too much on Full 180° vision which is restricted to 90° and the Signals are clearly visible because there is no reflection of light in that area(All of You can test that Yourselves). Not only does it helps the Locopilots but it looks gorgeous from the Viewers perspective and all Locopilots should be proud of that fact. I would like to conclude by saying that even in the olden days of Steam Locomotives there's no concept of Short Hood Forward and so like that adage Long Hood Forward Locomotives continue to dominate on the railway tracks. The reason why two people - the Loco Pilot and the Assistant Loco Pilot are alloted is also to be brought here in context(Supposing a situation where the train is going through a gradient or negotiating a curve at it's Maximum Permitted Speed or under Speed Restriction the Signal may be obscured in the line of vision of the Loco Pilot because of the Long Hood but it is clearly visible to the Assistant Loco Pilot who communicates with the Loco Pilot and thus You can hear them conversing in the video). In most other scenarios the Loco Pilot sees the Signals and everything straight up ahead since such things line themselves up in the same plane as with the Loco Pilot seated on the Left side of the Locomotive thus there's no problem of visibility hindrances because of the Long Hood but Yes the reason why the Loco Pilot has to continuously honk in this mode is that He cannot see what's up ahead on the tracks about 20metres of his vision is obscured so He hopes and continuously makes the Locomotive honk so as to ward off anything away like people, domestic or stray animals off the tracks in order to make the train pass safely. I hope whatever I wrote till now that serves as an introductory basis for anyone who is curious and also saves a thousand explanations. Thank You all and have a nice day!
I am a train buff, however even though I have not been to India, it is readily seen that the reason for all the horn blowing is generally due to the all the poor people walking along and on the tracks and living next to them ! Clear visibility from long hood is tough for loco pilots. Good that WDP4D series with cabins at ends have come in place
