The swedish version is song from the soldiers side of view. The english version is song from a third point of view

Coming from a native Swede, the lyrics in the Swedish version is the point of view of a Swedish soldier during the Thirty Years’ War, and the English one is the world’s view of it (like you saw in the beginning, the history behind it all), hence why the lyrics are different

I think that you have realised that ALL the knowledge of the world is out there just waiting for someone like you to come along.
Continue to take full advantage of it and continue to learn.
What you are doing is way cool.

I don't know what it is about Prague, but they seem very keen on defenestrations there. Remind me not to lean out of an upstairs window if I visit...

And people claim that Sabaton glorifies war.
You should watch the Sabaton history video: "en livs tid i krig". to get a view from the swedish perspective during this time and beyond. That is if you can handle Indy speaking Swedish while youre reading the english subtexts. I dont blame you if you dont though but you might just find it intresting if you have the time.

Regarding what you mentioned during the history part, what people and human kind are capable of; I will quote Hannes van Dahl (the drummer of Sabaton, from one of the vlog tour episodes): "The only thing we have learned from history, is that we don't learn from history. " Sad but true...
And, no, it isn't just you. The lyrics are quite different actually. I'm not sure, but I think they must have written the Swedish version first, it feels like so when looking at the lyrics. Too bad you don't speak Swedish (but who knows, maybe one day ? 😉), cause the Swedish version is way better! Admittedly bias, being Swedish and all but still. Still smile everytime I see you see your "mancrush " Pär, the viking bass player 😉
Love your reactions, keep it up! Would actually love to see you reacting to their vlogs. You might not learn so much, except about the members in Sabaton, would be fun. Take care!

I think I have heard they wrote the english first, basically that the whole swedish album was sort of an afterthought. Mostly they just translated the english lyrics to swedish but in this case they couldn't get it to work. After quite a few tries they decided to rewrite it completely instead. And how happy are we for that decision now? :)

The torture "Schwedentrunk"(Sweden drink), is probably one of the worst kind of torture.
    From Wikipedia:
"They laid the bound soldier on the ground, stuck a wooden wedge into his mouth, and poured into his belly a bucket full of disgusting liquid manure, which they called a Swedish Drink.
Apart from disgust, illness, and the possibility of bacterial infection, the Schwedentrunk inflicted intense gastric pain. Because liquids are incompressible, the victim's stomach and bowels must expand to painful proportions to accommodate the copious quantities of fluid. The torturers then squeezed the distended belly with wooden boards, trampled the victim underfoot or beat them with sticks. Sometimes a victim was stabbed with spears in the stomach."

The song 1648 (both swedish and english versions, which are from different perspectives just like Lifetime of War) is related to this, since it's about the last battle of the 30 years war. Not sure if it has a history episode though.

Human nature can be fucked up but at the same time it’s also beautiful.I think that when we are living in chaotic times it brings out the worst and best in us.

It is not only a cycle of revenge that make wars get more violent and brutal the longer it lasts, it is also money. The longer it lasts the poorer countries get and soldiers go without pay, harder to support the family so to get money they raid and pillage often killing civilians for their possessions. Soldiers that do not have money will do anything to get some to be able to eat, feed the family whatever it takes.

The painting at 10:20 represents the Saint-Bartholomew's day massacre in 1572 during the French wars of religion so I don't really get what they put it there lol

There was a poll done in Germany not too long after WW2, I think the 1960s, they were asked which War was the most devastating in German history. The 30 Years War was No.1, it devastated Germany that much. Even " himself spoke of revenge for the Thirty Years' War and the of Westphalia." The Treaty that ended the war. Also here's a funny Blackadder-esqe sketch about it ua-cam.com/video/8Dy-CeKgPa8/v-deo.html

One thing you have to remember is after the war has gone on for about 20 years the younger soldiers have never seen peace in their life. Massacers, torture, etc. are just things that happen. You are brought up with only realities of war and you don't know what the better times are like.
Then there were the mercenaries. To them war was just about making money. If you can make more by taking money from the peasants who live on the marching route why not. It's not like you are going to get punished and if you are not the one taking their valuables someone else will. You may have to all sorts of things to get the valuables but you are so desensitized to all the horrors of war after decades that you likely think nothing of it.

Civilization is order and peace, not necessarily with justice. Barbarism is disorder, violence and injustice. Justice often is vendetta. Yes, we are no better, because each generation must relearn how to be civilized.

Yes you are right about the thing mob mentality, when it kicks in nothing is impossible. If you pronounces the swedish name Pär like eng. pair, it's pretty close.

The Dutch republic and Spain 12 years halftime break is over next final round .
They did forget to mention that Spain and the dutch republic again went to war during the 30 years war. Between 1568 and 1648
Just imagine a nation that has been fighting a simular war for almost 40 years. only a short break to recover and resume the for another round of 30 years. 80 years of continious bloodshed . Its not hard to imagine that lives and brutality ment nothing .
The same people that where in WW1 in the trenches where the same that run ww2
So you can see that europe is verry carefull when going to war . and there should be good reason to do so .

It actually is still there a lot of places in the world right now where people now who are in they're 50s or 60s and have been training since a Real small child ighting and killing since their teens, especially in the very poorest countries in the world, especially in Certain parts Africa and the Middle East, and South America, Eastern Europe where many won't make it to even make it to these ages, but in some countries they have generations of people , who sadly all they know is war😞🙏✌,
You are very right when you say its not a thing that was just magically left in the past, it's a real true and ever-present part of the human psyche , some people will hate or envy sadly hate will always be there, and again its sad but true that so will greed, and as long as you have them sort of ingredients for things for something to spark off like the old saying like a powder keg
When and where there is hate, people suffer, That like I said brings greed because there has always been a buck to made by rich private people ,under the guise of "helping" countries monarchies or governments or churches raising armies and either starting wars or stepping in as a moderater, a literal Knight in shining armour, as if they are the defender and they actually brag about defending God from the war they started , whatever it was when they were just the same now, here present day are at the moment a heck of lot of fires burning Around the world right now and countries that are in my opinion with the capabilities of todays weapons its worse in some parts of the world, because the amount of destruction someone can cause who is an irresponsible or an evil or even often an overly ambitious leader,or negligent leader ,have done in the past have been some, truly horrific deeds, like this
So in the future we should tread so carefully with actions for all humanities sake whatever nation 🤔🙄
Great reaction as per usual Mr McJib
    💣👏👌👍✌💯

Yes being an executioner was a very dirty job and also a very shameful job so they had to keep the identities hidden otherwise there would be a backlash against their families and friends.

Are we capable of that sort of behaviour? Not the good and moral christians of course, protestants and catholics would of course never do something like that, because they got their moral straight from God.
Jokes aside, yes, we are very much capable of things like that, but that doesn't mean that we have not changed. We have actually become better, DNA studies of different people over times have shown that a couple of the most "violent" genes have become less and less common in us. So basically, there are still hope. :)
