    When you watch this & hear the song, know that the English lyrics are not a direct translation to the Swedish lyrics. En Livstid I Krig & Lifetime Of War are both about the 30 Years War, but they are completely different stories, one told from an overall view of the war & the other from the view of a Swedish soldier. Also if you haven't done so already, please watch the music video with subtitles.

    • @Davidkiser13
      @Davidkiser13 3 роки тому +2

      Correct. The Swedish version (en livistid I krig) is about the soldier and lifetime of war is about the war as a whole.

    The history in the Swedish version is different from this. You need both so I'll guess you'll have to learn to read subtitles. 😉
    The english version is from a more neutral view, both for the song and history. The Swedish version is about the swedish part of the war, and the swedish soldiers view of it.

      Was that not the Swedish version of it told by Sabaton?

    • @Jolle187
      @Jolle187 3 роки тому +8

      @@MustaLaatta there is a swedish lyrics song and an english lyrics song. And there is a history video for each, and the history video for the swedish version of the song is in swedish too. They started watching that one but changed to the english one.

    War was unfortunate back in them times. Very unfortunate. We aren't too different from our ancestors, and what I mean by that is many soldiers weren't black and white in morals or who they were. Especially later in the war when the Holy Roman Empire was devastated, many didnt want to plunder, torture, and kill those off the battle field. They HAD to otherwise they and their families were going to die. You don't disobey orders, or bypass an opportunity to better your own life and your family by result. Its not a defense of this, only an explanation. The rest of the cruelty is...really only explained by zealotry, ignorance, whether blind, genuinely not knowing, or lied to by those who were educated. Even back then this was terrible. The standards of the time was not up ours, but they still had a standard. People aren't inherently cruel, no one is born with hate, that is learned. Its too bad these people had no way of learning to not hate another because of the manipulation by the higher class.

    To clarify some informations: not all of those Bohemian protestants were Bohemians. Most of them were Austrian/German nobility, just with protestant faith.
    When it comes to the casualties, only about 1% were soldiers killed by another soldiers, and only about 5% were civilians killed by soldiers. About 60% died due to plague and 20% due to starvation.
    Some cities (like German city Mannheim) were completely destroyed and gone from the face of the Earth for about 100 years, until the population rose again and there was a need to rebuilt previously destroyed cities.

    Ah yes, the wonderful torture of wheeling.... It's exactly what you think it is. You have a poor guy placed upon a wheel in the center.... then you would smash their arms and legs and wrap them through the spokes of the wheel, like a human pretzel. The main purpose of this was to serve as a warning and scare tactics, as most people who were wheeled died before they got placed high up. It's kinda like heads on a spike, just more gruesome in my opinion.

    Please watch the one you were gonna watch at first the Swedish Version since it has completely different lyrics than the English one that you watched which is why it’s gonna be different. The Swedish one focuses on Sweden.

    Yeah the 30-years war is a terrible war and it totally awful time in human history that involved most of Europe which not many wars did back in those days. Also the Swedish version of this is different and focus more on the individual soldier from the war instead of the war as a whole. If you are going to do a reaction of the song I do (and many other will too), recommend "En livstid i krig" (the swedish version of this) Live from The Great Tour. While you watch it I highly recommend the subtitles so you understand it, but it is easily not just one of their best performances, but also from the audience and I think you realize why when you watch it.
    Cheers from Sweden!

    Great reaction!🤘Indy mentioned that the war became buisness. A lot of the Swedish nobles made fortunes of this war. You'd be surprised how many castles in our country were built with blood money... At the same time, the Swedish army plundered their way through Germany and Bohemia (Czech Republic). That's what we would call terrorism today.. Please, react to "Lion from the North" (official music video and Sabaton History). It's about king Gustav II Adolf (or Gustavus Adolphus) that interfeared and was killed in the 30 years war.
    Happy Holidays and stay safe!🎄🤘

    Intresting Trivia. Mentioned polish skirmishers were so called Lisowczycy. It was unit made out of bandits to lighten costs on the army because they weren't paid. They had an option. Join the unit or be hanged for their crimes. All their income was from looting and they were sent to figth in this war because it's not really a unit you can keep in your country. There is more intresting facts about them and I suggest reading about them because it's really intresting topic.

    • @xJamesLaughx
      @xJamesLaughx 3 роки тому

      @@cheflaboogie7449 They don't BUT Underground Symphony, Black Lodge and Nuclear Blast record labels and the producers who produce and make their albums, videos etc do copyright strike as they are the owners of these songs and videos. Sabaton owns the song but the albums and videos are owned by the record label and producers who made them and Sabaton gets a cut of the profits from them.
      Same way Sony Records and BMG music etc. file the copyright claims for the artists whose albums they made.

    I'm not bothered by you not knowing about the 30 years war (not gonna expect everyone to know about every continent's entire history) but that's what Sabaton History is for. Good on you! On a personal note, I don't really think the song (English lyrics to be exact) belongs on the Carolus Rex album. It's very much a concept album about the Swedish empire but the English lyrics has nothing to do with the subject. Don't know why Sabaton decided to write it that way and forgo the concept for that version of the song and not just use it as a bonus track. However I do like the fact that they didn't do an English version of Ruina Imperii. It definitely would have cheapen it.
    "As long as you're not hurting somebody with your belief system, who gives a shit?" Unfortunately some people get so offended by other people''s opinion that they victimize themselves enough and tell themselves and others how it hurts them, justifying vindictive and/or violent retaliation. For an opposite or different opinion. The macro being horrific wars, the micro being ostracizing and modern cancel culture.
