Very educated & knowledgeable instructor in bareknuckle boxing for the streets. The Irish and Scots both have been re-known for their fighting prowess here in the Americas and certainly there martial arts are as effective as the eastern arts. I saw documentary on History Channel about a Scotch grappling system much akin to Judo and Irish stick fighting. Interesting stuff.
My great grandfather came from Ireland to Wales to live where he fought the Welsh mountain fighters on the mountains in Wales to fight he was 5 foot 4 inches & 15 stone & only lost one but avenged is loss he fought about 80 odd fights to put food on the table back then , he had one eye losing an eye in a fight but still winning the fight real hard men he also fought his English bull terriers , today we never do it but back then they were different days to now harder .

Priceless!. absolutely priceless. This film should be cut into several small films. i will practice these punches on the heavy bag bear handed. re-do all of these techniques making each one of them their own UA-cam video.
*+John Molloy* To be fair to him, he'd hardly be doing UFC if he could fight properly. It's a joke sport which only exists at all due to the gullibility of the people who used to think WWF was real. Fair enough pro wrestling's very hard on your body, but it's not real. The bobbing their heads about trying to grab people's legs and waists when they're allowed to knee and kick them in the head when they do this very slow move/transition is all the logic that's required to understand that it's not even real fighting they're doing. I mean what bout their obsession with BJJ? In Brazil, that's like judo, bu unlike Judo, you're allowed to fight with women as again, it's not real and if they know the moves and you're not so good, they'll probably beat you---*_not a proper contact, let alone combat sport., so why do they pretend that it is a or the key core skill to MMA_*
Im in la i love this fighting style im really going to study the fighting irish bare knuckle style after this video its one of my favorite subtle but brutal
For " traveler" style boxing this would work because it focuses on saving your hands for the long term. I don't think the video is supposed to be a complete street fighting bible like many people are trolling for. I think anytime you can use non-waisted movement is a good thing. There are advantages and weaknesses in everything.
Heel palm and elbow strikes are way under rated .One good shot and lights out.Plus your fingers and hands are not designed for punching. Picking up weapons to batter the opponent maybe.
Thank you for posting this: a welcome reminder that western civilization wasn't always so civilized and that in the west we knew how to fight, and to fight well, long before we discovered Far Eastern "wah!"
Irish martial arts. Combine this with their stick fighting and I imagine it would be very devastating. Also, a lot of these techniques remind me a lot of Southern Chinese kung fu, and yet it's obvious that these moves developed separately and independently, being native to Ireland. Just shows that there's only so many ways the human body can move, especially under pressure.
I practice southern mantis boxing and you're correct. The very first technique the Irish gentleman shows with the sliding palm heel strike is similar to what we call "yu sao" in mantis.
Palm heels, forearms strikes, elbows, throat punches, and finger strikes. Very devastating stuff. I wonder what these native Irish techniques, if combined with Cornish Wrestling and French Savate kicks, would look like. If one were to do that, many of my fellow Asian style martial artists would see that we certainly didn't have the monopoly on using the whole body as a weapon, even in old times. :-)
@@RobertGareau-z2b Might want to try looking up Abrazare from Fiore. He has some hand to hand and kicking techniques in his stuff. He also uses kicks in his sword fighting. There is also old style Savate from the 1900s you can look up. We also know that the old Pugilist styles allowed kicking, and employed a low kick known as "purring".
you have to be a master to not break your wrists doing these palm strikes, a couple centimetres off and your going to break your shit. if your going to use it, better train 1000s of times.
preserving the hand is so important in bare knuckle fighting, not just boxing, plenty of old traditional styles teach this. I think the problem is punching with a good hard fist is just very strong, so I would rather fall back on the not hurting my hands until I actually hurt my hands... seems strange but that's what it is, I bet it is because I am not a gypsy boxer, if I was I bet I would have to rethink my game.
Good stuff. You never mentioned foot work. Or perhaps that’s another tutorial? Also, fist/hand conditioning would be paramount for bare knuckle fighting.
Kind of makes you want to start shit at a club just to test this theory. Guarantee that in 10 minutes of arrival, I'da had this all done and finished lol.
It is sad when everybody likes to abuse the bold of Benny Hill. Good vídeo, thanks mate. When boxing and wrestling was ruled as sports, the real aspect of the martial art or fight was lost.
I liked a lot of those things, but I'm not too sure about the strategy with the headlock. I see headlocks as a desperate move to prevent someone from inevitably taking your back, because that it almost always what happens and on top of that you usually waste a lot of energy. It is true that you can prevent some blood from going to their brain, but you won't get a submission unless their unskilled or you sit out in a typical farm boy choke. Besides it is fairly easy to poke someone in the eye if they have you in a headlock because your grappling.
so this was just boxing with the addition of back fists, palm heel strikes, hammer fists, forearm strikes, and elbows. still was a great video especially if ur a boxer.
+Patrick Quinn its bareknuckle fighting simply... which obviously predates "boxing", techniques are the same around the world because they are with the intention of not fracturing any of your own bones with your strikes... which is how tyson famously broke his hands so much in street fights, not understanding how to hit without gloves. Although this man is talking about techniques for their unpadded glove things they use also. The glancing blows and dirty tactics are where it gets interesting here.

Think my dad was right (he is Scottish or was, he is dead now) remember him telling me when i was young to never fight an Irish man cause win or lose your still gonna feel sorry for your self. From what i just seen its not much more different to what my dad taught me, but scots fight with fist bound with silk handkerchiefs (old street trick just as good as a razor blade) and we like to head butt not only that were more likely to pick up the closest pointy, sharp or heavy thing and use it
